"Santa Rosa’s somewhat rowdier side comes to life at downtown’s Mexican hot spot, La Rosa. The margarita menu is as long as your arm, matched by the beer and cocktail lists. Grab a seat in one of the cowhide chairs to gaze upon posters promoting Mexican wrestling matches and old Pedro Infante movies. Keen on a skinny margarita? We suggest the Cholita Linda, which swaps earthier mezcal for tequila. Big combination plates of everything from fajitas and tamales to birria and chimichangas seem designed for groups. And that’s ok because there is plenty of room inside and out for parties of all sizes." - Christina Mueller

Google
AMAZING experience! Such great food, everything was delicious and you can tell the ingredients used are higher quality than most. Can’t wait to go back, it was a total hit with my fiancé and sister(: We had a few margaritas and cocktails which were yummy too! The chips are thin and crisp, and salsa had the perfect amount of heat.

Cruz Torres

Google
The food was delicious, reasonably priced, and it did not take long once we ordered! The service was alright, I think the waitress could have came back a little for refills, but overall a pretty great first experience!

Google
Google led us here, but we left disappointed. The food is overpriced and had the vibe of a chain establishment. Our server barely checked on us, and the food tasted generic. With so many great walkable options in town, you’re better off choosing somewhere else.

Bette

Google
Excellent!!!!, the best chicken enchiladas I have ever had! Salsa was great. Margaritas were awesome as well! Can't wait to return, but unfortunately, live out of state.

Ashley Bryant

Google
Very good food. Great portions. Waitress was knowledgeable about menu. Great overall experience. If I had one thing to say that isn't entirely positive, it would be that it is very crowded. Not a lot of privacy when on a date.

Google
We had an absolutely amazing meal here. Erik was the host who helped us get seated outside which was a lovely setting. Our server, Alejandro, was so attentive and steered our food selections in the right direction. The food was delicious and I wish we had Mexican food this great in the east bay.

Sean Miller

Google
El Diablo Margaritas, red chili wings, and mushroom quesadillas were perfect. Love the vibe and the food. Friendly service was great. Can't wait to come back!

Google
The taste of the food is really important to me. I really didn't like my dish but that's because I don't like lomo saltado. That being said, I had lots of different appetizers as well as the fried ice cream and they were all mid. My friend said her dish was also nothing to write home about. So that with how expensive it is, I'll go elsewhere. Our server was awesome though, very nice and hardworking.

Yelp
We had our Christmas luncheon at LaRosa and I was totally impressed. There were 17 of us and every single one of us had an excellent meal.! This was my first experience at La Rosa and I will be returning time and time again and take my friends with me ! The service was amazing for 17 of us. They had water and drinks and salsa and chips, nonstop Every single one of us Enjoyed our meals that are not only tasty. They are generous, and most of us were able to take a little bit home for another nice remembrance of how good La Rosa is.

Yelp
Scoring System: 0-3 Food Quality = 3 0-3 Service = 3 0-3 Ambience = 3 0-3 Cleanliness = 3 0-3 Likelihood I'll Return = 2 Total divided by 3 = Star rating 14/3 = 4.6 I'm going to give them a four because I can't do half stars on this application While the service was great, one of our dishes came out wrong. Not a biggie, and mistakes happen. The food was also pretty spicy, but not obnoxiously. I ordered the Taco Salad and was surprised that, this too had heat. Great restaurant, good service, nice ambiance and good food, just a little on the hot side for me.

Yelp
We had not been here in a long time and decided to check it out. We arrived at happy hour time on a Sunday @ 400 pm. We were promptly seated outside and the server, Cassie came by and took our drink order. Cassie was a great server and was very attentive and efficient. There were four of us and I ordered a combo of Chili Rellno and a cheese Enchilada with rice and beans. My wife and another individual both ordered the Chimichanga and the other person ordered a Carna Asada burrito. Chips and salsa came out before with ordered and they were both great! Cassie asked if we wanted any more chips and salsa and we said, "Sure, but just half a basket". I was surprised to see a $2 charge for half an order of chips and salsa. I have ALWAYS received free refills wherever we go. I did not say anything as it was just $2 but had we been advised of the charge, we would have not gotten the chips. Both individuals liked their chimichanga and the carna asada burrito got a thumbs up. I enjoyed the chilli Rellno but it was flat and did not have a lot of the poblano flavor but everything was hot and tasted good. I would not go back just for that as I am on a mission to find the best one in Sonoma County and this is about the middle of the list. The cheese enchilada was cheesy and hit the mark as far as cheese enchiladas go. I then ordered a Coconut flan with whipped cream and shredded toasted coconut. Yummy, that was good and spiked my glucose but it was worth it. I enjoyed our meal and would eat there again but we just don't go downtown very often.

