Ahhh Salvadoran delicacies! Everytime my mom & I go to eat some pupusas at Atlacatl, we always come here for pan dulce.
I can see that many people have tried the budin. Maybe that's something I should try since I haven't yet. But for now, I'll go with the other pan dulces that I know.
My mom likes Semita Macho, which is the thick semita. It's interesting because sometimes they don't put as much pinapple filling/dulce as you would like as and sometimes it's too much. I prefer the flat Semita. You have a pineapple filling between two flat pieces of bread. It's yummy! Can't go wrong with that and a glass of milk..
The next thing I love is salpores de almidn, I don't even know how to explain it. But these little semi balls of flour/butter melt in your mouth. I love them. The Polvoron from Goldilocks has a similar notion to this for anyone who has tried it.. Sorta..
I once tried milhojas which I for some reason feel i compare to Napoleons (the french pastry). Anyway, the filling I felt was more caramely/sticky..as opposed to creamy...and the layers of puff pastry seemed to be a bit burnt/kind of dry as opposed to melting in your mouth. Anyway, i think I'd rather have the milhojas from Mister Donut than here..
We also like that the Panaderia sells frozen goods such as jocotes, lorocco & nance. They also sell queso fresco which is yummy sprinkled on top of a bowl of rice and beans. I think they also sell Queso Petacones which is an orangy looking cheese in a block. Also delish as well on top of a bowl of rice and beans.
I can probably go on and on..
They also have music and traditional crafts from El Salvador.
If you go towards the end of the year, literally in December, they give away calendars of El Salvador with pictures of touristic places of the country.
Overall, this place is pretty darn good..and cheap.. which is always well received. :)
