The 13 Best Vegan Restaurants in Mexico City | Eater

"In 2015, Laura Cárdenas and Guillermo García started selling vegan food from a Volkswagen bug and quickly became popular at weekend markets. Today, in a permanent space, their approach to veganism is colorful, with fresh ingredients sourced through fair-trade practices and verified traceability to different regions of Mexico: white corn from Sinaloa, organic hibiscus flowers from Nayarit, black beans from Puebla, and more. The two must-try tacos — served on beet-dyed pink corn tortillas — are the mushroom with pineapple puree and the cauliflower with coconut cheese. As a main course, order the Mixteco-style black mole, lightly spiced with deeply roasted chiles and plated with pink tortillas, plantains, faux cheese, and rice." - Natalia de la Rosa

I visited twice in less than 24 hours. I couldn't decide between the mole mixteco and the tacos baja so I decided to make a second visit. Both were outstanding. I also enjoyed the flautas made with hibiscus. The drinks (horchata and tapeche) were both nice as well. My only regret is not trying their ice cream which looks amazing and super creative flavours. Great friendly service both times and nice to sit outside.

Google
Amazing vegan food in the heart of Mexico city. Everything we tried was delicious and made with care. Wish I had vegan mole like this available back home. Highly recommend!

Google
I'd heard of the pink tortillas at La Pitahaya Vegana and food blogger Rated V for vegan featured a visit here, so I thought: Why not? Located in a cool Roma neighbourhood and surrounded by colourful buildings and lush greenery, this casual and cheerful restaurant was worth the trip. Staff were very kind and attentive. My Spanish skills are mediocre, so I was grateful for an English menu. Not everything was available, but I had the pink hibiscus lemonade, guacamole and chips, and the bananas and cheese enchiladas in Oaxacan mole with rice. Really different and tasty. Dessert was a hazelnut chocolate pudding. Also good. Portions are reasonable and prices as you'd expect in the mid-range - about $620 pesos. The indoor seating is limited, and outdoor is along the sidewalk, but wide enough, so pedestrian traffic was not a bother. If you're looking for a vegan menu and a playful vibe, check out La Pitahaya Vegana.

Google
Amazing food and amazing atmosphere. I enjoyed all the food I got and the drinks. They were very delicious. I recommend everyone who’s vegan and not vegan to try this place. They have very cool vegan pink tortillas and drinks!

Google
The food was fantastic. Some really good flavours and authentic tastes. The staff were really friendly and engaging. They helped me with my Spanish and spoke English to me when I struggled in. I would highly recommend a visit.

Google
Great vegan option and super friendly service. I had the 3 taco combo (cauliflower, avocado, mushroom pastor) - all were tasty, super fresh, nicely garnished and beautiful on those famous pink tortillas. Maybe a little pricey - about $14 US for the taco plate and a sparking water - but really good quality.

Google
Absolutely loved this spot! 🌱✨ This Mexican vegan restaurant is a true gem. Every dish bursts with bold, authentic flavour, and you’d never guess it’s all plant based. The service is just as impressive - warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Whether you're vegan or not, this place is a must visit! 🌮💚

Google
Wow. This was so good. I will be dreaming about their food for some time. The servers were attentive, kind, and gave good recommendations. I ordered a topo chico (they salted the rim which was a nice touch), guacamole, and three tacos. Tacos were: pastor de setas; pesto sweet potato; and my favorite, the taco baja.

Yelp
My favorite vegan taco spot (out of por simpre, gracias madre, and Jenni's quesadilla). The place is very cute - catering to a health focused social media interested crowd. Ordered 3 different tacos based on server's recommendations and they didn't disappoint! They tasted phenomenal.

Yelp
This is a fabulous option for vegan in Mexico City. They have the difference of centering the plants in the dish rather than creating plant based replicas of meat tacos (which can also be good). This makes them stand out I think as a must go because anyone can season seitan or tofu to make it taste like chicken. However, can you create an experience around vegetables without mirroring pork carnitas? A little harder, but I think they do a good job. Friendly staff and food comes quick. I had the nachos, which was some of the best nut cheese I've had. I also had the taco trio. I think the pastor was the tastiest and the coliflor was also good. I wasn't that enthusiastic by the tofu one, but it was nice nonetheless. The only reason why this isn't a 5 star is because I feel that the tacos could have a little more salt, heat, and fat content to balance the flavors more. I also feel that the side salsas, while delicious, were not spicy enough. No notes for the nachos! I think the ambiance is cute. Pink everywhere. Little tables. Indoor and outdoor seating. It has fast casual vibe, so nothing formal. They don't serve alcohol after 5pm, which was a bummer.