Christopher R.

Yelp
Amazing food, very attentive staff... Had the chile verde chicken burrito... I kid you not, maybe one of the best burritos I have ever had. Rice and beans exceptional, that's where other restaurants lose my interest. I will make that burrito!

Val S.

Yelp
Went back a year later and still impressed with this place. The service was still fast and friendly, even though it was very busy. On a Monday! Love the dark, cozy vibe. House margarita was good, but what really stood out was the carne asada taco. Delicious!

Tia V.

Yelp
Went here with a group and it was great. I ordered the steak salad and it was very filling. They give you a good amount of steak and the dressing was fresh and flavorful. They have a nice selection of items on the menu as well as the drink menu. My stomach did hurt later that night so I don't know if something didn't sit with me well.

Ashley M.

Yelp
Came here late Saturday night about a hour before they closed and had a great experience with service and food! Service was great and fast. Food was amazing! We just had an appetizer and entree and food looked so good that I forgot to take a photo. We had the fundido and enchiladas and both were very yummy. I will definitely come back here since it was good vibes here and very yummy food. The restaurant is filled by families eating out and it was busy inside for being 9pm! You can also sit inside or outside! Definitely recommend.

Oralia R.

Yelp
Amazing food, carnitas were the bum, Pozole tasted just like my mom's home made Pozole, the Chile relleno plate was also delicious. Taquitos Dorados is a must, that is one of my favorite starters and La Rosa makes them delicious. Service was fast considering how busy it was. Ambiance is is casual, perfect place for big gatherings. 5 stars for this business,

Brooke R.

Yelp
This is one of our go to Mexican restaurants. The service is great and super friendly! Great atmosphere and perfect place to hangout to have drinks and food. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The food is amazing!! It is soo good! I forgot to take pictures of our Modelos and the amazing chicken wings. The chicken wings are perfect, they have some spice to it and the flavor is just amazing! I highly recommend coming here!

Amanda W.

Yelp
Very delicious! Strawberry margarita went down too easy, the esquites appetizer was absolutely divine, and I opted for the split steak and shrimp fajitas but honestly wish I just got the steak, it was that good!! I tried my friends queso fundido with the chorizo and that was definitely a hit too! Chips and salsa for starter is a must. Super quick and friendly service. Fried ice cream dessert was decent - a good portion for the price - tasted like Cinnamon Toast Crunch to me, which isn't a bad thing. Casual dress up vibe. Indoor and outdoor seating. Parking is a bit difficult but we were able to find a spot not too far.

Lisa N.

Yelp
3.5 stars! I came here to have dinner with some friend. They have indoor and outdoor seating which was super spacious. I got the carne asada plate; it was just okay. We also ordered watermelon margaritas which were good but not strong. Service was a bit slow but friendly. Solid place to eat at if you're in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way to come again.

Yelp
-- location -- across the street from an ice cream and pie bar. -- parking -- must may on street or designated parking areas -- menu -- Mexican food! There's soups, salads, appetizers, entrees, combo plates, dessert. I saw tacos, quesadilla, nachos, fried ice cream, burritos, and more. Chips and salsa is not free ($4). I got the portabello wrap and it came with a choice of soup, salad, or fries. I picked the soup and picked the pozole. My meal was good! It came out warm, the cheese was oozy, and the flour tortilla was soft. It had some juices from all the veggies seeping through. The pozole was good. It had large chunks of meat. They provide a slice lime, lots of chili peppers, and chopped onion/cilantro on the side to add to our liking. -- overall -- I went with my coworkers and we enjoyed it. Our bill was able to split separately among us too. -- service -- good. He did forget to give me a soup spoon and my coworker a to go cup. But he was accommodating overall. -- seating -- lots and lots of tables and booths, indoor and outdoor available.

