The La Parilla Yucatán Mexican Food restaurant is a hidden Mexican food gem located in Ventura by the college. We went for a quick breakfast and we were so happy we went there. The food is very tasty with an excellent salsa and fresh crunchy chips. The food was excellent and reasonably price. Our server did an exceptional job, he was extremely attentive and friendly. The menu had many interesting traditional Mexican dishes and we definitely be back to explore these. La Parilla is an excellent Mexican food option in Ventura! We will be back for happy hour very soon!

Came back from Cancun and loved their signature dish "cochinita pipil". Found out that La Parrilla restaurant specializes in Yucatan food, so we had to stop by and try it out. And when I tell you their cochinia pipil took us back to Cancun. The flavor, the meat, the black beans, and their white rice with vegetables were right on point. We will definitely stop by soon.

Unfortunately, only 3 stars. The food I was able to eat was excellent worth 5 stars. However, they lost stars for not being able to get my order correct. I ordered chicken flautas and the grilled salmon plate. They didn't get it wrong once, but TWICE. I ordered the salmon with white rice and grilled veggies. I usually check my food in the car when ordering to go. So I did and noticed they gave me black beans instead of my grilled veggies. So I go back inside the restaurant. I had a polite exchange with workers and they agreed to take the black beans away and exchange them for my ordered grilled veggies. No problem. I get to my car and now they gave me grilled veggies, sure, but they took my white rice away and still gave me the black beans. Not knocking those who like black beans, but I can't stand them. Not trusting them to get it right a third time. I gave up. I lost money, because I didn't get the food I paid for.

The best thing I had was the chips and salsa. Food was dry and under seasoned, Michelada was not that great either.

This was our first time trying this restaurant and everything was delicious! We will definitely be going back to try new dishes. The desserts were all great!

Google
Bomb food, great service and they had the game on to enjoy with our great meal!

Google
The food is good and comes super fast. This makes for a great lunch spot when you want something great to eat on a time limit. The prices are also very reasonable.

Google
A great local neighborhood Yucatan Restaurant. Flavors were excellent. Prices were quite good. You can tell a good restaurant when it is tucked away yet still full of customers. We will be back.

Yelp
If you are looking for an awesome Monday Happy Hour spot, look no further than La Parrilla in Ventura! My friends and I had a blast here enjoying tasty happy hour appetizers, classic dishes, some strong margaritas and laid back vibes. Monday is all day happy hour so if you are looking for big portions at a reasonable price, the start of the week is when to come. La Parrilla restaurant has been open since 2013 and is known for their Yucatán style dishes. The interior is super cozy and comfortable. We sat at a booth that comfortably sat the four of us and service was impeccable the entire time. Chris is the man by the way, bringing us awesome vibes, suggestions and many check ins throughout our meal. Honestly the staff here were all so lovely and attentive. The nicest people work here and service was definitely 5 stars. That alone will keep me coming back. Great happy hour beers and margaritas. Us girlies indulged in some margaritas on the rocks and they were bomb. I opted for a classic lime marg with a sugar rim and it was super refreshing and the right amount of sweetness. The best perk though for happy hour prices these margaritas are STRONG in the best way. My other friend said that her Mango marg was the best one she's ever had (she's had two in her lifetime but hey we'll take it lmao). We had a lot of fun sampling the various appetizers on the HH menu and our table agreed that our favorites were the Fried Calamari Tacos and fried flautas. Yes, they have seafood options on HH which is a total deal. Such a big menu here, there's so much more that we need to try and honestly can't wait to come back to support this local business. Good vibes from start to finish and the perfect way to end your day - Margaritas & Apps.

Yelp
Talk about a hidden gem! La Parilla was in an assuming parking lot, and I couldn't believe what was hiding in plain sight! The happy hour is a must when catching up with friends, the margaritas were huge, the beer glass full, and the happy hour chicken tornadoes and fried calamari tacos are so good with the chipotle sauce, and everything being so large for the price Definitely going to be back to keep supporting a great local place, shoutout to Chris and the rest of the team for being so nice and gracious!

Yelp
So here on a whim, always looking for that great Mexican place. It's in a strip mall, but do not be discouraged. It's a super cute layout. Multiple beers on tap and awesome wine based cocktails. So to the service, wonderful. Maria was a delight. Great recommendations and checked on us regularly. The food was wonderful. The house salsa with the warm chips was delicious. Also provided a house Habanero sauce for that extra kick! I had the Chili Relleno omelette, it was bomb. My wife's Enchilada Taco combo plate was equally as good. The beans are phenomenal. Do not miss this hidden gem.