Yelp
Good food. Got sick from the smoothie. Don't forget about watching out for iced drinks in Mexico

Yelp
I enjoyed my meal here, it was my last, it was my lsat meal while visiting Mexico City, I oped for the breakfast special which is served until 2pm - I picked the burrito which comes w a fruit bowl, coffee and orange juice. I want to start staying that the colors and the presentation of the dishes is truly next lever, just visually beautiful and very inviting. The fruit was yummy, the burrito was huge so I ate only half and took the other half to go. The flavors were wonderful, it was delicious. I also wanted to try the famous purple tacos so I ordered one tofu curry one and also it was just wonderful. I ended up ordering a brownie as well and the brownie was 90 pesos which I thought that was bit expensive, the presentation once again as on point but I found the brownie to be too dense. The one aspect that I was disappoint with my experience was the customer service, once my meal was brought to me , no body checked on me one single time, nobody asked how is my meal, if I needed anything, I was the staff being attentive to other guests but since I was sitting further away, I left ignored, I also had to ask for the check myself. Yelp
Full-on vegan cafe with everything good about Mexican food. It has the feel of the nomadic tourist and the presentation is business casual. Expect to be seated outside as all but 2 tables are inside. I didn't know this is a small chain of about 8 ish places in Mexico, but it is definitely on the pricier side so keep that I mind. Me and my frirneds got the following: Nachos: 5/5 Tasty and meaty despite it being vegan, add it with the chickpeas chorizo for 20 pesos more. Probably one of the better dishes. 3 Tacos Baja: 5/5 One of the best vegan tacos I've had. I think it's cauliflower chicken wrapped in pink tortillas and had a tangy sweet and sour that's hard to describe, but it's delicious. Think of a soft taco with a crunchy egg roll, but it's better. Yumm. Mole Mixteco: 3.5/5 Probably my least favorite item. The fried tortilla wasn't crunchy and not my forte. Has an interesting banana sauce but wasn't enough for me to like it. I'll pass on this since this was also 300 pesos which is a lot compared to the other items on the list that were better. Sopa: 4/5 The green thing was a spinach soup with cashew milk in a beautiful flower pattern. We used it as a dip for other things because it looked like dipping sauce but as a soup it's delicious. Limonada Rosa: 3.5/5 Seltzer water with lemonade and not sweet at all. I get it but it's not my cup of tea. It's aight. Overall awesome spot for a casual dinner. There's something for everyone and you don't even have to be a vegan to like this spot.

Yelp
We had dinner here on a Thursday evening and it was surprisingly not busy. We were a group of 5 and we were seated right away at one of the inside tables. The server quickly brought over menus and took our drink orders. We mostly all ordered the pink lemonade. I was parched so I was super ready to indulge in this lemonade. The drinks were brought out and we all took a sip. The lemonade was / is unsweetened. The agave that was given to us on the side came in clutch. We literally used it all up. I ordered the vegan burger and it was so pretty. The bun was nice and pink :) It tasted pretty good and at times I forgot it was vegan. My friends all pretty much enjoyed their meals as well which consisted of another burger, tacos, a burrito, and a soup. Definitely add this spot to one of your must visits when in the area. The food was good but the service could've been a little better.

Yelp
Beautiful presentation and also incredibly delicious tasting. The Baja tacos were the best vegan tacos I've ever eaten!

Yelp
I really dug everything about this place. The restaurant is unassuming in the middle of a modestly busy intersection but stands out because of its pink decor (perfect for a few Instagram photos). It has a clean cafe look, with a bit of a bakery vibe. But, it's a full-on small restaurant with a menu you can view in both Spanish and English, definitely earning points for convenience. The menu was split into apps, tacos, breakfast, burgers, drinks, desserts, and entrees. We had the 3 taco combo and the mole. They were both fantastic. I loved all three tacos I ordered (coliflor, pastor de setas, and papas al curry), but especially liked the pastor de setas (mushroom and pineapple). And the mole was rich and flavorful. The banana was a little sweet (plantains would have been a better balance), but it was still amazing. The guacamole was also not bad. The only menu item I didn't particularly enjoy were the cinnamon rolls, which was too bad because I bought six of them *oops*. The dough was great, but the frosting was not as sweet as I was expecting and the icing they gave for the top was a little tangy, which didn't match the flavor profile I prefer. But, it was still worth a try, especially if you don't have a big sweet tooth. And the service was exceptional. Our server was helpful and delightful. The prices were a little high for Mexico City (I didn't do the math correctly originally, which is why I got too many cinnamon rolls). But, the overall experience was fantastic. Honestly, I can't wait to go back to try the burgers and breakfast.

