La Popular Porter Ranch

I was hungry for some enchiladas and this place had them in a area I frequently visit for the movies. The servings are small even the enchiladas. I did their combo plate even on their taco Tuesdays. My drink was cactus Pier and palm agua fresca for $6.50 in a small glass. I didn't ask if could get free refills for that price. I do plan on going one last time to try one more food item. Next time I'll stick with water or soda. Not bad if you don't mind small portions if you on a diet.

Had a few friends suggest trying La Popular. I had chicken and shrimp fajitas and they were quite delicious! The chips and salsa are very good! Staff very friendly and courteous. We had an early dinner so wasnt crowded. Highly suggest trying this place. It really was delicious!

I dined here on a Tuesday night, and it was a lovely experience. There was even a DJ, which was a nice surprise for a weekday. The restaurant was quite busy, and despite not having a reservation, they seated us inside and took our order right away.

While this restaurant has a nice ambiance, I was so deeply disappointed in their portion sizes. Now, although I understand restaurants have become quite pricey over the years, I cannot understand how this fajita combo plate ($34) is justified with a tiny piece of chicken and a tiny piece of steak. Insult to injury, it was served with two pieces of corn tortillas and one piece of flour tortilla. After making the manager aware of our issue, she simply told us to order more food next time. Overall, this restaurant may look nice but the service and the food portions are NOT worth it. Very disappointed. You be the judge. Does this look worth $34?

Queso Fundido with chorizo is a great starter. Kind of like make-your-own quesadillas with the included corn and flour freshly made tortillas. The Torta ribeye was ok but a bit on the dry side. For dessert, we had the churros that were perfect! Warm and crunchy. The caramel and chocolate dips were very good. Service is very good! Our server constantly checked up on us if we needed anything. Even the manager was going around the tables and came around our table to ask if everything was ok.

*Delayed post from June ‘25 What a fun date night spot! This Mexican restaurant is located in an outdoor mall with water features and grape vines, a movie theater, and plenty of shopping opportunities with a massive parking lot. We were given the option to sit outside, but unfortunately their patio is enclosed, so you can’t enjoy the outside breeze and it feels significantly hotter than the surrounding area. The inside however is a total vibe with low lighting from table tea lights, plant walls and vibrant blue neon signs. There are lounge chairs/sofas, a bar, booths and regular tables to choose from for every occasion, with lo-fi techno and EDM thump tracks playing in the background. Food-wise, everything was a hit, though some adjustments could be made here and there. The chips and salsa were really good, featuring a slightly chunkier salsa that’s smoky and slightly spicy. The tortilla chips are really thin, crispy and freshly fried, though we found out they don't make their tortillas in-house, so they probably just cut and fry them from a preferred brand. They aren’t salted, which normally I would argue should be a given, but it allows the salsa to shine. The Corn Off the Cob Salad was the best discovery in my opinion because it presented familiar flavors and textures in a new and balanced way! It’s topped with a parmesan and ground chili mix that traditionally coats elote, which complements the heavy lime dressing and chunks of creamy avocado really well, and corn nuts for an added crunch. The banana peppers and raw onions add a nice spicy kick over mild greens and a slight bitterness from the arugula. The queso fundido is served in a very shallow pan, which allows more of the cheese to crisp up on the bottom, while the top is broiled. The corn tortillas served on the side have an unexpected coat of sweetness. The rice was unexpectedly spicy, but still tasty. The shrimp in the fajitas were juicy and cooked well, but the chipotle sauce on top overpowers all other flavors on the plate. The steak was nothing special, but thankfully not overcooked or dry. The onion and peppers really brought the fajitas together with a caramelization that made them soft, yet still had a bite.

A simple statement, "you can take any seat around the bar, except the high tops". That's all it took to ruin a dining experience at this restaurant. When my wife and I walked into the restaurant, the hostess girl told us exactly that. So naturally, we walked around the bar area and found an open table that was not a high top. We sat down, took out jackets off and got comfortable. A few minutes passed and the same hostess girl came to our table and let us know we couldn't sit there. According to her, the table was reserved and being held for someone else despite zero signage or visual management being placed on the table. She then advised us we would need to be placed on the waiting list and we would have a table available in 10 minutes. I provided my name and number to her so we could lock in our spot. We waited patiently outside for 10 minutes, no text message confirming our place on the list was sent or a message letting us know our table was ready. We did notice several parties entering and being seated immediately. So we decided to have another chat with the hostess. The hostess did a fantastic job of giving us attitude with a condescending tone. She also tried gas lighting us on how we were wrong to interpret her initial statement about tables being available to sit at. She even went on to say, "for future reference" as if she was providing us some kind of top tip to crack the hostess code for self seating in the bar area. Needless to say, our dining experience was tainted at that point. We decided to leave the restaurant at that point. La Popular provides the illusion of a great dining experience with its lighting, ambiance, and previous reviews. But that's all you get, an illusion. The food is very overpriced, the portions are tiny, the taste of the food is just OK and you just get the feeling that the restaurant is trying too hard to be "authentic Mexican food." Trust me, the tacos you get from a stand on Sherman Way have tons of more flavor than the over engineered tacos you get here. If you're really looking for the same taste and flavor as this place, I think you can experience it for significantly less by driving down the 101 and going to Los Agaves in Thousand Oaks. Will I visit this restaurant again in the future? Who knows. But it definitely won't be for a while and hopefully the management can turn this place around. Because, for the amount of money you spend here, the experience is lackluster. This restaurant does not deserve to be in the ranks of other restaurants who truly earned their Michelin stars. Oh, and of your wondering still. I never got a text that my table was available.

