"La Poblanita is another grocery store and restaurant mix. It is one of the few places in the Twin Cities where you can get fresh masa for tortillas or tamales. Stop by there during lunch to try one of their guisados, which are home-cooked dishes that usually involve meat or veggies cooked in a variety of sauces." - Adrian Diaz

I worked with a blind individual at a previous job as a social worker and this place would give him free food, the staff are so nice and helpful and my dad tried his first ever elote of his life here, which was so good he wanted to make them at home. Tacos are always good and I also liked the torta cubano

Would not recommend to come eat here. First of all parking is terrible. You will end up walking a block to get there. Cashier was very serious, absolutely no customer service at all. I had to wait at least 20 minutes for a simple order. Upon receiving my food all the lettuce was on the side of the food getting everything wet. Unfortunately, the cheap material sticked to the food as you can see on the pictures. Sad to say the food went to waste. Please don’t waste your time or money coming here.

My family has been going to this place since I was very little I can honestly remember I was probably 10 maybe 11 at the most, and we would go here because the food was always super good back in the day. I think they used to do buffet like I think, but every single year they manage to get bad worse and horrible. The place is never cleaned the people they are super mean. The food quality is just starting to get bad. I’m bad I’m bad I’m bad. What is this? For sure not memelitas or picaditas not even sopes and the amount of sauce that was added to this they could’ve asked me if I wanted extra sauce I would’ve gladly said yes, and the onion, I like onion, I think onion is very important in traditional dishes. It gives it an extra sweet and tingly taste, I honestly continue to have hope for this restaurant because it does remind me of my childhood, but that I think that’s enough 🥲🥲🥲

Discovered this gem on the lake st taco tour, and this was by far our favorite stop! The seasoning and cook on the pastor meat was out of this world good, and the tortillas were game-changingly fresh and warm. Fantastic salsa too! Don't let the construction out front dissuade you from trying out this amazing taqueria.

Google
Very tasty authentic Mexican food! Their chips and tacos are very good, entirely different than anything you'd get at a normal American Mexican restaurant

Google
Great Fresh Tortillas. Hot, fresh tortillas for my catering events 👍👍👍. They cook and grained their own corn for mass to make tortillas, sopes, tamales and much more!!!

Yelp
Nothing was completely inedible, but this was far from great. Basically: not enough flavor! Tacos de asada were minimally seasoned, thank goodness they came with salsa. Torta was missing the jalapenos, meat did not have any seasoning (I had to add SALT for goodness sake), and meat was super tough, couldn't bite through it. Do you even marinate, bro? Beans were similarly bland, which my Americanized kiddo loved, I did not. Definitely not on my re-order list, so many other good Latin options in the city.

Yelp
So dissatisfied & disappointed called the restaurant they don't care No Verde sauce in my enchiladas so dry corn tortillas & steak too much Ordered taco combo which I guess they don't sell but it's in the menu!

Justin R.

Yelp
I Ordered a quesadilla with stake and and wen I got the quesadilla it had not stake I do not recommend this place

Kathryn H.

Yelp
I ordered this on uber eats and was very disappointed. The chimichanga was just a soggy mess with lukewarm cheez--no toppings what so ever. The same to same of the chips and "queso"

Angela F.

Yelp
Ordered through Uber Eats. I was craving something authentic and this place really hit the spot! I'm so glad I discovered it. Definitely will order it again. The portion sizes are great too! I got the chilaquiles, pork tamales, and carnitas sopes.

Adriana G.

Yelp
Chilaquiles are way too spicy. Salsa doesn't have good flavor. Rude cashier. Warm horchata.

John C.

Yelp
Enjoyed the Quesadilla and the Fajitas Vallarja. A little place with big dishes and flavor. A favorite with lots of communities with some unique specialties!

Yelp
This is a sleeper, from the outside it doesn't look like much. Once inside, it doesn't look like much. But the food is very good. They make their own tortillas, they are thicker and taste better than the run of a mill tortillas. I live to find places like this for lunch, I work all over (construction) and look for good food, plentiful fast and cheap. A bonus is there is a store attached to this restaurant so you can pickup a few things, including beverage, while waiting for your food. I am usually alone, but this time I was with the wife and our youngest boy. The booth was a little small for us and the food. We got a burrito, chimichanga and quesadilla for the little guy. $25 and only I could clean my plate. All was great and not too picante for the wife and boy. The quesadilla used their home made tortilla. May 2015, upped them to five stars based on my broadening visits to Mexican hole in the wall kind of places. It doesn't hurt that the owner commented, shows they care. Love this place, I haven't been there for diner, I work down that way a lot, but would like to.

Yelp
The person who takes the order all the time is angry and they give you faces to make only the food if it is rich but the very bad treatment I hope the owners worry about talking with their employees two teach them manners I hope this one day change because the food very Good but very bad service .

Javi G.

