The 17 Best Pizza Spots In Rome 2024

"La Montecarlo, which has been slinging some of the best pizza in Rome consistently since 1986, is your spot for a fast, flavorful pie. Their margherita pizza is thinner than most, with a crisp crust and bubbly, blistered mozzarella that might remind you of a classic New York cheese slice. And yet, this puts most of what you can find in NYC to shame. The sausage and potato white pizza is also good: the soft and chewy dough comes generously topped with golden cheese, fatty sausage, and tender cubes of perfectly roasted potatoes. Even though it's close to the Pantheon and Piazza Navona, the crowd is more made up of locals requesting extra basil for their margherita than tourists." - annie replogle

Our local resource highly suggested this place near our Airbnb. We were seated right away even though the rest of our party was still on the way. We had to order all the food at the same time, but the starters came first. Ryan says the fried mozzarella is the best he’s had in the world!! It’s exactly what we needed after a day of sightseeing!

Google
Best pizza I've had in the two days I have been in Rome! The decor may not be that of the most romantic rustic Roman family restaurant (which they are aware of and joke about). I had a pizza with tomato sauce, mozzarella and sausage inspired by YouTuber Alex Mark Travel. This simple pizza had the most flavor on a thin Roman style crust. Wife's buffalo basil pizza was also delicous. If you're looking for great pizza, this is the place.

Google
The food is authentically good, love the burnt crispy pizza. However, is overrated, you can find better pizza in rome for sure. The tiramisu is a must try The service, raw, these ppl has no filter, i wish they could be nicer. We intentionally went before mealtime to avoid the crowd but the waiters did not really care that we are there.

Google
An amazing find in Rome. One of the best pizzas I tried and pasta goes the same way. Their tomato sauce is amazing and Carbonara is so delicious!

Google
Great people, great place, and great food. Would recommend the 4 cheese pizza as it was fantastic. Very reasonably priced and one of my favourite restaurants in Rome.

Google
I was a little skeptical when I walked by the place but a buddy of mine told me to have a bite. I’m not going to lie, some of the best pasta and ravioli I have had in Rome. The issue is in Rome the food is made for the tourist, as they wouldn’t know. If I have a plate of pasta in Little Italy NYC it shouldn’t taste the same as in Rome, but In alot of places it does because it’s frozen or pre prepared for tourism and not good fresh authentic stuff. This place makes their own pasta and everything else. As soon as you bite into it, you know. It’s not fancy by any means but if you want good food come here and get off the regular path this is the real deal.

Alisa Nemets

Google
Nasty waiters. I expected more out of the pizza after reading all the Great reviews. It wasn’t flavorful. Very bland. The pasta with clams had a few foul tasting clams and what tasted like sand. I would not recommend this place.

Google
Greed runs this place. They refused to offer me service because the items I wanted to order totaled the amount of 15 euros. I went ahead and added items to my order, which totaled 25 euros, and they were fine with that. Worst restaurant experience in all of my 10 years coming to Rome. Their pizza is as flat as a tortilla and not much taste, a shame for italian cusine! Save your money, there are many better options for pizza in rome, dont let the amount of reviews for this restaurant fool you. Although one of their waiters did come up to me and apologized for the other waiter's (or manager's) service and refusal to serve. Whoever that was, thank you. Will not be visiting again.

Yelp
How have I not known about this delicious and inexpensive pizza place? I walked there from the Pantheon area. Big noisy casual place. Lots of seating outside. Steady stream of locals late into the evening. No wifi. No 1/2 orders (I tried 1/2 margherita and 1/2 mushroom. They said no.) Ultimately got a mushroom pizza. Typical Roman style- crispy this crust. Yummy!! Delicious. Started with a fried zucchini flower which was good but then made it hard to finish my pizza! Service was attentive.

Yelp
Worst service I've gotten in a restaurant in Italy. We weren't too hungry and we had 3 hours til dinner so we had a group of 7 people and wanted to order 4 pizzas to share. The waiter got pissed and explained to us that we HAVE to order 1 pizza per person even though they're big. He said if we want to share to go somewhere else and didn't even give us a chance to order anything else, he just stormed off. So we left.

Yelp
If you want great italian food on a budget, Go to La Montecarlo. very busy place a d one of the top In Rome. It is a busy cantina, but food and service is great. Do not expect a pompous greeting, it is all about efficiency and time. But you will never leave disappointed nor hungry

Yelp
La Montecarlo came highly recommended by the manager of my Air b and b. The food was a great introduction to Italy, with terrific caccio e Pepe, pizza, and wine. Highly recommended.