I brought my mom to this restaurant and she really liked it. It has a contemporary vibe. The food is delicious but the entrees aren't very big. I ordered a make your own 3 entree meal that included an enchilada, a 2 steak tacos. The appetizer I ordered was delicious. It was guacamole with steak chicharon. I ordered a mocktail Chile pineapple Mango virgin margarita it was delicious. My mom had the carne asada plate so delicious. The service was great our server was friendly and we got our food pretty quick. Portions are a bit smaller so we had room for dessert we ordered the churros also delicious.

We ordered the pineapple and mango aqua Fresca, veggie tacos and the enchiladas. Everything was fresh and delicious. Great service too!

This place is great! The food, the atmosphere and service were all to notch. Definitely making this a frequent spot. Oh and the drinks, especially the Carajillo, if you like coffee flavored drinks

What a treat, great spot located in Porter ranch. Brought our buddy for his birthday for lunch. We ordered carne asada plate and chile releno. Place looks great and very roomy. Only thing I would suggest which we didn't know, I made reservations and they seated us while it wasn't busy on east side of restaurant which is not main dining area. Food was delicious and cooked well. We got guacamole and queso pondido cheese appetizer. Our service was on point and knowledgeable about the menu. Definitely a go to again spot for us, I heard peak hours waits are over two hours so possibly try and dodge those times. Make a reservation regardless !

Service was SLOW. I think our party was there for 2 hours, not by choice. They just never gave us the check for a really long time. We had to get up and pay directly to them so we can leave. Food was ok. I'm vegetarian so I didn't expect anything too spectacular. I ordered cheese enchiladas. They were yummy. The drinks REALLY disappointed me. I came here specifically for that jellyfish bubble cocktail drink. They literally gave it to me without the bubble. She knew that was the only reason I ordered it. She just said their machine isn't working... and expected me to take this drink? No. I don't want it. I'm surprised she even brought it to the table. She should have asked me if I still wanted it, not expect me to take it. This place is overpriced and overrated.

Our experience at La Popular wasn't the best, though I'd be willing to give it another try. Despite having a reservation, we still waited about 15 minutes to be seated. After finally sitting down and placing our order, we were asked to switch tables to accommodate a larger party. We agreed, not realizing this would lead to further issues. Unfortunately, our drinks never arrived, and our food took a very long time. By the time we reminded the server about our drinks for the second time, we'd already finished our food. We ordered the Enchiladas Blancas and the Al Pastor Tacos, both of which tasted good but came in very small portions, leaving us still hungry. Overall, it wasn't a great experience, but I'd be open to trying it again to see if it improves.

I would like to say so much better!! This second time around completely changed my perspective to La Popular! we made late night reservations this time. we checked in and were promptly escorted to our table. we were seated towards the bar side. the decor on this side is a lot better that the other side. it was so nice and pretty! so much green/plants. you have to try their ceviche!! I've never had such a delicious ceviche at a Mexican restaurant. this one exceed all my expectations. such delicious salsas to come with it! Props to the cooks in the back! the tampiquena was so good to! our meat was cooked just right! perfect cheese enchiladas with their sauce! and by popular demand we had their flan once again! oh so yummy!! seriously major improvement from my last experience!! cant wait to be back for that ceviche!!

Never been here before. I took my employee out for lunch and he chose La popular. It was highly recommended by him so thought I'd give it a try. I recommend the Queso Fundido with bacon. Super tasty! The fish tacos were really good! I don't recommend the combo tacos. Kinda small, dry with no toppings. Service was excellent! Ambiance is really nice. I recommend this high end Mexican Restaurant.