Yelp
La Parrilla is hands down one of the best spots in Ventura for authentic Mexican food. The cochinita pibil and pozole are full of flavor, and the portions are generous. Friendly service and great prices make this place my go-to favorite.

Yelp
In my continued search for the best breakfast burrito, I tried this place. I ordered over the phone and it was hot and ready when I arrived. I appreciated the generous salsa and awesome bag of chips. Ham breakfast burrito - really good. The tortilla is tasty, different from others. I only wish it was a tad bit bigger. Birria burrito - very good as well, however the problem with this one is, it gets very soggy if you don't eat it right away. Overall, their burritos land in my top 3/4! I'll be back!
google avatar

Natalia T.

Yelp
We ordered to go through their website. The food was hot and fresh, ready when it said it would be. Staff was friendly at pickup. The burritos weren't just filled with beans and rice but had a decent amount of meat. The burritos were also decently sized, large enough to have some for tomorrows lunch.

Yelp
The chicken mole enchiladas were fantastic! Every bite was a delight. Our son loved the Zarape as well. Everyone was pleasant and prompt. It's a regular for us.
google avatar

Yelp
Food is delicious, especially the cochinita pibil, our server was great. We will definitely be back here!

Yelp
My husband and I love this place. Food is always good- very authentic Mexican food. My husband always says "this is the way my mom used to cook!" His favorite: the chili verde plate with their excellent homemade tortillas. I enjoy the shredded chicken tacos! And topping off our experience is our AMAZING server Chris- extremely kind, always with a smile, knows our order perfectly- we look forward to the food and seeing Chris! Thank you La Padilla!

Yelp
We came in 15 minutes after they had closed and the kitchen still cooked for us (thank you and sorry!!). I got the enchiladas with the green sauce and my boyfriend got the Carne asada tacos. Both were incredible and they gave us chips and salsa while we waited, which were also really good. To me salsa, rice, and beans are extremely important to get right and they definitely did. We will definitely be coming back here.

Kathryn R.

Yelp
A RESTAURANT WITH NO MIDDLE GROUND. I recently went to a party that La Parrilla catered. The food was so good that a few days later I went there for dinner with a friend and it was the best food with cheap and delicious margaritas, i was on a roll and went to lunch there and the food was some of the worst ever. Chips were hot but stale, black beans were barely heated, the chili relleno was a tough chili wrapped in a soggy tortilla with no cheese, and the chicken taco was a few pieces of dry chicken thrown together with a little cheese and onions. I've been to plenty of just okay Mexican restaurants. This isn't that. This restaurant swings from great to bad. I'm left not knowing whether to go there again.

Yelp
We arrived at about 7:00 PM on Saturday evening. We were surprised to see that the place was practically empty. Way different than past busy vibe. No problem getting a table, but we had to wait for a while, and when the waitress finally got to us she informed us that they had no salsa. At first we were in shock. She said they ran out earlier and they told the chefs to make more, but they for whatever reason hadn't made any. We asked if maybe we can have some of their Pico de Gallo as a substitute. The waitress said she had to ask the manager. She came back and said the manager told her to bring us out this watery tomato sauce that hat virtually no taste and then she said that she could only bring the Pico de Gallo to us if we were going to pay full price for it. It wasn't the payment that was an issue, as we had no idea what the payment would be, but more the whole scenario and waitresses aloof attitude that made us get up and walk out of the place. The sad part is, we had been here many times before and really enjoyed the place, but the last time we visited was over a year ago. I guess we should've figured it out when we saw the near-empty table settings. I mean who ever heard of a Mexican restaurant that has no salsa - for God's Sake!

Tevin K.

Yelp
Best fajitas I've had in town! Great service and quiet restaurant! Menu had many options to choose from
google avatar

Yelp
The owner of La Parilla comped is a meal for slow service which was gracious of him. Their food is very good! I highly recommend their food!
google avatar

Monica R.

Yelp
In the Mother's Day, my husband and I took my sister in law to visit Ojai. When we were going back home, we stopped to charge the car and we had dinner in this place. It was great! The service is friendly, faster, the Marguerita was delicious! Also the salsa and fish taco. The ambiance is a classic Mexican style. It is a good place to have a date, or take your partner for a good meal, chatting. The price is reasonable.

