The Best Restaurants and Bars in The Woodlands | Eater Houston

"With a sleek, clubby vibe, this Monterey-style restaurant offers an upscale menu that showcases dishes prepared on a Josper grill imported from Barcelona. Standouts include shrimp and snapper ceviche dripping in ghost pepper citrus broth, chicken enchiladas, grilled rib-eye served with charred shishito peppers, and esquites — Monarca’s Mexican-style street corn salad that’s crowned with crispy leeks and queso fresco. Tequila here is a given. Choose from a long list to concoct the perfect margarita. Then, continue the fun after dinner by slipping into the restaurant’s speakeasy, Gus, which is tucked behind a nondescript door at the back of the restaurant." - Laura L. Green

Google
I enjoyed their Chamoyadas, they have several flavors to choose from. They have a great selection of ice cream & Mexican paletas. I also tried their Elote ( corn in a cup) and it was pretty good. They have been very nice and friendly.

I love the mangonada's! Service usually sucks but the snacks are why I come back.

First time going here. We loved it! 😋

“Everything seems delicious to me. I’ve known this place since I was a teenager. The staff is friendly, and the food is excellent. What I did notice, though, is that the bathrooms were closed and marked ‘out of service,’ which I found curious because one of the employees came out of there. I also noticed that the lobby was a bit dirty.”

Google
Hands down the best mangonadas in town! Also, their pink agua de frutas, omg! That drink is so addicting and yummy. Everything on the menu is good, like their elote, paletas and ice cream. Prices are definitely unbeatable and their customer service is top tier.

Google
I got different items, a paleta, milkshake, the one with the scoops and toppings and something else. For me, the milkshake was the worst of them all. It’s not even a milkshake it’s ice with ice creams and milk it was bad. I drank it because what’s the point of wasting it but very bad

Google
This is right next door to our favorite Peruvian restaurant so I had to try it. I always measure a new ice cream place by their coffee scoop. They measure up very well with their almond coffee scoop. I'll be back for more.

Google
Mangonadas.. This was our first time trying them. It was different than we both imaged. The Mangonadas taste like salted plums (Phillipines candies), fresh Mango, savory salt and a little tangy. It was a fun treat. We both want to try again, when mangos are sweet.

Yelp
First of all, you cannot beat the price! Everything here is homemade. They have popsicles, fruit drinks, Mexican specialties and more Every time I've been by, there are always a line of folks, but it moves quickly. I've onlyhave their ice cream, so that's all I can speak for... But knowing there's always a line means they are doing a great job. The shopping center is a little sketch, so I suggest you go during daylight hours. Definitely don't pass this place up, it's a hidden gem!! Trust me!

Yelp
Just left from trying for the first time. OMG this Mixed Fruit Agua Fresca is sooooo refreshing!! Mango, Watermelon, and Strawberry.... YUMMY!! Both ladies were super nice and welcoming. Even though there was a slight language barrier, we figured things out together, and she had a bright smile the entire time. The other lady told me she's still learning English, I told her no worries and no rush, she'll definitely get it in no time. Both ladies were full of smiles. I can't wait to go back and try more things!

Yelp
Great and fast service! Perfectly staffed, these guys didn't skip a beat. They had a good system and took care of customers efficiently.

Yelp
The fiancé was looking for a Mexican ice cream place that landed us at La Monarca Michoacana! They have ice cream bars with fresh fruit frozen in them, home made ice cream, and Mangonadas!!! Some of the ladies didn't speak English but they always have someone there who does! I believe they also serve hot foods like elotes, etc. But let's backtrack to that mangonada.. it's all we come here for now. It's frozen in little cups and when you order it, they run a knife through it, add some chamoy and fresh lime juice and it is absolutely delicious and refreshing. You get the sweetness of the mangos, there's definitely frozen mango chunks in it, the salt of the chamoy and a little bit of spice! So so good! Come get one and thank me later!

Mercedes R.

Yelp
Fantastic ice cream lots of flavors and the Mexican popsicles! Cute place Want to come back and try more

Yelp
Good popsicles! They are reasonably priced. I am glad I live close by. I am looking for to going back again. Of course, I am taking my ice bag.