Yelp
This is another restaurant that is overlooked but should not be. We have eaten here every time we have come to Rome in the last 10 years. It is consistently good. There is always a jovial vibe going on in this restaurant. We ate in twice and ordered takeout once. On our first visit, we enjoyed the 4-cheese pizza; bruschetta with tomatoes, black olives and cannellini beans; and a chocolate mousse for dessert. We ordered the 4-cheese pizza for takeout. On our second visit, we had 2 suppli, crostini with prosciutto and cheese, ravioli with spinach & ricotta, and an onion and mushroom pizza. Everything was freshly prepared and delicious. This restaurant is one of our favorites in Rome.

Yelp
Delicious pizza and pasta We visited this restaurant on the recommendation of a fellow traveller and we just loved it. We were happy with the delicious salad we had to start off with, but the pizza and pasta were outstanding. The house wine was ok and the prices were very reasonable

Yelp
Service was helpful and friendly. Food was good enough and quick. It was our first night here and was the perfect low key, no drama place to stop at. I have had better pizza, but it tastes good, and was made well.

Yelp
We ended up here our first night in Rome after wandering by several other restaurants that we couldn't eat at because we didn't had a reservation. We just wanted some pizza, pasta and wine and this had all three. The wine was 10euro for a carafe and the food was pretty much all 10euro and less. We got a 9euro platter of cheese as an appetizer that came with whole grocery store sized blocks of cheese so you really can't complain about that. Pizza was good, but the style is not my preference. Pasta was good too but nothing special. Food all came out quickly. All in all there was nothing *wrong* with the restaurant, but I probably wouldn't go back when there are so many amazing places to eat in this city (unless I was staying for a long time.)

Yelp
This place has the best gnocchi in Rome. La Montecarlo is amazing for vegetarians and meat eaters. Come for lunch, dinner, and breakfast. Eating outdoors is nice the inside of the restaurant is clean and nice. I LOVE IT! Amazing pizzas and pastas (get the gnocchi, cacio e pepe, and margarita pizza). The severs were very kind and didn't vape in your face like other restaurant's severs.

Yelp
Very first stop after checking into the hotel upon arriving to Rome. Found this restaurant in walking distance of where we were staying. From previous reviews we were skeptical of the hospitality here but were taken by surprise. The establishment is a decent size, offering both indoor and outdoor seating. The side of the restaurant we were seated on reminded me of a bus lol it was a very narrow hallway with tables on both sides & at the very end of the hallway a glass window where you can see inside the kitchen. The house white wine was delicious and very cheap. I ordered a pepperoni pizza and the only thing I disliked was that it wasn't precut (I've noticed no restaurants here precut their pizza before bringing it to the table). My boyfriend had pasta tossed in a butter & pepper sauce. He enjoyed his meal, complimenting how perfectly cooked the pasta was (al dente). I would recommend.

Yelp
Amazing food and the pizza is delicious. It was the third time my wife has been here and she loves it.

Yelp
Amazing authentic pizza, good quality food for pretty low price in the center of touristic area. The place is not fancy, but food is delicious and service is fast. It is the must visit place, if you want to have a really good italian food avoiding touristic traps.

Yelp
We had dinner at Monte Carlo and the experience was nothing worth remembering. Their pizza and pasta were mediocre. I definitely had much better pizza and pasta at similar price range all around Italy and in Rome.

Yelp
3.5 stars. So glad to have stumbled upon this place! Place seems more like a locals spot, which is a welcome surprise, off in a quieter alley, tucked in between Piazza Navona and Campo Di Fiore! They serve crispy thin crust style pizzas, which are not your typical Roman style pizzas, but what hubs prefers anyway. We ate here a few times getting takeaway since it was quick and easy, with pizzas and pastas cooked to order, and close to where we were staying. So glad to have found this place!!! The pastas were a bit on the salty side, which I'm finding is typical of pasta dishes in Rome. They are pretty busy evenings, as the place was hopping with locals night after night. Not a fancy spot, but the meal stacked up with some of the pricier joints we frequented in the tourist trap laden areas of Navona and Campo!

Yelp
Hotel recommended as best if the best pizza in Rome. Pizza as it should be made. Why the hype? Bland. Boring. Uninspired. If this is Italian pizza, America has nothing to be ashamed of with it's pizza game. Zucchini flowers with cheese and anchovies...there were no anchovies. Boring. Last meal in Rome and not sad to say goodbye to food in Rome.