Yelp
Very close to being authentic Mexican food. Food isn't the best of the best but it's tasty and inexpensive. Overall the food is good but what really grinds my gears? The uncleanliness of this place....Restroom is horrible and they don't care if it's clean... There's food and crumbs still in the table or underneath the table when you try to find a spot...at some point they forget to use gloves and one lady has fungus in her finger. Grossed me out.

Lorraine T.

Yelp
Really good! Big portions, very tasty. Got the cheese enchiladas with the green sauce. Came with a nice helping of salad, rice and beans (whole beans, not re-fried). The chicken tings taco was delicious and the huarache --- very filling. Ordered 2 tamales and cheese tlacoyo; but that review has to wait till leftovers. We will definitely order again. Why 4 not 5 stars? Saw on another review that the limes were dry. And yes, they were! By the way, the red hot sauce is super hot!

Brittanie M.

Yelp
Ordered through Door Dash for $3. I got the Tacos Duros combination plate (taco, 2 rolled tacos, and a tostada) which was perfect and a quesadilla. The quesadilla wasn't like what I'm used to - it was more like a larger taco with meat, lettuce, and sour cream on a folded tortilla and had mozzarella and cotija cheeses. I wasn't really a fan of the flavors but it was obviously all homemade and fresh. I also ordered a side of tortillas that came freshly made. I did not receive the side of guacamole I ordered, but it wasn't worth contacting them or Door Dash about it. Overall, a great choice for Mexican food in Minneapolis but not a new favorite.

Kaylie S.

Yelp
We just moved to the Minneapolis area and were so happy to find this place. The food is authentic and delicious! Food was cheap, delivery was fast and there was so much food we only ate about half of it and had the rest for lunch the next day.

Yelp
La Poblanita is just around the corner from me. I went there with a few friends one night and it was ok by me. I am a frequenter of a wide variety of the various Mexican restaurants in South Minneapolis. That said, La Poblanita falls smack-dab in the middle of the delicioso-spectrum for me. I had a vegetarian burrito, which is the main staple of my diet. My friends had the sopes and a carne asada burrito. It was obvious from first glance that burritos are not their strong suit. They offer the option of a "wet burrito" which means pouring some kind of sauce over the top before serving. Sometimes this action can make a mighty tasty burro but in this case it just sogged up the tortilla as well as the paper in the basket it was served in (ew). The taste was fine but I couldn't make a good assessment since I spent most of my dinnertime trying to avoid ingesting green-and-white-checked bits of paper. I'm sure eating paper never caused anybody serious gastronomical problems but I wasn't about to take the chance. It was obvious that sopes (aka picaditas aka tlacoyos aka huaraches in some cases) were their strong-suit. My friend had a vegetarian version and they were perfect--plump, flavorful, and loaded with toppings like peppers, mushrooms, onoins, and sauce. They may have music some nights since the night we were there, there was a ranchera-style band practicing in the corner. At least I hope they were practicing, with all the starting and stopping and restarting they were doing. It could be a great scene in there, with the music going, the painted walls, and some grub. Also, the prices were right up my alley: cheap cheap cheap! I'll go again but next time I'm sticking with sopes.

Yelp
This is listed as a bakery but its a Mexican restaurant. La Poblanita is near my house so I thought I'd try it since I'm looking for some good and decently priced Mexican fare. While I had some very delicious potato flautas my friend had a veggie burrito and I swear the veggies were a can of "veg-all" - kinda gross. They have delicious Orchata, but we also ordered the queso fundido and the cheese wasn't right at all. We would probably have fared better if we weren't both vegetarian as they don't have much on the menu that isn't meaty. I plan on coming back for breakfast some time and seeing how that is, but I probably won't return for dinner.

Yelp
Very good food! I tried the tacos, tostada and tamale and all three were very good. The flavors complimented each other and the steak in the tacos was cooked to perfection. I will order from again!

Sanchez B.

Yelp
Very close to being purely authentic! Down to the 2 tortillas per taco! Tacos were fantastic(despite the limes being the driest I've ever seen). Quesadilla was ok, it was a little dry, but really nice taste. Nachos and burrito were both amazing, the burrito being absolutely huge in size and flavor. I work very close to here and couldn't be happier seeing as they deliver. The salsa verde was very tastey, the salsa roja was pretty much all heat, but that's coming from someone who isn't even slighty fond of spicy. All in all, I think the place is amazing and they will be getting a great deal of business from me!

Jay G.

Yelp
Order on the Yelp app, it was fast delivery and good tasting food. Will be ordering from them and using the app next time! I ordered the tacos and nachos both where good.

Bright S.

Yelp
Went to the one in St Paul. Super ghetto, got looked up and down multiple times and felt unsafe. However, the service was fast and polite, and the food was extremely good and tasted like authentic Mexican food.

Andrew B.

Yelp
Ordered delivery from them and a bicycle guy pulled up. It took about an hour but my food was hot, so I suppose it was the restaurant preparation time. And wow, every moment they spent was worth it. I ordered the Quesadilla Frita and Huaraches. The taste was fresh, authentic and just the perfect level of spice. The amount of the portions were huge compared to the price. I had enough left over for lunch the next day. Will order again!