Figured I'd leave an updated review since the first one was when they first opened! Great food and service as per usual. Sometimes it gets busy and the waiter/waitress may be MIA for a bit but that's typical for any restaurant. Finally got to dine in the patio area which is nice and still enclosed away from the public. They also have their TVs from the bar to face some outside towards the patio. They have very nice patio seating! Shoutout to our waiter Juan! He's served us a few times now and always gets our order right. He also checks in frequently and will get you what you need! Excellent spot and I always recommend it to friends and family. The blancas enchiladas will always be my go to but also been getting their chips and guac with chicharonnes. The pineapple mango agua Fresca is perfection! You can even add vodka to it if you'd like. Been here a few times now and have to say it just gets better and better. Dined in the outdoor patio area tonight and it was so beautiful! Really transports you to another place, such nice decor. Our waitress Abby was such a delight. She had the best recommendations, energy, and just was an all around perfect addition to a great time. The food was great! I got the Blancas enchiladas pastor as always but we also got the nachos to start which were so good and layered perfectly. The tacos were also really tasty. We also got a few salsas and all of them were very flavorful! One was their spiciest flavor and I really enjoyed that. I had wine but my friend got the spicy margarita and both drinks were perfection. Overall, this place is a gem and I'm slowly becoming a regular.

It has many reasons to be popular in my book. Food here was like if you mixed authentic Mexican food with authentic Mexican food and it tasted better than anything the local abuealitos can make. Prices were fair Ambiance was above average And service was exceptionally nice even when you're a complete non sense person like me :)

Lunches in at La Popular and I can confidently say it was an exceptional experience. The food was simply outstanding, with several dishes that truly stood out. The guacamole with chicharrón was the perfect blend of flavors and textures, and the aguachiles were fresh and full of flavor. But the highlight for me was the Al Pastor enchiladas--rich, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. In fact, all of their enchiladas were fantastic, each one prepared to perfection. The service was also superb. Our server, Milad, was very attentive and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the meal. His recommendations were spot on, and his attention to detail really elevated our experience. The ambiance of the restaurant was just as impressive, with a warm and inviting atmosphere that made for a wonderful dining experience. Between the incredible food, Milad's excellent service, and the beautiful ambiance, I'll definitely be returning. Highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a memorable meal! This is the place for lunch meetings either in the afternoon or dinner! Always coming back. Thank you again Milad K. The BEST!

I love the way this restaurant made me feel when I walked in. It's moody, it's classy, it's very cool. Everything that we ordered was delicious. From the appetizers to our mains to our cocktail. I forgot our servers name but she was so patient with us. The cocktail she recommended was Las perlas and now that might be my new favorite drink. (Shout out to the bartender) This is a perfect restaurant for date night. Can't wait to tell my friends and I look forward to coming back.

We went there for the happy hour and had skinny margaritas and tried a few of the menu options. Include guacamole, a queso fundido. They were all good a bit heavy in cheese but good! The drinks are all yum and pretty heavy for the happy hour but we liked it overall. The staff was super fast and nice. It tool a while till the waitress greeted us but after that it went pretty fast. The black inspiration is also cool.

What a great restaurant! Went to dinner for a friends birthday. The atmosphere is festive. Service is great! We each ordered something different from chicken mole, shrimp tacos to enchiladas. All delicious! And the drinks are wonderful by the way.

My first time visiting this establishment. It was a busy Friday night. It took a little long to be seated. Apparently they had called us when the table became available, but the cell phone service was weak, and we waited outside in the cold for longer than necessary. Maybe pagers for seating might help. Our hostess was friendly and welcoming. Our server Mario was the same. We got good service. The atmosphere was lively. The place was nice, kinda classy. Casual attire is appropriate, but the atmosphere was not too shabby. Was kinda bummed I couldn't get the Mexican coffee cocktail I wanted because of some odd detail about the bar not being "an open bar". So I just cancelled the order and asked for a regular coffee. My server made a recommendation for a substitute, and I accepted. When I got the recommended cocktail, I sensed it was a cold beverage but I was asking for a hot coffee cocktail. My server apologized, and let me keep the cocktail and waived the cost. It was actually a tasty drink, just not the hot cocktail I was craving for a chilly Friday night after waiting outside in the cold for longer than necessary. My coffee was hot, but not very tasty. I acknowledge that people don't typically order coffee on a Friday night, but that's the part of the difference between 4 and 5 stars. My blanco enchiladas were SO GOOD. MOUTHWATERING. Everyone I came with was pleased with the food. My Father complained about the snug seating. He didn't feel like he had much space. He definitely kept stepping on my shoes under the table, and he said it was irritating how much his seat moved based on the movements of the people in the booth behind him. He was pretty irritated. La Popular is pretty popular. Full house, seating was not easy, but not impossible. Reservations are not possible, so you have to be present to request a table. The shopping center itself is huge with many seductive businesses. There's a play area outside for kids that looked very popular too. Large parking lot. The entire shopping center is definitely worth coming back for. And I look forward to my next visit to La Popular.

