The best place to get your coffee, pastries empanadas etc. Service is great. Born and raised here and it's always one place i go to. Service is excellent. The community supports each other here. My mom, Rosa, 😉 loved coming here with her friends and I will continue doing that with my friends✈️.

I ordered a vanilla cake for my daughter’s birthday, and it was very disappointing. The bottom was burnt, the cake was dry, not soft, and had a yellowish inside. I asked for it not to be too sweet, but it was very sweet. I spent $100 for a cake for 25 people, and not a single guest liked it. The only decent part was the simple decoration. I wish I could leave zero stars.

We tried bite sizes of a few different types of cakes. All were very dry. My husband got a strawberry tres leches cake slice and it too was VERY dry. I would not recommend this bakery when you have this many selections in the neighborhood.

The Alfajores weren't too sweet and had maintained their structural integrity to be enjoyed. The Queso Empanadas were good too.

I love going here for the migas de jamón y queso and their sandwiches. Today I was there with my two kids, I had grabbed a apple juice from the fridge and put it down on the table to attend my child, since she was making an iced coffee for me, I was going to grab the coffee from her and she asked if I was going to pay for the juice that I grabbed, clearly there was no one at the register and I was waiting for her to make the iced coffee so she can charge me for the juice. I didn’t appreciate her service, it was very poor. Food is always great but maybe next time she can give me the opportunity to pay for an item before assuming I was going to take it for free.

My friends and I went for breakfast. $2.50 for large cup of coffee. However, once the little bit of foam settled got as much as a small cup. One word comes to mind "mezquino, mezquino, mezquino". The pastries where delicious. All of us where very dissapointed we did not get a full cup of coffee, not nice; defraudados por el cafe.

Real Uruguayan bakery. Good place for anybody missing his "back-home food" I only wish they would accept credit cards, cash only should be a long gone

Love this local bakery cafe. Empanadas. Dozens of different baked good and desserts. Breads. Good coffee. Yerba mate. Frozen pastas and empanada tops. Not Colombian. Uruguay owners. Pan Latin American flair.

It's always nice coming here. Their baked goods are on point. In particular I recommend their pan con queso. It's so luscious. Another delicious treat is the empanada. Pick any one, my preference is the chicken or the beef. You'll be pleased.

Quick service, large selection of cakes, cookies and other goods. I stopped in for a quick coffee afternoon pick-me-up and a spinach empanada. Empanada was delicious, but sadly the coffee tasted a bit burned - hence the minus one star. Maybe I should have gotten sugar! Would like to come back and try some of the sweets.. there are many cakes displayed in cases and the overall vibe was nice.

Twice in one year I bought the same products and the same thing happened, in poor condition, I'm sure it didn't pass a city inspection. the place increasingly abandoned and dirty. Totally unpleasant.

Ordered the alfajore de maizena and spinach torta. The alfajore de maizena was a nice treat for walking around. The outer cookie layers had a nice snap, and i believe the inner filling was dulce de leche (a gooey, better tasting caramel flavor). The spinach torta was decent. Flavor on the blander side but it held its shape well and wasn't overcooked. I appreciate that they reheated it for me, since I ate it soon after ordering.

Seemingly every Latin pastry under the sun can be found in the pastry cases here, with cookies, cakes, pasteles, churros, empanadas, and croissants galore stacked on top of each other. I wish I spoke some Spanish because it would've helped me more deftly navigate the dizzying array of options and bustle of the busy space. I had many questions but couldn't really communicate with the Spanish speaking employees behind the counter. I panic ordered an alfajor, an Argentine dulce de leche cookie and an empanada, which I had read they're known for. I sat in their outdoor dining structure and gobbled the empanada down, but found the alfajor too intensely sweet for me to consume in one sitting. I also picked up a black and white cookie, a classic NY confection but was also overwhelmed by the sweetness. The level of sweetness might be more fitting for the average palate than my own, so it's not really a criticism of the bakery. I got the sense that this is a popular bakery for families to order cakes from and I'm glad I finally visited this popular Jackson Heights mainstay for some Latin sweets.

I've been coming to this bakery for 20 years. My commute is 2 hours away. For the holidays, I pick up matambre, and for birthdays, the best dulce de leche cakes, with a side order of alfajores. We wouldn't have it any other way. My recommendation is that you should create your own recipe book. It would be the best seller.

We ordered a large order of dulce de leche churros for a birthday party. I wish they offered their own delivery service for catering outside of grubhub type apps since we live just outside the delivery zone. Nevertheless, it was still worth picking up these churros because my guests were raving about them. The whole tray finished in five minutes so that should tell you how good they were. Looking forward to trying their other treats in the near future.

