The menu stays true to classic French fare. The escargots were excellent, rich, tender, and full of flavor. The croquettes were less impressive, lacking personality. The fish special was average. The flavor was pleasant but the texture was too firm. The dessert, an île flottante, was the highlight, light, elegant, and creatively done.

I had my birthday dinner at La Provenance and had a delightful experience. The service was exceptional, with staff being incredibly friendly and attentive, especially when it came to explaining menu items. As for the food, the appetizers and soup were standout dishes, bursting with rich flavor. While the main dishes were enjoyable, they fell slightly short of expectations, lacking that extra oomph to make them truly memorable. The atmosphere of the restaurant was charming, with romantic outdoor lighting visible from indoors, making it an ideal spot for couples celebrating a special occasion. One important thing to note is that they are a BYOB restaurant, so be sure to bring your favorite bottle (we forgot). Overall, it's a lovely spot with great potential, especially for those seeking a cozy and romantic dining experience.

From the moment you walk in, to the moment you leave, you are treated to an incredible experience. The wait staff are attentive, knowledgeable, and incredibly good at their jobs. They weren't hovering, allowing you to enjoy your meal, but never left wondering where they were. The food was great, flavorful, and very well presented. I had the escargots and the rack of lamb. The desserts were surprisingly larger portions than we expected, or needed, but were excellent as well. The atmosphere was romantic, you could easily hear each other talk, and the overall location is great. I highly recommend La Provence, we will be back next time there is a special occasion!

After two unsuccessful attempts to dine here since February, through no fault of La Provence, we made it here with two other couples last night. La Provence is a BYOB, for starters. It is comfortable, homey, warming space, irrespective of where you choose to sit. There is a sizeable four season room, in which to dine along with covered outdoor seating as well. Service is impeccable and not intrusive. The staff is courteous and friendly, making you feel at home. You want for nothing. Everything we had that came out of the kitchen was simply stellar and we ordered food (cheese and charcuterie board to start off and then graduated into salads for some, appetizers for some and then entrees and dessert). We enjoyed sitting at a very comfortable alcove complete with a plush banquette and cushy chairs. We had views of the all glass four season room through to the outdoor dining space that sits close to the SEPTA Regional Rail Station in Ambler. La Provence has a beautiful stone electric fireplace in the main dining that is a nice feature. All in all, I can't say enough about the dining experience we had last night. It is certainly worthy of a road trip if you're not in the area.

Very good French restaurant with plenty of wonderful service & a healthy portion of food. We loved it there & would definitely return. I'm a vegetarian & found the food Fantastic.

Google
Very nice place with very friendly service. The cheese board was a great starter and my wife’s fish was the winning entree. My rack of lamb had more potential that would have been well served with a small side of extra sauce. Alas, by the time the server came to check, the potatoes were a bit cool and the extra sauce took a while. The Lamb made some great steak and eggs the next morning. I plan to return here again to sample more offerings.

Google
Excellent experience! We made reservations and arrived to be immediately seated. Service was impeccable with attentive and polite waitstaff who cleared and reset the table between courses. We got oysters (I would recommend the Kumamoto which were so good I forgot pictures!) and we got a bone marrow crab meat special appetizer served in a scallop shell that our waiter recommended. Both were amazing in flavor. We had duck and rabbit for our main entrees which were perfectly succulent. The portions were perfect so we splurged for dessert, creme brulee and limoncello cake, which were again perfect. Ample parking outside, great dining ambiance, we are definitely coming again. Of note, they are BYOB, which I found unusual for a French restaurant but just meant I got to save some money bringing in my own favorite red wine and spend more on their delicious food!

La Provence is an amazing gem! The food and service are outstanding! My husband and I had a wonderful experience and enjoy very much the atmosphere. Can’t wait to be back.

Yelp
Excellent all around. Service, staff knowledge, attentiveness. Food quality and variety always great. And then dessert!!

Yelp
Service was very slow. Several items on the menu were not available when we tried to order them. It would have helped if we had been told what was not available before we ordered. I ordered escargots for my appetizer - they were overcooked and slightly salty. Finally we were seated on the porch and the whole time cold air conditioning blew on me. When I told the young woman she just looked at me as though she didn't know what to do. Altogether it was a disappointing experience.

Yelp
I had dinner with a group of friends here and it was great ok, we liked that it's a BYOB place, the appetizers were tasty (specially the salmon dish) but the dinner entrees weren't our favorite. The overall feedback from our table (table of 10) was just "ok", nothing mind blowing with flavors for any of our entrees. Would possibly try again for lunch and give it a second try!

