Cool Off With a Paleta at These 10 Los Angeles Shops | Eater LA

"Born in Michoacan, Jesus Hernandez Morales opened his family-operated business after learning how to make ice cream from his father. His paletas are inventive and packed with flavor, including one made with avocado, a horchata version, and even an option that tastes like a cappuccino. In addition to Inglewood, find La Michoacana Ricas Nieves in Montebello and Hawthorne." - Mona Holmes

If you haven't tried the mangoneadas at La Michoacana Ricas Nieves, you are seriously missing out! They are delicious and the portions are generous! Hands down, one of the best mangoneadas I've ever had! This place is POPULAR but the staff is awesome and they through orders quickly. This place is definitely out of my way, but it's so worth it!

Chris R.

Google
The paletas here are fresh, affordable and made with quality ingredients. All of the flavors we’ve tried include watermelon, pistachio, strawberry cream, fruity pebbles, and mango; they’ve all been fantastic! Great for a light dessert on a warm day. Usually pretty busy but the line moves quick, and I’ve always been able to find parking.

Google
Today I went to La Michoacana. I ordered a Tres Marias and they charged me something very different from what I ordered. Honestly, this has been my favorite place, but the staff wants to charge you even for the toppings that a Tres Marias has. I hope the owner sees this review.

Google
I won’t recommend this place because they act like they are giving you the things for free. The person who says he is the manager is s very rude and doesn’t know how to threat customers. He will argue with customers and tell you don’t have to come here if you don’t like it. They sell dubai street with the chocolate all burnt and they get upset when you tell them the chocolate is not good. They should not sell things that they don’t know how to make. Customer service and manager very rude.

Google
Super delicious! The ice cream is super creamy and tastes like real fruit. The vanilla and coco ice cream is so good!

Patrick S.

Google
Some of the best desserts (not just popsicles) I've ever had. Be sure to bring a cooler since you'll like order a lot. Favorite flavors are kiwi strawberry, strawberry and cream, and passionfruit. And the esquites? O.M.G. Get it with the hot cheetos powder. Absolutely incredible. This may the best kept secret in all of southern california for Mexican-style desserts.

Google
They were busy but really good at helping people through the line. The paletas were delicious. Plus they had kid size ones.

Google
This Michoacana location USE TO BE my favorite because of the great customer service and their paleta de leche quemada con fresas. This paleta I was told by the owner is exclusive to the location which added to my favoritism. Two days ago I was really craving an esquite and some tostilocos so I visited the location and was extremely dissatisfied from the moment I walked in. Posted right when you enter is a hand written sign stating that they no longer honor the rewards point system which in the past has saved me $5-$10 off my purchase which does make a difference. I asked for a regular esquite no hot Cheetos and no lime, but I still tasted lime. Their tostilocos now don't have mango instead they come with cucumber and jícama. The cueritos were EXTREMELY chewy, made me question if they were old. I asked for the chamoy that's not spicy and I don't know if they didn't have any so the girl used the spicy one but added only about 3 squirts of it. The tostilocos were dry, and I really doubt that they use a whole bag of tostitos now because I was only able to get two whole tostitos out of the portion I ate. I will unfortunately have to visit a different location from now on.

Yelp
Very clean with a wide variety to choose from, though prices are a bit on the high side.

Yelp
Loved this ice cream! Stopped by this spot since we were down the street visiting friends and it was delicious! We tried three samples and settled on the strawberries and cream and the strawberry cheesecake. The ice cream was creamy, the strawberry flavor and chunks of cheesecake were rich and the scoops were big. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Everything i have tried here has been nothing short of amazing. Alejandra is my girl! She is the kindest sweetest heart over there. Serving everyone up with a side of kindness and smiles to go with those delicious Antonio's. I will keep coming here just for her service alone! If the owner reads this, please promote that woman. She really deserves it. I'm so in love with the mango and watermelon paletas with the chamoy and chili stick inside. So so so delicious and my son loves the ice cream there as well. The esquite...everything!

Yelp
This place put me on to Soursop icecream?! Do you hear me, Soursop and omg it is soooo delish. I know it may have sugar added but idc because soursop anything is close enough to a healthy dessert option. The service was good. They are very welcoming and patient enough to explain their menu. The ambiance is always tidy, well organized and well advertised. Came here twice and now their soursop ice cream will be my guilty pleasure to have, every so often.