Yelp
Came here for mangonada and it did not disappoint. Came on a Saturday and there was a long line of people who wanted something sweet and cold for the hot summer day. Mangonadas were $3.75 and very refreshing with tons of flavor. We got 2 palletas - the strawberry and cream and the assorted fruit - both were amazing! All of the desserts are super affordable and will definitely return. I also can't believe there was one so close to where I grew up and I never knew about it!

Yelp
Excelente servicio, variedad de productos y muy deliciosos... fácil de encontrar y atienden super rápido!

Yelp
My friends have picked up ice creams for me from this place earlier. They usually have a deal where you buy 10 paletas and get 2 free. This is also very affordable place where the Paletas are of $2-3 each. I ordered cookies and cream this time and got 2 whole Oreos in my paletas. It tasted awesome. My friend got strawberry and cream and it literally had strawberry pieces in it. I surely recommend.

Yelp
Hidden gem in the area for mangonadas and homemade ice cream. I've stopped here once before and decided to stop again. I purchased two mangonadas especial that came with salsaghetti and gummi worms/bears for $5.50 each. I couldn't resist their arroz con leche paletas, so I picked up two of those as well. Upon entering, the place was extremely clean looking. They lost one star though due to customer service - an employee noticed me as I walked in and left the area for a good two to three minutes before returning without saying a word to me. Overall, the mangonadas were very tasty. They are previously frozen, so it takes a bit of the Houston heat to soften them up. Their paletas are delicious too, but a bit pricey at $2 a pop.

Yelp
Me & my boyfriend got a Large Elote & Nachos. All for $7.80. The elote was so yummy and flavorful, the nachos hit the spot. The lady in the front was super sweet and helpful. Make sure to know some Spanish :) We will be back to try the mangonada and paletas, they looked good and fresh.

Yelp
I used to go here a lot and every time I had out of town guests I would take them to La Monarca. NEVER AGAIN!!! Rude, rude, rude! The lady working Sunday morning 4/2 was extremely rude, I'm never going back. If you don't like working with people or you are not a friendly person, you should not be behind the counter. Food is ok, but there's better places closer to home.
google avatar

Yelp
Don't even try coming. I don't understand why people work here if they don't even want to serve people. And don't bother calling to order ahead they have the phone next to the register and don't even bother to pick it up. I thought they might of been busy but I drive up and not a single person in line. Honestly has gone down in service. It's sad. This used to be one of my fav ice cream shops.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been to a few specialty ice cream shops and also a couple of paleta spots. I personally used to go to el Pibe by Crosstimbers area and buy the coconut flavor La Brisa brand. I tried this spot because we had Peruvian food next door and wanted something sweet. I decided to try the mexican cheese flavor, eggnog and regular chocolate. The tongue coatness level is over 100%. It's like eating custardy frozen milk! The flavors for the 3 that we got are on point. I would prefer no raisins in the eggnog but it didnt ruin the flavor at all. I will be back and try their paletas when I am not so full!

Jaylene N.

Yelp
Me encantó el producto, definitivamente lo recomendaría a mis amigos. El personal fue amable y atento en todo momento. Lo recomiendo:)

Yelp
Easy the best mangonada in town. The flavor of lime and real mango really come through in this one. Their assortment of pops are also amazing. My gf and I love anything fruit-related for the pop flavors!
google avatar

Shay B.

Yelp
If you're looking for a sweet treat, this is the place! Hands down the best ice cream in the area. I believe it's all natural, and the texture is perfect, just the right amount of cream.
google avatar

Kaylee N.

Yelp
Wonderful ice cream shop! The ice cream was delicious, probably even better than Creamistry for a cheaper price! I love the mangonada and the coconut ice cream! Will be back to try more!

Yelp
This place is a gem! Ever since moving to Houston I've been looking for a place to find my paleta fix and I found it here. Each paleta is $2, and if you buy 10 you get 2 for free. They have a mix of fruit ones with ice and others with a mix of cream. Absolutely delicious. I love the fresh strawberry with cream and the icy strawberry.
google avatar

David P.