Yelp
In a city full of good restaurants, consider this to be a top tier option. There isn't a lot of indoor seating so I was happy the weather was perfect for eating outside. The food itself was all a vegetarian could ask for, fresh, tasty and filling portion sizes. The staff was super friendly and my server communicated fully in English, so anyone that isn't fluent in Spanish should be ok eating here. The pricing was quite reasonable and I would definitely return for another meal.

Yelp

Yelp
This was possibly my favorite meal I ate while in Mexico City this past weekend. I'm a pescatarian, and usually stick to vegetarian/vegan so was very intrigued by this cafe. I made my sister and I a reservation for a Saturday at 2pm, and I'm really glad I did, the place was full when we arrived (it's not that big). It's super cute with tables in their indoor/outdoor space. The servers were all nice, and pretty efficient. There was an English menu, and our server spoke english. The food was SO GOOD. We started with the nachos. And then each got 3 tacos, we both agreed the best taco was the cauliflower one. Food was superb, and a great value.

Jeremiah O.

Yelp
Excellent food. I ordered the taco combo and it was great. Nice little neighborhood vegan taco shop.
google avatar

Poppy B.

Yelp
Probably my favorite place in Mexico City. I came there a couple of times for breakfast and a couple of times for lunch and every time it was perfection. Great food, great service and great location.
google avatar

Tarah D.

Yelp
This place is a fast-casual vibe, but the food is next level. The mole dish was incredible- and as a vegetarian, mole can be hard to come by. We also had the taco trio. Which was fantastic. This place will satisfy vegans and non-vegans alike.

Yelp
The hype. More often than not it's a disastrous disappointment but sometimes it lives up to all the YT videos and word-of-mouth recommendations. La Pitahaya was on my list of vegan eateries to visit while in Mexico City. On this day, breakfast was on my mind and Chilaquiles were front and center. We arrived just as they opened and took a seat at one of the sidewalk tables. My phone was having a difficult time pulling up the menu with the QR code but once connected to their WiFi, it was a lot easier. My dining companion decided to skip breakfast, not a good decision, but she wanted some famous street food, mainly tamales. I had my heart set on the Chilaquiles and they didn't disappoint. There was a bountiful of flavors and colors all in sync with each other. It was not only a joy to taste all the flavors but to look down and decide if I was going to eat the blue-chip or the purple chip next. So many decisions. Thankful I had some time to decide as I didn't want to rush my euphoria of eating vegan chilaquiles in North America's largest city. I wanted to come back and eat again but our stay in Mexico City was jam-packed over 48 hours and I didn't make it back in time but I'll be back perhaps twice in one day. If you want a culinary experience in colors and flavors, make sure to check out La Pitahaya in Colonia Roma, Mexico City.
google avatar

Marcel S.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants in México City. It might take some time for your food to arrive, but it's quality and worth the wait. The price is nice and the service is good. I feel scene here.
google avatar

Sanjay J.

Yelp
Went in with high expectations based on reviews but overall experience left much to be desired. The food was ok while not exceptional. The most disappointing part was service. The server was more interested in chatting with the staff than serving. We had to request for plates, water, drinks multiple times. There was not once that she smiled which was very peculiar - seems someone forced her into work.

Nayeliesco ..

Yelp
Food was really good perfect for vegans. The service was great, they offer inside & outside seating. The Chile en nogada was my favorite never had anything like it, kinda of sweet/savory with a soft & crunchy texture from the sauce & pomegranates. The pink theme from the pitaya is fun too.
google avatar

Katie G.

Yelp
Just as good as every review here--these tacos are delicious! Can't go wrong with any you order and the pink theme at this restaurant is so cute. Pink lemonade is delicious too!
google avatar

Steven A.

Yelp
Great little cafe with good food that came out quick. We had a burrito and cauliflower tacos, both were colorful and excellent. As with most vegan food, the burrito was not super heavy and full of flavor. The cauliflower in the tacos was crispy and delicious. We also split the brownie. Yummy, I highly recommend.
google avatar

Claire B.

Yelp
SO DELICIOUS!!!! Definitely go here. The food is fresh and clearly house made daily. The service is prompt and the vibes are immaculate. Love the visual presentation of the food and the taste is of equal quality!
google avatar

Dana P.

Yelp
Super cute concept: a taco shop with pink tortillas. We ordered tacos, enchiladas, nachos, soup, and a burrito, and everything was delicious. Even my non-vegan family members really enjoyed the food and left feeling full. Staff members were friendly & gave great recommendations. You have to try the pink chai latte - spicy, sweet, & unusual!
google avatar

Elise M.