Sonia R.

Yelp
The girls that work here either don't like working here or they aren't good at customer service. They are so rude specially the one with "blonde hair" today I went to get some Tostilocos and I specifically asked no cueritos. I got home and I had cueritos. I went back to get them done right and she gave me the meanest look. I'll stick to La Pasadita on Arbor Vitae. The girls there are super friendly and kind.

Yelp
I came into the establishment around 6:45pm With my nephew and we waited for a little while... And the young lady told us the next lady was going to help us.. while she helped the Latino family behind us . We waited for a couple more minutes. My nephew says to me .. this is kind of racist.. We both looked around and just figured NOBODY was going to help us... Sad ... very sad. "Do better"!!!

Mekhala S.

Yelp
The best I love everything here. Especially the elope with hot Cheetos. The nachos are yummy too.

Ita S.

Yelp
Their ice creams are delicious! I usually get the rompope or chocolate, service is usually prompt depending on how busy it is, the raspados (shaved ice) are very delicious as well.
google avatar

Joseph A.

Yelp
So many options and never disappointing! I tend to lean more sweet than savory and all the fruit options are great!
google avatar

Donna H.

Yelp
The kind older lady who helped me, had a very nice attitude. Loved that! I got a popsicle of coconut flavor covered in chocolate and con at flakes. BOMB! Sooo good. And some pepino locos. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
The ambiance is great. The food is great. So many delectable delightful choices. The visit for trying something new is endless. My favs are the ice popsicle watermelon, lime, and strawberry. The milk popsicle flavors are avocado, banana & chocolate, and vanilla. The service matches the ambiance fun, happy, and great.

naila d.

Yelp
absolutely terrible service my raspado tasted expired (maybe it was the condensed milk) took them back and they refused to refund me and told me to "choose something different" which is insane like why would i do that when my item tasted expired. f##king terrible then the guy had the audacity to point @ their sign that states "everything freshly made" obviously not jacka$$ EDIT: don't care hopefully it wasn't too easy to clean‍

Steph R.

Yelp
Horrible customer service, I wish I could give 0 stars because this place is just awful. The employee Marisol was completely unwelcoming making it known she did not want us there and even said we should stay home. She would keep making rude comments about every customer after they left making me feel very uncomfortable. You could tell she did not want to be there and when she took my order she kept rolling her eyes, sighing and unprofessional. Her overall attitude was terrible and felt like a bother to even get my order. Is that how to treat a paying customer? Honestly avoid this location at all cost because this employee Marisol will make you just not want to come back. Completely unacceptable and I will never come back to this location due to the complete disrespect and horrible customer service.

Yelp
Good prices, good selections,... happy life! Happy stomach. One of my favorites from the surrounding community.

Yelp
I love strawberries!!!! And I enjoy all foods that include strawberries, especially frozen desserts! So in honor of National Strawberry Day, it's only fitting to showcase these fresa paletas. I tried a paleta de leche: fresa con crema, paleta de leche-fresa, and paleta de agua-fresa, and they are all so refreshing and oh so BERRY wonderful! Each bite is full of strawberry chunks with the perfect amount of sweetness, creaminess, and just pure BERRY yummy deliciousness! I can't pick a favorite! I have yet to try their huge selection of paletas, but trust me I will (at least all the fresa ones)! The customer service was great and I arrived when they first opened so there was no line! I will definitely be back to also try their other treats and snacks like bionicos, esquites, and mangonadas to name a few!

Yelp
Wow this place was awesome! Workers try their best to explain the items to us out of towners as best as they could. When we walked in, being that it was our first time it was a bit overwhelming. We came on a Sunday night and it was packed and flowing. We had the mangonada, strawberry & cream aqua fresca, corn in a cup and everything was so amazing!! I'll start w/the Mangonada which had mango smoothie, mango chunks and chamoy which was WoW! I finished that first and highly recommend you TRY it! The next I had was the strawberry/cream agua fresca which was the thickest one I ever had but prob one of the bests I ever had too. Every slurp you had the creamiest drink and the fresh strawberries were so delicious!!! Last but not least the corn, that was a great way to end my night w/something savory. Def will be hitting this spot up again when I'm back in town. TRY THEM, you will not regret.