Aguachile 5/5 Ceviche 4/5 Steak nachos 5/5 Ribeye taco 4/5 Churros 5/5 ----- Arrived on a Saturday night and was quoted a wait time of 15-20 minutes, but was seated within 8 minutes! Talk about fast service! We were greeted by Adriana who took our drinks order, but took some time before we could catch her again to place our actual order in. I'm assuming it was a pretty busy night for them because after we received our aguachile, ceviche, and steak nachos we were told the rib eye tacos would arrive shortly, but it never did. Until about maybe 30 minutes later we realized it still had not arrive and decided we were too full to eat anymore. Tried catching Adriana again and when we finally did and told her about the rib eye tacos she seems confused that we didn't receive it yet. Nonetheless, we reassured her it's okay if it was forgotten because we were already getting full, but she was quick to point out that she can see it in the window and will bring it out shortly. My friend who dined with me usually eats here often and raves about this place so I'm just assuming it was an off day for them. Will definitely be back to try more items off their menu.

My friend and I went for lunch on a whim. Got good reviews so we decided to try. Very nice, quiet ambiance. Very good authentic Mexican food! Smaller portions but delicious! I had steak Fajitas and she had Blancas pollo enchiladas. Everything was so good! Rice and beans on point, salsa delicious and fresh. Hot salsa with the meal had perfect flavor and heat. 10/10 Service was great. Our waitress was a blond lady, don't remember her name. Super friendly and accommodating. Even the servers and clearers were super nice. I highly recommend!

First time here at La popular! Upon arriving we didn't have a reservation. But despite that we were still seated immediately which i was absolutely grateful for because I came in starving ! I was craving some fish tacos so I ordered the Baja fish tacos. Some of the best fish tacos I've ever had hands down. Guacamole with chicharron was devoured within the first five mins it arrived lol we also ordered mango pineapple agua Fresca & a passion fruit guava ??? I think was the second drinks name. Anyways mine was great and refreshing but my bfs tasted a bit watered down or maybe it was just me. Now for the main course we got the tortilla soup with its fixins on the side. Had chicken inside kinda taste like mole it was delicious. My bf got the campechana enchiladas he ate everything lol. The only thing I'd say we didn't really enjoy were the rice and beans on the side. Such a tiny portion of each. The beans tasted like they came out of the can. All in all our first time experience was great! To eat here is a little bit more on the pricier side so if we can come back we will!

La Popular is the Mexican restaurant at the Vineyards in Porter Ranch. This locale has several superb eateries, but La Popular has an atmosphere like no other. The inside has a romantic ambiance, dim lighting, a nice selection of tunes in the background and ....good food. The menu is limited, but covers the bases. It is one of my favorite places to come to, when I need to chill out. One thing to keep in mind is that the place is loud, always full of people and when I was there, understaffed. The servers were running around and abruptly delivering orders, forgetting about the important touch, of customer empathy and service. After the complimentary chips and salsa, I had the Al Pastor tacos. It came as four small tacos, well prepared, with a fresh flavor and taste. The tortillas were perfectly done and married well with the rest of the ingredients. Definitely a restaurant that has to be on the "to return" list, for any incurable foodie.

There was no wait when we arrived here, but it was still pretty busy. We got sat & ordered two mules, it was great. Then we ordered the tacos combo & it comes with rice & beans. The tacos were absolutely amazing & packed with flavor & the guac sauce that came with it was an additional flavor boost. The rice & beans were also amazing, & I would definitely recommend this plate to eat if you're ever there. The dodger game was on, the pressure was there & the food was putting it all together for a great experience. I will be back.

I believe this place is pretty new in the area. It's located by Gus's BBQ. The interior is airy and very modern looking. There's a good size bar with about 4 large TV's. They also having a dining area that we sat at. The complimentary chips and salsa was pretty good. The chips tasted like they were made in house. The salsa was pretty good also, however, it was served in a small bowl. I wish more Mexican restaurants would serve their salsas in a larger bowl. I hate having to ask for more salsa. It should at least be enough to finish the chips. The food and service was good. I would definitely come back here for that. However, the drinks was not up to par. I got the margarita flight and all of the drinks was on the bitter side. I didn't bring it up to our server because I didn't want to bother her. I think the lemon juice might have been a few days old as it didn't have fresh taste to it. I would like to come back and try out their Happy Hour menu.

Had a family gathering and we decided to choose this spot for a group of 19 people. We were able to make a reservation and get seated in the outside. Lots of space for us to sit and talk. Lots of parking as well in the vineyards. The service was great and attentive. The prices were moderate too as the bill for 19 people came out to less than $600. Which sounds like a lot but we ordered appetizers and alcohol on top of the food. So all in all a welcome addition to the vineyards and a nice spot for some good Mexican food.

