La Milpa

Went here on a Friday around 7pm. Got seated right away. They have unlimited chips and salsa. For drinks, the menu indicated first 2 refills free. We ordered tacos, enchilada, taco salad, and chimichanga. All were fresh and has rich flavors.

Vegetarian Taco: Expected a flavorful vegetarian taco, but it turned out to be quite average. We had specifically requested fajita veggies instead of meat, yet there were barely any vegetables inside—mostly just lettuce on the side. The lack of well-seasoned veggies made it underwhelming. Chips & Salsa: The complimentary chips and salsa were a nice touch. The chips were crisp, not too oily, and had just the right amount of salt—better than what many other places serve. Ambience: A decent setup with a comfortable dining space, nothing particularly special but good for a casual meal. Service: The service was good, with staff being attentive and friendly throughout the visit. Overall, the experience didn’t quite live up to the positive reviews, mainly due to the lackluster vegetarian taco.

It was my first time here, some friends and I were in the area and wanted Menudo. It did not disappoint. Staff was extremely nice and attentive, chips and salsa were good, and we ordered chavelas they brought the lime juice in the cup and the beer bottle on the side we added the beer ourselves which was a nice touch so that you know you're getting the full beer, something about the lime juice they use made that one of the best chavelas I've had.

We have been coming here for years and have always had a great meal. After their generous portions, save room for desert the flan and sopapillas are also wonderful. The staff is friendly and efficient, the perfect place for a quiet lunch or dinner.

Great mexican place to dine in Milpitas. They have old school decor which feels warm and welcoming. Service is great. The portion sizes are huge, I always have to carry my left overs. I got regular burrito which was pretty huge. Highly recommend this place to dining in.

The food was delicious!! The portions were pretty large and the people here were very sweet and friendly. The restaurant looks really cute and it's a wonderful experience. We really enjoyed all of our meals :)

They serve amazing Mexican food! It was my first time trying out real Mexican food here in California, and this place really gave me a nice experience! Their decorations and the atmosphere made me feel calm and relaxed. I will definitely revisit this place whenever I am feeling like some Mexican food. Please also note that their pudding (dessert) was yummy too!

Family owned business in a strip mall with plenty of parking. Very solid food, especially the basics of tacos and enchiladas. Nice staff, very attentive.

My family and I have been coming here for years. Their food is consistently good and filling. We've enjoyed dining-in, but recently we've brought the food home to enjoy. The food is good if you dine-in or take it to go. You get a good amount of food and it will fill you up. I always enjoy their Enchiladas Montadas. They are filling and I really like their two easy over eggs on top of the Enchiladas. My family also enjoy their Chile Colorado Burrito and their Combo Meals. Their service is also quick and efficient. It's a family friendly environment too. We always enjoy a delicious meal.

I started going to this place. About 30 years ago. Was absolutely wonderful. At the time. It was a father, who's driving the restaurant who is just a rude ass, but put out a good product. . I used to go there for the enchiladas en cocido. The last time I had the cocido there. It was Water down the meat with terrible no flavor. I found a little hole in the wall. I love this place. I had a #8 and it was so good. I've been going here occasionally for probably 10 years. I've always had a great experience!

Decent basic Mexican restaurant. I like that it has two things I crave that are not found in all Mexican restaurants: tamales and sopapillas. The tamales are only pork, and you can get one on a dinner plate with rice and beans. (You can also get two, but only the very hungry will need more than one.) The tamale has creamy masa, maybe a bit too much, but is reasonable in the quantity of meat. Rice and beans OK. The sopapillas come four large ones on a plate, and prove to be puffed up bread without the hollow space inside that a sopapilla should have; consequently there's no good place to put the honey (which does come with). Nice try, though, and fairly tasty.

One of the best authentic Mexican food in Milpitas. Excellent customer service from all the waiter and waitresses. You will appreciate the casual seating, the fabulous tasty food they serve. They make there own margarita, order beers and wine, no other mixed drinks. Oh yeah, I would highly recommend La Milpa to my friends, family and any new comers who want authentic Mexican food. I came here in a weekday and the restaurant wasn't busy. There are plenty of seats and parking outside. The service here was okay. The place has a classic aesthetic. I got the chicken enchilada and it was okay. It wasn't that flavorful. I wish I got it with verde sauce or something because it definitely felt like something was missing. There are definitely better traditional Mexican spots in the area. I was hoping the chips would be fresh and hot but they weren't. I was expecting more since this place has been a classic Milpitas staple. I don't think it's worth the price.

