Super overdue review:
My husband and I stayed at the La Quinta Resort for our honeymoon. We were originally supposed to check out after four days, but we enjoyed it so much that we extended it an extra two. Here is why:
We came here unexpectedly during the off-season and during the week. We essentially had the resort to ourselves, which was a fantastic feeling. Day and night, we saw barely anyone. After long, drawn-out months of DIY wedding planning on both our ends, this was exactly what we needed. Some R&R and alone time. As the weekend approached, particularly Friday, we noticed how busy the resort got and were glad we were checking out the following day.
Room decor was exactly what you would expect, seeing that the exterior of the buildings is Spanish Colonial. I have no clue why some people have continuously complained about the interior of the rooms. It would look odd if you stepped into one of the rooms in this resort and saw a modern take on beds, furniture, bathroom style, etc. Previously we stayed at a double tree, and it was plain modern decor that did not have a "warm, cozy, at home" feeling. This place does. I personally loved the interior of the buildings that were upgraded.
The service was phenomenal except for a few minor instances where 1) The front desk clerk, Luis, could not find my husband's ID after we returned the tennis rackets and balls and pretty much decided to throw this issue on us, saying "Normally we don't deal with this stuff because people don't normally return these so late. You can come back at 7 AM and ask at that point." I told him, "This was not our fault, and we would like someone to please contact us the next day when they find his ID." The next day we were called and told that Luis would be trained on where the IDs are held. The next time he saw my husband, he greeted him by name but did not apologize. While an apology wasn't necessarily expected, it would have been nice.
2) We were told that the resort fee included free golfing at PGA West as well as free driving clubs. After arriving at PGA West (Which is gorgeous, btw), we were told we needed Polo shirts and to rent the clubs. All of which would have cost us over $200. The hotel never told us this after numerous times of speaking to the concierge and front desk regarding the golf courses. Thankfully, we ended up getting in without having to purchase Polo shirts or renting clubs. They gave them to us, including a golf cart, for free. It was lovely, but we were the only ones out there in 113-degree weather, which we believe is the primary reason they let us in because we overheard that no members were on the driving range to see us. Oh, the travesty if the members had seen us not wearing polos. In the future, I don't recommend you golf in that weather.
3) After extending our stay, we returned one night at 12:30 AM and could not enter our room. We called the front desk and found out that, evidently, we were supposed to receive new key cards after we extended our stay. Normally, waiting for security wouldn't have been a big deal, but it was sweltering, and we were exhausted. We were told that new key cards would be sent to us immediately. We waited and did not hear from anyone. Instead, I woke up in the morning and noticed on our balcony, on the table outside, two key cards that were completely melted. Apparently, those were our key cards that they dropped off unexpectedly in the middle of the night without letting us know. So essentially, somebody could have hopped over our door and gotten into our room that night. Thankfully nothing like that happened.
All in all a pleasant experience with some hiccups.
