The 24 Best Restaurants in Tulum, Mexico | Eater

"This spot is named after a song written by Cuban composer Guillermo Rodríguez Fiffe that was covered by Mexican rockers Caifanes in 1989, and like the song, this mod Sinaloan cevicheria is a little cumbia, a little rock and roll. Under the shade of salmon-colored umbrellas and a corrugated steel-panel roof, try the Torresona, a show-stopping Sinaloan seafood tower of raw and cooked shrimp, tuna, cooked octopus, and mahi-mahi formed in a ring mold with slices of purple onion, cucumber, and layers of fresh avocado, all bathed in lime juice and salsa negra. A variety of seafood tostadas, fiery aguachiles, and Sinaloan seafood tacos, like a gobernador stuffed with melted Gouda and grilled shrimp, are paired with cold beers and international cocktails such as Old Fashioneds, Aperol spritzes, and espresso martinis." - Bill Esparza

Google
Amazing food and great vibes at La Negra Tomasa! Absolutely delicious! There were four of us, and we ordered almost every dish on the menu — everything was incredible! The prices are very reasonable for the quality and portions. The live music and show made the atmosphere super fun and full of energy. The staff were so friendly and attentive, even though the place was quite busy. We loved it so much that we went back the next day for lunch! Highly recommend if you’re looking for great food, music, and a lively local vibe. 🎶🍽️❤️

Google
Wonderful food! Service was so great the first time we came back for a second time during our stay. Danah and Xavier were very tentative and great servers, definitely recommend. Portions were great, and all the food we tried was delicious. Highly recommend!

Google
Good food and reasonable prices. I had the aguachile with cooked shrimp and spicy sauce. Was very good. The music is a bit too loud, but the service was superb. Very happy and cheerful staff. Kudos to you.

Google
Really great experience here! The seafood is amazing and great prices with such wonderful service. Very casual and our 10 year old loved the coconut shrimp and fries especially!

Google
Michael from Venezuela was an amazing waiter! He provided us with great recommendations, everything was amazing and he was so attentive and I never felt like I had to wait for anything. He made sure our needs were met and was so so kind. Would definitely recommend this place!

Google
The service is efficient and fast, the waiters are very attentive, the portions are large, and the food is fresh and tasty! They also have options other than the usual Mexican dishes. The Pinada is very good. Also cheap price! Nice music!!

Google
This place is amazing. The service is fantastic. The staff is friendly. We were treated to shrimp broth. The food arrived quickly. The chocolates clams are so delicious. The portions are large, the prices are reasonable—it was a great evening, and we'll be back again. Thank you ❤️

Google
The food, vibe, and service was absolutely phenomenal. Amazingly fresh seafood with really great prices. You know a place is good when the locals eat there. Shout out to Jazmine! She was great!!

Yelp
If Ceviche is your jam then this is your place! We came for a late lunch and were told that a Salsa band would be there at 6pm. On a Wednesday night!! But back to the ceviche: we had the big tower Torresona, of ceviche doused in Clamato juice. Raw and cooked shrimp, tuna, avocado and octopus and cukes. The Clamato was a little different. I realize I'm a ceviche purist so next time I'll get the classic. But my date lined it a lot. We also had the Tostada Salmon. Raw salmon with pineapple chunks. Very refreshing. Over a crispy chip (tho it was juice-laden by the end). They have some nice artisanal beers as well. All around a mighty fine place with great service, low key vibe. Come!

Yelp
This restaurant lives up to the hype . Service was exceptional, live music was awesome. The tostadas are absolutely fantastic . We came back a second time . Got the guacamole with grasshoppers. Definitely a great idea. They taste like chicken . La torresona gives you a bit of a show The tostada with tuna and the black sauce was the best plate imo. Cantarito was the best

Yelp
Visited this restaurant with 8 work colleagues on a club trip and we loved it. We took an Uber from our hotel and walked the downtown area of Tulum. It was a beautiful evening and so worth the trip. We loved Le Negra and where it is located. Recommend.

Yelp
What a vibe, what an absolute vibe! Dining in at this restaurant truly made my entire trip! Upon walking in, I was greeted by warm and welcoming customer service and seated promptly. They also made sure that the fans were on, to keep the air flowing as it was a hot day. My waiter (Yisus) was also on point! He was very tentative to all of his tables, making sure that they had what they needed. He did not miss a beat! Yisus was also great with recommending delicious dishes. I ordered the pulpo taco, shrimp aguachile (piña) currd in pineapple, and a salmon tostone. While I waited on the dishes, I snacked on totopes (tortilla chips), with a delicious medley of salsas to choose from (spicy, savory, mild). The food came out in no time! The pulpo taco was nice and juicy and loaded with flavor. The fresh toppings and delicious sauce made it all the more appetizing! The shrimp aguachile was both bold and flavorful. I could taste the pineapple and other flavor elements, fresh lime essence encompassed each bite! I was not able to try the salmon tostada, as I was too full and packed it to go. I am excited to enjoy it later on! The cherry on top was listening to the merengue band play as the evening started. Pure soul and rhythm!!! Cheers to good eats!