Yelp
If you're looking for an enjoyable fine dining experience, look no further. La Provence gives big city restaurant vibes in the heart of Ambler. The service is top notch, with a lead server and an assistant who provide constant attention. The ambiance is elegant but not stuffy and has an intimate feel. The food is also top notch- fresh and skillfully prepared. To start, we had warm, fresh baguette with caramelized butter that hit the mark beyond. Everything we ordered (except dessert) was from the daily special offerings. Starters: langoustine tartar with beet purée and a mushroom fricassee. Entrees: black cod over creamy polenta and branzino over stewed tomatoes. We closed out with Créme Brulee and limoncello cake. Everything was perfectly cooked, flavorful and well balanced. It is a BYOB and perhaps a bit pricy, but I think it's worth it. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
We chose the restaurant for the birthday dinner. The setting and ambience of the restaurant were very good. Foie gras is highly recommended!

Yelp
Very disappointed. Ordered a steak cooked to medium temperature. It arrived almost raw. Once we were able to attract our server's attention, he simply said he would have it cooked further. NO APOLOGY!! My three table companions had finished their meals by the time my steak was returned. Again, no apologies. The steak was grisly and tough, but at this point I was beyond complaining. There was no offer of any sort for the inconvenience or delay. Also, I am a non-drinker, so ordered iced tea at $5 a glass. I asked for refills as refills are complementary at every restaurant I have visited. La Provance charged $5 for each refill!!! Needless to say, I am done with this place.

Yelp
We went there for our anniversary, and had an excellent dining experience. We love that it is BYOB, and the ambiance matches the European cuisine they serve. The special appetizer they served with the Uni was exceptional, and the sauce for Corvina was to die for. We had creme brulee for dessert, and it was perfect. Highly recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
Let me start off by saying the food is good here. However, the steep prices and small portion sizes can't justify the taste. Some friends brought us here for dinner. We were seated right away. We started off with the cheese board and Caesar Saad for appetizers. Next up were the entrees. Orders in our party were the NY steak, the Dover Sole and Confit de Canard duck dish. For dessert, we had crème brûlée. Food was good, but again I couldn't get over the price.

Yelp
Award winning, fine dining restaurant. The food is so delicious that i think the chef and restaurant deserve Michelin stars. Aside from the parking lot, the restaurant gives a cozy, warm candle-lighted ambiance that feels like home. The outdoor seating feels like a big big backyard with running water stones. LOVE the French art in the clean bathroom. Excellent table service. The food is very similar to the French food in Paris in terms of taste, texture and portions. Bring your own drink.

Yelp
Great ambience, good service at the table, but food was pricey. Went for a dinner date. Portion sizes are on the smaller side but that is expected. For the fine dining experience and price we pay, we expected a bit more service from the wait staff at the front end, in terms of keeping the door open while we are on our way to our seats. Ordered foie gras( pan seared), seafood bisque and salmon mousse for appetizer. Canard & Trout for the main course. Flottantes for dessert. All items were perfectly done. Its BYOB, so get a wine bottle on your way in. The server at our table had a good knowledge on all the specials of the day. its worth visiting once as it is highly rated, just to experience the restaurant.

Yelp
Had a pretty decent anniversary dinner at La Provence! This was our first time here. It's a byob so we brought some French Rose to share. Our waiter, Kai, was great. So knowledgeable and attentive. For the food: Lyonnaise salad--husband really liked this Melon salad with sausage, mozzarella, butter lettuce, and white balsamic vinaigrette (special)--surprisingly delicious! Loved the combination of it all! Duck breast with orange sauce, served with braised purple cabbage and mashed potatoes (special)--my husband liked this but wasn't blown away. Turbot (fish) served with onions and mashed potatoes and some sauce (special)-- was just okay. Fish was skin-on and tasted overcooked, and the sauce was too sweet. Ile flottante- meringue brûléed on the top in a little ocean of custard--a perfect light dessert to end the meal. Lemoncello cake--my husband loved this. The entree prices were really steep, probably the most expensive I've ever seen. Not worth the price in my opinion. I don't think we'll go back but overall we were happy with our meal.

Yelp
Great menu and amazing service. BYOB is a plus! You can check out the menu ahead of time and bring the exact bottle(s) of wine you want to pair your food with.