Cute family owned restaurant, perfect for casual dining. Plenty of parking, good location in central Milpitas. They had several vegetarian options which I appreciate. I had cheese quesadillas and veggie burrito. I shared them with a friend and it was perfect amount of food for us and pricing was fair for the quantity. The burrito was lacking flavor and definitely needed a little boost from the salsa. Quesadilla was good, nothing extraordinary but was satisfying and had good ratio of cheese vs tortilla. I will definitely come back to try some other items.

I went here with my fiancé after a recommendation from one of our teachers when we mentioned we liked to get Mexican food. It's a nice sit-down place with amazing service. The waitress was super sweet and seated us as soon as we walked through the door. The inside of the restaurant was nice and cozy and there was plenty of seating. It's a great place if you want a restaurant where you can sit and talk to your friends at length. I ordered a small combo plate of enchiladas, rice, and beans and my fiancé ordered a chimichanga. They also gave us a complimentary plate of tortilla chips and salsa, which had a nice kick to it. I usually eat Mexican food at places where tacos are $3, so the prices at La Milpa initially seemed steep to me, but the portion sizes were absolutely massive. I think my fiancé and I could have shared a plate if we wanted to and we would have still walked away completely full. The food was amazing though and my sisters thought the leftovers I brought home were great even though they ate them a day later. I'd definitely go back here again when I'm in the mood for Mexican food.

Food was great. Way more options than a typical taqueria. You get most of a traditional Mexican menu. I think it was missing maybe like sopes. But that could be a regional thing. The milanesa portion was huge and tasty. It was made with lomo de puerco or pork loin. I got an enchiladas Rojas de queso. There are no tomatoes or canned sauce. It tasted authentic to me. Made of dried red Chiles. Maybe guajillo or California Chiles. Not sure the specifics. But it was tasty. I tried the carnitas from my kids plate and they were good. The service was good. It was busy for a weekday afternoon. The ambiance was fine. The restaurant seemed like it had been established for generations. I'm not from the area, but it felt like it could be a staple for some families.

It's been a few years since I've been here. Very home cooked feel, the foods good and ingredients used are fresh. Waiters were nice as always! Chips and salsa were at the table with my wife when I got back from washing up. The food came out fast as well! Chile verde was good, first time I had it here and I'm used to the blended up chile style I guess. Beans and rice were on point. Wife had the carne asada plate. It was cooked perfect but a little bland for me. I ended up salting a few pieces for myself. Some hot sauce would have complimented well but I didn't want to bother and ask during lunch hour ‍

Great, authentic and fresh Mexican food at a decent price. Friendly staff and conveniently located in a shopping center with plenty of parking. Music is at a pleasant level where you can enjoy your conversations. The restaurant has plenty of seating two sections smaller tables to bigger ones for large parties, very accommodating. Definitely will be returning when in area.

Was in town for work and my colleagues and I were looking for authentic Mexican food. Unfortunately, this place missed the mark. There's no bar, which is disappointing but forgivable, though, there's no excuse for not having tequila in a Mexican restaurant. The service was excellent and staff was attentive. Their salsa is heavy on the tomatoes but they were kind enough to make us a habanero salsa that was much better. The consensus from the group was that the food lacked flavor... it was meh. What a great find! There is a large parking lot as it is shared with a school. We came for breakfast on a Saturday morning. It was not too crowded so we got seated right away The staff was very very friendly and very attentive The food was great. Rice and beans had great flavor. Make a stop here to eat. You will not be disappointed

The host and our waiter were nice, offered chips and salsa, horchata was really good & the food came in super quick! I got the combination place with one enchilada and two flautas and beans and rice for the side ! They really stuff the food with chicken is great !! They also bring sour cream and guacamole for the sides!