Yelp
No pares particularmente honesto. This is not in relation to the items sold, but the lack of prices shown to consumers. Why is it that the prices are not posted anywhere, not on the enormous overhead menu or smaller manus by the cash register. Why is this a problem? Because this place have their own interest in mind instead of the costumers. Doesn't seem honest.

Sherri E.

Yelp
I was so impressed - they are very nice, the palettes were delicious. George called to remind to me to make my choices and was available went I went to drop off my selection. When he dropped the cart and goodies off he was very nice and had all of our selections. We enjoyed using them and will do so again! The made the 4th lots of fun!!!

Yelp
This is an AWESOME place! I have now been here 3 times and I have tried a new thing every time. The paletas are real! With real fruit and they are a good size. For certain flavors they have the "mini size" for a 50cent tasting. The Aguas Frescas are super good and they will give you a tasting for free Customer service is very good. There is always a line. On a super hot day, I saw the line go way way way outside the door. But, no worries- they are well organized and the line moves up fast. The crazy Mexican snacks are also very good. We tried the tosti-locos and it was a huge portion (enough to share) and it was fun/good to eat. All good... I definitively recommend.

Gaby G.

Yelp
The strawberry agua fresca used to be creamy, but not anymore. It looks creamy but is not. Also, there is no restroom. Even if it is an emergency, they'll lie and say it is out of service.
google avatar

Greedy S.

Yelp
I Ordered a small strawberry smoothie. I sipped it once and It was disgusting so I asked can I get a different flavor and they denied me. Poor customer service and they barely speak English. Customer satisfaction is supposed to come first in business.
google avatar

Josie Z.

Yelp
I will jump out of bed in my pajamas and head straight here just to get my dessert fix! i love all the variety of homemade desserts they have. From ice-creams, vegan sherberts (the lime and strawberry are my favorite go-to with drizzled spicey chimoy), the amazing popsicles (the fresas con crema is iconic!!!) and the savory food items when i want to go all out and make it a sweet and salty treat. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. I really appreciate that. This place is popular because it's amazing, authentic and clean! No wonder it's always packed.

Yelp
I visited La Michoacana again on Thursday. They are practicing the policy of allowing no more than 10 people in the establishment at once. There were 4 employees serving the customers, which enabled the line to move quicker. The establishment is very clean and well organized, which is great. Everyone who works there seems very personable and customer oriented, which is rare, especially in Los Angeles. This visit, I purchased a mangoñada and a cucumber aqua fresca. I highly recommend both selections. The cucumber aqua fresca is SO refreshing. I prefer straining certain beverages because I'm not a fan of pulp or anything pulp-like, so I took my aqua fresca home and strained it. Its fresh and will last for days if you don't drink it immediately. It took me 3 attempts, but I finally finished my mangoñada. I ordered a M. It keeps well in the freezer and tasted like I just ordered it a few days later. It can be spicy or non-spicy (I chose the latter). It has chamoy in the cup and Tajin along with their water-based mango ice cream and mango chunks on top. I want to order the Piña Loca or Sandia Loca next. They also have a lemon ice cream like the mangoñada that I would like to try. There are plenty selections for plant based people/vegans and vegetarians as well as people who are lactose intolerant. There are milk and water-based ice creams. There are selections that aren't sugary sweet for those who have diabetes. I'm posting pics below from their IG page of some of their selections. They're still open. Enjoy!

Melinda T.

Yelp
Quick lines. Delicious snacks! We come every few weeks to stock up on paletas!!! The biónicos are delicious!!!

Ingrid P.

Yelp
Poor service! Walked in with my service dog and they needed to see proof which is against the law in the state of California. Never coming back to this location.
google avatar

Luka E.

Yelp
I'm a foodie and I wanted to try some paletas in interesting flavors I've never had before, so I came here. However, but me not being a native Spanish speaker, the flavors confused me, since the entire menu is in Spanish. I asked the employee to explain to me a few of the flavors and she looked inconvenienced. She briefly mumbled an answer and then walked away to go chat with her coworker. The place was empty too, so I don't understand what other priority she had as an employee than to help a customer. I asked her if they had a menu in English and she said NO! I was obviously unhappy because I feel like I was treated less, because I didn't understand Spanish. She came across as rude. I ended up getting strawberry because at least I knew what I would be getting. It was delicious but I wish I could've tried a more unique flavor.
google avatar

Wendy M.

