La Pecora Nera

"Murano glass chandeliers and elegant period flooring provide a contrast to the fresh, contemporary - style decor of this restaurant. Imaginative cuisine with a focus on fish dishes." - Michelin Inspector

We saw other reviews and ended up at the restaurant. I was dining with my 18 year old. What can I say. One of the best meals we have had, and the best in Tuscany! I was surprised by the attentive staff, well timed , beautifully prepared food. You will not be disappointed. One of the highlights of our trip!

It was so good to be here. I am just a traveler but fortunately I had a chance to have dinner with my husband here. I ordered some recommended dishes and we were pretty much satisfied. Servers are all kind and polite. They also recommended good wine to us. All the dishes we ordered were successful. I hope to revisit here someday.

Be prepared to spend a little more, but you get what you pay for. The service was exceptional. The waiters were friendly, attentive and professional. Our starters, Mason and dessert were all exceptional. The wonderful plating was matched by excellent preparation of locally sourced foods. Complimentary treats along the way completed a magical meal. Highly highly recommend.

1. The staff was very friendly. The meticulous service was impressive, such as the staff and the person who seemed to be the owner coming from time to time to see if there was anything more needed. 2. We just ordered wine by the glass, but we were surprised by the high level of service, such as confirming the label and even tasting it as if we had ordered it by the bottle. 3. The taste of the food was very good. Everything was great, from traditional Italian food to modern and refined taste. 4. I was surprised that the price was not expensive. Honestly, I would be satisfied even if it came out more than 30% or 50% more than the bill I received. p.s. I have one regret. I live in Korea with my wife and traveled to Italy for 15 days this time. This restaurant raised our expectations too high. So we haven't had the same satisfaction at any other restaurant in Italy. We visited restaurants that were more expensive than this , and we deliberately found and visited restaurants that were well-priced and frequented by locals, but it was hard to be more satisfied than here. Throughout the trip, we were thinking of this restaurant again. Because we live in Korea, it will be difficult to visit again, but it will be a very memorable restaurant.

Just finished the best meal ever during our time here in Montecatini Terme. The service was fantastic and very attentive. The food was amazing starting off with a complimentary shrimp starter. We had the seared scallops as an appetizer and had the steak Florentine which was more than 2lbs. I was a little worried as I saw in the menu that is was $70 eauros for 2 persons and I read someone’s review that said it was per person. Thank goodness it was for both my wife and I. Honestly I would have paid $70 each since it was so delicious. We topped the meal off with a recommendation of Tiramisu from our server who said it was her favourite and it didn’t disappoint at all. In fact all their desserts are made in house by their own chef. Did I mention the other complimentary things like a glass of Prosecco to start and some fantastic cookies and pralines at the end. If you’re ever in Montecatini you should definitely give this place a go. If I could give 10*’s I would 😀. Great price for everything you get.

This evening was really splendid. From the begin till the end everything was just perfect. The service and also the food was high quality. We really enjoyed this dinner. Everything was really fresh and tasteful. Also the wine recommendation was really on point. The best restaurant in Montecatini. A must. Would go back again. Totally worth it!

Absolutely spectacular. From the table side service to the friendly and professional staff. This is the kind of restaurant you don’t find anymore! We had to return the following evening because the menu left us wanting to experience more. The chef is creative and the combinations are superb. A must if you’re in the area!

Yelp
Non-EU citizen beware: if you don't have a scannable green pass they won't let you in, despite clear instructions from the Italian government. My wife called to reserve a spot outside and upon arrival we were asked for the green pass. We showed our CDC vaccination cards and were told those are not valid. I pointed out that official info on the US embassy in Italy with reference to The Italian Ministry of Health's website state that CDC vaccination cards "white cards" are an equivalent to the Green pass. The host refused to listen and said he has clear instructions not to let anyone in without a scan. We asked to speak to the manager, because it's difficult to get a last minute reservation wherever and we have a hungry 2 year old baby on our hands! We were told to wait a few minutes as somebody would be right with us, but nobody was coming. Feeling that something is not right my wife called the restaurant and asked to speak to the manager, but was told that the manager is not on sight. The host was obviously lying and hoping that we would just leave (make the problem go away). We confronted him, to which he responded very rudely that they are calling someone. We got into a discussion and finally the "manager" (or maybe not?) came out. The lady said she can't let us in, because they are facing big fines for violation. At that point I had only a few questions left: why couldn't she just come out and talk to us like a normal person without the whole theater of hiding and escalating the situation? Why make us wait with a hungry baby for such a long time hoping we would just leave? Why don't restaurants in high tourist areas get informed about the laws? Is this how Michelin-recommended restaurants work?

Yelp
Simply lovely in every way...we stopped in and were delighted with the welcome glass of Rose Prosecco, the foie gras appetizer, the truffle gnocchi, the fish soup, the lovely wine list, and oh my goodness, the poached pear for dessert!

Yelp
Staying in the area and discovering charming Montecatani, we looked forward to this dinner. The restaurant got high praise. It is a small room with a terrace in a hotel. It feels like a hotel restaurant. The wait staff was hovering over us uncomfortably. We loved that they wanted to please, but we felt as though we had to please them! The atmosphere in the restaurant is stuffy and a bit cloying. In many ways it felt like we had stepped back into the 1960s. We had no complaints about it food. It was very good. Not extraordinary, but very good. For the prices, however, I expected extraordinary. The chef seems to be French-trained in an old fashioned kind of way. I remember eating that way with my parents. What set me into inappropriate laughter were the translations in the English menu of Italian food. Aranchini were described as rice and cheese croquettes. It seemed to be deemed understandable to use the French "croquette", but not the Italian "aranchini". My favorite translations were an unappetizing sounding appetizer/anipasti: blue cheese and celery pie (apparently a gorgonzola flan) and the inexplicable secondi (entree) of mayonnaise and egg yolks. I did ask the waiter about the second one and learned it was was fish dish. Go figure. In a town with so many interesting restaurants, La Pecora Nera would not my choice again and I don't recommend it unless you are bringing elderly dinner companions. We're not "kids" but this was not for us.