I ordered the regular burrito. The portion was huge. The problem was it just wasn't good. I tried to give it a chance but a few bites and I was out. Staff were really nice though, but i can't see myself trying it again.

La Milpa continues to be a Milpitas favorite - with consistent quality and the best service around. Tonight, the a la carte Chimichanga did the trick. Fried golden brown and filled with moist, shredded chicken. Topped with guacamole and sour crème, it's even better covered in their red salsa. Very attentive service without being rushed. Plenty of parking in the large lot out front.

Old school Mexican restaurant with traditional decor. Many people are regulars here. Good service, traditional menu. Chile verde was a bit watery but flavor was good. Chicken enchiladas were solid, lots of meat.

This place is very cute and cozy. Came here on a Sunday afternoon and was seated instantly. Service was very quick. Food was good. I didn't think the tacos would be a big portion. My meal was around $16. I would say it's a good place to bring families because of the space. I would recommend anyone to come here.

Their green sauce for their enchilada was super super good. A little expensive but it was pretty good

I normally go there to eat menudo , the menudo there is bomb! But this time I decided to eat something different and i order carne asada.. beans and rice delicious.. carne asada was ok, i like it well done, i forgot to let them know, but i normally get asked . Michelada was delish.. serving excellent and place is always clean

We are vegetarian. We ordered 2 lemonades, one small orange juice, one vegetarian burrito, one red enchilada, one spanish omelet with warm corn tortillas. Total cost was $52.64. Service was great. Sara was sweet and fast with bringing our order. Decor and place was very unique. The vegetarian burrito was bland, as they just stuffed rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, and tiny amount of cheese. It was VERY bland, and I wished they added some sauce. Red enchiladas were horrible. A undercooked tortilla with beans surrounding it. The cheese on top of it was okay though. Beans didn't taste great. Omelet looked horrible. Plating was crazy bad. Bean dumped on a plate with an omelet thrown, and the omelet was soggy because of the beans. Red sauce on top was bad. The omelet was bland, and not worth it at all. Tortillas were undercooked, and were hard to eat. Drinks were clearly from the brand minute made. It's okay since we were expecting that. The only good things about this place are the service and the chips. Sara brought us a basket of chips with one salsa and a red dip. Salsa was good, but the red dip was an acquired taste, and wasn't for me. Chips were average, but it was on the house which was sweet. Overall, this place wasn't good, but it might just be us as I see many positive reviews. Would not come again nor recommend.

We love Milpa's salsas and their mole enchiladas are our favorite of anywhere! Cozy seating area too.

Staff and Service: - Upon entering the restaurant, there is a host stand where you'll wait to be seated - This was a bit chaotic when I arrived as there was someone trying to order takeout, someone trying to pay a bill, a mother and child trying to be seated, and myself. The entrance isn't very large, so we were all in each other's way trying to get what we needed to proceed Food: - Enchilada Plate: this dish was good, but it wasn't anything spectacular. The food salad quickly got warm from it sitting in the enchilada sauce when it was served to me. The cheese on top of the beans seemed like it had been sitting there for a while - House Salad: my friend always orders this and says it's one of her favorites Miscellaneous: - Parking is available via a shared parking lot with other businesses (plenty of parking)

Came here around 4 years ago for lunch with some coworkers, it's always been a restaurant I keep in my back pocket. I was craving nachos yesterday, and after yelping where I can get the best nachos-- La Milpa was the clear and obvious winner. :) The nachos hit the spot and did not hurt my wallet either. Haha I paid around $19 for a big plate. all in all, my nacho craving has been satisfied :)

Still decent food, but buffet is no longer a great deal and prices are up for basic Mexican food

To start I got chile verde from the special plate section, and the meat was gray, never in my life have I seen grey pork. It completely lacked any flavor, salt didn't even help it. I'm actually so appalled at the foods presentation and that the kitchen staff would serve food that looked like that. If I could give it a 0 I would. The staff was nice enough, I just think they really need to have a team meeting about standards because damn.

Been coming here for years with my Grandma after church sometimes. The food is great! Most recently I went with my Mom and I ordered the steak plate with rice, beans, and a salad. Wow was the salad huge and tasted great! I ended up sharing it with my Mom because there was so much. :) Steak tasted great as well as the rice and beans. Definitely a great place to go with friendly waiters.

