La Mulata

"Named after a species of crab, La Mulata features a bar that focuses mainly on “raciones”, an impressive fish and seafood display, and a live lobster tank just beneath it. The à la carte, which specialises in seafood, is complemented by an excellent selection of savoury rice dishes." - Michelin Inspector

Me, a person who never eat cold plates, fell in love with cold plates after I ate in this restaurant. Though the Spanish seafood rice was just so so, the cold plates were absolutely blowed my mind! The oysters were sweet and tender. I don’t know how to express how tasty they were. Just ordered it, you won’t regret! And the cold prawns starter were also paradise dishes.

Best restaurant I had in Santander. Top quality food. Very fresh seafood grilled properly so outside is crispy but inside is tender. The restaurant is on Michelin list almost every year. Top quality service. Staff are friendly and try to speak English with us. Staff also took out fish bone for you. One minor suggestion that you can ask customer if they want waiter to take out fishbone. I am from Asia and actually don’t mind doing it myself and save some extra waiting time, so I can really taste the seafood right off the oven. Still best restaurant in town. Ideally call them to make reservation. Otherwise be there very early and try your luck.

Went for dinner and we had barnacles to start and scrambled egg with spider crab and prawns. The food was wonderful. For mains we had a sole (for two) that came with potatoes onions and peppers, simple and really good. We finished with some cheese and a glass of red wine followed by a complimentary shot of local digestive.

Coming from Edinburgh where the food is great, this was superb. The service was 1st class and food was a revelation. We had the prawns with spinach (marscapone and tomato) & the clam and risotto with a great inexpensive local white wine. Just a great food experience. I note other reviewers commented on the surly waiter who banged down the food - we loved this guy, he was busy, efficient and as we didn't have the language, we used an app to explain how good it all was. I loved him, passionate about the food, serving and the service.

What can I say if I'm almost out of words after this meal?... we will repeat for sure on our next visit to Santander. We started with a "tiradito", then king prawns grated with spinach, and the main course was a grilled "machote" (red snapper). All accompanied with an Albariño Martin Codax. We didn't have enough stomach for the dessert, but the cheese cake looked incredible. The attention from the waiter Manuel was superb! He's super kind and professional. We will definitely come back! Thanks a lot!

I visited La Mulata on a Sunday and arrived just before they opened. Within 30 minutes, the restaurant was packed, and there were no tables available. I didn't notice many tourists, so I highly recommend making a reservation or arriving before opening time to secure a spot. The service was excellent and attentive. I enjoyed a cup of coffee, followed by a delightful meal of octopus with potatoes and zamburiñas. The food was absolutely fantastic, and I wish I had the opportunity to try more dishes. The restaurant also impressed me with its cleanliness. Overall, La Mulata offers an outstanding dining experience with delicious food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere.

Yelp
This was a major pleasant surprise for us. We just had great snacks and drinks, but someone said, now is the time for real food. The local reviews were great, so we wandered in search of La Mulata (it's named after a kind of crab). It is quite far from the main waterfront and it is in an unlikely spot inside a collection of stores. When you enter, you think that you are just in a seafood market as there are chairs and the bounty of Santander is right there for you to see. But then you are escorted to the back and there is this wonderful private spot with white table clothes. We had no idea what to expect as this is a truly local spot, there weren't any English menus as far as the eye could see. Still, we were put in the good hands of the place and she rattled off a host of things and we just nodded and said yes. Boy, are we glad that we did. The prices are incredibly reasonable (like the rest of Santander compared with the tourist prices of say San Sebastian), but the quality is incredible. This place prides itself on great fish and plenty of it. We started with a great appetizer of shrimp and then we had some terrific stew that was so rich and wonderful. The best thing was the whole seabass though. We each had a portion and they were delicious and flavorful. So if you are in Santander and have an appetite this is the perfect place.

Yelp
You haven't lived until you've dined at La Mulata Best dinner of our entire trip to Spain and Portugal cost line.. The seafood is all on display. We loved the paella and the lobster rice, incredible. Each order for two could have served four! Sea bass came as a whole fish. Enjoyed the scallops appetizer cooked in the half shell - much different than in the states where are only eat the soft white portion.

Yelp
¡Altamente recomendado!"

Yelp
Fantastic! Known for its seafood, We had a delicious meal here. A lovely wine from Galicia. Be sure to have the cheese cake for dessert.

Yelp
Had dinner here and the service was personable and professional. Waiter explained specials and answered questions. Both the hake and sea bass were excellent. Ordered the sea barnacles/ percebres. They were interesting and better than the fried seafood appetizers. We understood they would be expensive. Wine was very reasonable and good. White tablecloths. A thumbs up!

Yelp
Awesome dinner with reasonable prices. We loved the meal and amazing service. For 2 it was 50 euros (great hake fish, potatoes, bread, sangria). Would definitely recommend since the other restaurants on the street are packed. Great seating, classy, amazing food - couldn't be happier. Check out if you get the chance! Short walk from downtown!