Recommend to anyone who is looking for a modern Mexican dining in the area.

Decided to try this spot out for dinner while on a business trip and I was not disappointed. The ambiance was nice, service AMAZING, and the Al Pastor tacos were chef kiss . I opted to not partake in an "adult" beverage, but LISTEN the Pineapple Mango Fresca did not skip a beat. It was crafted perfectly. I'd definitely double back here!!

Yesterday was my third time coming here. The first time the food was just blah but the guacamole was really good. It has a nice atmosphere and the drinks are good. They also have an excellent selection of tequila which is a plus for me. The second time a friend wanted to try it so I went with her. My feelings about the place were the same as the first time. Went back yesterday and ordered chicken tacos which were actually not bad. I also ordered nachos but they were just ok. I want to like this place because it does have a good vibe with the people and good drinks but my issue is the service. The first two times they were very inattentive at the bar. Yesterday, we had Adrian. He was great, very attentive, and made some delicious cocktails. It was busy and he did not let the crowd affect his pace. I could overhear him telling some of the other staff about people who needed to be attended to. His shift was eventually over and things went downhill from there. He actually stayed a little longer after cashing us out because he was helping one of his peers with customers. He made us one more drink and rang us up for Jason. Well Jason never said a word to us. The only reason I know a name is because that's the name that was on the receipt. Eventually I asked another person on the bar staff name Manny if someone can take our order. He made a comment saying Jason should be helping us but went ahead and took our orders, cashed us out, and never said another word to us. When I'm sitting at the bar, I plan to continue ordering drinks. Manny nor Jason asked us if we wanted anything else so we went next door to another bar for drinks. If I had to rate Adrian alone, I would rate it five stars. It sucks that his counterparts suck and are the reason for such low rating.

I came here to celebrate my birthday with my family and had a great time. We started with the chips and salsa plate, which was tasty and I'd highly recommend. We also ordered the group LP margarita, which was a pitcher that served 3 drinks. This was a great option for a group. We also had the chicken nachos as a starter and they were really good. I had the quesabirria tacos as my main dish and they were the best I've ever had. They were crispy and came with consume and a side of rice and beans. I will say, everyone in my group ordered tacos and I think it's the best value because it comes with a side. 10/10 The service was 7.5/10. We had a reservation and still had to wait 10 minutes for the tables to be put together. Our drinks and starters were ordered quick but we had to wait a while to order our main dishes. I think their service will improve after some time considering they're a newer restaurant. The ambiance was my favorite. It was one of the main reasons why I chose this spot for my birthday dinner. It felt like a club inside but the music wasn't too loud where you couldn't hear each other. It feels like a nice spot for a first date or birthday, maybe not an anniversary. For sure a great happy hour spot.

I recently visited La Popular and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The service from Jasmine was absolutely amazing--prompt, friendly, and attentive without being intrusive. The cocktails were a standout, with each one crafted to perfection. They were delicious and refreshing, a perfect compliment to the meal. The chips and salsa were incredibly fresh! The tacos were of quality, bursting with flavor and generously filled. Every bite was a delight. The ambiance is both amazing and trendy, making it a great spot for a night out with friends or a special date night. The decor is modern and stylish, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. Loud music, Plenty of parking.

My husband and I were very excited to try this place since our area is lacking in modern, trendy Mexican restaurants. Initially, I was drawn to the fun, beautiful Tulum-inspired decor and vibe of the place. The service was pretty good. We got our food within 5 minutes of ordering, which was amazing! I wish our server had given us waters initially before ordering though because their pickled onions and brown salsa is spicy. Also, their water cups are wayyyy too small. I get that it's trendy now to make the glasses smaller, but if you're gonna serve spicy food, I think water service needs to be more convenient lol. My watermelon hibiscus margarita was a bit too bitter for me. Was also expecting it to come in a larger typical margarita glass with more tajin covering all sides of the rim. Other than that, it was not overly sweet or strong. As for the food, we ordered the salsa tray, guacamole, tuna tostadas, chicken Blanca enchiladas, and New York steak. Portions were a little smaller than I expected. Salsa Tray was ok. The tortilla chips were good but kinda cold and a little too thick. Would've preferred for them to be warmer and slightly thinner so they tasted fresher. The 3 salsas were good but nothing amazing. I was hoping they were chunkier; they were more of a sauce consistency. Guacamole was pretty good. It's only enough for 2 people in my opinion but flavor and consistency was great. My husband thought it needed more salt, but because the chips were salted, I thought it was perfect as is. Flavor of the tuna tostadas was really good. But they only give you two tostadas. Tuna was not chopped up; it was long slices making it a little harder to eat. I really liked the fried leeks on top and the sauce on the tuna. New York Steak was decent. It was cooked medium as requested, but it was kinda greasy. There was also too much fat on the steak that they should've trimmed off. I think they need to consider using a different cut of meat for this dish. They served a stuffed chile relleno on the side, which was my favorite thing I tried. Cooked perfectly and had delicious veggies (carrots and peppers) in it. The Blanca enchiladas were ok. It's served with 4 of them, but my husband felt it was a rather small portion size. The sauce and chicken was lacking in flavor. It also kept falling apart and was difficult to eat. I would like to come here again and try more things on the menu.