Yelp
This is probably one of my favorite ice cream places ever! They have a variety of valors some water based and others milk based, and same with their paletas. My favorite is the Oreo ice cream, the chunks of cookie are soft, and the ice cream is so creamy! Another unique flavor that I love is the gansito ice cream, which has pieces of Gansito in it. They have aguas frescas, biónicos, esquites, raspados, tostilocos, hot Cheetos with cheese, and so much more! It'll definitely satisfy your sweet or salty tooth. The line can get a bit long around 8, but they have a lot of staff members working hard to get all the orders and it's all definitely worth the wait. Parking can also be slightly difficult when it's around this time. It's a must try, and I'd definitely recommend!
google avatar

Tonya B.

Yelp
CUSTOMER SERVICE RATING This place always has a line, it serves ice cream and it in my neighborhood, so I was excited to give it a try. The menu looked yummy and the clerks seemed nice, greeting customers and answering questions . However, when it was our turn, the friendliness was turned off. The clerk seemed mildly annoyed. I asked if ice cream water was like sorbet and the response was a tepid 'yes' while the clerk looked away. I definitely got the feeling that 'we' were not welcomed. So we left and went to an 'inclusive' establishment.
google avatar

Irene Q.

Yelp
Our favorite place for anything cold, sweet and refreshing. We ordered mangonadas, manzana Loca, one scoop lime ice cream and cookies and cream, mango paletas, and strawberry and banana crepe. Yum! I also like their spinach and pineapple agua fresca.

Olga M C.

Yelp
Food's always fresh and there's always something new to try. Great customer service, welcoming, helpful and cheery. Relaxed ambiance, sometimes loud but that's expected because they do get busy.
google avatar

Tracey B.

Yelp
I was referred to this place based on they have the best ice cream in town. I decided to go there and try it myself, and yes it was so good and I will for sure be going back on a regular basis. I tried the strawberry shortcake and cookies and cream and boyyyyy was it good. As for customer service I felt a little out of place since everything was in Spanish but I asked the girl who helped me what was the best selling ice creams and she told me. Maybe not as friendly as I thought one should be but I was ok once I tried the ice cream.
google avatar

Jake A.

Yelp
This place is authentic. So authentic that most of the people in my group probably weren't ready for the mango chili ice cream that most of them got. My wife and I played it safe with some coffee/chocolate ice cream in a cup, but the rest of the group went super adventurous. The pineapple popsicle was tasty according to a member of our group, and the staff also dropped a big plate of... something? With chips underneath. It was so kind of them and the flavor was very interesting! It's the kind of flavor that I'm so unaccustomed to that I'm not sure what to think about it. I liked it, in general, and the blend of savory and sweet was a great cultural experience for my group!
google avatar

Elena P.

Yelp
Delicious!!! I would've taken a pic but it was too yummy to wait! Great price and service.
google avatar

Ghalya M.

Yelp
This place is amazing. My only disappointment is that why I haven't discovered them sooner. It's a sweets person's dream. Ice cream, they have it. Frozen sweets, yup. Fruits, absolutely. Esquite, you are at the right place. We ordered a few items because we got shy. Otherwise, the whole store would have went home with us. Pricing is affordable. Service is great. Ample parking. What is not to like? For first timers, here's my suggestion: Appetizer - Fruit Entree - esquite ( with crushed hot Cheetos if you want to go wild) Dessert any flavored ice cream your heart desires Treat yourself. Go crazy. You deserve it. You're welcome.
google avatar

Bridget C.

Yelp
All I'm going to say is pure Awesomeness awaits you once you step inside. You may have to wait due to COVID-19 they're only allowing 5 people in at a time. Choosing from a variety of items you'll find your taste buds getting anxious.
google avatar

Iglesia A.

Yelp
Muy buen lugar las personas son muy hamables y tienen un lugar muy leimpo servicio está asombroso!
google avatar

Brenda M.

Yelp
Customer service is not there, the guy that helped me out was very nonchalant, I asked for an agua fresca that they don't have and instead of offering something similar he just said "we don't have that" I asked for churroslocos he said "we don't have that either". I said OK can I have a paleta de nuez, he said "entero oh picado" at this point he was very irritated. I asked for the paleta de nuez picada. Then I procedded to check out. The man that was at the register said "en serio, es todo, solo la paleta, " in an annoyed voice and for some reason he made me feel guilty for only buying the paleta. I payed and left **I gave two stars because the paleta was really good.