Yelp
First time visit to La Provence. It was my birthday weekend so wanted to do a place with some good food and ambience. We liked the charm of the restaurant and grounds. They were very accommodating when we asked to move our reservation time. We got a nice table for two on the exterior enclosed porch. It was nice to be in an older building (former RR station) that has good character. For appetizer I got the salade de fromage. Excellent. Very good goat cheese with a mesclun salad. For my entree I went all out and got the rack of lamb. The highest $$ entree. It was worth it. Really enjoyed the lamb, potato croquetta and vegetables. Service was great and owner stopped by. Our only issue was the noise level where we were seated. If you get a boisterous table next to you it can be a bit loud. Overall we enjoyed our dinner and look forward to returning.

Yelp
Built in the old Ambler train station La Provence has a nice look to it with many small areas and rooms giving it an intimate feel. Heck when you approach from the outside the place is hung with a grape arbor to encourage the French feel. The staff are friendly to the point of charming. The food can be expensive, but this is a high-end restaurant and the fact you have to bring your own bottles, while a little irritating will help hold down the costs. Let's be honest we've all had sticker shock looking at wine lists and if you know wines, you'll know how places mark up bottles, so this is a major savings. Some people have complained about the train traffic. There is some outside seating near the train tracks, but I didn't see all that many trains come through. From inside the building, we barely noticed them. The food was good with strong flavors and a chance to try things you might not otherwise get like escargot, Dover Sole or rabbit. The downside was ssslllooowww service. They were charming when they were there but it took a long time for them to take orders or things to materialize. Long time to the point I considered calling dominos for a delivery to tide us over. The other downside was that a few dishes we wanted had been 86'd. OK so they are fresh only produce a limited number to avoid the waste of leftovers BUT, it became a running joke with out party that we couldn't get through a single course without at least two choices being no longer available. I'm torn between making this a 3 or 4 star review. The LONG waits were aggravating and the sold out elements were disappointing but overall the food was good, the setting nice and the staff friendly so..4

Yelp
The food was wonderful, the service was great. We had been previously and we will go again. The place is charming although it can be a bit noisy when it is filled or if there is a loud group but it is still well worth a visit.

Yelp
After a poor experience down the street from this restaurant, I was absolutely stunned by the quality in La Provence. I will eat my hat for saying French food outside the city cannot be that great. It was so stellar we went weekend after weekend. We were a big table an ordered many items in the menu, and each one, including the specials of the day were stellar. Bring some good wine, because you will need it. That's the place you come with the good stuff to compliment the amazing food. Service was excellent, and we felt like "regulars" of the restaurant. Design is great as well. Things to get- Escargot, cheese plate, beef borginon (heaven), duck, Foie gras (to die for).... And the list goes on. It's French.... REALLY French food! Go, enjoy! (We will too).

Yelp
Went here for my birthday the other day. I wanted the lamb which was a special. I was afraid to order anything I couldn't see the price of. When our waiter came to the table my wife blurted it out and the deed was done. It enticed up being $58 which I've never in my life spent on a single dish. If you're reading this review though you gotta be like man.... If you're gonna complain about price, stop going to fancy places. The only defense I have is there was a time I didn't have money for food so now it's hard for me to part with it. My wife got the feeesh but I didn't try any of it so I can speak to it. She said she loved it. It's strange because she isn't a fish eater but she keeps getting it at these fancy I got the waffles with ice cream on top for desert. We ordered our deserts. We weren't paying attention because we were talking but then someone that wasn't our server asked if they ever came out. We said no. I guess that person didn't do anything about it because a little while later our server asked us if they ever came out. So what was awesome was our server comped our deserts because she said it took so long. I really appreciated that. It's funny because we weren't even paying attention so I didn't know it was that long. Our reservations were for inside but we were seated outside. Our server was serving us and Someone I assume was da boss told her to come take photos of guests that owned some hotel. I thought that was a little rude. Also our server was trying to make sure her table was taken care of. I doubt she listed party photographer on her resume. My wife said let it go but it rubbed my rhubarb. The outdoor area could be better. The train is really close and if you aren't expecting it... it's going to scare the shit out of you the first time it happens if you're seated in the outdoor area. There was a 1/4" gap in the plexi next to our table. So I wore my coat the whole time. A few other guests asked if I was cold. I think one of the servers did too. But there wasn't anything that could really be done about it. I'd probably go here again.