I came here with my dad for an early evening mid week dinner. My first impression upon walking in was that the place seemed really dark and the music was kind of loud. The vibe had a club scene feel to it. Our server was friendly and enthusiastic but unfortunately that couldn't make up for the so-so food. We ordered their nachos, al pastor tacos and enchiladas blancas with chicken. The serving size of the nachos was quite generous and the chips kind of reminded me of the tortilla chips from Tito's Tacos. Other than that, it was nothing to rave about. We added grilled shrimp to the nachos which added $9 to a $10 nacho dish and you only got about 6 pieces of shrimp which actually were only 3 shrimp since the pieces were sliced in half. Not worth it. The "signature live fire" Al Pastor sounded so tantalizing on the menu but didn't live up to the hype. Just surprisingly bland even with the sauce provided. The Enchiladas Blancas with pulled chicken wasn't any better than the tacos. Again surprisingly bland. I took one of the leftover enchiladas home and when I reheated it the next day, I added more cheese and some flavorful salsa on the side and it made a world of difference. Honestly I think this place is for people who want to drink alcohol and have some food to go with it and do not care too much about how the food tastes. Not my scene.

Ordered the house salad with prawns. Prawns were beyond super fishy! And it cost $8 more to add them. So for a $20 salad... it isn't worth it at all! Wife ordered the sweet potato tacos. She said they were awful. Service was bleh. I've had several mediocre or poor meals here now and so given the consistency... we won't be coming back. Ambiance is the only thing working at moment aside from the super AC blowing on the guests on the sides.

Ideally would give this place 3.5 stars primarily due to their service. The hostess that sat us was great, he was kind and approachable. Our waitress was okay, the main problem was the fact that we ordered guac with chicharones. They served plain guac to us, no problem we let them know we added the chicharrones. The problem was that they didn't bring us the correct appetizer until half way through our entrees without any reconciliation. And the chicharrones honestly didn't even taste like anything nor were they crispy. The ambiance however was really nice, food was fine nothing stand out. Unfortunate the fajitas didn't come with a side of rice. I may return to try their happy hour deals

I was really excited to try this Mexican restaurant. I have to say, the dim lighting creates a cool vibe that I really liked, but make sure to charge your phone so you can use the flashlight to read the menu! The only downside was that the music was a little too loud, so I had to raise my voice to talk to my family. Overall, the food was decent, and I enjoyed the atmosphere. I'll definitely give this place another shot!

Mexican nouveau style food. The black cutlery was a nice touch, chips and salsa are for purchase. We went with the queso fundido +chorizo, it was a solid 5 out of 10. Birria taco which was eh, cheese was scarce, needed more spice and seasoning for consomme. Chili relleno was filled with root vegetables, I was hoping for some cheese sauce was decent. Ahh the house margarita on the rocks, was one and done, needed a chaser. Not sure I'll be returning, mid grade food, service was less than attentive.

Stumbled upon this new restaurant a few months back. There was always a crowd waiting outside when I walked by and overlooked the unfamiliar name.. La Popular began in Mexico City and has a Vegas location as well as a few scattered California locations. Their cocktail game is on point with beautiful garnishments added by their mixologists. Always loud music pumping with an edgy dark interior ambience & friendly service. Great & wonderful experience each time. Food is flavorful, fresh, & beautifully plated. Honestly, I luv their street taco plate. Smaller portions with rice & beans included, but much better quality, preparation, & ingredients. Their efficient kitchen spits out orders quickly.. Best HH specials and they also offer late night HH (I have yet to check out the late night vibe). Their crunchy thick chips & salsa are addictive. I always get a refill bc I just can't stop eating them, esp with a warm bean & cheese dip. It gets crowded inside, esp on weekends. There's a covered patio dining area outside. The large impressionable bar offers televisions above to watch your favorite sports games. Perfect for your Taco Tuesday or Thirsty Thursday cravings, LoL! Cheers, xo

If you are here for drinks, snacks, and ambiance this is the place for you. The mango agua Fresca with tequila was delicious and the vibe of the restaurant was fun , lively , and upbeat. Chips and guac were good and the salsa was delicious. But the meat chicaronnes was overcooked and felt a bit tough to eat. The mains al pastor and steak fajitas were very mid. It has taste but barely any and you're truly better off going to a mom and pop Mexican place for robust flavors. Honestly chipotle has better flavor. All in all I would not come here expecting an elevated Mexican cuisine experience but if you're just coming for drinks, snacks, and vibes than this is the place for you.