Yelp
Excellent ice cream! Had Red Velvet and Cookies n' Cream which were both amazing. Small is plenty and medium (2scoops) is A LOT.

Yelp
I came here specifically for the mangonada. Anything that looks colorful. I want to try. While waiting for mangonada to be prepared, i was looking at the many ice cream and frozen fruit bars. I got the fruit, cheesecake and butter pecan...the butter pecan was my favorite. The cheesecake mostly tasted like vanilla, and i would have enjoyed the fruit if it wasn't so sweet. Now, back to the mangonada. At first taste, I was not really crazy about it--too spicy. All I tasted was the tajin and chamoy. So I did not eat but a very little, amd put the rest in the freezer. When i finally returned to it, let it thaw out some, it tasted a little better, and I was thinking that I might buy again, but with less tajin and chamoy. But then it hit me: as the mango, tajin, and chamoy melded more together, I was like, Wow! This is delicious! Before, I really could not taste the mango. But the second go round, I tasted all the flavors. I definitely will get again, but will still get with less seasonings.

Yelp
I loved this place! So much variety and customizable options. You see a lot of mainstream places offering the trendiness of what this authentic ice cream place provides. Clean, great customer service and some indoor seating. At the time we went in all the seating was occupied, but that was just validation that the treats must be delicious. And it was! My little one loved his bubble gum flavored cream pop and o enjoyed my scoop of red velvet ice cream. I plan on returning with my family again!
google avatar

Natalie F.

Yelp
Super tasty popsicles! Reminded me of my childhood. There are so many different flavors and you can't beat a homemade paleta. The woman behind the counter made sure to tell us about the buy 10, get 2 free deal so we tried as many flavors as we could. The mango and guava flavors are my favorite so far.
google avatar

Christina S.

Yelp
Best place to satisfy almost any craving (especially those late night ones), plus everything is very reasonable! Can't really go wrong with anything on the menu!

Alexis J.

Yelp
The ice cream here is stellar! I got the Gansito ice cream and it was amazing! Definitely a throwback to when I was a kid. We got the corn in a cup, but the white corn tasted a bit undercooked. Other than that, it was still pretty good. I want to give it another try, so I'll be back!!

Alejandra R.

Yelp
I was just told by a worker that she doesnt have time to prepare tostios why hire people that cant help customers smh

Elaine T.

Yelp
This is a true hidden gem!!! All of their ice creams are hand crafted. Small & clean interior, with nice staffs. Reasonable pricing (mine was $2 something) Pistachio cream popsicle - a BIG hit, wasn't too sweet and had chunks of fresh pistachios in there for a kick, very creamy It was a hot summer day so I wanted to try the popsicle first, definitely going back here many times. Update: It's been over a year and I've tried everything on their menu. Mfavorites would be oreo, mango & nuts for the popsicle but their iced ones are good too. Overall you will be more than satisfied with any flavor!!
google avatar

Martha V.

Yelp
My first time here and loved it! Came on a Sunday and they were pretty busy but service was fast! Love their natural popsicles and chamoyada! Definitely recommend!
google avatar

J T.

Yelp
A variety of ice cream flavors and the mangonada is heavenly. The staff is super friendly. It's a quick in and out for a refreshing summer treat!
google avatar

A B.

Yelp
Friendly service, homemade ice cream with wide range of standard and creative flavors like Gansito (after the Mexican chocolate-covered treat), and great aguas frescas! The staffer recommended their Agua de Frutas and offered a sample. It's delicious! (And the place is impeccably clean.) We'll be back often!
google avatar

Laura D.

Yelp
Love this place!!! Elotes, nachos, paletas so so deli! Awesome service too and the place is always clean.
google avatar

SFbaygolfe R.

Yelp
Went to the Peruvian restaurant next door and popped-in just to see what they offered. I couldn't believe my eyes. Fruit flavors generally not seen north of the border. For the acid test, I tried a coconut ice cream cone. It was good. Next time, will go for mamey. My wife got the pine nut ice cream and that was good too. This flavor concept was beyond my comfort zone and delightfully challenged another one of my self imposed limitations.
google avatar

Yelp
Perfection at its best. I love this place. Hot Cheetos con queso my mouth is watering.
google avatar

Ed R.