Yelp
To say this place is a gem in Ambler is an understatement. Love having a great French restaurant in the area. I have taken my wife here for Birthday, Anniversary and friends out for dinner. If anyone asks for a nice/romantic restaurant to go to I always recommend La Provence. The menu is solid no matter the season. Food is a bit pricey but it's fine dining and the food is prepped/cooked properly with amazing taste. The flavors from the selected ingredients in each dish proves the chef and staff know what they're doing. Wait staff has always been stellar. Any request I have made whether it be for seating or food I have had no issues to date. Also BYOB so you can select the exact wine you want to pair with your dish. I have to get the foie gras almost everytime, fantastic!

Yelp
I, my two daughters, and son-in-law had dinner at La Provence on Christmas Eve. To begin, I was not impressed with the food. I ordered beef wellington for my entry, and for an appetizer, had shrimp with risotto. The shrimp was undercooked, and I have eaten better tasting risotto dishes. The beef wellington was cooked as I requested, and was very good, but the presentation, and puff pastry need work. One of my daughters is a vegetarian, and she was given the option of a vegetable dish with plain pasta. Her entry arrived with no pasta. We still had an okay evening. Three of us had dessert, and they were decent, but so what, the majority of high end restaurants do offer quality desserts. The bill arrived, and the total minus taxes was $500.00, and on top of that was a$150.00 tip. our waiter was terrific. But, what irritated me more than anything else was the charge for my daughter's vegetarian plate. Some carrots, and green vegetables. That charge was $100.00. Now, I have the financial strength to absorb that cost, so my anger was directed at audacity of what probably cost a total of $2.00 in material, and to charge $100.00. It really ticked me off. Before writing this, I read some of the earlier reviews, and one was posted by a food critic (I think he is) from Elkins Park. When I read it, it took me back to the movie Ratatouille. I thought he might be Anton Ego. His comments were eloquently written, and I got a kick out of his, to paraphrase, " I intend to go back for more" I didn't feel any of that. And, will not return. Yelp
First, let me just put this out there, the quality and presentation of the food is OUT OF THIS WORLD. I felt like I was eating at a Michelin Star rated restaurant with each bite of food. I was so incredibly impressed. I had the goat cheese on brioche appetizer and was truly wow'd by the taste and presentation. The profiteroles were crunchy on the outside and the cream was smooth and luscious on the inside. The dark chocolate drizzle on top was the perfect balance of sweet and decadent. It was the perfect chef's kiss to end a delicious meal. The only reason this is 4 stars over 5 is because of the service. The staff was extremely friendly and I appreciate them all. However, I am not sure if they were understaffed, but I think we were sitting for about 15-20 minutes before our orders were taken. We actually had to get the manager's attention to even order because our server was busy running around to other tables. Like I said before, the staff was great, so I am wondering if they were short staffed that night. I am not a huge fan of french food so the fact that I was so impressed is really saying something! Check this place out!

Catout O.

Yelp
Sub par food seasoned with arrogance. Bias and hostile management. The dishes that contained meat were inedible akin to a door stop. Their excuse for the lousy meat was that I didn't know how to eat it and we were not "upscale enough clientele" to eat there. Everyone should have access to a beautiful dining experience without being denigrated. Shameful.
google avatar

Terry D.

Yelp
I had an endive salad and onion soup; very French n'est pas? But the flavors were really very good. The seating is a bit tight inside, it looked more spacious outside but I don't care for eating outside, fighting flies and mosquitoes. I booked the reservation on Open Table and should have read further down that the restaurant is totally BYOB which spells bye bye for me! But I didn't see it until I got to the restaurant by then too late to cancel. I would maybe go back...with someone else to help finish a bottle. That's why I avoid BYOB. I'm generally dining solo.

Steve D.

Yelp
Very disappointing end to an evening that started out great. Appetizers were outstanding and promptly served. Our entrées orders then seemed to have been forgotten and hastily prepared. Most disheartening was the management reaction. They were argumentative and defensive. A simple apology would have sufficed. Very curious reaction and doubtful that we will return. Disappointing for a place that had been a favorite.

Yelp
The atmosphere is lovely, inside and out, and the food is very good, although overpriced. All menu items were all too expensive for a BYOB in the area. Prices are high everywhere now, for good reason, but not this high. But, the service was excellent. Our server was professional and friendly. Here is why I only gave this restaurant one star: Trains keep going by, and are incredibly loud and jolting, which can be a bit annoying. That might not bother some people, it may even add to the quaint. atmosphere. However... Carefully look over your bill. Second time we were charged $14 extra - EXTRA - for each entree. I guess they were hoping no one would notice? It was brought to the attention of the manager who told us it was a "glitch" in their system and acted hostile. It seems we were not the first to have this issue. Afterwards, when mentioning it to a friend, they said the same thing happened to them! The manager offered no apology. Beware is all I can say.