Yelp
I wanted to love La Montecarlo but the pizza was just ok and I've definitely had better in Italy. The pizza crust was good but overall I didn't love it. The atmosphere and service is great though.

Yelp
After checking in at our Airbnb, our host suggested this nearby restaurant for a quick and easy meal, and said it was frequented by many locals. Later that night we ended up here (somewhat unplanned) after our evening Colosseum tour. At ~10pm on a Saturday night the place was packed, and we managed to steal the last inside table (the outside tables looked to be very popular). NOTE - They don't take credit cards, and we had to budget appropriately as we were low on cash (yes I was mad lol). They have signs everywhere that they don't appreciate photos. I didn't follow the rules, but I did only take pictures when no one was looking lol. One thing you'll note straight off the bat in Italy is that the service isn't great. Ok, not that it isn't great, it's just very different from the American mentality of "quick and fast" as as we learned later on another tour there are certain rules and tips you should follow to get things done your way (such as a) you must ask for the check, they will never just bring it and b) they'll often forget to bring it when you ask, but they'll never forget to bring coffee, so always ask for coffee AND the check). As Italian standards go, I found the service here to be ok, and we managed to make it upstairs and to bed at a reasonable time. As money was a slight issue we stuck to water, and I even had to settle for a 7 euro pasta dish, instead of the most expensive 10 euro dish I wanted (sigh lol) but in the end it all turned out alright and my carbonara was quite delicious. My step father had a pizza (turns out the Rome style is VERY thin and we enjoyed the Napoleon style a little more later on the trip). Of course the final bill was around 21 euro and we had about 40 in cash so I could have gotten my desired pasta (double sigh), but like I mentioned it was alright and I look fondly back on this meal, mostly because of the interaction with the staff and their joking around with us. When we left our server/owner/manager? yelled "see you tomorrow" and we actually agreed, and planned to go back, which of course never happened, but we did want to!

Yelp
After a long day of walking around throughout the streets, this place was impecable. The inside of the restaurant was full and hot, so we asked for the last table available outside. They gave us a paper tablecloth for the table, which may seem sort of tacky, however their chairs and tables were mostly plastic anyways so it fit the vibe. The only down fall would have been the plastic chairs, as it made the place seem cheap. However, the food was amazing. We had a pesto linguine and a ricotta and spinach ravioli. The noodles on the pesto linguine were 100% cooked al dente! The linguine pesto was good for a lighter meal and the ravioli was definitely on the heavier side but it worked out perfectly for us to share. To top it off, our waiter was very attractive. Next time I am in Rome, which is hopefully soon, I will be stopping by again!

Yelp
Great pasta, good service This place was recommended to me by a friend. I had walked about 9 miles to the zoo and all around so I was hungry. I ended up here and was not disappointed. I ordered the zucchini blossoms, garlic bread and the fettuccine with mushrooms in cream sauce. It was all very good. I enjoyed the food so much that before leaving I ordered a pizza to take with me to eat for dinner, also delicious! The house white was very good and with all that and a big bottle of still water it was 25€ (sept 2018 prices). My server was so kind in helping me and offered great suggestions. There are other things on the menu I would like to try so I will definitely be back next time I'm in Rome.

Yelp
Yes... the price is amazing (like 60% of what it normally is)... but the food here is mediocre at best... and by Italian food standards its pretty awful. The pizza was overly watery beyond and just didn't even that much good flavor. We ordered 4 different pizzas including the Margarita and Montecarlo. It is as if they just mosh pitted random stuff together and sold it as a tourist trap wares. It might be okay if this is your first pizza taste in Rome... BUT go to a few much better places and you'll realize this the bottom of the barrel. Oh and all my 3 other travel buddies labeled this place as the "Awful pizza place" on their notes.

Yelp
Great pizza and great service. Thank you Morrissey! The pizza was absolutely fantastic. Thin, crispy, and wonderfully flavorful. I couldn't believe how quickly the pizza was served to our table. It was if they had read my mind like Morrissey has read my mind since my adolescent years. Many thanks to the owner and the owner's son for the backstage tour

Yelp
On our back back from the Vatican City, i looked at my saved map and noticed, our bus just stopped in front of this pizza place that my native Rome co-worker had recommended. So hopped off the bus, it's pizza time! We ordered the Montecarlo and prosciutto pizza, both were very good and delicious. This place is pretty cheap too. Definitely one of the best pizza in the city...

