15 Places In Philly To Have A Last-Minute Group Dinner In Philly

"Usually, when you want to remember an epic trip, you grab a t-shirt or endlessly sift through your camera roll. But for the Philadelphians who went to Mexico City and loved it, they can just head to La Roma. With brick walls, candlelight, hanging plants, and pictures of the Colonia Roma all around, the cozy Port Richmond restaurant is inspired by the famous neighborhood. The menu is a mashup of Italian, Japanese, Mexican, and other cuisines you may find around the famous neighborhood. But our favorites here are the chicken empanadas, arancini stuffed with kielbasa and gouda, and short rib tagliatelle ragu. And with an impeccable drink menu and impressive tequila and mezcal lists, it’s a casual place to walk into with a group of friends, sip on a cocktail, and forget you’re right off the Delaware Expressway. " - candis mclean, team infatuation

The Coziest Restaurants In Philadelphia

"If you can’t decide between excellent chicken empanadas or crispy arancini, but know you want a cute space with lots of plants, exposed brick, and warm lighting, La Roma should be on your radar. Inspired by a neighborhood in Mexico City, the candlelit Port Richmond restaurant has a menu that’s a mashup of Italian, Japanese, Mexican, and other cuisines. It’s both casual and affordable, with lots of Spanish guitar coming through the speakers, making it perfect for a weeknight dinner with good tequila or mezcal. " - candis mclean

This place just continues to go above and beyond expectations. Every time we go, it’s better than the last and we make a date night here on the regular. Mimi and La Roma made our first date night here so special we just keep coming back. Denver steak, branzini, arancini, lobster risotto, burgers, brunch and awesome craft cocktails. Fantastic margaritas. Service is stellar. Personal touches and genuine interest. We are so proud to live here and this place will be so special to us. Thank you, La Roma!

Google
I have been going to La Roma for over a year and a half. Beautiful restaurant, Amazing team of people working here from the front all the way to the back. I’m a regular who sits at the bar and just talks to the owner Chris who is the BEST cocktail maker in the business! La Roma is an amazing spot to take your partner, loved ones or even a cute dinner date with a group of friends

One of the best restaurants I’ve been too! So cute . Good for a date night , solo date or girls night . Local spot but a treasure! Everything an order was chef kiss ! The drinks were strong if you like that . I went during happy hour . $10-30 little pricey for happy hour but worth every penny! The service was good and bar tender was good also. This is a five star restaurant!

Google
A cozy little Italian restaurant in the Port Richmond area. Very clean with a tasteful decor. The calamari was excellent, perfectly tender with just the right amount of spicy kick. Definitely top notch here. The mushroom pierogi were simply OK. I may be a bit picky here since I've grown up eating homemade. I make them from scratch and I've sampled pierogi all over Port Richmond. There are worse, there are better, so we can call these these middle of the road. The chicken was well seasoned and tasty. The garlic mash were also outstanding with all seasonings and flavors in perfect balance. The ribs were perfectly cooked, tender but not mushy. Very respectable and better than many I've had in the NE region of the country. My problem is that I've lived and traveled throughout the South and fancy the dry rubbed and smoked ribs of that region. Northern style ribs will rarely ever have that level of depth and complexity of flavor. Overall, a very enjoyable dining experience. If you're in the area, La Roma is worth a try.

Went there for brunch. I ordered the skillet, but instead, I got the steak and egg. Didn't bother to make an issue because the steak and eggs were pretty good. It's not our first time there.

Google
An undiscovered gem. Six adults all raved about their meals and appetizers. The Ragu Tagliatelle and skirt steak with Chimichurri were excellent. Mussels as an appetizer were also some of the best we have had. Go out of your way to enjoy this Port Richmond dinner spot. Happy Hour weekdays is to 7:00 with reduced appetizers and drinks.

Yelp
La Roma is a nice addition to Port Richmond! It's located inside a former corner bar. The renovation kept a lot of the former bars character, but upgraded it a little bit. The lighting and decor give it a casual comfortable vibe. The outside seating tea in the front is very cute! I was here with my husband, daughter and her boyfriend. The staff is amazing. The cocktail game is strong with a rotating cocktail list as well as staple cocktails. The pineapple Caipirinha was yummy. The watermelon margarita was refreshing! Our server accommodated a few special request which we really appreciated. She also checked back to be sure it was ok. She made the night an even better experience. The food is delicious! They have a good variety of appetizers and entrées. We tried the pierogi, empanadas, mussels and calamari. Pierogi were nicely fried with creamy filling. The empanadas were flavorful and crisp. The calamari was perfectly fried and tender. The mussels were good with a delicious broth. We happy to have the bread to soak up the broth! The rib eye was perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth. The mashed potatoes were excellent! The branzino was also perfectly cooked and delicious. The short rib ragu is my husband's favorite and it didn't disappoint! The only downside was we were too full for dessert. There's always next time!