La Milpa has been around for decades in Milpitas. This is a testament to the quality of food served here. Solid Mexican cuisine. As with any restaurant, some dishes excel more than others. I would inquire with the staff what their most popular items are. Some things that stand out with this restaurant are bottomless chips and salsa, and soup of the day that comes with dinner entrees. The soup is not your typical cheap broth-like soup that restaurants serve for free. It's very hearty with chunks of meat and vegetables. The ambience is warm and welcoming. They have a good variety of items on their menu. You'll notice a lot of locals and elderly that visit this restaurant due to its friendly atmosphere which caters to family gatherings.

First time trying this place. My mom's never happy and she did NOT complain. I basically judge a place based on their guacamole and it was "we fought over it good".

Came here because I heard it's been a staple here in milpitas, been around for decades. When we got there, we were greeted and seated right away. They provided chips, salsa and pico de Gallo. Salsa was good, but i didn't care for the pico de Gallo. The food was nothing special. Their tortilla soup was the best thing I tasted there (although a little more on the saltier side, but good flavor nonetheless. The entrees we ordered didn't have much flavor. The bistec picado just tasted like tomatoes stewed. The meat itself didn't have flavor. The rice was very plain and lacked flavor. The beans were not appetizing. The cheeseburger tasted like a standard cheeseburger, although I didn't expect much from a Mexican restaurant that serves burgers. Their fries were nice and crisp. The horchata was decent. On the food alone, I would have given a 2/5 but the service was great, so I gave them an extra start. The restaurant itself was a traditional family style restaurant.

Ordered 2 enchilada's for a door dash delivery. first the food was prepared on a paper plate covered with another and foiled the top, both were packaged this way. then the door dasher arrived with the food in a dash bag swung it over his shoulder and set it on our door step. we opened the food and everything was all on one side of the plate spilled over and mind u the foil didn't hold. what happened to using to go topper ware??? I was really upset about it and they only refunded $5 each plate ‍‍ its bs they shoulda refunded the whole amount $50.00!!!!!!! bull#%#%%€!!!!!!!

Came back after many a years since the last visit, and a slight update is in need. On my initial visit, I think I was a bit too snobby and trying to nit-pick on how authentic they could be. I am changing my stance as the recent re-visit got me to mellow out and just enjoy things for what they are, and not what I think they should be. Maybe it's age, but whatever it is, I am fine with it. So the place looks exactly how I remember it, maybe even a bit more worn, as nothing has changed. The service is still great and the food is still solid. Now this isn't the kind of Mexican restaurant that actual Mexicans go to. This is straight up for the suburban masses. But boy are they dialed in on those suburban palates and appetites. Bohemia ($7ish/5*) Okay part of my star bumpage is due to them offering this. It is my favorite Mexican lager and so few Mexican restaurants offer it. I love it with Mexican flavors and textures, so I gotta give them props for serving it. Enchilada & Relleno Combo ($17/4.5*) I chose shredded beef to go inside my enchilada. Very proper with tender Chile Colorado or even barbacoa vibes. They put just enough sauce to moisten it without drowning in it. Though I'm not thoroughly against a drowning enchilada, if the sauce is good, and this most certainly was. The Chile Relleno was okay, a nice hunk of Oaxacan cheese stuffs and is super similar to a creamy mozz. Thoroughly melted with a legit cheese pull. The egg batter was just meh to me, I actually prefer rellenos to be just roasted pepper without a coating, but those are harder to come by. This also was covered in sauce, but can't remembered if it had its own sauce or same as the enchilada. It all just blended together seemlessly, even the beans and rice was all melded in unity on this piping hot plate. So yeah, the flavors hit, the textures hit, and with the pairing of the crisp and cold beer (2 of them without effort), just made for a winning meal, that I can't and shouldn't complain about. Simple, easy, pure.

Hear good things about this place before going yesterday. I was not disappointed. The staff is nice the food was yummy. I hope to go back when I am hungrier to try something else.

Staff was super friendly and attentive. The decor was colorful and festive. I'm assuming leftover decor from Cinco de Mayo! The food was tasty, and had a lot of flavor! The portions were huge! Despite the closure of the hardware store, they managed to stay afloat. Props to them!