Yelp
Great service, great food ! Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. The pulpo taco was my favorite !

Yelp
Very cool spot with delicious food. Looks like an alley between buildings, but has beautiful plants, plenty of shade and a very cool atmosphere. Shrimp ceviche was the only miss; just whole raw shrimp on a plate. The tostados were the way to go; so good. Two tostados is enough for a large meal for one person. Split a few to try more. The mar y Tierra is exactly what it sounds like and I could live off just eating this forever. The La Nuevo was delicious, but the onion rings we ate separately because it wasn't possible to do otherwise. The negrit que enamora stole the show with a ton of fresh tuna and perfectly flavored chili sauce. Delicious!

Yelp
Left the hotel area and ventured in to town and oh my goodness this was the best meal I had in Tulum. And the prices phenomenal! Drinks did not let us down either, well made and less than half the prices near the resort.

Yelp
Writing some reviews on yelp to help these places get the attention they deserve (although part of me selfishly wants to keep these a secret). This place tastes as good as it feels! The vibes are great with its intimate but lively interior courtyard space. Stumbled across this randomly walking on this street upon arrival to MX, so happy this was my first place! First of all, their appetizer chips + fish juice + lime shooter thing is AMAZING. SOOOOO good I can't believe it's not the norm everywhere. Split one of their signature tostadas and ceviche. Oh my god, everything tastes so good and fresh! The ceviche portion was huge. The tostada was such a surprise, it was ahi tuna with a blackberry balsamic glaze, WOW! Service was quick and kind. Can't believe how affordable and amazing it was, we loved it so much we ended up coming back for another meal. This time I tried their version of pina colada - it was fancy and strong! The first time we got to experience some local live entertainment. All in all it's a fun, delicious good time and I'll definitely be returning next time I'm in Tulum! Muchas gracias :)

Yelp
Decent seafood place in town with live music and towers of raw fish. This place is frequented by locals. I am not a big seafood eater but I have tried their vegan tacos. Good bang for your buck and good vibe.
google avatar

Shanell M.

Yelp
Super cute restaurant with yummy food and outdoor seating! We enjoyed the fish and shrimp tacos best. The service was great and there was also a fire show which was so intense yet fun.

Yelp
Loved this restaurant on our trip to Tulum. If you are downtown it's a must visit. Our waitress and waiter were very kind and attentive. The food was all good. The drinks were great. Loved the guava water and the ceviche the most. Great music selection and Tulum vibes.

Jennifer V.

Yelp
Food was delicious and the customer was exceptional. Esta chingon este lugar. Jared and Tana were great waiters!

Yelp
What an incredible experience. The food, ambience, music, and service were all 5 stars. We ended up having dinner here 2 nights in a row to try more of the menu and requested to be sat in Franco's section. Every plate was created with intention and so much flavor. My favorite dish was the "Negrita qué enamora"- a little sweet, a little salty, a little spice. A MUST try at La negra Tomasa. Thanks again Franco!!

Yelp
Went on a Thursday evening and there was live music! There is an abundance of seafood dishes that were fresh and delicious. The biggest surprise was the tostada with berry flavor--just wow! I personally would skip the tostada with salmon and pineapples. There are so many great options on the menu. If you don't eat seafood, I would recommend not coming here though. This was one of the best nights I had in tulum. The vibe, food, and drinks were just out of this world. Don't miss out!
google avatar

Sharilyn T.

Yelp
Bueno, bonito y accesible $. Para ser tulum este lugar tiene buenos precios y la comida es divina. Nos atendió un argentino, excelente servicio.
google avatar

Kimberly T.

Yelp
the La Torresona is really good and worth a try if you dont mind eating raw. That sweet and savoriness of the sauce was perfect! portions are huge too. Had we known though that both our orders were a little similar we wouldve tried something else - we had the La torresona and Classic mixto. Oh well. Space was spacious enough and clean too. Service was also good and communication was not an issue. Glad our hotel front desk recommended the place and we rented a scooter to get here.

Yelp
The place is exotic and has good music, the food was great, the green shrimp aguachile is a gluten free option, it was spicy but delicious, guacamole with chapulines was fun to eat, gf too. as well as the taco gobernador just ask to be made w corn tortilla instead of flour tortilla. They have good service.

Yelp
Was recommended this vibey seafood spot by a resort staff member on our day out in the city. Just steps from the Main Street, this gem is tucked away and an absolute plant lovers paradise! We ordered the ceviche, oysters, quesabirria de marlin and frito de atun tacos. Everything was impeccable and fresh! They also had a great assortment of hot sauces and salsas!

J F.

Yelp
The seafood was fresh and delicious. Tostadas La Roja, La Verde, La Chiquilla, and Negrita Que Enamora are a must! Great service and drinks!!!