I drove 1 hour to spend 100 dollars. I bought a bunch of stuff. Empanadas. Sándwiches de miga. Facturas a cheese cake and a flan snd when I got home after driving 1 hour back home I was so excited to eat the food. Everything was old. At least 2 to 3 days old. I couldn't believe it. The lady that served me was a liar cause I asked her if it was fresh she said yes LIES. I was so disappointed. Nothing was edible. I wish I was close by so I can drive back and return all the food. The empanadas made me so sick and I only ate 1. What a robbery. It really hurts to spend 100 dollars on garbage. It's really bothering me how they get away with this. Don't go there. It's not worth it

I've been meaning to try La Nueva and finally had the chance when I drove through 37th Ave early morning to beat highway traffic. Everything in this bakery looked very appetizing. The donuts, churros, pastries, cakes, and sandwiches. I had a chicken cutlet sandwich $6.50, and a few different slices of cakes to go. The sandwich was okay but for $6 and change, it's a big size sandwich. The bread is nice and fresh. Very good bread. The flan here is good. It's very thick and dense. The caramel cake is very sweet and the sponge part of the cake tasted a little dry. The Napoleon is quite big but the flavor is a little different than what I am accustomed to. The cream filling here is a little sweet with a sour finish. I taste a lot of cream cheese in this filling. It's not a bad cake but it wasn't my favorite Napoleon. I've had better. The tres leches cake is good but also extremely sweet. Verdict - inexpensive, good but not great. I wouldn't mind coming back to try something different.

I called six different bakery until La Nueva picked up and said yes to a special birthday cake that I requested for my mother's fifty birthday. The cake was very difficult to make and required a lot of time and patience, but La Nueva stepped up the challenge and really delivered. The price is also reasonable !!! I can not describe how much happiness and surprise my mother, and all of our family and friends responded to the cake. Everyone thought it was a real bag!!! Not only was the cake delicious and exactly how I pictured, the staff was friendly and polite. I spoke to Javier, who was an amazing help!!! He listened, and really took his time to go over the cake and the design with me. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BAKERY and will definitely be back for more cake designs!!!

A Jackson Heights gem. If you're craving some empanadas, and coffee or even a pastry and coffee this is definitely a place you need to come. But come early on the weekends, because you won't get a table to eat. Everyone has the same idea having La Nueva for breakfast.

My coworkers surprised me with a tres leche cake from here. It was hands down the BEST cake! Super moist and creamy with dulce de leche filling.

Great gem that my friend introduced me to.. cash only so come stashed cause the place is full of scrumptious, coffee, bread and pastries. Service is good but fast because they're so popular so if you have questions say that before ordering.

This bakery is good. I love to order slices of cake from them. Always get tres leches. The reason I give this bakery 3 stars is due their custom order cakes. I placed 2 orders with them before. They need a week in advance notice for order. But both times I placed an order our cake they was frozen. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe they were having a hard week and that's why my 1st cake was still frozen. Plus their slices of cakes are so good! The tres leches cake was for around 100 people. But the second cake tres leches cake I ordered was for about 40 people. Smaller cake! Highly disappointed. So I guess they need a week in advance for a cake order so it can possibly defrost in time. I wouldn't order a custom cake anymore from them but will still come for the cake slices since those are not frozen.

Away from the hustle and bustle of Roosevelt Ave, the Uruguayan based La Nueva Bakery has quietly amassed a reputation as one of the most stellar Latin bakeries in Jackson Heights. It's conceivable that every bakery has its specialty, but this popular local spot excels in just about everything they make. Versatility through variety, affordability in price, and excellent customer service makes this place a favorite amongst locals in the hood. It's difficult on where to start honestly. Some folks prefer the savory (empanadas, sandwiches, alfajores, etc.) and many others are all about the sweet (pasteles / cakes, dulce de leche, churros, etc.). The good news is the variety is so vast that there is plenty of selection. The bad news is that it also makes people indecisive and like all good bakeries, things run out at some point in the afternoon. I highly recommend their custom cakes. They make for excellent occasion based treats and the ladies behind the counter are experts in their craft. No design is too crazy and no occasion is too grand. They also have an "already made" selection of cakes that can be tailored with wording afterward. One of my favorite things is their version of the tortilla española, a quiche / pie like concoction filled with eggs, potatoes, cheese, and ham. It is among their most savory items from their deli, in addition to the baked tortas of spinach and cheese are fantastic. They also make a mean batch of empanadas, which are filling, hearty, and perfect on the go. La Nueva has been in operation since 1990, I can only hope they stick around for many more years for the next hungry generation. Viva La Nueva!

i came in to buy breakfast, as i was waiting on line i went to grab my drink from the fridge. as i was walking back to my spot on the line a lady walked in. the worker attended to the lady who just walked in and ignored me. i left my drink and walked out. i'm young but i expect equal respect.

The best cheese and ham croissants! We love this bakery. They've got all the delicious treats down to the empanadas.

