The Best Ice Cream Shops in Nashville | Eater Nashville

"Countless Mexican ice cream shops throughout North America share the phrase La Michoacana in their name (which has predictably led to some legal battles), including several along Nolensville Pike in Nashville. La Michoacana Premium near the Nashville Zoo serves a vast array of cold, sweet treats including paletas, ice cream, and sorbet. Think of a flavor and there’s a good chance you’ll find it here, from pistachio to passion fruit." - Eater Staff

Sweets are amazing, but there is this girl that is so rude. She wears glasses and she says they “don’t sell” items that are literally shown in the menu. But when it’s another worker they make it with no issue, she’s the only person who makes my experience horrible

Devyani Sharma

Google
The ice cream here is really rich and creamy and they have a variety of flavors of sorbets. The only issue here is the workers here hardly speak any English. We had to ask some guests to help translate. The ice cream quantity is also huge. My husband got their pistachio and I got the mango chilli sorbet. However, I am not sure of the hygiene because there was a piece of hair in my sorbet.

It was my first time in this place and I love it!

Google
WOW what an amazing hidden gem for ice cream. If you come here, get their gansito flavor! So much ice cream for ~$5!! The prices were different than their menus said, but it was so delicious and so much that I didn’t care at all. I will definitely be a regular customer here from now on! Edit: still amazing. Their gansito is so good (it’s a Mexican candy/cake with ice cream). Their mango and passion fruit sorbets are amazing as well with pieces of dried fruit in it!

Google
The ice cream here is very delicious and there's several flavors that you won't find anywhere else! 😋 🍨🍦try them.

Yelp
New location in the shopping plaza near Lowe's next to Pampered Pooch. Yummy frozen treats! They have scoop ice cream, banana splits, smoothies, milkshakes, yogurts, paletas, fruit cups. and much. more. Love the colorful inside decor. The service is friendly. The prices are reasonable.

Yelp
I came here late on a Sunday night and this place was packed! It's tucked away in a small strip mall off Nolensville Pike and there's ample parking. I went and stood in line for a while. It was most definitely worth it and I can understand the craze here. The place is family friendly so I highly recommend you bring the little ones here. I decided to go with a Mangonada. This was DELICIOUS and one of the best frozen treats I've ever had. If you like sweet and tart flavor profile, you have to give this a try. I also got the Dorilocos (Doritos with sour cream, cheese and corn) as well as the Hot Cheetos con Queso. I don't have anything to compare it to but this was a delight and I savored every bite. They have a unique offering of snacks and treats so I plan to be back asap. There is a bit of language barrier if you're not a Spanish speaker, but the staff are kind and helpful. You'll find a way to make it work so don't be intimidated. This place is worth a visit!

Yelp
My friends and I stumbled upon this place on Sunday night because we wanted to get some ice cream after dinner. It happened to be where we chose because it was the only place still open near us, and we will absolutely be going back soon. We got there and were immediately greeted by a long line going all the way to the door. Clearly this is a place that we should've known about and have been going to. They have a large menu and we want to explore everything on there. The ice cream did not disappoint. It was creamy and not too sweet with bits of strawberries and cheesecake throughout. It is very conveniently located and has a parking lot. Can't wait until we go back

Yelp
A fantastic local spot for ice cream and sweet treats. The polenta Popsicles are perfection. Cannot miss!

Yelp
The mangonada was quite delicious but it was a bit more expensive than I expected from the prices I had seen online. The sweet fresh mango paired really well with the mango sorbet and the chimoy. Just an FYI, when I went, I really had to use my Spanish skills to order, but it was well worth it.

Yelp
Great selection of Mexican snacks, chicharrónes, dorilocos, my favorite mangonadas... great selection of ice cream flavors as well.. overall a good place to stop by & enjoy their offerings. Place is pretty clean & maintained.

Yelp
Strawberry ice cream was a 10/10. The ice cream tasted homemade and super fresh. There was a strawberry jam in the ice cream that made it insanely good. It was a little expensive, a bit above $6 for a small cone. This shop is located in a small shopping center with plenty of parking but is easy to miss from the street.

Zuf J.

Yelp
To give a little context we ordered a 1 scoop small cup ice cream and a 2 scoop waffle cone. When we went to go pay this girl tried to make us pay $35 and when we asked her why she just changed the price to $13!

Yelp
My friends and I decided to check this place out for dessert after dinner. The paletas (icecream bars) tasted very good. I got the mango con chile which was my favorite but the vanilla and strawberry chocolate were also delicious. My paleta had real chunks of mango which gave another level to taste and quality. My friends enjoyed their paletas and we were all satisfied. The price of the paletas was very cheap (~$3 each). I would want to return and try all their other flavors, the kiwi flavor looked so good. They have a private lot with a lot of spaces so head out there and try it out!

Yelp
I was so excited when I found this place, as I used to love going to a similarly named place in Memphis. The ice cream here is so creamy and delicious, and so cheap! It sounds odd, but get the pine nut ice cream--it's heavenly.

Yelp
To yourself a favor and stop at this place for a sweet or savory treat. This is a hidden gem I found out because a friend took me here and, I'm telling you, my life changed. I no longer wanted normal ice-cream (think Ben and Jerry or DQ) ever again. I highly suggest trying the mangonada, with their house-made sorbets. You can choose from line, mango, or strawberry or you can get a scoop of each. Also, per the picture, you can get snack of a bag of Doritos with all the fixing inside...so good if you're looking for something on the savory side. Please just do yourself a favor and try this place out. You won't regret it!

Yelp

Yelp
So fresh and so good, they have so much to choose from. The lady that took our order was super nice. All around really good experience. I recommend!