Yelp
Just remember to bring cash! Excellent service, nice atmosphere and good food. Made it during the early afternoon with an old number group. The staff moving in and our of the place bringing in supplies quickly sat us. The pizza and pasta were prepared fresh, with fresh ingredients. Pizza was good with light sauce and tasty ingredients.
google avatar

Priscilla G.

Yelp
Pizza was hand tossed. It was a great pizza thin and crispy. I got the sausage mushroom and onions, wish they had spinach style pizza but overall good!!
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
This place was really good although quite crowded.. Our guide told us this was the best Pizza in the area and I think he was right. Prices were good too.
google avatar

Terry B.

Yelp
Excellent pizza with a casual atmosphere. The pizza was super thin and crispy. We walked by on our first night in rome around 10pm and saw that it was jammed with locals. Ate here the next day and found out why--really good pizza! My family says it's the best pizza in Rome.
google avatar

Nisht G.

Yelp
I will be dreaming about the pizza at La Montecarlo! The crust is so flaky and the toppings are extremely flavorful. The appetizer sampler is a bit overwhelming and a lot of fried foods, so maybe just get two appetizers instead. I recommend the arancini balls and the zuchinni blossoms. The service is really nice and quick. This isn't a frilly place, but its family friendly and very delicious. Highly recommend for pizza in Rome!
google avatar

Umar G.

Yelp
Brilliant pizza al a Roma! Stopped by this place on the recommendation of our Airbnb host . The place gets busy on warm evenings. We were seated right away at an outside table . The pizza combinations are endless, and they have the these deep fried appetizers that consist of cheese filled zucchini flowers, deep fried olives and deep fried rice balls. So we ordered an appetizer plate for two that consisted of the former , and then two kinds of pizza ; one a margherita and the other with prosciutto. Both were excellent . The crust is thinner than neapolitan but way way better in my opinion. The pizza sauce was fantastic. It wasnt sweet at all like American pizza sauce but deep, savory and unctuous. It was very delicious . The pizza isn't covered in cheese but just enough to keep the ingredients together . Overall the combo and ratio of ingredients worked. Other patrons were really friendly, and the servers were no nonsense and may seem abrupt by American service standards but we never thought of them as rude . This place is a must stop if you wish to try Roman pizza in an authentic Roman setting that the locals favor .

M C.

Yelp
Pizza decent but by now I have tried several locations pizza is not for Rome and Rome is not for pizza!!! Pasta gnocchi was very good
google avatar

Kristina R.

Yelp
Good value, the service is friendly but too casual and awkward: they will probably drop the plate while swinging by even if you haven't finished your starter, you ll have to choose ur cutlery n get a napkin from what they dumped on your table, also pour yourself the wine n even open your bottle of water...Right.., I guess that's how things work. My partners pizza apparently was amazing and my gnocchi weren't up to par. The bruschetta was a bit weird in my humble opinion...sliced tomato on bread. Although when looked around the food looked great on neighbours tables. All in all it was ok and so far the least expensive dinner we had.
google avatar

Yelper O.

Yelp
Cash only Food is mediocre Pasta was not fresh at all Pizza was okay Service doesn't exist

Gina K.

Yelp
Very disappointing. We ordered three different pizzas which were all bland and toppings were unevenly distributed . So unevenly distributed that one slice only had maybe all ingredients from menu. Unappetizing to look at and tasteless. Service was terrible. Would never recommend this restaurant. If this is Roman pizza, what a major disappointment!

Yelp
... No ... il caffè no... quello non é previsto... va liberato il tavolo per un altro gruppo!!!!
google avatar

Al P.

Yelp
One of the best pizzas I've tried in Rome. We ordered 4 pizzas for 4 people since we were told it's individual size, but 1 is good enough for 2 people. However, we enjoyed it, it's thin, full of sauce and cheese and with a good service which is not easy to find in Italy. Go early since most tables are outside; you will have to share a long table with others but this is a taste of the italian culture.

Kanika S.

Yelp
Definitely worth a visit for the pizza. However the place is insanely busy and feels very hectic. Still worth it - best pizza in italy
google avatar

Edgar L.

Yelp
excellent classic italian pizza. Doesn't get more authentic than this!

Frank H.

Yelp
One of our go to resto in Rome. You know it's very good since frequented by locals. The price is very reasonable and you cant go wrong with anything on the menu!
google avatar

Rachel A.