After a major downpour, I arrived and walked right in to La Nueva. It had metal chairs and table. The walls were adorned with so many kinds of coffee. Not sure if they were ground or just the raw bean source. After a few seconds, I decided that I wanted to have a hot coffee. It was strong like espresso. I liked it. Plus, the whole place filled with the aroma of delicious espresso. It's a nice feeling. I saw some empanadas and even delicious baked goods. I even saw tons of seating. So I say it's more than likely that I'll be back.

Today I had an awful experience over here today with an order I placed how are you guys gonna give me a cake I didn't even order with you guys like really the audacity then the short guy with a gray "chef" coat baker has the nerve to give me a melted cake with garbage made flowers even a kid in the first grade can whip it better then him with a spatula then comes the writing on it like what kinda sloppy garbage you giving me my granny in her 70's can do better script then that baker the level of customer service is just despicable unprofessional a joke to be honest I just honestly wouldn't even go to preorder cakes for occasions cause they'll make you regret it. If I had the choice to give you no stars zippo I would cause you guys don't even deserve it just a complete hectic joke ! Bunch of doo doo made from the baker.

When Nuncas closed I had to go all the way to Queens to get my medialunas fix. If you can't get to Argentina, La Nueva will supply you with your favorite facturas. Wish they were in Manhattan.

Cash only then they have an atm that only lets you take out no more than 20 dollars at a time so if you have an order more than 20 dollars you need to pay the atm fee twice which is such a rip off . had to cancel part of my order as the atm went out of order when I went to get cash out the second time . Wouldn't go here again

Another great bakery in Jackson Heights. They have a lot of options. It's great for breakfast and lunch. It's a casual place, nothing too fancy. But their food says it all. And that's all I need. There's always people seated and it's nice to take a little break here. They frequently have a guy who's just strumming away playing guitar, and singing, so it adds a nice ambiance. They have a lot of different cakes, tiny ones as well as big ones that would be very suitable for a birthday or other special occasion. They speak English as well as Spanish. Currently rated B for best! :-) It won't deter me at all. I think B is acceptable. A is not necessary. I get the beef empanadas every time I come here. They consist of ground beef, onions, and olives. The fried beef empanada also has some raisins, so it's a little sweet, but it's a rather nice addition. The baked version doesn't have raisins. They can warm them up for you. Make sure you ask them to do that if they don't ask you! If you're in Jackson Heights you'd be missing out if you didn't come in here for empanadas, Pan de Bono, and the churro filled with caramel (dulce de leche).

Very good bakery ! Plenty of dulce de leche options ..my husband is addicted to the churros with dulce de leche. I love the little croissants with dulce de leche and powdered sugar on top. Also the guabana in a pastry and glazed with sugar. Definitely a place to check out - a must !

This bakery used to be so good before. Recently I been going and I been getting old bread I'm not sure if it's because the days I go. My last visit was to buy a cake for my boss birthday. Looked fresh and delicious but as soon as we cut it the cake was FROZEN!!! no joke the cake was half frozen. Maybe they freeze the cake and in the morning they decorate it and let it sit to defrost in the fridge. We couldn't eat it since it was very hard.

We had a socially distanced party this afternoon and a friend brought empanadas from La Nueva Bakery - wow! They were so good. The beef and jalapeño were so incredible as well as the spinach. I brought some home for my husband, but wound up eating them...they were that good!

I've been here several times, Im not a fan of the caramel pastries, it's way too sweet for me. We like the empanadas, it's totally different from the colombian bakeries. I prefer these, it just tastes a lil healthier... with better ingredients? Once I bought a carrot cake for my mom and I don't think she liked it, I think it was too rich and sweet for her. We like lighter desserts. I usually get a simple bread pudding or a small pastry that's lightly filled with guava, while L gets flan, tres leches, etc.. I literally need to stop him from ordering a ton of stuff. The line is always really long. Cash only is really annoying as well.

Delicious coffee, fantastic empanadas and friendly service. Tons of room to sit down and enjoy a plethora of desserts. They also have great looking sandwiches and other savory treats. I would certainly come here to grab a cake for a party.

Ok so I haven't tried anything I don't like and I've only visited once lol But I can't wait to go back ! So many desserts to choose from it was hard for a foodie like myself just to choose a few. I had there got chocolate which wasn't overwhelming sweet. I've had there Colombian coffee. They steam the milk which I love bc some bakeries usually don't and I'm a sucker for milk foam haha I've had the chicken,beef and ham/cheese empanadas which are baked pockets of goodness. I highly recommend trying any or all of the empanadas. For dessert I have the alfajores which were soooooo good. I had the one covered in powder sugar and their more traditional one. The former taste like cake and the later has a crumbly cookie and is less sweet. I really wanted to try their tres leches but I sure will next time.