Yelp
Not pet friendly. Slow service . Understaffed Unfriendly staff overall Very small location
google avatar

Karen B.

Yelp
These are Mexican refreshments at their finest from all natural fruit Popsicles with flavors like coconut or avocado to the more traditional cold treats like Tamarindo and horchata, smoothies and fruits in a cup sprinkled withe chili powder. They also serve nachos and every kids dream, an open bag of hot cheetos drowned in hot queso. So if you're looking for the best and most delicious way to cool down in this hot weather, I strongly suggest you try it out.
google avatar

Alondra R.

Yelp
The best snack place in Houston! They have the tastiest apples with chamoy & candy goodies. Delicious! Also the mangonadas have amazing flavor and real chunks of mango. The elote is delicious but BEWARE the sauce to put in it is actually SUPER spicy. I was warned but didn't think it would be too bad. It definitely was! Great place though. Definitely recommend!!

Rene H.

Yelp
Very friendly, attentive and clean place, great flavor on any ice cream and my favorite is the Chongos, mangonada is delicious. I got a pistachio skimal and a mango con chamoy paleta. Try this Mexican ice cream shop.
google avatar

Jackie N.

Yelp
This is a wonderful shop that offers homemade Mexican ice cream. It has numerous unique flavors available as ice cream, many also available as frozen bars/popsicles - $1.50 - $2. Flavors include tropical fruits, unusual combinations, some with oreos. I tried eggnog with raisins and coffee with almonds. $3.35 total for both
google avatar

Elise L.

Yelp
This place has the best popsicles! I love the coconut one and the cheesecake one. There are many options to choose from and the price is perfect at 2$ a popsicle : )
google avatar

Sharmi S.

Yelp
Find of the century! I will never go to a "gourmet" popsicle shop ever again as these Mexican ice cream bars taste better and are way cheaper! $2 a pop. They have both water based and milk based popsicles- I have only tried the milk based ice cream bars so far. Of these, pistachio and strawberries and cream really blew me away. Very authentic and tasty! They also have mangonadas on their menu as well as alternative fruit bases for chamoy such as strawberry, pineapple, watermelon among others. Can't wait to try!
google avatar

Nallely G.

Yelp
I found this place online it's so good! It has different kinds of ice cream ( gansitooo, cheese, bubble gum, and many more) they're very unique and it's always full. It has mangonadas limonadas, and other things. If you like to try different things or if you like mangonadas go! You won't regret it!

Nancy R.

Yelp
Really enjoy this place. They're very nice and generous with their portions as well as they have a big variety. You can also make changes or modifications with little to no cost.

Alicia M.

Yelp
I just moved to this neighborhood from the heights, and this ice cream shop is better than the 6-7 ice cream parlors within driving distance from my Previous Heights Blvd home. We tried the coconut ice cream, pistachio ice cream and the water mixer... all three were outstanding. The coconut was the best gift I have ever had. The pistachio ice cream is only beat out by what I've had in Italy. I was skeptical the water mixer, but everyone in the party before us got it... so I jumped on that band wagon! Before coming here I was bummed about leaving all the heights creameries behind... no more! This is my new ice cream shop!

Guiselle V.

Yelp
Best coconut ice cream!! Also the popsicles are very good specially if dipped in chocolate! And not to mention the choco bananas!!

Alexis A.

Yelp
Awesome staff and creative menu options. Very good ice cream variety and unique popsicle ingredients. Staff is helpful, friendly and are constantly keeping it clean and tidy.

Mary C.

Yelp
The ice cream and paletas are good. But the nachos were very stale they tasted nasty.

Valenciaga L.

Yelp
This is my favorite place ever, the guy employee who is always there is super nice and respectful and attends you right when you get there. The mangonadas are bomb and as well as the Oreo popsicle 10/10. I love this place I haven't been to any other refresceria other than this one.

Cindy M.

Yelp
I just found this place and I can't stop coming back!!! Everything is so delicious here! chamoyadas are on point! And I love the chocolate cookies and cream ice cream on a waffle cone. They have so much on the menu that you will be sure to find something to keep you coming back.