Yelp
Came here because my friend recommended it. I love the chips they were such a good texture and fresh, the salsa had good flavor but just not enough heat. I ordered shredded beef nachos and a chile relleno burrito (I was sharing food) the nachos were ok the beef was tender and flavorful. The only complaint was the pickled carrot and onions on there were random and too sour. The burrito was very nice and huge, could have used more cheese. The service at first was great so nice and quick. Our waitress went on lunch though half way through which happens and is fine but after she left it was like we were forgotten. It took around 15 minutes of us waiting to get our check for them to finally come and take our plates and see if we were done. Would give it a second chance

Yelp
GETTING HERE: La Parrilla is located on Ashwood in Ventura. It's in the CVS shopping center and next door to the cleaners. REVIEW: Great food. Great service. Really and truly. Decided to stop in (during lunch rush, oops) for a bite. Inside, it's a tad cramped, but obviously didn't change my food or review. :) They were packed, so it took a few moments to be seated (but a packed house is a good sign!). We were greeted quickly and were able to place our orders just as quick. The two employees on this side of the kitchen were HUSTLING. V impressive. I thoroughly enjoyed my Chilaquiles (I am a creature of habit obvi) and my guest was so happy with her Shrimp Fajitas. I love the smoke and steam when the Fajitas are brought to the table; it's my favorite. The chips were fantastic and the red sauce didn't burn my mouth. I cannot believe it's been over 7 years since I was last here. I won't make that mistake again. Highly recommend Parrilla. Thank you so much for the outstanding meal and experience. Also, try their Horchata too!

Yelp
Pleasant staff. Tasty ceviche. They have the best mole I've had in a long time. I recommend the chicken mole and the chicken mole enchiladas. This is a rustic Peruvian restaurant that makes one feel like their in Peru.

Yelp
My wife and i like to rotate between the small handful of restaurants in Ventura that offer molcajete as this dish is perfect for two people desiring a variety of delicious traditional mexican foods heaped in a skin-searing bowl made of pumice that used to be molten igneous material until it got too close to the crust, cooled, and crystallized somewhere near where the Yucatan Peninsula juts out into the Gulf of Mexico (currently Gulf of America at the time of this review on day 122 of Trump's second residency as POTUS, but i don't think it will last long) from whence i assume the owners of this fine establishment immigrated bringing their delectable regional entrees and peninsular style. I especially enjoy marveling at the carved wood booths that feature mariachi players and the word, YUCATAN, in relief on the sides as well as the unique paintings on the wall which seem to feature multiple images of the same woman sometimes in the same pastoral scene as if there are villages filled with twins and triplet females wearing the same traditional white mexican smock including one woman sitting impossibly on an Escher-esque donkey cart where the axle impossible aligns two offset wheels.

Yelp
Just to start, this the second negative review I have ever written in seventy six years. Last Tuesday (7/15/2025) we went to La Parrilla Yucatan. We have been regular customers for over twelve years. It has been the best Mexican restaurant in Ventura-Oxnard that we have found, we loved the place. Last Monday we took our Grandson for dinner and what a disappointment. This is not the La Parrilla we frequented. I ordered the Enchiladas Del Mar, a favorite that I have ordered many times. The menu had recently changed so I was not prepared. It was awful. Pablona sauce on tortillas and when I opened the second one there was one shrimp cut into small pieces. Where was my wonderful dish I had enjoyed so often? Also my Grandsons steak and asada-chicken fajitas had so much grease that I used three napkins to pat it off his leftovers to take home. Also left a good amount on the plate. My husband ordered the Zarape Asada that he's had before and could never finish because there is so much meat inside. This time he finished the entire thing because it had so little in it. So disappointing, this is not the La Parella we remember. The wait staff, chef and the menu has all changed and totally different. I doubt that we will return.

Yelp
Great food and friendly service. Have gone for breakfast, lunch, dinner and happy hour. Excellent every time. The seafood enchiladas are amazing!

Yelp
This restaurant has beautifully carved benches and a unique style. I came in before the lunch crowd started coming in. Our server was very nice and friendly but he would not check in with us as much as we would have liked and we would have to ask him for most things. He would come back after long periods of time. Each table also gets chips and salsa. I ordered the asada fries but they were a bit too soggy for my liking. They did have good toppings though with sour cream, guacamole, cheese, and jalapeños. I ordered the quesabirria tacos and they did taste very good. A common factor I noticed though is that the plates were not presented well. Each plate or drink we ordered had spillage and was presented messy. I think this is something the kitchen can work on. Beans and rice were tasty as well. They offer a lot of Yucatan plates so if this is something you would like to try this is the place!
google avatar

Bryan S.

