Walking through the Negresco’s stunning art gallery set the tone for what we hoped would be a memorable dinner at La Rotonde. The setting is gorgeous, and the champagne was excellent. There were some standout dishes — the foie gras was incredible, and I loved the salmon tartare with mandarin sauce and little pancakes.
Unfortunately, the experience was inconsistent. One person in our group ordered the avocado and kiwi starter with granola, which had a slimy texture and just didn’t work. When she mentioned it was “so-so” to the server, the response was a polite smile, the barely touched plate was taken away, and that was it — no follow-up or offer to replace it.
The lobster spaghetti was also disappointing — bland and forgettable. To make matters worse, despite flagging my nut allergy, I had a reaction after dessert. The staff insisted there were only almonds, but something triggered it. I ended the night with Benadryl and had to skip the rest of the evening.
Overall, a beautiful place with some great moments, but the service fell short, and the food was hit or miss — not what we expected from such a historic location.