Kim R.

Yelp
So pleasantly surprised when we had dinner at this French restaurant. White glove and formal so it's def a special occasion type of place but service was overall ver accommodating with frequent check ins. The appetizers and mains are large portioned and delicious. We started with a salad and soft shell crab special - amazing flavors and so well prepared. We tried a seafood entree and also a duck entree - again we'll seasoned and prepared and the chocolate dessert was to die for. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Food was outstanding. I had the dover sole and it was perfectly done. The parking was very convenient. We will be back.

Yelp
A-OK, but could have been better. And, granted it was hot outside, our choice to sit inside was a mistake. It was stuffier and hotter inside. The air in the room went from hot to bearable to hot to bearable every 5 or so minutes...annoying AF. Sweat actually broke out on my face and was dripping on my beautiful, very cool and fashionable shirt. :( We were cramped in a corner thru-way on the porch, on an uneven floor causing chairs and table to rock with every movement. The server assured us he would not squeeze past us all night and would service the other table around the turn from the other side, but he did not live up to his promise. On to the food. For apps I had the escargot. Overcooked and chewy, a very bitter garlic flavor also subtracted from what I have fell in love with at other French dining venues. Presentation in the white dish with the dark green parsley butter brings it from 1 star to 2. My friend had the Belgian Endive, lovely textures prevalent with the apples and pecans, and dressed with a tasty creamy roasted shallot vinaigrette. 4 stars The Norwegian Sole, for a tad under $50, was very good. A bit salty, but really cooked to perfection, presented skillfully with a strip of mashed potato and the spinach draped between the halved, almost entirely deboned filets (only 2 bones hit my mouth). 4 stars My friend had the rabbit, served with a very small smattering of cavatelli. I tasted un petit peu. It had a very pleasant flavor and my friend was pleased with the choice. 4 stars No dessert, I had to GTF outta the heat and GTF outside. I will return IN THE FALL, where I won't have to deal with the extreme uncomfortable atmosphere and request a table away from the corner passageway. And I won't be ordering the escargot next time either.

Yelp
Another amazing meal, with impeccable service, at this little gem. My best friend and I had the burrata with crab, foie gras, cantaloupe/prosciutto, bison, and tile fish. Kai was great -- attentive but not overbearing. It was a perfect evening. Thank you!

Stan L.

Yelp
Once again, La Provence proved to be a steadfast, go to place for an enjoyable French meal with impeccable service ( thanks, Nate, for your professionalism). After our debacle experience at Spring Mill Cafe, where our reservation was not honored, I called La Provence and they could accommodate our party of 5 in the next 20 minutes. We had a wonderful dinner, wonderful service and wonderful ambience. They never fail to deliver, and, they saved our evening out!

Yelp
My boyfriend brought me here to celebrate my college graduation. I studied abroad in Dijon, France for one summer and I have to say that the food is very authentic. My boyfriend was not a fan of the menu, but I have to say there are lots of foods on there that you would see at a restaurant in France. We ordered the french onion soup (so good!) and the cheese plate (also really amazing, we always get a cheese plate when we go out and this one was really yummy). My boyfriend was really angry at how stingy they were with the french bread because it tasted absolutely amazing, but they would only give you one piece at a time. For the entree, I ordered the sirloin and my boyfriend got the mussels. I was glad I didn't fill up on bread because of the crispy french fries that came with my steak. My steak was cooked to perfection! We also got the creme brûlée for our dessert, which was the best I've ever had. I loved this place but if you are going with people (like my boyfriend) who aren't familiar with french cuisine make sure they check the menu first to see if there are options they will enjoy. Very good service from our waiter and the ambiance is super romantic for a date night

Hue D.

Yelp
The place is very nice looking and service is great. But the food to me personally isn't the best and for the price I wouldn't want to come back. Presentation is really nice but my duck was too salty, there were like 2 pieces of green beans and 2 pieces of carrots, with one dollop of mashed potatoes. The mashed potato is so good but so little of it to enjoy. Fois gras was seared perfectly but no flavor. Maybe it can be good for someone else but I personally would not come back for the food.