They have no tequila here. If you're looking for a Mexican restaurant with drinks and good food this is not the place.....food was okay...there is better around in this area.

I've been coming to this restaurant for almost 40 years now. The staff may change, but the food does not. I always order the same dish, crab and shrimp enchiladas. I've had other dishes, but I keep coming back for this particular dish. I'm not a regular, it's been years since I've been here, but it's worth the 36 mile drive on ocasión.

First time visit to this small Mexican restaurant located in a strip mall that was recommended by a family member. Boy was she right ! Friendly server and fast service. Complimentary chips with 2 kinds of salsa to munch awaiting our order on the table. Enjoyed an excellent Mexican, breakfast of potatoes, eggs, spicy chorizo, and beans with warm corn tortillas. Beans were very good. Another family member had the cocido (caldo de res) with a side order of rice which was very tasty and a large portion, enough to have a takeaway. Even the coffee was very good.

Great service, greater promptly and guided to a table. Chips and salsa served right away. Beverage was also brought with out delay. Old school design reminds me of the mom and pop places I went to as a kid. Food was great. Besides adding the sauce and cheese to the Tamale no changes required. Pico de gallo and a smooth salsa served with the chips. No complaints, I will come back if I'm in the area.

I 've been stopping by La Milpa for my entire working life. It has been a consistent winner on service and food. Never had a bad meal over the last roughly 40 years. I am surprised that have not reviewed it sooner. The service is prompt, essential when you have limited time for lunch. I would call it Mexican comfort food. The only reason I doc'd it one star was that it hasn't changed to a more diverse Mexican offerings. That is not necessarily bad.

Been awhile since I've been here and didn't recognize any server. Pricing is certainly higher. I ordered a large burrito which was very large. However, portions of the meet were cold which is odd. Not sure if I'll be back soon, as it's just not the same.

The staff at La Milk are super friendly! When I was seated, chips and salsa were served. They offer two different types of salsa - chunky salsa and smooth salsa which was nice. I personally am a fan of smooth salsa. Refills of chips are also available if you finish them all before your food arrives. I got the chimichanga plate with beef. Although the price was a little higher than what I've usually seen, they don't skimp on the portion. There was so much beef in the chimichanga that it was almost triple the amount that chipotle gives. There's nothing but beef inside too! For the sides, the rice was a little bland for my liking but the texture and fluff was on point. The beans were smooth and tasty. I had a bite of my friend's beef enchilada and it wasn't too bad. Overall, La Milpa is a solid 4 or even a 4.5. I'll definitely be back to try other items when I'm craving Mexican in Milpitas.

The menudo lacked taste had to add salt and the tortillas were cold. I couldn't underatand the waitress even when I let her know i spoke spanish also.

A 5 star for a great to go order this past weekend! I called a bit after 11:30am on Sunday to place a to go order. The only slight thing was that they quoted me about 25 min, but it took closer to 45 to get the food. They were busy, so that's a good sign, hence the wait. The food was delish! We ordered a few combo plates. They used plates and covered them with foil. They must have just prepared the food as it was still piping hot when it got home. Pickup was also easy there. As the food was not ready they asked us to wait outside and got us when it was. The quality of the food was great. Tasted very good. A+ for using composable plates versus plastic containers.

La Milpa has been a Milpitas institution for many years. I can't believe that I haven't reviewed them until now. If you want tried and true, traditional Mexican fare, La Milpa is the place for you. They don't have fancy fixins, but their food is reliable and hearty each time. I have not had a bad meal at La Mipla. My favorites are their chorizo and eggs breakfast, pork chimichanga and carne asada burrito. Don't forget the guac! Their guac is made fresh with chunks of avocado. There are no extra fillers or lime and you can truly taste the avocados. Service is on point each time. They're so welcoming that it feels like you're not at a restaurant, but at someone's home. Their decor is old school, but comfy. Parking is ample and never an issue. Prices are also reasonable and a great deal considering they give you HUGE portions.

Nope, not the place. Service was good but the food Just wasn't for me. I would give another try but not Sure if I'd plan to come back soon.
