Tri-tip sandwich right off the bbq on Garlic Bread! I’m so glad we stopped it was worth every bite. The rest of the place is a clean and plain small general grocery store and parking is very limited.

Five star deli and service. Best Hot Pastrami on the peninsula. Daily specials and Nanas potato salad will never disappoint.

I had heard a lot about this place for years, and I never got around to go in there. At first glance it’s a very nice and clean deli. Kudos to the employees that are maintaining the kitchen. The shelves in the store are sparsely loaded with merchandise. However, they do have a few unique items. The prices are higher than average I purchased a Reuben sandwich and my surprise it did not come with thousand island. The cheese was not Swiss. It was provolone and it has pickles and peppers. Very unusual for a Reuben. The meat is not stacked as it typically should be. I also got a mortadella cold sandwich Perhaps my expectations were too high.

First time here I ordered a pastrami and it was delicious. My first observation was a long line of people followed by one of the cooks toasting the French bread over a hot outdoor grill. Wow! Looking forward to trying out other sandwiches. Plus staff is super friendly.

Tri tip sandwich with Swiss, bacon, garlic spread. Probably the best sandwich on the peninsula! Always made with the love of a Nonna The fact that this place is walking distance from the ocean makes for the perfect place to go for anything picnic prep.

I'll start this review off by saying, I'm from NY and I was impressed! I got a salami sub on whole wheat and it was pretty good. Fresh and great tasting mayo + mustard, the meat was fresh as well. The woman who helped me over the phone was friendly and had great customer service. The ambiance is reminiscent of NY delis/markets , which I miss so much. They have lots of drinks and snacks available inside the store. Easy parking too for quick pick ups. The only negative I would say is the bread was crumbly and tasted a bit old, but I did go at the end of their business day and NY bread/subs are tough to live up to lol Great job La Sala! I'll be back. :)

I absolutely LOVE a neighborhood market/deli... and this place is, hands down, our favorite! Trust me... drop whatever you're doing and go try the turkey and swiss on Dutch crunch bread with all the toppings. (I personally leave off the jalapeños off because I feel the pepperocinis are enough. But to each their own!) The sandwiches are huge and a great value. (As a mom of four teenagers, that's incredibly appreciated... the kids will often take two days to finish their sandwiches.) They also have salads and freshly made soups... my favorite is the tomato basil when they have it; call ahead, though, if you want soup because sometimes they sell out... which is a great problem to have as a business! ;) The owner and staff are super friendly and make you want to keep coming back. Eat there or take it to go... just make sure you try this place!

Fantastic and reliably good for years! Why on earth would someone go and spend at a place like the "underground train chain" when for the same price you get the quality of Bi-Rite? It's no contest for me. The only ding would be depending on who makes your sandwich, ingredients might be a little bit too heavy in the middle and don't quite reach the edges of the bread. Seriously, that's my only gripe. Great food at a great value!

I think this has been a local business for quite a while though I'm only a year into living in town. They have new specials everyday that they start serving at 11 am. And they have tables set up so you can eat there if you like though I never have personally. Staff has always been kind to me and seemingly very very busy. I loooove their sandwiches - I'm a poor boy girl but I tried their calamari steak, BBQ chicken and Philly cheese steak and was pleasantly surprised. California prices for a sandwich for sure but we do live in an expensive state. They also have tons of chips, snacks, drinks and convenience store items like Tylenol if you need some in a pinch

Here on vacay and on last day saw this place...even the Lyft driver said it was awesome. Cannot wait to revisit the city and chow done on some more delicious sandwiches...by the way the chocolate chip cookie so addictive!!!

I found this spot by chance and I am so glad I did. I ordered the hot pastrami sandwich and it was divine. This place gets pretty busy right at lunch time but they take phone orders for those who are squeezed for time. The lady at the cash register was very friendly, along with the entire staff, but her service stood out. I can't wait to visit this place again, like next week.

I ordered a veggie sandwich on sourdough. It was right up there with the best. The sprouts and avacodo was bursting with flavor and fresh.

