"La Perla is a classic panaderia with all the conchas, gorditas, and other pan dulces you may desire. Use the tongs, or expect a reprimanding." - Gustavo Arellano

This is located across the street from Where planet fitness used to be on White Lane. It's a tiny place. There's always people coming and going and the items are always fresh. In my opinion they have the best Mexican sweets of any bakery I've been to in Kern. When I am craving something crispy and sweet I will pass 10 other bakeries to come to this one. It's always the same woman behind the counter so I assume she owns it. I've never seen her smile nor even speak, but I don't go to chit chat... I go to buy the best rum raisin bread pudding sticky squares ( I'm clue as to what it's really called) and crispy flaky orejas plus a multitude of other cookies and rolls. The parking lot is cramped. If you cannot find parking, it's worth it to park at the gas station across the street and walk over. When you walk in you grab a tray and a pair of tongs. Put everything on your tray, take it to the counter. Put the tongs in the bucket and she puts all your items in a paper bag. She does not individually wrap it. She just throws it all in the bag. I do not care. It is all worth it, Her poker face, the lack of tray liners, the lack of individual wrapping. Throw it at me sister. I'm going to eat half of it in the car before I make it home.

I've always enjoyed this local panaderia. They have some pretty good pan dulce, and I still think that it's quite good. However, I once went during the summer of 2024 and there were flies everywhere flying all over the bread. I'm guessing the owners of the store left the door wide open on purpose because of how hot it was, but this obviously lead to flies being everywhere. Idk about you guys but flies on your food are not okay. flies are insects that will literally fly over pieces of poop. so in general, a piece of advice, NEVER eat food that has been touched by flies or insects. I have always loved this place, but because of that, i will not return,

I walked into the store and the sweet bread was not out but people were waiting in line and one of the workers was picking out the bread for them I waited so they could put the bread out so I could pick what I wanted for about 15 minutes and they would not take the bread out to get picked so I just put the tray back and the tongs back and walk out they did not say wait or anything. Bad service

Best Mexican Bread in Bakersfield.

Workers are rude and unsanitary they grab the money and bread at the same time they got mad when I told them. The bread is fine tho.

Pictures taken back home .. there are "no pictures allowed" inside La Perla Bakery. And honestly, what fkn sane gluten loving person walks into a bakery store and says hey I want to take a bunch of pictures of this yummy stuff? No, no-no, all you're really thinking about is stuffing it in your mouth. But, before you're allowed to do that, you should carefully pile up as much as you truly desire using the tongs provided onto a handy platter, stand in line, and pay beforehand. No prices are listed but arrest assured that each individual item is priced at less than $1. Advice to come in with at least $5 is just the smart thing to do because honestly you'll want more than one piece. Intuitively one is drawn to what pleases their eye first, but if you want to know what's actually within the bread itself simply ask and any of the workers will let you know in either Spanish or English what the name of the pastry is as well as what it contains inside. I purchased all of this in the box plus the bag of semitas and a large cup of coffee for $11. There are a few more fruit filled pastries hidden underneath the concha. This place is doing everything right. 🇲🇽☕🥐

Don't buy cake. I asked for a 3 leches. That cake was dry and it did not even taste that good. The design of the cake was pretty but if the cake taste bad then what's the point?!! Very disappointing.

Google
Hole in the wall panaderia that cranks out proper pan dulce and just about any other pastry you're looking for!

Yelp
Great selection of fresh daily baked pan dulce The lady that helped me was very friendly. Great efforts of sanitation for minimal contamination. Come early for better selection. I was there at noon on a Wednesday and the 2 people that follwed me in didn't read the sign. ‍ Doesn't bother me but if you put a sign on the door, you'd expect people would respect that. Might be an issue on a busy weekend morning, but not today.

Yelp
I think they have amazing bread! Their conchas are bomb! The place looks nice, clean, and organized! The only problem here is the horrible ugly attitude that cashier has. Doesn't welcome you when you walk in. Doesn't have basic manners!

Gia H.

Yelp
the pan dulce is fine. customer service is TRASH. the cashier never fails to have an attitude problem. every single time. extremely rude and bad for business. last time i go there, if i could give zero stars i would.

Darrell B.

Yelp
No hours are listed on their door and not even an answering machine stating their hours. EVERYTHING is listed/written in Spanish. Get some magnetic labels and write what your items are in English too. You have customers whom do not read, write or speak Spanish that purchase some of your items. Post your business days and hours on the door!!! Depending on the time, you will not have a good selection of their items. Very difficult to get into the strip mall they are located in. More so, it is difficult to exit this strip mall if you try and exit onto Hughes Ln. to try and go North. You must consider exiting East onto White Ln and making a U-Turn back to the West and then turning North onto Hughes Ln.