Yelp
Love this place! Visiting from the US and it was so great for my family. Great prices and we got a huge breakfast and everything was delicious. Super fresh ingredients and nice seating too.
google avatar

Stephanie Y.

Yelp
Such a cute spot in a perfect location of a friendly, pretty, and walkable neighborhood of Roma. We ordered the Mole and all 6 tacos because we really wanted to try each one! The mole was a generous proportion for sharing and soo good!! And the tacos? WOW. Every bite was full of flavor. We didn't know what to expect but they were AMAZING. We were so full but had to finish all the content inside the glorious pink taco tortilla (which is so aesthetically pleasing). And if you're lucky, you'll be there when the owner and his dog (Shanty/Chanty?) is there! The cutest and friendliest little puppy dog you ever did see!! The owner was so inviting and also gave us recommendations on where in Roma to explore. Just an all around great experience. We cannot recommend it enough!
google avatar

Iksheeta S.

Yelp
These were one of the best vegan tacos I had in Mexico City. I had three tacos -- all with very different taste profile. I would, however, like to point out that if you're looking for something Mexican tasting or something more authentic tasting - this would not be it. Their flavours are great for a more global palette/standard.
google avatar

Adrian B.

Yelp
Super yummy tacos. Perfect for brunch or breakfast. I ordered a burrito & flan to go ( I will update with pictures later) Super friendly staff. The drinks left little to be desired both the kombucha & rose lemonade were odd. Other than that it was really good :) glad I tried it out.
google avatar

Tricia K.

Yelp
Very gracious service, delicious healthy vegan food, elegant presentation, outdoor seating. The "tres tacos" is a fun deal because you get to pick which three you want. I believe the entire menu is gluten-free. Everything I've had so far has been super tasty, and the service is consistently friendly.

Karttikeya M.

Yelp
Good food, English speaking staff that communicate well. Food is delicious and beautifully presented but a bit on the pricey side!
google avatar

Emily R.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! Some of the best tacos, and by far the prettiest we got in mexico city. The pinapple sauce on the cauliflower was sensational. would dine again. the flan was honestly disappointing but otherwise great place.
google avatar

Rikki R.

Yelp
This is a good vegan restaurant. We had the quest nachos and my boyfriend ordered the taco trio. The nachos had good flavor and the food was very colorful and fun. I had the pink lemonade which I thought was juice but it was carbonated and I didn't necessarily like that personally. My boyfriend has been vegan for 7 years and he loved this place.

Mira B.

Yelp
Best vegan food I've had. So many flavors and all so refreshing and delicious. Tres tacos -coliflor, machaca tofu y seats were awesome
google avatar

Neil V.

Yelp
Delicious food in a beautiful part of CDMX! My young kids enjoyed their meals as much as my wife and I.
google avatar

Emily W.

Yelp
This is the cutest spot in terms of design/decor and presentation but I was not blown away by the actual food. The cafe de olla was uninspiring. The main dishes were decent and everything is vegetarian. My fiancé liked it much better than me.
google avatar

Ben S.

Yelp
We visited La Pitahaya on the strength of their vegan tacos, and it did not disappoint! We swung by on a weekday afternoon and were promptly seated outside in the cafe. We received kind service the entire time and got three of the vegan tacos - cauliflower with coconut cottage cheese, oyster mushroom pastor, and tofu scramble. They were all good - I liked the mushroom one a lot and my wife loved the pineapple salsa/glaze on the cauliflower one. They were certainly unique and the beet in the tortillas makes for a great photo. We had a nice, quick lunch for a great price, and loved supporting a vegan establishment. Pairs well with the ice cream spot next door!
google avatar

Premila M.

Yelp
Delicious. Delicious. Delicious! This was the last vegetarian restaurant we were to visit in Mexico City before going back to my beloved SF city and what a treat it was! This is a bit off the Main Street in Roma with all the boutiques and restaurants. A cute spot with very interesting and green roof decor, this is your "must go" place in Roma! We had the Tamale for appetizers and it melted in our mouths. Beautiful texture and flavors. We ordered three Tacos- Tofu, coconut and cauliflower, and aubergine. Wrapped in pink soft tacos each of them tasted so distinctive and tasty. They were juicy and so fresh. Coupled with the fresh lime juice and spicy sauces they serve for the table this was lip smacking! The Enchiladas stuffed with potatoes and chickpeas were so filling. We stuffed ourselves. Highly recommend this place for vegetarians!
google avatar

Neil R.