Yelp
Great local spot if you are ever in Ventura and seeking to enjoy an authentic plate from Yucatán. Everything smelled so good and tasted even better. My father in law, stated "everything is excellent!" I was very pleased with the staff, who were friendly and most accommodating to our needs. We shared the Molchajete oh me oh my, the only time I eat meat is with my Poppa (Father in Law) he is so fun to hang out with. We had a Lime Margarita, mind you they make it out of wine- and I mean to tell you I couldn't taste the difference. They were delicious. Thank you for a wonderful visit. Happy New Year!
google avatar

Reta B.

Yelp
I called the business to see if they have any taco Tuesday special around lunch time, I was told yes but I guess it was misunderstanding that it does not start till 3 PM however they still had lunch specials. I got the Birria tacos plate which comes with the red rice and beans. I asked for black beans but got pinto which was fine. Still tasted good. Birria tacos were good, just not enough meat in my opinion. My husband had their lunch burrito and he liked it. Their chips and salsa were so good just like their other location DV. I would give them another try. Service was quick.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great spot for yucatan specialties. The ambience is the perfect mix of restaurant and quick serve for a nice homey meal out. The flavors are traditional and perfect. This is no frills good comfort food. The kids options are great and the service is really friendly and personable. If we lived in the area, we would probably make this a normal stop. If you are in Ventura you can make it your go to Mexican dinner out.
google avatar

Anthony C.

Yelp
We love La Parilla. We normally come for breakfast but we came for a Saturday date night when my girlfriend wanted girl dinner. Normally at breakfast time they'll have to go orders. But at dinner time there was a steady stream of them. We opted to shared sopes and the molcajete. The sopes had carnitas and asada in them and were a perfect appetizer. The chips are always good; and I asked for a green salsa for them and it was flavorful. We loved the molcajete. Perfect mixture of everything you want. The salsa it came in was nice and spicy and was nice and fresh. All the meat was flavorful and you can tell the chicken was put on the flattop and had a nice crust on it while still being juicy. The shrimps were fresh and had a lot of shrimp flavor. I had to get some pictures of the menu.
google avatar

Dolores P.

Yelp
I had such a great experience at La Parrilla Yucatan. I started with some bomb.com wings! Then, I ordered the Relleno and enchilada combo, and my kids got the carnita tacos and fish tacos. EVERYTHING was so fresh and delicious. That food came out hot hot hot so you know it wasn't just sitting under a warmer. The flavors were so unique and not your typical Mexican restaurant flavors. It had a little something extra and was amazing! The Horchata, too. It was a different consistency than I'm used to, but it made for such a refreshing horchata. And even if it wasn't amazing, I would still go back just for the service. Wallie was GREAT! Right when we walked in, he greeted us us with a smile and was so welcoming and hospitable. He helped and answered questions about the menu. Even when my kids were changing their minds, he showed even more kindness. I was really impressed when he brought out wings WITH lots of napkins and ranch. That says experience. Usually we have to ask for that. Wallie knows what's up and how to make visiting La Parilla a great experience. Give them a try for unique, delicious Mexican food.

Yelp
Food was mediocre. Service was 6/10. Ambiance was okay. We were placed in the back of the restaurant which wasn't ideal because it was hot.
google avatar

Sara L.

Yelp
Chris at the counter is all smiles and service focused! super clean cozy restaurant with great food and prices! love this place!

Keith G.

Yelp
I have been coming here for a few years... and feel very ambivalent about it now. The food is consistently good -- the portions are generous and all plates are presented attractively. The staff is very friendly, but the service is really disappointing -- it seems like they always have enough personnel, but there's usually only one (or two) people actually waiting tables. I wish they would address this issue, because I'd like to continue coming here.
google avatar

Robin W.

Yelp
Late lunch on a quiet rainy afternoon came in to get take out. Ambiance is great and very homey with the carved wooden booths. The service is always friendly and they had my order ready to go. I love their wet burritos but I was meeting a friend to work on a project so I ordered 2 Cochinita Pibil dishes with black beans and Spanish rice. They came with 2 salsas and a generous bag of fresh warm tortilla chips and corn tortillas. My friend is from Cuba and this is his favorite restaurant. The flavor profile of the roasted pork was the perfect combination and the pickled red onions are the acid that takes it to the next level. The meat was so tender and the black beans and rice rounded out our delightful meal. Could not have been a more perfect meal. Highly recommend !!
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
Awesome menu, fabulous icy Micheladas and excellent Chile Rellenos! Friendly staff, do lot of take away orders. Family friendly, has back room for groups too. Yucatan food hits the spot for me!
google avatar

Lupe J.