Yelp
Came with my family for Sunday brunch and had a great time. Restaurant has only been open 4weeks when we came early October 2019. The ambiance is really nice. Good for romantic meals. They put us in the back area and it was really secluded and private. Wait staff was super attentive and service was very good. Food wise I really enjoyed the parsnip soup. The mussel frites was cooked just right with great flavors. Only thing was mussels were on the small size. The steak frites was just ok. Ordered medium rare but came out more medium well done in my opinion. The French toast was probably the best dish. It was so light and egg like. It's a BYOB so we bought champagne and they had fresh squeezed OJ for mimosas. Overall good food, nice ambiance and great service. Agree with others kinda on pricy side so wouldn't come here that often.

Yelp
I'm a little bummed. I know it's new so I gave one star for hopes it will improve with time, but I really had such high hopes it would be good from the jump. The ambiance lacks that je ne sais quoi. It's a little too sterile and contemporary American to have a genuine French feel, with very white walls, blingy chandelier, ho-hum artwork on the walls and odd mismatched plates that feel very un-European all glittering in the small interior space. The outside is promising though, with tiki torches and tables spotting the lawn and covered patio by the tracks. Alas, it was too warm on opening day to sit outside. The mushroom tartlet we started with had a pastry that was very overcooked and thoroughly inauthentically French (I lived there for a spell, so I'm quite familiar). The flavors of the mushroom and the scant sauce were really quite tasty, but the pastry was a disappointment that overshadowed the whole dish. Then to the Bœuf Bourguignon which was, in fact, NOT Bœuf Bourguignon though it was quite delicious as a roast with yummy sauce and potatoes. My man had the Bouillabaisse which was under seasoned and uninspired. The scallops and toasted bread smothered in a buttery-dijon goodness were the only saviors here, despite the broth and fish which were really bland. We were already disappointed and a Benjamin in (for food only since we brought our beverage, since it's BYO), so we skipped dessert. I absolutely love the location with all the outdoor tables by the train tracks and adore (true) French cuisine, so I'm really really crossing fingers and toes this gets better beyond opening night. I will certainly update this review if it does.

Yelp
Fabulous French dining experience right by the train station in Ambler. The menu is very authentic and with the BYOB offering it makes the place perfect to enjoy with fellow oenophiles! ENJOY!!!!!

Yelp
We had a lovely experience here last Friday, for our 27th anniversary. The place is charming inside and out. Our server, Michael, was attentive and passionate about the food, which is always endearing. We started with the cheese board and foie gras, which were delicious. Hubs had the steak, which was well cooked and flavorful. I had the trout amandine, one of my favorites and it was lovely and generously portioned. We ended with profiteroles- I had to give up after 3 out of 4 of them, as I was stuffed! Such a nice little find- will be back for sure.

Alex C.

Yelp
I was very disappointed with our experience. We made a reservations for "standard seating" at what we thought was an upscale restaurant but we were seated at a table in their enclosed outdoor seating. We were sitting next to open dry wall, exposed insulation and the area was wrapped in plastic. This was a February night so it was freezing, yes they had heating lamps but it wasn't enough. We knew it was next to the train station, but I wasn't aware how close they sat people next to the train, there were audible gasps every time the train would come by. The waiter was very professional but it took an hour and a half to even get our appetizers. We were planning on getting dessert but left early because I was so cold. It's unfortunate because if we were sat inside I think our experience would have been very different.

Yelp
March 6 was our 3rd time dining at La Provence. It was the first time we ate inside. We really enjoy this place! The French food here is outstanding. The service is perfectly timed and the resultant decor adds to the experience. The beet and blue cheese salad and the monk bouillabaisse were delicious! My wife enjoyed the goat cheese salad and trout almondine. We finished with a classic : creme brûlée. Great food all around!

Yelp
Tried to email about our experience but never got a response, sadly. As always the ambience is incredible and staff is super nice, but it's uncomfortable when they stop over to take the plates so quickly. It happened five minutes into the appetizer which was half eaten and then the same thing happened the entire time we were trying to eat the lamb chop and trout as well. Spending close to $200 for a dinner we truly were hoping to relax and enjoy how beautiful the environment is, but if I'm honest we felt really rushed the entire time. It just wasn't the experience we had in the past or hoped for when coming back and was a bit disappointing. Thank you for listening.

