Mignon Brings Steak Frites and Espresso Martinis to Little Burgundy | Eater Montreal

"Arguably Montreal’s most extravagant steakhouse, La Queue de Cheval has been closed for renovations for over a year; Vernis contrasts his restrained, neighbourhood approach with the over-the-top, opulent image people often have of steakhouses—leather banquettes and waiters upselling expensive add-ons." - Valerie Silva

Queue de Cheval Owners Allegedly Stole Wages and Tips to Pay Bills | Eater Montreal

"At the high-end downtown steakhouse on de la Montagne Street, I found that multiple employees of La Queue de Cheval say they were not paid wages or tips for shifts worked in early March; owners notified staff in mid‑March via letter that “all salaries for the [two] weeks ending March 15th 2020 cannot be issued” and blamed financial stress and other obligations, promising payment only after federal compensation or a return to regular business. The dining room was voluntarily closed on March 16, but the restaurant remained open daily for takeout — with steaks priced $36–$191 and to‑go bottles of wine up to $155 — while some workers were later called to collect paychecks (a few were asked not to deposit them immediately) and others still reported missing hours, tips and vacation pay; some staff have filed complaints with the CNESST. Employees described being summoned to find owners absent and only given envelopes containing government-assistance forms and that letter, and said the scene left families in limbo and some in tears; one server estimated he was owed about $3,000 and suggested total debts run to tens of thousands. Owner Peter Morentzos said he was “caught off guard,” explained obligations to suppliers and purchases made in early March, launched an “Employee Rescue Fund” via gift-certificate sales and posted takeout promotions, and alternately criticized staff for speaking to media even as the CNESST investigates — a sequence that has left many employees feeling betrayed." - Tim Forster

Which ‘High End’ Downtown Restaurant Served Sushi Off a Half-Naked Woman Last Week? | Eater Montreal

"As context, Angry Lobster is the sister to this prominent, very expensive beef-oriented steakhouse helmed by Peter Morentzos, which is located at the same de la Montagne address; it has been called out in the past for objectifying women, specifically with an ad campaign that appeared to compare women to cuts of meat." - Tim Forster

Great ambiance. Classic steakhouse. They dry age their meat at least 30 days. Service is what you would expect at a restaurant of this caliber. It is exceptional. The team took care of our party of 5 really well- no complaints. They also come and show you the steak that they will be making for you before they make it which is quite nice. The last time I went they had a few items which they didn’t have this time. Maybe they were specials? The last time i went, they had a cap steak which is supposed to be most flavourful part of a rib-eye.

The service from the moment you walk in the door is superb. The food, presentation, service, and ambience, are all a great upscale experience. For example, we all walked in with laptop bags and they stored them for us securely. All the staff were very accommodating, observant, and there to serve. The waiters offered a few suggestions to share to keep costs down. (Note that the restaurant is upscale and a bit pricey). The steaks we had could easily be shared by 2 or even 3 people. I had the unique opportunity to talk to an assistant chef that previously worked there, and he had only the best to say about the restaurant, the food quality, the chefs, and the overall management. He said, "you picked the right place."

Incredible dining experience. This place is not just your typical steakhouse. The menu is very extensive and includes a nice pic of seafood and steaks. I would highly recommend the tartare and they'll give table side service so you get to see it mixed in front of you. For the main entrees they bring the meats to you before they cook them so you get to see the raw cut (first time a restaurant has ever done this for me). I chose to get the lamb as my main and loved it. The rest of my table got steaks and they were some of the biggest steaks I've ever seen. I think the best part was the side dishes which rivaled the meat for which was better and made it difficult to finish the meal (but of course we did). We got 4 desserts (chocolate souffle, creme brulee, death by chocolate, and cheesecake) for a table of 6 and somehow managed to finish those too. I'm usually not a fan of cheesecake but this one was amazing. Pricey but worth it (and it can be not too pricey if you just don't choose the most expensive steaks).

The moment you walk in the door you can sense something is different about this restaurant. The staff at La Queue de Cheval are amazing and are what really take things to the next level. They took the time to personalize the experience by introducing themselves, attending to our every need and ensuring we had everything required for the ultimate dining experience. From the first app to dessert, the food was fantastic. I travelled from out of town and will certainly be returning the next time I am in Montreal...with hopefully less snow!

I reserved this restaurant for my birthday. I specifically asked to be seated downstairs when I called. Once I got there, I was seated at the worst table in the restaurant. Upstairs right next to the kitchen where waiters kept passing behind us. I asked to be moved to downstairs and the waiter said it would take about 45 minutes but that we could go wait at the bar, which is what we did. The bar is beautiful. The drinks are strong just how I like it. The service at the bar was ok; some bartenders are more helpful and nicer than others. I decided to order my appetizers at the bar. I started with the beef tartare which was simple. It was a classic recipe. Nothing extravagant but it was good. I then ordered the tuna tataki and the tuna sashimi. The fish is so fresh it melts in your mouth. Really delicious. To end my appetizer round I decided to try the salmon roll which does not contain any rice. HEAVEN. Words can’t describe how amazing this roll was. Best thing I’ve had the whole night. It was a delight! Once our table was ready I ordered my main course which was a 20oz rib eye steak and lobster Mac & Cheese. I asked my waiter if I could get it cut just like the tomahawk and he said of course. Once my meal arrived. The waiter told me the Chef refused to cut the steak. I was quite insulted. A ribeye is a tomahawk without the bone so why wouldn’t it be possible to have it cut the same way? It literally takes 2 seconds and it improves the meal presentation. Luckily, my waiter was nice enough to offer to cut the ribeye at our table. He went above and beyond as he did not have to do that. That’s what I call good service. The meat was extremely tender and perfectly seasoned. I have to say it is one of the best steak I’ve had in Quebec. It is quite comparable to Jacobs steakhouse in Toronto which is fantastic! Overall it was a good experience, everyone should try this place at least once in their life! It is pricy but you get what you pay for. The quality is unbeatable. Have fun trying their extensive menu! Isabelle

This place is a Montreal institution: impeccable service and decor, an amazing wine and cocktail list, and food that is beyond reproach. This place is a must visit if you're willing to spend, and should be considered for any special occasion. It's a popular destination for work meetings as well, so drop in if you've got official business or someone to impress.