Yelp
My wife and I were in the neighborhood and looking for dinner. This restaurant was lively with lots of customers. The restaurant has great decor and the service was friendly. We enjoyed the guacamole and chips and salsa. The Carne Asada steak was delicious, but the rice it came with wasn't very flavorful. My wife didn't like the red wine. Looking forward to trying more restaurants on 4th Street.

Andrea D.

Yelp
Such a beautiful place! My family decided to go here for dinner and we weren't disappointed! My sister ordered the no-loma mocktail and said it was delicious. For appetizers, we ordered the Chile wings and nachos and they were plentiful and filled up the 4 of us. For our entrees, we ordered 3 carne asada taco combos ( with salsa on the side) and they were delectable. The meat was tender and delicious and the salsa had a kick but wasn't too spicy. My sister ordered the Lomo Saltado and she said she would definitely order it again. We got in fairly quickly and we loved the music playing from the market outside. Our server was very attentive and we got our drinks and food fairly quickly.

Jose A.

Yelp
Went in to watch the niners game, it happen to be happy hour. I took a seat at the bar where i was greeted right away by the bartender. I ordered a 2 margarita, spicy wings, carne asada and carnitas street tacos, the check was under $$50. The only thing that would have made it better was if the niners won.

Jodi W.

Yelp
Everything! Perfect Temperature and portion sizes! The flavor is phenomenal as well as the friendly service. Please Check it out! They won't disappoint!

Pam M.

Yelp
The chicken enchilada was good not great. It was made with green sauce and had radishes on the top. My friend got the carnitas but said it was very fatty. I was surprised that they charged for the chips and salsa. A lot of place if you order food it is part of the meal. I loved the salsa. The wait staff were very pleasant and helpful. The booth we sat in was quite comfortable and the temperature was just right.

Sue B.

Yelp
Came for dinner New Years Eve. There was some kind of competition in the square - a lot of people. We sat in the bar and server L. waited on us. Within 10 minutes the restaurant became very busy. L., and the back bar guy and the Bartender guy were working triple time to get people served. Seemed obvious that they didn't have enough people to cover. What I will say is when L. realized we had not gotten our food order she went straight to the kitchen - came to us and apologized. We were surprised that she noticed because she was all over the place. When the bar back guy brought our food he asked if that was what we ordered. They missed the tamale and he got right on it. We have been here several times and the food is great, the staff is awesome.

Melyssa G.

Yelp
It was my first time here. My friend said it was really good and I'd like it. It's located in downtown Santa Rosa and has the perfect spot. It's surrounded by other complimentary good eats, shopping at a park. We sat outside. It was jammed pack as there was a car show and ride happening. It was very lively. Even though it was super busy, the staff did a great job taking our orders in time and constantly checked in on us. The breeze started to pick up but they had outdoor heating, which made us very comfortable I was eyeing the food coming out to the other tables and everything looked so good. I ordered the Colorado Chicken Chili Verde and it did not disappoint. It was so good and there was plenty of it. My bestie had the Chicken Tortilla Soup and it was very flavorful. I would definitely dine here again the next time I visit.

Stephanie C.

Yelp
The best fajitas I have had anywhere in a 100+ mile radius. The ingredients are quality- tender steak and shrimp, not cheap and chewy and flavorless like a lot of places. Whatever marinade they use is incredible and the veggies are always perfectly sautéed. We crave them all the time! Great chips and salsa, and the margaritas are amazing!! Also love the pastor tacos, guac, and corn appetizer!

Julie M.

Yelp
Food is always good. We shared grilled chicken nachos and Colorado chili verde burrito. These are our go to staples for our family. So tasty and flavored really well. Never disappointing. Con - the menu cost for a lot of their items have increased. They are charging customers for their chips and salsa. We also had guacamole added to our meal, but oh my $15 for a small plate of guacamole. It was just ok a little on the bland side. I wish they could find other areas to allocate the costs such as the alcohol. Service was great. Our server was attentive and personable. Ambiance was lively but not loud especially with the SOCO market going on.

Elisa O.