Yelp
To start with, the salsa that comes with the chips was too watery. The guacamole (appetizer) tasted like it was made with the older avocados and the ceviche mixta (appetizer) was dry. The grilled maji maji tacos lacked flavor that was remedied with lemon juice and salt. The STAR of our meal were the tacos de cochinita pibil! And the black beans and rice were delicious and comforting. Would come back just for these tacos. Service was friendly but a little slow for food to come out so you need an appetizer if you are hungry on a Friday evening. Also, stick to their traditional Yucatán dishes.
google avatar

Christine Y.

Yelp
Breakfast burritos w bacon. Huge. Enough for 2. Delicious. Great price. Welcoming service. Fabulous perfect chips. Savory but not too hot busy salsa. I'll definitely stop back when I'm near. Think I'll come sit down meal next time.
google avatar

Taylor J.

Yelp
Honestly does not anything to brag about this place there's salsa I give one star dementia lotta was decent the nachos were kind of trash though. When I say Carne Asada I don't expect to see the meat look like chopped up beef. Won't be coming here again
google avatar

Janine B.

Yelp
Food is excellent and service as well. I have especially enjoyed the soups! I've heard they make them from scratch. So yummy
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
Excellent food and good service. We go there often. Plenty of parking easy access. We like the chicken suissas.
google avatar

Vanessa V.

Yelp
Wonderful breakfast, my husband had the huevos rancheros. The ambience is nice, beautiful music , we've come before and the food is delicious, we order the family meals about once a month too
google avatar

Roger V.

Yelp
Have only been here for lunch, good service for the lunch rush. I get their lunch special chicken wrap! Their chips are made fresh and are always warm when they serve them! Definitely want to eat there but if your in a hurry they do offer to go.

Karen B.

Yelp
OMG ...I have found the ultimate taquitos plate ...chicken filled crispy covered with melted cheese..ranchero sauce and guacamole on the side ...creamy pinto beans and fluffy rice ...

Yelp
Well I don't know where to start but here we are!! This Place Needs to be upgrade a little bit!! I order panuchos was 5 , I order poc-chuc was great! The meat and beans only (the tomato sauce was expired the rice was old and hard ) and the other hand the sopa de Lima! Wasn't any sopa was water with chicken, and didn't have any kind of flavor was nasty ...is a Mexican restaurant and they don't CARRY LIME (limon verde) I pay for it because I don't like to bother the waitress.. service was excellent I can't complain and prices are fair.. be back in a month hopefully they can fixed these problems ... please check CHICHEN ITZA RESTAURANT IN LA

Yelp
Good food, good service, good family restaurant. Clean environment and a nice setting area.

Yelp
A friendly neighborhood eatery. One waitress capably handled the entire room and was able to give advice for ordering. Will definitely come again.
google avatar

Yelp
I very much like the sister restaurant better...DVs. The food here and service was great, but we like the menu at DVs better
google avatar

Blanca G.

Yelp
Wow! So yesterday we ordered their baked chicken family special and wow !! The chicken was so flavorful and literally falling off the bones and in a delicious and yummy way. I upgraded to their homemade tortillas and dinner was a hit! If you're in a bind, and need something delicious and home cooked for your family, the whole chicken with side of beans and rice (and tortillas) is great. I have also had their carnitas plate, their machaca and soon I will try their chicken mole. So grateful to have a delicious authentic Mexican food place close by.
google avatar

Alexander T.

Yelp
The food here was always delicious but the last time I went the food gave me food poisoning I don't know if it was just a mess up or something but usually it's really
google avatar

Dana G.

Yelp
Great little spot for authentic and delicious Mexican food! The service is great, prices are extremely fair, and the food is outstanding. This last time around, we got enchiladas del mar and the birria burrito (enchilada style). Both were absolutely perfect. I highly recommend this restaurant!
google avatar

Art A.

Yelp
This is wonderfully managed family business. The service and food are consistently excellent. Their tall back booths are unique and provide considerable privacy. While there are several very good larger Mexican restaurants in Ventura, this place has the most heart.
google avatar

JL F.

Yelp
The food is always good. The atmosphere and ambiance is even better. A family owned restaurant where they take care to appreciate their customers, make special accommodations in the meal prep, and have wonderful quality consistently. Throughout the last four years I've picked up at least once a month or more. Wally is such a wonderful man and all of them smile and give you great service. I'm mostly do take out and they've never not included everything that I ordered that's saying a lot in the world of takeout. Consider seeing them great parking easy location all in all the wonderful experience and not very crowded during the week evenings take a group