Maria L.

Yelp
Our favorite panadería. I'm greeted with a "Buenos días" . Highly recommend the conchas!

Shan M.

Yelp
Bread is really good And kept organized and in clean area. The only issue is that the prices were not obvious and posted by each type of bread. So the charging has never been consistent. One time I got 35 pieces and total was $42 and the next time I got 22 pieces and the total was $37. So definitely ask what the prices are and make sure you keep a tally. Staff can be a little more welcoming but regardless of that, good place to get sweet bread.

Hannah M.

Yelp
Best place to buy pan dulce. It's simple, easy, clean, and the staff is welcoming. it's super cheap!

Vanessa M.

Yelp
Fist time here wont be coming back rude cashier can even say good morning, we were looking at the bread and she started putting bread, couldn't wait until we move or leave then said it was one per family it was only 2 of us, their no sign on the front door requesting mask or 1 per family,

Maricel P.

Yelp
First let me start off by saying, I'm from Delano and my husband is from Earlimart so we love Mexican pastries. Something about Mexican pastries that just isn't comparable to your everyday donuts from the donut shop, on the corner, down the street, near your neighborhood. I haven't tried a lot of Mexican pastries here in town, but I know the ones here are freshly baked daily and are always stocked up. If I had to choose a favorite here, I'm definitely sticking w these little cheesecakes they make... yum. I don't know the name, so I'm sorry guys. My second favorite is kinda like a triangle croissant which has a vanilla pudding filling inside. They have such a huge selection that when you walk in, you'll end up leaving w a bag full of bread. I know they make cakes here too, but I don't know about the pricing. Bread is pretty cheap here and affordable. If you do visit here, parking is crazy and is sometimes jammed packed to where you'll have to circle around to find parking. Also, make sure to ask if their credit card machine is working because sometimes it's not and you'll have to pull cash out.

Cheryl G.

Yelp
The woman behind the counter shouted at me in Spanish and I left. I have no idea what she said.

Christian A.

Yelp
Horrible servicio.

Selene O.

Yelp
Horrible, horrible, horrible service!!! Bread is okay, I have tried better . Over priced .

Susie R.

Yelp
I love the pan dulce from here. It is the most authentic taste I have had. I have never had a bad experience or terrible bread. Def with the trip, especially in the winter. Delicioso!!!

CrashendoZ Z.

Yelp
Some of the best pan dulce in all of Bakersfield and this is very surprising considering the fact that the lady behind the counter, who I assume is also the baker, exudes energy that she hates both you and her job from the moment you make eye contact that being said she is fairly good looking so if your into that this might be a bonus instead of a negative. Any-who I will continue to shop here because the bread is worth both the price it takes out of both my self esteem and pocket.

Yelp
This Hispanic bakery is located on the corner of White Lane and Akers in the same strip plaza as Mariscos Puerto Vallarta. Parking can be a problem sometimes because of lack of spaces. I tried a cheese Danish and a slice of cheesecake. Paid $1.80 total for those two goodies. Second visit I tried the empanada with vanilla filling. Got a croissant and another kind of bread for my mother n'law. She loved the croissant and the other bread which was surprising cause she is very very picky. All the items that I've tried have been pretty good. Prices are about the same as most other hispanic bakeries in town. They are cleaner than most other bakeries in Bako. Without a doubt, I'll continue frequenting this bakery when I'm at the ice cream shop next door.

Gaby G.

Yelp
Service is not the best. The ladies act as if they are giving away the food, they forget we are paying customers. The bread is delicious, but I wouldn't be back just because they lack customer service skills.

Andres M.

Yelp
Favorite Mexican bread place in town! The worker is always so pleasant. The bread is the best that I can find close to home. There are no prices for any of the bread, but the worker can quickly tell you how much each piece costs. Very affordable nonetheless.

Andrew B.

Yelp
Came in in a Sunday with the family to get bread for the kids first time eating Mexican bread. Lady told us in Spanish we needed mask in order to come in, we told her we had none. Her response was well you need one to come in here rudely. We told her that's fine we would not come back. Rude service and just went to a different place with no problems.

Eriny D.

Yelp
The owner she's so rude and the price every time is different when I asked for my receipt she gives me only print with the total I buy not for each item with the nam and price. Every time I go different person charge me and with different price!!!!!! Not all the stuff is good and if keep the bred for one day will be so hard and taste so bad!!!!!