A Modern, Trendy Mexican Fusion We stumbled upon this spot as a late-night resolution and immediately felt drawn by the liveliness of the restaurant. Starting off strong with the chips and guac flight, my friend and I were fascinated by the salsa toreado, which roots back from Chinese influence in the Mexican food scene (according to my research). This mysterious soy and sesame-based salsa redefined my salsa horizons by the first bite. A bonus was the mini card on the dish that listed each salsa and its spiciness level. Moving on to the next delicious bite: the ahi tuna tostada. Between the fresh slabs of ahi, slices of avocado, and crispy flakes, the entire tostada is simply satisfying. I appreciate the ratio of every ingredient. This is a great spot for a fun night with the girls. It's a very dark and loud ambiance, considering it's a sit-down restaurant. Don't take someone who's hard of hearing (sorry).

In the Porter Ranch plaza right next to Gus' BBQ is La Popular. A new look at Mexican food. A friend and I got here around 8:30pm. The place was full but no wait to sit at the bar. Getting a table would have taken under 5 min so we sat at the bar. Inside decor and atmosphere is definitely intimate and dark. But not dark in a bad way. It's open and well designed. At the bar we ordered a salsa tray, enchiladas, taco de Al pastor and some drinks. The service was quick to order but the food came out rather late. First was served the mains. Enchiladas and tacos. My enchiladas were really good. The sauce is a frijole base with deep pepper and smokiness to it. The rib eye inside was delicious too. My friends tacos were good but extremely small. Two tacos equal the size of one average street taco. The tacos come with rice and beans while the enchiladas did not? Well I tried the rice n beans and they were nothing special. Rice was good while the beans were average. We waited about 40min after our order and told the bar tender about the salsa tray didn't arrive. They said okay and punched into the ordering system. After 10+ minutes the salsa tray never arrived. We tracked down a random waiter and got our salsa. Enchiladas Campechana. Very solid choice. Good tender carne and flavors well all together. Good portion too. Missing arroz y frijol? Salsa Tray - This is the gift that keeps on giving. You get 4 salsas. The hottest one is just a marinade of onion, jalapeño or Serrano I believe and habanero. The red and green ones were not too spicy but average tasting. The salsa Torreado was very unique and amazing. This is the chipotle looking one that uses seasame oil. Delicious. You will need a few bowls of chips to get through the salsas. Michelada. Above par on this one. Cerveza was cold and went well with the mix. Wish I would have gotten more of a tajin rim but that's okay. The agua Fresca was good too. Not too sweet either. I'll most likely be coming back here as this is the best place to drink at around the Porta Ranch Plaza area. Service this time was sub par.

I've eaten her a handful of times already, both lunch and dinner, and each time I've come I enjoyed the food. There is a good selection of food and drinks. The drinks are fun. Most of their drinks are tequila/mezcal but they also have a rum option that we liked. They have 2 agua frescos that are good as is and you can also opt to add tequila. The restaurant is really popular so you should make a reservation especially if you want to get in at a decent time on the weekend. While the parking lot is huge, there are so many restaurants and shops that it fills up so depending on when you go, keep in mind time to find a parking spot. Always great service and knowledgeable servers about the menu. It's definitely a great place to go for date night or with friends.

We went here recently for a Moms night out. The vibes are definitely more on the trendy, "upscale"side. It was very busy on Friday evening. Reservations are highly suggested. Parking was pretty hard that evening too. Me and one friend got the fajitas. I asked for chicken instead of steak and they obliged. However it was just chunk chicken that you could tell came from some other meal. I probably won't get that again. In their veggie mix did the fajitas there is jalapeños, it's not possible to get it without which made it spicy. I was able to handle it without issue. But if you don't like spice, I'd say avoid this one. My other friend got the mole enchiladas which were flavorful and smoky. The chips and salsa that came before our meal were made fresh and delicious. The only problem is the salad bowl was very shallow so we had to get a couple refills. To finish off we got the churros. They were your basic churro but made fresh. We enjoyed them with the caramel and chocolate dipping sauces. Our waitress gave us a free scoop of ice cream which was sweet, literally and figuratively. ; ) I'd love to go back for a date night with my husband soon.

