Is the food bad? No, it's decent.
Is the price bad? Absolutely. It's zero justification for a French bakery/pastry shop in Larchmont. The prices don't correlate to the "living standard" here. (And no, you can't compare Paris and NY they're completely different.)
In Paris, even for the most expensive baguettes, you pay around €3. Here, their baguette costs a staggering $5--and it's subpar (dont get me started on the other products). A flat baguette that leaves you wondering if they even imported the ingredients to justify that price.
I could understand if they imported ingredients, which might explain higher prices, but that does not feel like it. I'd give it a generous 5/10.
The box of cakes (typical French brands) is even worse: 2-3 times more expensive than what you'd pay in Europe or France for something similar.
The sandwiches? You could make better at home with superior quality for a fraction of the price. Small, flat, no flavor. 4/10 at best.
That said, the pastry side is good. But even there, $9.50 for an egg and croissant combo? Reallyyyyyy bro ?!!!
So, my question: besides imported products, rent, and normal operating costs, what justifies these prices in Larchmont? Location? Quality? I don't think so.
If you're desperate for French products, sure, go for it. I didn't love it, i didn't enjoy, but I'll be fair: they do have solid pastry options. Still, prices are absurd. Even if prices aren't a factor, i will still avoid.
An apple tart is $36, and you have to order 2-3 days in advance. I do the same at home, better even, for $10, and it's twice as big.
I want to love it, but I can't. One more thing: just because my experience was disappointing doesn't mean I won't be fair. Maximum rating? 5/10--and that's generous. Today, you can get close-to-French quality elsewhere for far less.
A new grocery store that makes simple but good quality pastries (croissants, pain au chocolat) around 500% cheaper.
And, as if it weren't enough, they close at 2 pm.
It's about time people start being respected for the prices they pay. Sure, normal expenses exist, sure prices can be higher, but this? This isn't reasonable.