Put this on your MUST list, of places to visit. I saw it on one of those TV cooking channels a while back, and decided to try it, as I just happened to be passing by. I got a few each of chicken, beef, and spinach empanadas, and a bunch of their hot sauce on the side. Couldn't leave without grabbing some of their dulce de leche filled pastries and sandwich cookies, too. I strapped them to the back of my motorcycle and roared home, in anxious anticipation of devouring all this goodness with my awaiting girlfriend. Let me tell you... It was delicious. Probably the best I ever had. The hot sauce was so uniquely amazing, but not too hot. Words just can't describe. Bottom line.. Just go there.

This place is always fun to visit. Always seems pretty busy but the line moves fast as you go by the cases with the beautiful cakes and goodies. I stop by here to pick up pan con queso. Nice big fresh loaves with a layer of white cheese in the bottom. I always order it whole and slice it at home as needed. This bread is soft and fragrant on the inside with a nice crust and stays fresh wrapped in plastic for days. It's great with coffee and I bet it makes great French toast. Check it out.

This place is pretty good. I found the pan con queso to be a bit too salty, and a bit to tart/ sour bread for my liking. However, it was still pretty fresh and moist. I'll be back to try some other baked goods.

Go to spot for Ruscones or Pan Dulces - I got 5 for $30. I thought it was a great price, especially since they were so big. Very friendly staff!

Delicious empanadas! I got the jalapeno and beef one, along with some hot sauce. It was great! Meat was quite flavorful and I love the hot sauce. Empanada was warm and pretty soft, though I wish it were crunchy outside. There's plenty of seating inside but it's not the cleanest feeling. Lots and lots of baked goods though! And cheap, $2 per (big) empanada!

I got 20 empanadas for my class here (shrimp, cheese, and spinach), and they were pretty good. They were having some machine problem and were all cash when I was there, so I had to go get money from their handy door-side ATM machine to pay. Friendly service and I'd like to go back to try some other items.

The person working there was annoyed because I asked for hot sauce for the empanadas. Her reply was that she was really busy and did not have time to make it.

Today I stopped by this bakery, which I always go when in the area, for my big surprise a piece of Any Cake is $5.50 !!!! Yes... I told the assistant this was "too High cost", she said "everyone says the same thing". You know what....I will NOT come back. I can't see how they will keep the business open.

I Love Love Love this place. The coffee here was perfect. I tried the croissant with ham and cheese with butter. Delicious. The place was cozy and service friendly

The staff here found me remarkably amusing...to my credit, it was 7:30am and I was post-red eye & still on West Coast time & my Spanish is rusty to say the least. That said, this may have been due to my likely-botched pronunciation of their more popular treat...I feared it sounded like I accused her of selling herself for letters but maybe alpha-whore was phonetically correct since she grinned like I was a small toddler to speak. At first glance through the displays, the MO of this joint appears to be 'make top-notch dulce de leche and pipe it into every imaginable orifice of their well-constructed Uruguayan pastries'. Dropped $5.25 for a trio of formidable dulce-involved items (well, I gave $6 cash and received an extremely puzzled look - still intrigued by this). That said, the alfajore was phenomenal (a 7), but the cone was overwhelmingly coconutty.

~ Review is for the alfajores ~ Caveat: Some people might not like these cookies as they are quite sweet from a thick layer of caramel. But the fat kid in me is not one of those people . The alfajores are colossal and easily shareable (easy in terms of size, not willpower). They consist of a pair of crumbly shortbread like cookies sandwiching a thick layer of creamy dulce de leche. The two main alfajores are the original with a light coating of coconut flakes on the sides and the chocolate covered. I might give the chocolate covered the slight edge because the smooth chocolate coating keeps the crumbly cookie intact and holds the entire sandwich together nicely. These are excellent cookies in my opinion, You won't find anything comparable the city. Maybe if I'm back here I'll try the other cheap pastries and the beef empanadas everyone raves about.

Friendly staff, all empanadas were packed generously - pollo, spinach, and ham and cheese. Girlfriend and I were big fans. Didn't fall victim to being too salty. Clean, cakes were colorful, large selection of drinks. Cheap, fast. Can't complain!

As a former Jackson Heights resident, I used to go to this bakery all the time. They have delicious empanadas. Their cheese empanadas are out of this world. Their other pastries and breads are also great. I went back to La Nueva 15 years later, and they are still great and exactly as it was before. I love this place! The owner and his family also have Armenian roots, which is another plus! ;) I can't wait to go back to this place again. Cheers!

Omg! This place brings me back home!! The best Uruguayan pastries in the US. They are literally from God!!! I love the margaritas and the sandwiches olimpicos! The service is very good, the ladies in the front are very sweet and patient! Every time I'm in New York, I MUST go there!

Fantastic bakery/Cafe. I have purchased here as a child, teen and woman. Amazing ingredients sweet staff and a feeling of nostalgia.
