"While this hotel, dating back to 1909, has always been a choice stay for luxury seekers, its 2020 redesign further cemented it in Zurich’s upper echelon of places to bed down. Located on Lake Zurich, the 10-minute walk to town means that, once ensconced inside, you’ll feel like you’re at a relaxing resort—not an urban hotel. It’s a Philippe Starck reimagining, but Starck had the good sense to maintain some of the building’s most beloved bones, from the high ceilings to the wrought-iron balconies. He injected it with a dose of fun modernity, however, resulting in 40 rooms and suites that resemble sailors’ cabins. The rooftop bar, in season, is particularly alluring thanks to those serene lake views and a sophisticated ambience. There’s a cigar bar too, where whiskey and cognac connoisseurs will find a fine selection of spirits in the leather-rich room, also designed by the inimitable Starck." - Stacey Lastoe

"This Zurich hotel provides guests with complimentary access to the Kunsthaus Zurich art museum and the Seebad Utoquai bathing pavilion, combining art and lakeside leisure as included perks." - Cat Sposato

"Guided by Michel Reybier Hospitality’s credo of ‘Rethinking Luxury,’ this designer hotel on the picturesque shores of Lake Zurich exudes a contemporary, trendy style in a highly personal way, aiming to evoke a warm, welcoming feeling of a home away from home in line with La Réserve’s values of excellence, authenticity, and simplicity. The real magic comes from the team’s unbreakable unity, unwavering enthusiasm, and deep passion. From EHL, the defining skill is embracing change—taking cues from nature to adapt, make the most of the moment, and deal successfully with constant evolution." - Le Guide MICHELIN

"A 40-room Philippe Starck redesign of a historic lakeside hotel that channels a sophisticated yacht aesthetic—mahogany panels, nautical paintings—and celebrates Zurich’s lake culture and relaxed work-life balance. Rooms overlook Lake Zurich, and the top-floor Peruvian-Japanese restaurant La Muña is already a local favorite for its panoramic lake-and-city terrace and cozy, wood-beamed interior." - Annie Fitzsimmons

"The Eden au Lac has been a Zürich institution since 1909—a fine figure of a lakeside hotel. But now, having had some serious work done and reopened as part of Michel Reybier’s La Réserve portfolio, it has been reimagined completely. The ground floor is almost entirely devoted to the bright main restaurant and bar. There is a DJ booth and a sneaky little fumoir off to one side behind an unmarked door. The bathrooms are in a hall of mirrors of which Stanley Kubrick might have been jealous: half Versailles, half Studio 54. Indeed, the overall aesthetic is difficult to characterize—approximately mid-century modern but with a woody, chromey, nautical twist—designer Philippe Starck claims to have been inspired by “an imaginary yacht club.” The only significant difference between the 40 rooms is size. Splash out on one of the larger lake-facing ones, where the light bounces in off the water, and from which, if you step onto the balcony, you can admire the rippling silhouette of the not-too-distant Alps." - Steve King