Yelp
Wow. Just amazing. I am not a vegetarian or vegan but definitely appreciate good food... carnivorous or not. I believe there are only two enchiladas on the menu and we got both (pictured). Both were flavorful and light, but surprisingly filling, even to share. Service was fantastic. Small and intimate venue. Meat eaters will not be disappointed, if they need a break from El Pastor or the like. Take a chance. You may be pleasantly surprised!
google avatar

Karmay G.

Yelp
I ate this meal nice and slow. Very good, and fresh. Thank you for this lovely vegan meal!
google avatar

Hong V.

Yelp
I'm a serious, loyal carnivorous taco eater -- yet I've come to this vegan spot every time I visit Mexico City, and I've brought a different friend each time who always end up loving it. It's small, cozy, and popping with colors, in both their decor and their amazingly delicious vegan tacos. I've had the pastor de seta (mushroom pastor), the coliflor and requeson; the papas al curry (curried potato); the scrambled tofu; the creation of the month; the guacamole; their flan; their lassi and hibiscus drinks. All were delicious. The coliflor and requeson (cauliflower and coconut cottage cheese) stands out in particular for the flavor and the unexpected texture. I highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting, even the meat lovers. It will be some of your favorite and most impressionable tacos you've had ever.
google avatar

Saurabh K.

Yelp
Absolutely 5 star experience! Everything we tried was sensational. The plantain enchiladas was a explosion of flavor. I will be raving about this place for a while!
google avatar

Glory F.

Yelp
La Pitahaya was my first stop in Mexico City and it was just what I needed. After a long plane flight, this food tasted fresh and tasty. I started with the creamy cauliflower soup and had the Potato-stuffed enchiladas for my main course, with golden milk too! I'm so pleased with this little all Vegan cafe! Everything about it was just perfect.
google avatar

Jeffrey J.

Yelp
Our friend suggested this place and it did not disappoint! We tried one of each taco and every one of them had a distinct and unique flavor, and my taste buds were dancing! Highly recommend trying this place to nourish your body and soul! This place really makes it easy to imagine living vegan.
google avatar

Carina B.

Yelp
SUCH GOOD VEGAN FOOD! We were glad to find a vegan restaurant for our friend while visiting. I ordered the golden milk tea, this was great for my tummy, it was feeling a little iffy from vacation. My friends had the dragon fruit lemonade, it was good! I had 3 tacos , the cauliflower, the mushroom al Pastor, and the tofu. All were delicious and vegan. The service was great, and we were glad the staff could speak some english to help us a bit.
google avatar

Daniel C.

Yelp
This place is incredible. Great option for English on the menu and the food was outstanding. Easily could have had 3 more tacos, will be back again this week!
google avatar

Bianca G.

Yelp
I'm so glad out of our huge list of vegan spots to hit in CDMX that we decided on having dinner at La Pitahaya! Had the guacamole and 3 tacos; which were afreakinmazing. So much flavor packed into the food & the tortillas - my goodness were absolutely phenomenal. If you are in town, be sure to satisfy your vegan soul with this tasty restaurant :)
google avatar

Erika O.

Yelp
Everything we ordered was delicious. We're planning to go back. The tortillas are so good. We had every dessert they have in the menu, they were the best vegan dessert I ever had.
google avatar

Raunak S.

Yelp
By far the best vegetarian tacos in mexico ! Loved those pink tacos and do try their mushroom tacos
google avatar

Peter O.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious, creative soul and body nourishing vegan food; even my omnivorous wife gave the food the highest compliments. They are part of the latest wave of vegan food that is soy and gluten free. My favorite was probably the enfrijoladas with garbanzo bean chorizo - wow! It is indeed a small space but they were still able to accommodate our group of 6. If you have a baby note that they do not have high chairs or a changing table. The owner is passionate, kind, and accommodating.
google avatar

Gaelen X.

Yelp
A tiny spot that has delicious, creative vegan food and an extremely friendly staff. Sit out front on a warm day and enjoy the sidewalk garden while you eat. Don't miss the jamaica agua fresca!
google avatar

Emily L.

Yelp
Beautifully decorated spot, and fantastic, fresh vegan food! Tried their tamales, and a variety of tacos. The flavors were phenomenal - expert use of ingredients. I'm still dreaming about the cauliflower taco! I can't wait to return in the future.
google avatar

Linda S.

Yelp
The food here was excellent! Imaginative combinations of flavors and textures, and everything was vegan and gluten free. The folks serving were lovely--very friendly and happy to discuss their approach to vegan food. If you are looking for innovative, plant-based Mexican food, don't hesitate to try La Pitahaya!