Yelp
Over priced and low quality. Out of all the la Michoacana's I've been to from Cali to Tennessee this one by far it the worst. When we first walked in there was no menu on display had to go based off of pictures on yelp to figure out what I wanted and after receiving the item it looked nothing like what it did in the pictures. Save your money go somewhere else

Yelp
Tradition Mexican ice cream spot. First time customer, naive about the flavors and the girl behind the counter was very nice, and helpful. I ended up ordering a paleta De fresa y chocolate (De crema no de agua) and it was delish! This ice cream place is on the same road as the food truck taqueria el dollar!!! Win win!!!

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. Don't be intimidated by the lack of English on their menu, just start trying stuff! My boyfriend and I were eating here 4 days a week at one point. So many cool snacks I've always wanted to try and didn't know where to find them in one place Dorilocos are a must, as is elote in a cup. All the ice cream and paletas are delicious. Fruit with chile has become my all time favorite snack. All of the horchata and other drinks are fantastic. You've gotta try this place.

Yelp
Love this place! So many amazing ice cream and paleta flavors to choose from. I love the mangonada- the mango sorbet tastes just like fresh mangos. I also have had the elote and tostilocos which are both great! Everyone who works here is always so kind. This is a place I am always excited to come back to.

Yelp
Sometimes the craving hits for a mangonada and nothing else will satisfy. Such was the case this Sunday. Yelp to the rescue! I saw a couple of food trucks in the super crowded parking lot, a long line once I got inside and was like "jackpot". I was totally right. Nothing but goodness to be found here. Lots of ice cream options, paletas galore, all of the typical savory snacks and yes ma'am...my mangonada fix was completely satisfied. I opted for a medium...which was really quite giant and I was quite happy with the generous splash of chamoy inside of the cup. I jazzed things up with one scoop of chamoy at the bottom and mango at the top. Another squirt of chamoy and a sprinkle of chile on the top and I was happily on my way. Great prices, generous portions and the cheerful crowd to match. I was totally a fan. Lots of my favorite Mexican candies at the cashier to tempt as well.

Yelp
This place was so good! I've never been to a Michoacana that had THIS MANY flavors to choose from. My mangonada was so bomb.

Yelp
People are confusing this two paleta places and reviewing the wrong one . This location by the zoo has nothing to do with the one by planet fitness . This people are sanitary and clean unlike the other where people where gloves that are darker than mud .the icecream here taste like it's actually been done with real flavor and not syrups. Granted I only had a few but the mango has chunk in it We do a Sunday drop just about every week
google avatar

Hayat S.

Yelp
Soo good!!! A lot of flavors to choose from. Also, they were cool about sampling different flavors.
google avatar

Yelp
I didn't even know that this place was here until today. I stopped in on a whim. I opted for a strawberry popsicle. OMG. The best popsicle ever. And it was nice and clean. Can't wait to try other flavors. Thumbs up!

Yelp
I love Michocana Premium. Whenever I have out of town guests, this is a must stop location! They have a wide variety of paletas and ice cream flavors. Some are very unique and unexpected, while others are pretty standard fair. What is not standard, is the high quality of the ingredients. Every single item is so fresh and tasty. The fruit paletas are loaded with fruit! The staff is friendly, although there can frequently be a language barrier. They also have fresh fruit, snacks and elote. This is a spot that is not to be missed! They have ample parking and their dining area is clean and spacious.

Yelp
The caramel ice cream was excellent! Very smooth and creamy with just the right amount of caramel. My new favorite ice cream shop. The three Maria's ice cream was also amazing. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a great treat. Staff is very friendly.

Nohely J.

Yelp
My favorite dessert place to go! Anytime I come to Nashville, ALWAYS make sure I come here. The popsicles are my favorite , when I come I get about 6 of them! To many to chose from and you can't just get one, that's how tempting they are! They are also good for other types of desserts/treats I recommend trying everything ! Absolutely MY FAVORITE PLACE !!!

Sarah N.

Yelp
I loooooooveeee this place. Be prepared to wait in a line when you go. The menu is overwhelming, so I've rarely ventured out. Their mangonada is absolutely amazing. I'll easily drop $30 on popsicles to stock my freezer. My ONLY complaint is I normally get some lovely young lady who doesn't speak good English. I would love to be able to explore their menu and ask more questions, but the language barrier prevents that. I really wanna try their nachos in the bag!
google avatar

Tejas D.

Yelp
This ice cream place is Nashville's best kept secret. Try the mangonada - mango ice cream and tamarind sauce (chimoy) and you will keep coming back. Now they have tags to all ice creams which helps as on earlier visits we didn't know what we were getting they have popsicles, milk shakes and cut fruits too. They have savory snacks which I have always wanted to try but not had the chance yet. I am sure I will be going back A must summer visit for all summer treats.

Yelp
This is the best little secret on Nolensville rd. The portions are generous and the flavors are great. The "3 Marias" changed my life. If your anywhere close and want something sweet, this is a must try.

Bob W.

Yelp
Service was terrible and slow. Once I ordered my dessert I took a couple of bites out of it and quickly figured out It wasn't for me. I stood in line again waiting on The slow service and asked politely if I could get something else since I didn't like the flavor... The guy went back to the back room and when he came back said that I could purchase another one at %15 percent off... I was like "so your telling me I have to buy another one even tho I hated it?" He said "yes". I just walked away. I worked in the food and service industry for years and if someone didn't like their food we went out of our way to make it right for them. Thumbs down.

Tom J.

Yelp
I came because I thought it was the only ice cream parlor in the Zoo area. But I found out there's a Baskin-Robbins just south of there in a strip mall, and BR is cheaper.

AD P.

Yelp
Huge variety of paletas and ice cream. The paleta de coco de agua is delicious!! Awesome customer service. Our friends did not know what to chose and asked the cashier for suggestions. They loved the recommendations that were given to them. Also this place is very clean.