Lina L.

Yelp
Tasty little Mexican breads/donuts/cookies here. Parking REALLY sucks, but this place still tends to stay busy. They also have drinks and Mexican candies. I advise not to get too many things at once to keep what you don't eat right away from drying out and going stale.

Raymond G.

Yelp
Loved this place!! The pumpkin empanadas were really good and filling, the strawberry rolls are thick and worth it. They do have drink selection so that's a plus. Very good selection. Definitely be returning here. Parking is pretty tight location. Overall a great place to get some pan dulce.

Kimmy C.

Yelp
I don't recommend getting your bread here found 2 hairs in one of mine so grossed out plus the bread is always hards and looks like it's been siting there for 1-2 weeks

Jackie L.

Yelp
I enjoy the bread so much and the pan dulce too. I never get disappointed everytime I take for my family or for my mother law.

Dayana Z.

Yelp
Bad costumer service from this lady who appeared to be tired or something. I wanted to order my birthday cake and she came up with a price and then when I asked her twice she raised the price higher. I don't think they want to make a sell. I hope they get better costumer service in the future. I honestly like the cakes but it's the attitude. Remember it's not what you say it's how you say it, lol.

Janna L.

Yelp
What we bought looks good and the shelves were well stocked for a Fri afternoon. Service not the friendliest and Spanish speakers only if you have a question! The prices were great though (got 3 items for under $3). They give you a tray and some tongs for your selections - I wish there was some type of wax paper on top of the tray or similar for sanitary reasons.

Eli V.

Yelp
Went there for a sweet too fix the other day. I enjoy the fresh mexican sweet bread that is made throughout the day. Unfortunately we went a little later in the evening and they didn't have quite the selection that I'm used to, however, they did have plenty to choose from. The employees are very friendly and always greet everyone that comes in. They are helpful in answering any questions. They do charge to use debit, I believe it's either 25 or 35 cents.

S F.

Yelp
Tried this place for the 1st time, rude service. The girl at the register had no personality and was just shoving my bread in the bag, the bread isn't fantastic. Won't be giving this place another try.

Marcy H.

Yelp
Best mexican bread. Haven't tried cakes, but if you are one who loves Fresh Mexican pastries this is the best

Marlene M.

Yelp
Fresh, moist, good price, great selection, simply the best pan dulce. Highly recommend.

Monica D.

Yelp
Great bakery but very rude employees! The girls have a horrible attitude you can sense as soon as you walk in. They walked out with trays of fresh bread and scolded us when we tried to pick from those. If they want to sell the older bread first they should probably keep it in the back before bringing it out in front of customers. The way they answer your questions and talk to you when you are paying is very rude as well. I have worked in customer service before so I know that's not a proper way to talk to or treat customers. We have a business so are always buying donuts and bread for our customers. We were thinking of adding this bakery to the list of customer treats but would much rather support other businesses that don't have such a horrible attitude. I gave this place a chance even after hearing from friends about the rude employees, but unfortunately will not be back. And I will not be recommending to any family, friends, or customers.

Jenny S.

Yelp
The bread is amazing! And they've made it very easy to be clean and social distance inside. We started coming here almost weekly. It's delicious!

Petunnia G.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped by around 10:30 on the weekend to pick up some sweet bread for his grandfather that lives a few blocks away. The shelves were full of different options and we grabbed a dozen of what we usually get from Vallarta. With the empanadas, there were no labels to which is which and the ladies behind the counter didn't seem to understand us or cared to help us. To compare with Vallarta, their sweet breads were smaller in size and from what I remember, more expensive than Vallarta. Don't think we'll be going visiting again. P.S: parking is awful.

Violeta G.

Yelp
They have the best elotes and conchas!! Their bread is always so soft!!! so sad their far from the east side :(

Rosie A.

Yelp
Bread is pretty good and doesn't get hard right away like from grocery stores. Good place to pick up some sweet Mexican bread.

Corrina E.

Yelp
Best Mexican bakery I have ever been too. I love Mexican bread and the bread here is so good, so soft and affordable. One of my favorite places in Bakersfield. Parking does suck but that's no fault on the establishment, we're here to review the food.

Jesus E.

Yelp
Not a bad Mexican bakery. All the essential breads that will remind you of grandmas house. Location is not the best, parking lot is really cramped, but grateful to have solid bakery on my side of town. :)

M. E.

Yelp
Their Mexican pastries are good and always fresh. The location is awful and parking horrible. They are always open. Make it a good, quick stop if you like Mexican pasties.