Yelp
It was my first time dining at La Rosa. We were celebrating and it was a great spot to share fun, food and festivities! The food was tasty, the margaritas strong and the ambiance was great. We ordered lots of food. The servings were generous. Most of us had leftovers! The service was good. Parking was easy. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I highly recommend this restaurant for any fiesta- big or small!

Ella W.

Yelp
They accommodated a group of 10 people day-of. We made a reservation only a few hours before we came to dinner. The service was SO FAST! We ordered and received food within 20 minutes. I got the Risotto Relleno and it was SO GOOD. I would go back to have it again if I was in the area.

Gohar K.

Yelp
Had dinner while on a weekend getaway. Right next to our hotel was this beautiful Mexican Restaurant. The ambiance is amazing with a large bar and dining room, lots of seating and cute decor. My husband and I had margaritas that we loved. So delicious. The food was a bit salty for me, specially the pollo saltado that I chose to have. Tooo much soy sauce marinate on top. The wings were good and so was the fajita plate. Great customer service, our waiter Yoceli was amazing. Overall a great place to hang out, drink and have a good time. Right at downtown Santa Rosa.

Sean J.

Yelp
This is a great restaurant if you want to enjoy authentic tasting Mexican food in downtown Santa Rosa. We were able to sit outside on the patio and enjoy the music being played from the downtown square. The waitress was attentive and made sure our water glasses were never empty. The guacamole was freshly made, with a good amount of onion, celery salt, and a touch of spice. The tortilla chips were warm and crispy and came with salsa that was chunky and flavorful. For drinks, we got a michelada a with modela negro that has the perfect amount of tomato flavor and Tajin on the rim. The Rosa Rita is their house margarita and had Cointreau added in for extra kick. The Chile relleno was extremely flavorful, with a thin layer of batter on the Anaheim pepper. The Jack cheese melted inside the pepper when friend and retained its slight sweetness and melted well with the ranchero sauce. I will be returning to try more of the dishes and enjoy more drinks on the extensive cocktail list.

Yelp
Took my niece here for her 25th birthday. The food was yummy, lately it has been consistently yummy which is awesome. I had the chicken tortilla soup and a shredded chicken dorado taco ala cart. My son had the chicken verde burrito which was delish. The birthday girl got the asada plate which was phenomenal as far as how it was cooked and seasoned. My other niece had their chili wings (which I didn't try because they're too spicy for me lol but my niece loved them) Service was awesome we had Bianca as our server who made sure my nieces birthday dinner was special. Nice vibes lots of air flow in the restaurant. They do have a bar on the street side of their location that opens up to the street so on hot days it's like your outside on your patio with a drink! I took one star for the $$$

Jair B.

Yelp
In my opinión I didn't t like the restaurant because the service was really bad we were waiting for 30 min just for are drinks so I really think that it was a bad service and also they were a lot of people passing by us and they ask me what I was going to order or anything ,After 20 we decided to left the restaurant and they stop just for 4 dollars .

Andreea T.

Yelp
Whenever I don't really know what to eat, I usually end up at La Rosa, ordering a classic dish like Cheese Enchiladas or Pozole. Those two are my favorites, the steak salad is also really yummy but I don't agree with their choice of cheese. I tried tacos and burritos, but I found those being quite average. Pozole is hard to get right and it's spicy and comforting on a chilly day. The cheese enchiladas are just classic - the chef definitely knows how to make this one great. The only downside of this restaurant is that it can get pretty busy, the servers are often unprofessional and the quality of the food is not always consistent. However, I find it better than a lot other restaurants in the area.

David H.

Yelp
What happened?? Before the pandemic, my family and I used to go here a lot after church. It was good. A few weeks ago my daughter and I stopped by after church and quite frankly, it was horrible. NEVER AGAIN!!

Gina H.

Yelp
Had a last minute get together with a couple of coworkers/friends and we chose a well known place downtown. La Rosa use to be the old cantina. You would only know this if you've lived in the area for a long time. I got the taquitos & I felt so bad for them. lol They were wimpy looking and made fried by a rookie chef. Beware! I believe they're over priced due to the location. If you desire chips and salsa, you'll now have to pay $3.50. We wanted chips and salsa, which we ordered, & than we wanted guacamole. When checking out, I thought it absurd to charge $15 for guacamole & $31 for a chili relleno. I considered paying this price for some quality time with my people.