Most authentic tacos I've had in a while. The ceviche was very fresh and no shortage of fish. We started with guacamole and they brought fresh mini tostadas. Our waitress was incredibly attentive. I wish I would've remembered her name, but I was too busy eating. The ambience was quiet we stopped in after lunch rush- plenty of seating. The place is very aesthetically beautiful

Dined for a bday dinner. Resi was for 6:15 and we were seated around 6:25p. The place was busy in/outdoor seating. Good for large parties, us being 7 adults and a child were seated comfortably. Drinks: Forbidden Paradise Mule: 5/5 sips Hot item, tequila, pineapple, chammy, bee pollen, tastes like a refreshing Bev w/ a hint of sweetness nice alcohol ratio, it's giving Mexican candy. nice presentation Cactus Pear & Pomegranate Agua Fresca($6): Not item, 1/5 sips We spiked ours w/ house tequila (+$6) The taste was just not there, sugar rim was not it. even tried it w/out the spike and still 1.5 /5 sips. Watermelon Hibiscus Marg($14): 2/5 sips tajin rim. LP Prem Marg: 4/5 sips solid classic marg . Solid chips & salsa. 4/5 bites Food: Enchiladas Campechanas: 8/10 bites, chorizo and Steak corn tortillas, refried bean sauce, sour cream, onions and crumble cheese. these were a crowd fave. Shrimp Fajitas: 8/10 bites, served in a skillet adobo drenched shrimps, paired with a grilled veggie medley, onions and peppers. Aguachiles: 8/10 bites, I requested these extra spicy yet came w/ zero spice but they were still good. I requested the hottest salsa available it was good had a nice kick, solid dish. good quantity had a few leftover. (This is a app but I ordered as my main) Kids: Steak quesadilla, served with avocado, the kid enjoyed and had leftover. Steak fajitas: (pictured) I didn't try but he licked the plate clean lol. Apps: Queso Fundido: Cheese and chorizo melted in a skillet served w/ fresh corn tortillas. 4/5 bites Guac w/ Chicharron: 4/5 bites , served in a molcajete, this guac is tangy and the crispy chicharron bites compliment it nicely. everyone else loved the chicharron bites. didn't have dessert but they offer: Flan, Churros, and 3Leches can slice. Service was alright, but considering it was a full house, it was expected. Loud enviornment, good for celebrating, music and modern dec. Happy Hour specials 3-6 &9 to Close. Celebrated a bday and they Brought out comp ice cream. Paring can be tough but there is additional parking in the rear of the center.

Service was great Adriana was nice friendly and warm with recommendations. The food you may ask? Mediocre Americanized street tacos. Carnitas tacos full of fat so absolutely not edible. Side salad was great! I was think that was the hit of the table! Loved the fact that they catered immediately to my kids and brought some cut up fruit for them! Restaurant vibe is great! My husband enjoyed his shrimp tacos. Aguas frescas need to be worked on because they aren't really fresh waters more like ready mixed juices. Other than that, this place is really catered to porter ranch community I'll stick to my street tacos for my taco fix!

We ordered to go meals, as we saw the restaurant was crowded. The ambiance inside was really nice and had an overall good vibe. The service was also great! Unfortunately the food was not very good. I got the Al Pastor tacos and after one bite I couldn't really eat it. My husband wanted to try and he also thought the same and did not eat it. I tried his enchiladas, and they were ok and edible. The flan + icecream was really good though, so we ate those. After eating the tacos, my stomach isn't feeling the best and my husband also is having lots of indigestion. Overall will likely not return to this establishment

From my understanding this is a new place, I would think that when we walked in we would be have a warmer greeting. The decor was beautiful. The ambiance was a little blah, we went in on a Saturday morning. The food was great. My main complaint was the service. The waitress was great but we waited to have our food order taken. We actually Had to call her over. Then we waited over 30 minutes or so to pay our tab, again we had to flag someone down. We had three different people service our table. Honestly it was not busy we went in 40 or minutes or so after opening.

This place was delicious! I tried the campechano tacos and they were very tasty. I have never had a taco like that but I was glad I tried. I also tried the chipotle prawn tacos and they were also very delicious with the rice and beans in the flour tortilla. The only negative was that our waitress wasn't the most attentive and we sat for awhile waiting for the check Overall it was a great experience and I will be coming back!

Depending on what you're looking for it could be good or could be strange. Very very dark ambiance, like need a flash light to read, loud EDM music if you want to get down with your food. Small portions of just ok food. But really nice decor and club vibe for a night out for drinks

Fajitas had the extra spicy jalapeno seeds sprinkled about , Tortilla soup came with all the fixings.

We were trying to figure out lunch and this place was splendid. We were greeted warmly, served attentively and the libations were artistic and elevated. Salsa is smoky and flavorful. The guacamole was creamy and fresh and the food was delicious. I'd say prices are mid range. I hope you enjoy and I look forward to coming back to try more things.
