"La Pallaresa is a great place to go for breakfast or an afternoon snack, or churros with “suizo” (melted chocolate with whipped cream) on a quiet weekend morning. It’s in the old Gothic Quarter around the corner from Plaça del Pi, a very cute square where you can sit down and read the newspaper. There are painters showing their work on Sundays, similar to Paris’ Place du Tertre in Montmartre. Photo: Chris Oakley"

THE quintessential churro cafe. Even locals go on Sunday afternoons for churros and chocolate.

La Pallaresa is a classic Barcelona café that’s been around since 1947, and it really shows in the atmosphere. If you’re visiting Barcelona, this is a great place to try the real Spanish-style hot chocolate, it’s much thicker, richer, and more intense than what we usually have. Their chocolate a la taza feels like warm melted chocolate, perfect with churros or melindros. Simple, comforting, and delicious. The place can get busy, but the service is fast, plus the lady at the counter is very friendly, which makes the experience even nicer. A cozy, nostalgic spot that gives you a true taste of Barcelona’s dessert culture. Definitely worth a stop!

Super cool old school looking Pastellaria/Xocolateria. Chocolate is dark and rich but the pastries where honestly a bit underwhelming. the churros is definitely the hot tip. The ensaimaida was pretty dry and flavourless. The service however was excellent. Worth the visit just for the decor and service if nothing else. Also one of the only cafes in the old quarter with any authentic character these days!

One of a kind for those not familiar with this dark chocolate in a cup found in Catalonia. Our friends from Spain introduced us to this shop that is included on many local chocolate tours in Barcelona.

Ordered churros, SMALL chocolate and small coffee with milk. I was charged for chocolate I didn’t order. The same person took my order, served them and charged me, so I don’t think this was a mistake. Should check the bill carefully before you tap your card.

As with any popular restaurant in Barcelona, I found this place on TikTok. There was a bit of a wait, but it wasn’t too long, which was nice. Ordered their popular churros and dark chocolate, and it was a little underwhelming. The dark chocolate was good, but the churros were just okay, making the entire dish average…. A solid 5/10. Because there are people waiting outside to get it, the experience feels a little rushed. Kind of like… okay, are you almost done, because there are 10 more people waiting outside to get in. Our waiter was really nice though, which was probably the only thing that made this worthwhile.

We saw this place multiple times on social media and decided to try it ourselves. We made the right decision, as the churros were extremely tasty. The place is quite small, and at the time we were there it was completely packed. We tried the hot chocolate too and it was great (dark chocolate most probably). The place was very well maintained, neat and clean. The staff is kind and very busy at all times. 100% recommended.

A must try. The Churros were perfect, hot, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, not greasy and not too sweet. Churros without eggs were the brownie point. The hot chocolate dip lacked a little sugar, but rest was all good

Really disappointing. The churros barely had any crisp, they were probably sitting out for a while. As for the chocolate, it might have looked really thick but it tasted like water. It seemed like a popular place with locals so we wonder if they watered down our chocolates because we’re tourists, hopefully not. The service is also quite poor, the waiters rush you even when it’s not busy. I spoke Spanish to them and he always replied in English. Wouldn’t recommend this place unfortunately