James T.

Yelp
Just moved here so finding a really good restaurant that serves outstanding Mexican food was one of my priorities. What immediately drew my attention, were the photos of the interior, the ambience and the yummy entrees. We read several reviews and the combination plates were the most talked about. We were not disappointed and for sure look forward to trying out the whole menu. I had the birria enchiladas with chili relleno even the beans and rice all of it was so yummy went thru chips and salsa even with the entree had to clean up the beans with the chips. Even tried my girls carne asada tradicional which was very tasty I liked the added touch of salsa with spring onions. If you check out the menu there are so many things that sound and look amazing like poblano shrimp pasta or coconut mariscos to the ceviche and other Peruvian inspirations. This is an easy recommendation price was mid range $$ worth the flavor and portions and service.

Tory M.

Yelp
Good food. The bathrooms are clean. The parking is absolutely a disaster because it's downtown but there's a really cute patio. I like this place but things were a little on the spicy side. They're really accommodating.

Liz S.

Yelp
I would say my experience was closer to 4.5 stars--very pleasant and exactly what I needed during a long road trip. My mom and I swung by for dinner during a recent trip up the coast since they allow dogs to sit with you outside on the patio, and we had our pup. They got the heat lamps going for us and it was rather enjoyable. We were the only ones out there. They even gave our pup a bowl of water, which was much appreciated, thank you! For drinks I went with the Cucumber Cooler, since I usually prefer refreshing cocktails that are subtly sweet. This drink includes Correlejo Blanco, orange liqueur, fresh citrus and cucumber water ($14). Served in a tall glass on the rocks. I would have preferred a slightly less sweet drink, but still enjoyed it overall. (Most people would probably think it's the perfect amount of sweetness.) For food I chose the Pacific Veggie Burrito, without dairy, to make it plant-based ($19). The generous burrito was filled with seasonal veggies, guacamole, black beans, and salsa, and it came with a side green salad. The burrito was flavorful and very satisfying. I prefer my salads lightly dressed (there was a little too much dressing for me), but I still managed to eat most of it. Service was good, everyone was friendly and helpful. It was a nostalgic moment since my family had dined at this restaurant 19 years prior on another road trip up the coast. I believe it was called something else at the time. I'd be happy to stop by again if I'm in the area in the future.

Jelani T.

Yelp
Dined with a large party nestled in by the front door after 100k tour de Fuzz in Santa Rosa. Service great and the food was delicious. I had the grilled steak fajitas and the steak was well seasoned and exceptionally tender. I believe it's the same steak in the Peruvian stir fry which a friend ordered.

John C.

Yelp
don't know that I've ever heard the term gourmet Mexican food.... This is a SOLID Mexican experience, the atmosphere, the staff, the vibe, the food/presentation all top notch. Chevys, a block away needs go by way of bell bottoms, yuk.

Bella D.

Yelp
Whenever I get a craving for Mexican food this is my go to place, Dennis the bartender was my server today and was very sweet and overall had great service!

Dc P.

Yelp
Amazing food and great service. The place is huge but you it doesn't feel crowded. We were in town visiting from Atlanta and looking for a place to get some great Mexican food and margaritas. This was an excellent choice. Food and drinks were fantastic. I had the carne asada and the flavor was perfect. My dad had the chimichanga and mom had the Risotto relleno and they both loved their dishes. The queso is also fantastic. Definitely a must have every time I'm in the area.

Anne J.

Yelp
I've been here twice now and each time, it's been a horrible experience. The food today - chicken fajitas- was absolutely inedible. the chicken was hard and rubbery. Tasted like plastic and it had the texture of rubber! My son who's a general manager at a well known restaurant laughed. He said he'd never seen chicken like that. I sent it back to the kitchen and the waiter said the kitchen tested it and agreed it was bad/inedible. To make matters worse, they charged me $13 for a small portion of beans and rice! Really? come on! Not my fault their chicken was inedible. (It really was that bad) Bottom line, we've been here twice and each and every time the food was AWFUL. I'm never going back. To top it off, the waitress never came back to check on us or to refill waters. No service! Don't waste your money here. There are far too many other (nicer) places to go.

Andrea B.