Yelp
Introduced to this place by my Latina gf and let me be the first to say, LA is the place for authentic south of the border deliciousness!! Here, you can find a variety of ice creams, Agua Frescas, eats and other treats. The treat I came for is esquites aka Mexican Street Corn. Now, depending on when you go, it can be wicked busy with a line out the door! Not tonight, yessss!! Walked in, the woman ahead of me gave me leave to go before her; the menu is vast! Greeted warmly. Esquite Grande por favor! I've tried my share of street corn and I do believe I love theirs above all others!! I get it with everything: chili, cheese and I think mayo. Once home, I put a little Valentina Mexican Hot sauce on top - yum yummy yum!! Speedy check in and out the door. Plenty of parking out front and street parking, if needed. Inexpensive, so I tip and get over served! Ingelwood Local Latin flavor, come check it!
google avatar

Kristy T.

Yelp
This place is amazing!!! I'm so glad that I found it. When you first walk in it is bright and colorful and everyone that works there is very nice and friendly. I did not know exactly what I wanted but I had a thought, the young lady that helped me assisted me to pick out 10 different flavors of their frozen fruit Popsicles that are absolutely to die for. I cannot wait to go back and try something different next time. But for now I will eat one popsicle a day and absolutely love every minute of it. If you are craving some ice cream or a popsicle with amazing flavors and huge chunks of fruit in them, fresh fruit, this is the place for you. You will not regret it. You can thank me later.

Yelp
Came here a 9:30 and was happy to have a last min treat with the boyfriend and family.... Clean and nice staff . Fast and very nice . Definitely coming back. This place is amazing and I love how they have so many treats. This place is 110% great. Definitely recommend coming here .
google avatar

Alysha J.

Yelp
La Michoacana is always a treat! I'm Constantly bringing in friends and family to try their array of delicious ice creams. The staff is always cheerful and helpful, and they are always patient with me when I go in practicing my Spanish . Couldn't ask for a better experience. The chocolate de abuelita is my favorite of the ice creams, and the mangonada is a perfect treat!
google avatar

Yesenia E.

Yelp
Parking: plenty right in front Wait time: between 10-15minutes. Price:$ I come to this location due to its close proximity to my home. It's located on Manchester and Eucalyptus. It's hard to miss. They have a ton to choose from and the prices are cheaper then surrounding locations. And the quality is amazing!!! The only down side is they only accept cash. If u use a debit card they charge you 75 cents. The customer service kinda sucks. They typically want u in and out and if ur taking more then a few seconds to order they skip you. Thus 4 out of 5
google avatar

Paola D.

Yelp
The chamango is so good! I can always eat another one. I love the spicy tamarindo stick!!!
google avatar

Cinthia V.

Yelp
I love it here especially because its close to where I live. Everything is good here, nothing disappoints. Service is great too.
google avatar

Massi F.

Yelp
Amazing place to go grab some Mexican street food! Service was amazing! The snack prices were more than reasonable and I would come pack any day. Parking can get a bit hectic, but don't let discourage you. On day of visit I got the eskites and two paletas. It was under ten bucks and out of this worldz
google avatar

Ava D.

Yelp
Although I don't live in California, I've been following this business on Instagram for a while now. Finally got the chance to check it out while in LA last weekend. It was everything and more than I've seen online. The agua frescas were delish, paletas amazing and the natural ice cream were flavor overload. I enjoyed everything I purchased. Highlight for me were all the natural, non dairy ice cream flavors. My favorites were soursop & passion fruit. Also got an agua fresca with mixed flavors of cucumber chia, spinach pineapple and limon. It was sooooo good. Definitely returning to this spot next time I'm in LA especially since it's so close to LAX.
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
Love this place!! YUMMMMMY!!!! It's like a child walking into a candy store. You won't know what to pick because you want everything
google avatar

Donovan P.

Yelp
I got the mangonada and manzana loca for dessert tonight and wow, one of the best mexican candies/ desserts I've eaten. Would highly recommend! Great prices for good dessert...its my "cheat day" ;)

Yelp
My fav La Micho, so many choices and great service here. We just left from there and the older gentleman was very nice at the register. The girl that helped take our order had fast service. Thank you!
