Where to Eat While Visiting Lake Michigan’s Beach Towns

"The Harbor Country region has a number of supermercados with taquerias in the back that cater to the labor from the many farms found around the region. La Perla is the most popular and rightfully so. Families line up on the weekends for an outdoor street taco setup that includes al pastor cut from the spit, tender melt in your mouth lengua, smoky carne asada, and much more. Customers can also grab pounds of carnitas, barbacoa, and fresh grilling meats from the butcher section inside. There’s also a location on Napier." - Naomi Waxman, Titus Ruscitti

Food: 5/5 Service 4/5 Atmosphere: 4/5. If I could, I would give La Perla a 10 out of 5. VERY good food, and you can shop for great hispanic groceries. 😋 I love the hispanic vibe here. It appears you can cash checks, shop, eat, and grab a bus to different states from here. The meat and produce look delicious, and the people here are genuinely friendly. I also love the store hours. I could buy a burrito at 8am! 😲 Very good place to eat and shop!

Very good food for a great price. We had tacos al pastor as well as a steak taco, chips and guacamole, and some horchata. All were very good. Great portion size and the price could not be beat. The store portion is also very well stocked with tons of bulk spices and products that are hard to come by in big box grocery stores.

You can tell from the crowd this is the place to come get your taco fix! 🌮 I'm not sure quite what I did since I ended up with 5 tacos instead of 3... AND rice and beans. Carne asada was great. Chorizo was also... loved the salsas. Of course, we went through the market and now all I think is why didn't I get the chicharrones. It was a quick drive from Niles.

The tamales were excellent. I would recommend the salsa verde at the table, and I am not a big fan. The selection in the market was impressive. I have my source of ingredients for hispanic meals!

Best Mexican food I have had in a long time. The salsa was phenomenal. The store was well stocked and I enjoyed every minute of being there.

So lucky to have found this place while passing through on a trip from Madison to Ann Arbor! Wanted something quick to eat but didn’t want a fast food option, and this was perfect. Walked in and placed our order for three tacos and a quesadilla and it only took a few minutes to get prepared, so at ate inside before getting back on the road and everything was so good. The meats were all excellent and the two kinds of salsa they had were perfection (I slightly preferred the spicier of the two which was the red salsa).