Yelp
First off my three star is based on my past few experiences, I have enjoyed La Rosa over the years. My last few experiences have been lacking, but my most recent one I'm still paying for. I went on Sunday with family, I got the chimichanga (a fried burrito), I'm not sure if it's their oil that needs to be changed out or what but I have been stomach sick since that dinner and it's now Thursday and I'm just barely eating because I can't keep anything in. The rest of my family got salads and fajitas. I was the only one with the fried burrito. Again I have enjoyed La Rosa, but I think there is some clean up they need to do throughout the restaurant.

Adina T.

Yelp
Delicious . Wonderful ambience . Great service . Was passing though town and a Sonoma state alumni suggested we stop here .

Jessica B.

Yelp
Food tasted great. Ordered to go and it was ready. Awesome service and felt comfortable and relaxed.

Tom S.

Yelp
Surprisingly good dinner. Ordered simply. Just a taco salad for me with roasted chicken breast. Barbara had a couple of GIANT tacos. Flavors were great. All was fresh and tasty. Even the complimentary big bowl of tortilla chips and red salsa were good. Had a classic Margarita cocktail with Codigo 1530 tequila. Strong flavor and reasonable alcoholic kick. So why surprisingly? I ate here a few years ago and the food absolutely sucked. Was embarrassingly bad. I don't know how they did it, now the food & service are top notch. This place might be my new favorite Mexican chow spot. Recommended!

Deanna C.

Yelp
Ordered some takeout. I've always been a super big fan of La Rosa. Tonight, we ordered their veggie enchilada and their steak salad. Both meals were worthy of a Michelin star in my non-professional opinion. The food was phenomenal, and that speaks volume since we ordered it to go.

Amy C.

Yelp
This place has usually been good in the past, but something is making it go downhill. I went there yesterday, they had no beers on draft and their bottle beer was very minimum selection; when you think of bottled beer you don't know how old it is so they did not taste right... I ordered the chicken taquitos, they were good but they were drenched in salsa so they came out all soggy, the tacos were not great either, the meat looked as it's been days old. Also I think I asked about seven times to get a water and it finally came out with my check.... Only reason I continue to go back is because the food is good but the service is horrible. They never cleared our plates, they did not ask if we wanted a refill on anything. Horrible.

Chanyaphon C.

Yelp
I had heard a lot of good things about this place so thought it was finally time to try it! Wow was it busy! We were still seated quickly, even with a party of 6, since it's quite a big restaurant. I will say that service here was 10/10! Our server was so sweet! She was easy to chat with and was very patient! She made our experience great. Highly suggest ordering their drinks here. We got a pitcher of their classic margarita and it was so good! It's strong but still had a good flavor! 1 drink was enough for me. We all ordered the combo plates and while the price can be $$, it is definitely worth it for the amount of food you get and the overall tastiness. I got the single tamale plate and it was really good! l wish there was a little more sauce and some flavor in the chicken but still really good! I'll definitely be coming back here again to try all their other dishes!

Jenn M.

Yelp
Gorgeous gorgeous girls - order salads where ever they go. La Rosa has the BEST steak salad in all of Sonoma County. Steak, bacon, avocado, a house margarita and a side of chips. A heavenly combo.

Emmanuel S.

Yelp
Amazing food, never ever had such great food in San Jose but La Rosa beat my expectations. Love the deco and vibe and amazing staffs. Dennis our waiter was amazing in recommending Risotto Ralleno , mind blowing taste and extremely savory. Thanks Dennis the menace! For recommending this dish.Must try restaurant in Santa Rosa and stay at amazing Hotel E just beside each other.

Sean H.

Yelp
Rosie V was our server, she was great. She made great recommendations, provide a great service, and has a very nice personality. The margaritas were really good, and the best chips and salsa I have had in a while. Chips and salsa aren't free, just in case you're use to that., but get the salsa because it's one of the best I've had. The taquitos were a bit soggy, but the Aji tartare was delicious. The restaurant was clean and the food came out super fast. Overall, I recommend La Rosa.

E V.

Yelp
Servers and bartenders are very attentive and quick. Happy hour menu is full of great options. The restaurant from my two experiences doesn't ever really get too full, but don't let that deter you. This place has amazing food and drinks. Every time I am in Santa Rosa, I stop here.