Yelp
I've dined here 3 times and look forward to many more visits. The menu is beautifully crafted with an eclectic mix of Italian, Mexican, and a touch of Polish. Every dish I've had was excellent. I especially enjoy the seafood soup. The cocktails are amazing--high quality ingredients and flair. And the desserts are always impressive. Staff is lovely. And I found a close by, free street parking space each time. Atmosphere is warm and welcoming whether for a sit down table meal or a visit at the bar.

Yelp
The food is amazing, the drinks are great and the wait staff is the best. It's our go to neighborhood spot on Fridays

Yelp
Interesting cart that was at the Pierogi fest at Olde Kensington. They had a ton of Mexican non alcoholic drinks that sounded amazing. I didn't have any but they looked really good (especially in the heat). I had the Kielbasa and mozzarella cheese Pierogi which was really good. The kielbasa was good quality and tasted good with the cheese. The sauce is really good (tasted like cilantro). The coleslaw was pretty good as well (I really liked the purple cabbage in it).

Yelp
Stopped in tonight (Monday) for dinner with a friend. We had both never been here before. Pleasantly surprised that they offer happy hour until 7pm! We both ordered a drink and an appetizer (fried calamari and muscles) from the happy hour menu. I enjoyed the salmon for my entree. Everything was really good! Service was great!

Yelp
What a lovely experience! If this is any sign of what's to come in Port Richmond, then the restaurant scene has a bright future. Cozy environment - great staff - incredible food. Menu covers a good mix of offerings, with a nice variety of meat & veggies options for both appetizers and entrees. Their plating was INCREDIBLE, and the food tasted even better. This is easily a meal you can expect in center city. Port Richmond is lucky to have this in their neighborhood. While they stick to their Mexican roots, many dishes pay homage to the Port Richmond (Polish) neighborhood, like their pierogies with cilantro cream sauce or the arancini with kielbasa. Their porkchop was next level! Would highly recommend. They also have a nice bar area, with creative drinks and craft beers. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Food was very good, bartender was courteous and welcoming, ambiance was romantic and relaxed.

Yelp
Found this cool neighborhood spot on a Sunday afternoon walk. Super friendly service from Frankie who recommended several great items. They don't have a huge wine list but had a few very drinkable selections. Their menus is so interesting that I can't wait to come back and sample more items. Pictured is the salmon guacamole which is fresh and fantastic, drizzled with the right amount or balsamic to give it a lovely not-too-sweet finish. I'll be back and will tell my friends to be sure to check it out.

Yelp
Run, don't walk! This place is incredible. I've been here twice for brunch and I can't wait to be back for dinner. The food was incredible. The empanadas were not to be missed. My favorite dish for brunch was the chorizo and gravy biscuits. The use Mexican chorizo and the gravy is flavored perfectly- over high standard biscuits. We each got a drink- Im so impressed with the execution of these drinks. They stand up to some of the best cocktail places with bigger names backing them. The service is outstanding. Out of this world. I couldn't have felt more welcome and at home. The ambiance is basic. It feels open, warm and clean.

Yelp
Great interior, friendly staff. We got two cocktails and arancini, pierogies, tuna tacos, and mussels and everything was delicious. Will absolutely be back!

Yelp
La Roma is a pleasant surprise! The food is deliciously different in a very good way! The renovations give La Roma a cool, relaxing vibe. Great place to chill with friends or take a date! The price points are fair for quality & the "on the ball" servers are extremely friendly! Not a bar to watch a game as there are no televisions. Just a great place to enjoy a great dinner!

Yelp
People are sleeping on the happy hour here. I'm sure the full dinner menu is great food as well

Yelp
Another date night at La Roma! Finally changed up my appetizer and entre choices! The Korean Beef Short Ribs app was SO good. And the Lobster Risotto was delicious down to the last bite. I finished the whole thing! Once again, the cocktails were amazing and we enjoyed everything we ordered!

Yelp
Great little bistro in the Port Richmond neighborhood. Good wine, beer, and cocktail selection. Small menu with a nice variety of seafood and meats. They have a couple vegetarian (but not vegan) pasta dishes and salads. As a pescatarian who eats limited dairy, I was able to find a couple good selections. Friendly service.

Yelp
Gorgeous place with amazing food! The staff couldn't be nicer. Can't wait to eat there again!

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and order a cucumber martini. Great drinks. The happy hour menu is a great deal. Food is always on point. My only complaint is that the wait for food can be a little long.

Yelp
Seriously some of the best food I've had in the city. The plating is beautiful, and every dish I've tried has so much flavor. Definitely one of my new favorite spots. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Food is amazing! We had appetizers, entrees, and dessert and everything was plated beautifully and tasted just as good! A new favorite!

Yelp
La Roma is a refreshing little bar/restaurant. We love their happy hours and are planning a brunch there soon. Food is impeccable, ambiance is top notch and the staff are some of the nicest people you'd ever meet. The drinks! If you try it for nothing else , go for a cocktail.