Yelp
Very terrible service. After waiting for 15 minutes the server refused to serve us because we wanted a couple of appetizers and a bottle of wine. He said it wasn't a bar and if we didn't order more food we had to leave. It was so embarrassing and insanely rude- the restaurant wasn't even near full.
google avatar

Qype User (thenus…)

Yelp
By far, my best place for a pizza in Roma. I don't know how many times I've been to Motecarlo and never been disappointed. Unbeaten quality/price. You just got to know when to get there to avoid the waiting line that is a credit to how much people like this place. Pizza is simply great. Roman style, so expect only super thin crust prepared in 3 min. Add a beer and you're set for less than 6 euros (that was back in 2006 so might be a bit more now). I just love being there, very much a local spot not overly crowded by tourists despite being right between piazza navona and campo di fiori... My only regret: I can't get one everyday!
google avatar

Andi P.

Yelp
Terrible service. Some of the servers got in an argument right next to our table. The pizza was terrible.
google avatar

Hugues B.

Yelp
A must see in Rome for the pizzas and the pasta. Very famous for romans often crowded by the local.

Popescu A.

Yelp
A must see if you're looking for the worst pizza. I can't imagine that the pasta is good. And not only the food is bad.
google avatar

wanda M.

Yelp
The service was good. The wine was good and cheap. But the food was just okay. We had a pizza and the crust was burnt just a little bit with black. But I would rather have a crispy pizza than a soggy pizza. Not enough toppings and not enough sauce.

Maureen M.

Yelp
Total fail in every way. Ordered one Burini salad and one Monte Carlo pizza --ended up with one mix green salad which despite two inquiries they swore was a Burini salad and 2 pizzas. They refused to take back the extra pizza. Both pizzas were the same except one had 4 sad lonely olives and a strip of red pepper sitting on top. The one we ordered was supposed to be a Monte Carlo. Service was rude and horrible would never recommend it or go there again.

Wei L.

Yelp
Best pizza and pasta of my recent trip to Italy! This is one of the restaurant recommended by my travel guide book: Rome Day by Day. I trust this guide because I've been using the same series for years, and among all the recommendations of restaurant, there are always restaurants that aren't in the high traffic tourist area and loved by locals. The recommendations usually live up my expectation. This restaurant is one of them. It's also recommended by the French tourist guide book Le Guide de Routard for 14 years. The restaurant is in a small street not far from Piazza Navona. The decor of the restaurant was simple: white wall with many photos of people (celebrities?). The ceiling has Renaissance arches shape. Although the restaurant wasn't full (it might be a bit too early for the locals), the waiters were bit slow. We ordered Fried Mozzarella, Mixed Salads, Parma Prosciutto Pizza and Wild Mushroom Fettuccini. The shell of Fried Mozzarella was a bit too hard. The pizza was divine: thin and non-greasy crust, delicious Parm prosciutto. The best of all is the cheese used for the pizza. I couldn't tell what cheese was, but it was delicious. Its aroma enhanced the taste of the pizza. The Fettuccini's cream sauce with wild mushrooms made it the best pasta on my book. There was so much food and we didn't have room for dessert. During our lunch, many locals came for lunch. All of us were very happy with our meal.
google avatar

Flavio P.

Yelp
Decent food, but nothing special. Arrogant and unpolite personnel. With so many good places in Rome, stay away from this overcrowded and overestimated venue, you won't regret going elsewhere.
google avatar

Shannon G.

Yelp
I enjoy a crispy thin crust pizza, but I didn't think this was very good. Lots of bubbles in the dough, and way too charred on the bottom and edges as well. It's not like you're going for the atmosphere either, so there have to be much better options out there.
google avatar

Cuppy E.

Yelp
After eating here and a few other places in Italy, I can now say with certainty that New York City has the best pizza in the world. I'm not biased because I'm a born and raised New Yorker. I came to the Old Country with an open mind and mouth and I was shocked at how awful the pizza tasted. The cheese was good and that was it. The dough and the taste of the crust was bad. I even met a woman who was born and bred in Italy and have had pizza in almost every part of Italy and she claimed and I quote "New York pizza is better." There has been much debate about who has the best pizza. It's not Italy. It's not Old Forge. And it's definitely not Chicago LOL It's New York. Brooklyn stand up!

Seth H.

Yelp
Wouldn't call it service with a smile but it was quick and efficient. Pizza and pasta were solid and a family of four can get out of there for around 50 Euro which after two weeks in Italy feels like a great deal.