Yelp
Based upon my three experiences, the food at La Provence is good, and the outdoor garden setting is quite pleasant. However, being an expert on COVID-19 education, I masked up walking through the small indoor restaurant. My wife and I were surprised that we were the only ones wearing masks, including staff (except for our waiter). There is no such requirement, nor are the staff required to be vaccinated. That means that any of their team, including those in the kitchen, or diners, could have symptomatic COVID-19 or be a carrier, putting everyone, including the vaccinated, at risk. I politely called to the attention of the host the CDC, Pennsylvania, and Montgomery County Guidelines: "Montgomery County continues to recommend masks be worn at indoor public spaces. Masks are required or staff and visitors to all county buildings and facilities. https://www.montcopa.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=3633." The host gave me attitude, indicating they follow mandates, not recommendations. Really? Not to save lives? If you are risk-adverse, beware

Yelp
Overall impression - disappointment. Keeping in mind we came there 1-st time. This restaurant was recommended by several family members and friends as one of the jewels in the area... Disappointed. We were a party of 6 - 3 couples. I will start with seating. We were seated in the area that is, possibly, used as outside seating during summer but now it is covered by the plastic wall and heaters were effective but.... active railroad right behind those plastic wall and airwaves from passing trains are very disturbing... And host did not tell us about that extreme "feature". Who's brilliant idea was to use that area as seating? We did not come to get a scoop of extreme, we came to (supposedly) high-end French restaurant.... Keeping in mind there were a lot of other spaces for the 6 people table. Food. Another disappointment. Rib eye steak was presented as a special dish accompanied with foie-gra and some other additions. Reality: pre-coocked piece of meat from refrigerator with piece of potato and nothing else... Nobody was bothering to ask how we would like to have it: well-done, medium... Another dish: pork shoulder.... in a form of stew with several pieces of meat in a lot of sauce covered by fried dough.... The appetizer's plate (!!!) with 3 cheeses - 3 small pieces of each is out of comments. So, for $150 per couple we had trains running behind our back, way overpriced food of sub-standard (for the advertised type of place) quality and nothing more.... except BYOB policy. Disappointment.

Yelp
My husband and I ate dinner at La Provence to celebrate our one year anniversary. We made a reservation beforehand for an early dinner around 6:30 PM on a gorgeous Friday night and were seated quickly. Because of the current pandemic, I was keeping an eye out to make sure that the restaurant felt safe and clean to eat. The tables inside the actual restaurant were few and very spaced out. My husband and I don't love eating outdoors, so we sat in the sunroom area that had a great view of the garden. I was glad to see that they had many outdoor tables set up with proper distancing. And they filled up quickly, so making a reservation was probably a good idea! Everything we had was great! I liked that all the food felt very authentically French, but wasn't pretentious, if you know what I mean. I had the baked mussels (loved!) and the chicken which was surprisingly amazing. My husband had the Salad Lyonnaise (he loved!) and the beef stew which he also enjoyed. The service was great and although we might have been the only couple located indoors, we still felt that we got equal attention to the more busy outdoor tables. We can't wait to come back for more BYOB dinners and brunch too!

Yelp
Highly recommend this lovely restaurant! Food was amazing...For appetizers, my husband thoroughly enjoyed the escargot and I, the seafood bisque. We both had the Covina entree and it was so delicious! Desserts were wonderful as well. Chocolate Mousse and ILE FLOTTANTE which was delicate in flavor and so yummy, nice finish to a great meal. Our waiter, Nate was excellent and provided great service and recommendations.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic from beginning to end. After a few classic French restaurants closed in the area I was certain there would not be another. Then I found La Provence. From the ambiance to the service to the food, this place is the real deal. Our waiter had spent 15 years at Le-Bec Fin and was a pleasure to have. It's rare you find someone still dedicated to the craft of serving. Oysters were better than any oyster bar we have been at. Salads were wonderful twists on French classics. Main course (recommended by our waiter) were unreal - we had the Trout. Dessert was deadly - just when we thought it couldn't get any better. The pace of the meal was also wonderful. We usually feel rushed out of a restaurant - not here (granted we went on a weekday - not sure about weekends). This place should stay around for a very long time. It is arguably the best overall restaurant we have been to outside of Philadelphia in a decade.

Yelp
Food was good, service was adequate, but nether spectacular for the price. Portions on the skimpy side. Bread served with the meal was not particularly good. All in all, nothing to rave about.

Yelp
Do they have an off night? I am not sure. We went here for the first time after our friends highly recommended it. We love French cuisines after visiting Provence and Paris a few times in the past, and our friends said the food here was like visiting France again. Our teen didn't like going out to restaurants with us anymore, but after finding out we were going to a French restaurant, she quickly jumped to the chance. The first thing she ordered was escargot, which she loved and ate in Paris twice a day! I got the duck confit and hubby got daube. His daube was very good, just like how we had it in Provence. The duck confit was dry (never knew one can dry out duck.) But our kid had it bad. As soon as she finished here escargot, she felt sick. Not vomiting sick, but a dull pain that still hadn't gone away after 2 days sick. This kid rarely got sick and loved to eat, and now she said she'd never have escargot ever again. Not sure I'd ever go there again.