Yelp
Group of five and everyone's food order was delicious and fun armed. We especially enjoyed the Mayan fire dancers drummer. Great Tulum dining experience!
google avatar

Audrey R.

Yelp
Food was good but not amazing, fair price (~$35USD for 2 of us) for what it is. The popcorn chicken is DIVINE !!! Definitely a must try if you come here. (:

Emma Y.

Yelp
I went here with a group of 9 during a bachelorette party in Tulum. The food and service was amazing. Our waiter was kind, funny, spoke great english (and Spanish) and was happy to entertain our group! I had the ceviche and micheladas. The view and vibe of the restaurant was awesome. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice dinner out or drinks with a sunset view.
google avatar

Lori R.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Guacamole was freshly made. My favorite was the Pulpo (Octopus) Taco. All the flavors (spices and sauces) complemented each other well. Would I order it again? Most definitely! I thought the Gobber Taco was just okay. Would I order that again, probably not. Tortilla chips were freshly made and delicious. The soup was flavorful, although fishy, yet tasty. Overall, I would come back and try other things and also get more Pulpo Tacos!
google avatar

Alaric D.

Yelp
I had the shrimp barilla tacos which were tasty but had quite a bit of shell in them. Atmosphere was very nice though. Walking distance to the shops.

Jessica J.

Yelp
My friends and I had the best time here when visiting Tulum. It was just good vibes overall. Beautiful space , delicious food, drinks were flowing etc. I couldn't recommend this place more, it was one of the highlights of our trip.

Yelp
Visited Tulum from CA. Got lucky enough to find this gem. Amazing food, drinks and ambiance for reasonable prices. Also right across from Matcha Mama, perfect after dinner dessert.
google avatar

Jennifer G.

Yelp
The food was delicious and very filling! This place is cute and a little off the beaten path. The crowd drew us in and we were glad we stayed and ate! A great option to try some authentic Mexican food.
google avatar

Bo B.

Yelp
Food here was fairly good. Food: Pulpo taco - very good Fried tuna taco - very good Salmon tostada - very good Pina colada - this had a weird garbage taste especially with the metal straws. Would not recommend anything that has to be drunk through these metal straws.
google avatar

sarina d.

Yelp
The food here is amazing and the drinks were strong and tasty! I would ditch going to the bigger places that cost more money for less and come to this place every time! Service and the location itself were All wins for me and my group!
google avatar

Melissa F.

Yelp
Hotel desk recommended we try this when we asked for lunch recommendations. Started with chips and salsa verde & rosa at the table. I had a (frozen) lemonade and the fried tuna with guacamole taco, which was great. My husband had a shrimp taco and an octopus taco. He said the octopus was the best! We also shared papas fritas, and left some unfinished. We were both pleased with the friendly staff and the pretty garden setting with plenty of large fans blowing, which really helped with the heat of the day. A good spot!

Yelp

Yelp
Really delicious and fresh and unique food at a super reasonable price in a pretty and casual location. Great service and the Dj plays ambient music that wasn't too loud.

Madi J.

Yelp
Delicious! The Mar y Tierra was so yummy but HOT. Maybe I'm a baby, but my gosh it was hot. Cool vibes here as well!

Yelp
Delicious food and friendly staff. We stopped here for drinks every day. They have great margaritas for a great price.

Yelp
The PERFECT day-drinking spot. So laidback yet lively. La Negra gives me Cuban/Mexican vibes - it's a small, colorful spot that you just might miss while walking down its street if you couldn't hear all the conversations and feel the vibes emanating from this place. My bf and I stopped by to grab a couple drinks here and their mojitos were fantastic and strong, and the servers so casually warm and helpful. We regret that we couldn't try their food, but it's all the more reason to come back again someday.

Dominic C.

Yelp
The food here was really good. We tried a few different things and all were very enjoyable. The steak/shrimp tostada was amazing. So good we ordered a second. The atmosphere was super chill and the drinks were well made and tasty as well. Definitely worth a stop if looking for a change up from the traditional Mexican street fare that while delicious can be found on every corner

Whitney F.

Yelp
This place was delicious. The food was flavorful and the service was great. I had one of the best pina coladas ever

Sophia H.

Yelp
Truly disappointed with Negra Tomasa. After a long day between cenotes and the beach, I was dying to eat some juicy fish tacos and chose this taco joint after reading some rave yelp and reddit reviews. The tacos did not live up to the hype. The fish in was overly battered, soggy and tasteless. I've found so many food treasures in Tulum but sadly left this restaurant feeling dissatisfied. Ceviche is also mediocre.

Anne S.

Yelp
This was our favorite place in Tulum, we came here almost everyday during our stay. The food is outstandlingly delicious, great modern mexican cuisine, awesome ceviche and tuna tacos! The cocktails are refreshing and the place, with it's cool street arts, invites you to stay. The best about it are the owners, with their passion and warmth, giving it all a personal touch. Highly recommended!