Anna D.

Yelp
Ordered for delivery. Restaurant just 10 minutes away. Said food would arrive in 45-60 minutes. Arrived almost 90 minutes later. Coffee wasn't hot. Food was good. Make sure you request utensils if you're at a hotel. Telling them you're at a hotel isn't enough.

Yelp
I love mexican food. Usually when I have a craving, I'll just drive up and down Lake St. until I find a restaurant that looks promising. Stumbling upon Taqueria La Poblanta has been one of my greatest finds. The chips and salsa that they give you to start out your meal with aren't that great. The chips are dense, kind of hard and sort of stale. The salsa isn't that great in flavor. Both of which surprise me because the taco shells they use are fantastic and the salsa/hot sauce they bring out to put on your food is great. The salsa they bring with your food comes in two different squirt bottles; doesn't seem that appealing, but both of those salsas are great. I tend to get the Vikings Nachos with chicken and a horchata to wash it down with. The horchata is amazing and does a really good job of putting out your hot-stuff-mouth-fire that you get from your food. The amount that you get for food is crazy! The vikings nachos are only $8, but it's enough for 3 people to eat. I always have leftovers for atleast one more meal. $8!!! Awesome recession food. Haha The veggies on the vikings nachos has always been crisp and fresh, good colors. They use alot of cilantro, which I love, personally. I've had friends come along and get burritos and fajitas and quesadillas and whatnot, and from what they say, their food experiences were great. I like the interior decor. There are painted murals, large pictures, fake flowers, and a tv with spanish soap operas blaring out into the dining area. Everything to give you the 'real feel' for a little restaurant in Mexico. :) Staff is decent, depending. I've had both good and bad experiences there. Overall the greatness of the food is such that I would put up with a not-so-good waitress. Not to mention their fantastic prices. It's definatly worth checking out, I'd say it's one of my favorite mexican restaurants I've eaten at so far up here.

Yelp
I stopped at this restaurant as I cruised up and down lake street on a humid blistering hot Sunday afternoon. There is a myriad of Mexican restaurants on Lake Street. I decided to stop at La Poblanita because they served "huaraches," that intrigued me!! The last tlacoyo or huarrache, as it's more commonly known, I had was in Mexico City five years ago. I ordered two carne asada huaraches they looked scrumptious!! CHIPS & SALSA- nothing spectacular salsa needed salt, and chips are store bought. If you are a tortilleria you should definitely have freshly made and fried tortilla chips!!! HORCHATA - Decent, nice flavor! HUARACHE - The had the right shape!! Made with white corn (blue corn is common in Mexico City) The beans inside were over dry. The carne asada had good flavor!!! But it's carne asada onions and peppers mixed with the meat????? It's carne asada I have never ever had carne asada with onion and peppers mixed in!!! Overall it was okay, however not a single item stood out.

Yelp
I ordered delivery, which included cheese enchiladas, and they brought chicken enchiladas instead. When I called to get it fixed, I first had to explain to three different employees what had happened. They then said they would call me back, and 20 minutes later did so. I requested replacement enchiladas, and they said "Well, the minimum delivery is $20." (What??? I already made an order of over $20 and it was wrong, common courtesy is to re-deliver.) They THEN said they couldn't do it because their delivery driver was on another delivery and they would just refund me instead (haven't seen the refund come through yet so we'll see if I have to follow up). I just wanted the food I ordered!

Jim S.

Yelp
Good food, friendly owners...great place for my taco fix. Love their carnitas and huaraches. Tortillas dont get any fresher. Try the blue corn tortillas...made en casa.

Renee B.

Yelp
Gross. We ordered through door dash. The chicken flautas tasted at least a day old. The quesadilla was a whole wheat tortilla. NEVER AGAIN. The dishes had tons of lettuce & tomato on them, shity camaflouge for even shittier food. Thumbs down all around.

Garry C.

Yelp
Ordered for delivery. Food was not great. Everything tasted stale. We had Tamales that were both dry and flavorless. A shrimp dish called Camerones a la Diabla. It was very hot but the shrimp were not very fresh. Overall, not a very good experience and would not recommend.

Jr W.

Yelp
Ordered delivery... Oops. Should've just thrown the $40 into the toilet. The bike delivery guy was nice. The food was inedible.

Aaron B.

Yelp
Great cheap, authentic, tasty tacos, the horchata looks pretty good to, I'll have to give it a go next time.

K B.

Yelp
Ordered for the first time today and was horribly disappointed. Everything tasted and smelled like what I imagine 30 year aged dirty socks would be like. Will never make the mistake of blowing $30 like this again.

Karla A.

Yelp
I gave it 3 stars because I've always enjoyed their food, but today I found 3 hairs and 1 rubber band in our food. They've got yummy food, but eat at your own risk.

Chuck H.

Yelp
Ordered online from grub hub and I gotta say this place really needs to get it together. Half the order was missing and it tasted like garbage, never again guys...great job on fucking up!