Yelp
I'm an Ambler local and a lover of French food so I could not have been more excited when I heard La Provence was opening in the Ambler train station (former home of Trax). We simply do not have enough French food options in the Philly metro region. I was curious about which direction they would go - Parisian cafe, French farmhouse, etc. The minute you walk in, you could tell they went for an upscale dining experience. The renovations were simply beautiful, and you can tell that this was a labor of love and the owners put thought and care into every detail. The tables are set beautifully, white with pops of green and blue. We sat outside and they did a wonderful job with the landscape: hydrangeas and tiki torches with the babble of a small waterfall. Service was wonderful, our waiter was great and the owner stopped by to check on us a few times. The menu was small, but full of French classics. We started with the cheese tray. Beautifully presented with a high quality selection (best Saint Andre I've had). My only complaint is that the accompaniments were nothing special, the types of things I can pull out of my fridge. Honey, grapes, sliced strawberries, and plain walnuts (not even toasted or seasoned). For the price and presentation I would have expected more, but it was delicious nonetheless. I think for their menu, they are trying to do a modern take on French classics, but it's not traditional French recipes. My husband had the boeuf bourguignon, which was a delicious short rib over whipped potatoes, but not boeuf bourguignon. I had the boullibase, which was a gorgeous array of shellfish and cod in a light saffron broth, but did not have the depth of a traditional boullibase. Both were beautifully presented and delicious, but more of an interpretation of French cuisine vs. the classic preparations. I think I'd be remiss if I finished this review without mentioning the prices. They were high. Shockingly high. It makes sense to me because it's clear that this is a high end concept restaurant and is perfect for special occasions. But for them to have longevity they need to get repeat local customers and midweek business. As they evolve, I'd love to see them offer items at a lower price point or even a midweek bistro style menu. I had big plans to become a regular here but it's way too pricey for that. While you don't mind spending a little extra on a special occasion or date night, it's hard to justify a $40 entree on a random Wednesday night. But for our next birthday/anniversary/etc. occasion, I will be back!

Yelp
Service and cuisine were impeccable. Our waiter, Nate, was professional, friendly, efficient, and had a "handle"of the food on the menu. He was able to answer questions of the menu items, and make smart recommendations. Food preparation was "par excellance". It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. I enjoyed the Escargot, while my wife enjoyed her three cheese appetizer, and our guest enjoyed his beet salad. I was delighted to find the rabbit ragu back on the menu (it was not on their website menu). It was served over papparadelle, and was every bit as good as I remembered it from my last visit. My wife and guest thoroughly enjoyed the Dover Sole Meunière. We only wondered why we had to settle for early dinner reservations on the patio, when, even by the end of our meal (around 7:30 PM), the patio was still empty. The sun was lower at 7:00PM, and would have been a more pleasant time to dine. Despite the inconvenience of being in direct setting sunshine, the dining experience warrants a 5-star review. Bravo to the chef and staff of La Provence.

Yelp
This was a decent spot to eat outside this past weekend with an early evening appointment. The menu is chock full seafood-focused French-Country fare. Service was quite good, even providing me complimentary wine. The plates, however, were a tad disappointing. The house pate was bland. The assorted cheeses were ok with two interesting cows milk selections. Sadly, the Duck Confit was very poorly cooked with rubbery, greasy skin. The selection of desserts was generic for a French restaurant. Reminds us of "tourist" restaurants dotted around Paris. Lots of atmosphere but mediocre food.

Yelp
Dinning outdoors felt like a vacation from our days of Covid19. The staff all in Masks, tables apart, areas being wiped down. Menus are disposed of once you place your order. Cindy, the owner was overseeing all + very concerned about everyones comfort!! Food was fabulous as we sat in a beautiful landscaped + illuminated setting. Lots of parking + BYOB! Food we enjoyed!! Pate de campagne delish + delicate plated w/ tiny cornichons, mustard. Veal Milanese, was flattened on the bone with the most delicious sauce, cooked to perfection..Hudson Valley Foie gras Torchon yummy! Bread plentiful with amazing french butter. Deserts sounded great, we did not order any this time!! We will happily return & recommend for a delightful dinning experience. Make a reservation in advance!!! We need to support businesses caring + creating a new normal for all to enjoy!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND:}