It's a great place. Tasty sandwiches and good daily specials keep it from being boring. Ample seating in or outside. And geez, everyone is very friendly and welcoming. Always impresses friends when we need a quick bite

Nice place to get a sandwich at lunch! I've been here numerous times but finally had time to post a review. The place always seems busy because the sandwiches here are wonderful. Fresh baked bread, and the toppings are plentiful. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Since this is a market, you have a large selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. I did not see a restroom inside nor did I ask for one. I ordered two sandwiches (vegetarian & egg salad) chips and a drink. I'm always sad they aren't open till 7pm for dinner. Price: $24.50

I was off early on Friday and decided to take a stroll to get sandwiches at Bi-Rite. I have not been there since before the Pandemic. Calamari sandwich but grabbed a cod sandwich as well. I was handed both sandwiches, they were premade so extremely quick service. Neither disappointed. I will go back again. Amazing food and service. Both sandwiches came out to a little less than $30 and well worth it!!!

Solid sammies! We tried a house special, the Monterey Tri-Tip sammie. Generous portion off really tasty tri-tip, along w/ mayo, onions, and peppers. Excellent. Maybe better on a sourdough roll than the sesame? Also got a custom made turkey with avocado and bacon, along w/ provolone and the fixings. Very good!! First time customers, so we tried not to get run over as folks darted in and out. Place kind of had a "Locals Only" vibe about it, too. Otherwise, damn good sammies. Cheers! RS

La Sala's probably has the best sandwiches on the Peninsula! We've been going there for years. Take your sandwich, go sit by the ocean, and enjoy! The staff are always friendly as well.

Just as I rmembered. Probably around 10 years ago I last grabbed a sandwich there. I don't know why I don't go here more often but it will definitely be on my short list of lunch spots. Great customer service, plenty of fresh ingredients piled on to a fresh Palermo Bakery roll.

The sandwiches are good. That's why I've been here numerous times and have referred numerous people here. I frequently come by after job 1 on way to job 2 for the evening to get a hot sandwich. I've never had a problem with timing until two different people I've never seen before are now working the sandwich station and register. It seems now I'm always too late to get a hot sandwich if I'm there after 4:30 even though I can still get a cold sandwich after 4:30. I've been there before 4:30 on occasion and have still been turned down for a hot sandwich because the microwave has already been cleaned for the night or some excuse. I was offered the ability to call in the order as I am on my way but then I'd be ordering a hot sandwich that's getting cold as I make my way there. I miss the old crew. Not happy with whatever staffing, family, or new owner changes have been made. I'm done.

Sandwiches here are great but their chicken isn't the best. The breading on the chicken is always a soggy mush even when ate immediately. Ingredients are still fresh. Natalie's brand juice in the market is delicious

Tried to special today which was the chicken parmesan sandwhich. I was super excited, however, it was very overcooked and chewy. I couldn't even finish it. I'm hoping the next time I try it, it'll be better. I usually get a basic turkey sandwich and it's always been great! Sometimes (rarely) I feel like branching out and trying new things -- although I regret it this time!

The sandwiches are great, and the customer service is wonderful. Every chance I get, I go get a sandwich. I like their version of the Italian beef sandwich.

I received this from Yelp today. Have I never reviewed Bi-Rite?? Wow. 20 stars across the board. Local business that makes amazing sandwiches to order. Whatever you want in a sub, they've got it. Family run for more years than I know. I've lived on the peninsula for 23 years and haven't gone more than a month in all those years without a craving for one of their sandwiches. We grab our sandwiches, shop for our favorite chips, or a new brand or style bcuz they have so many, get a drink and go straight to the beach (usually Carmel but our favorite Monterey beach is right up the hill). We see the same faces when we go, for the most part. Every time I've visited the employees are positive, kind, and helpful. It's family run and you can tell. Bi Rite is a Monterey staple for many reasons but most of all bcuz they serve a top notch product with top notch service. I'm drooling now. Please visit Bi Rite the next time you're on the peninsula and enjoy!!!

Wow!! So I was wanting a sandwich and searching yelp for a good place. I figured I'll go to subway but something stopped me and thank goodness it did!! This place was out of the touristy area. Definitely a small secret hole in the wall deli. You feel like a local when your here. Walking in my stomach growled at how good it smelled inside. We went on a Tuesday, I got just a turkey and bacon with cheese and my husband got the Jenny's special (chicken parm).. OMG it was soooo good. Quality meat lots of flavor and so good. The service was great and fast. They listened , worked fast and got the order correct. The cashier was friendly and welcoming. Had to go back the next day before heading home just to get another sandwich for the ride home. This time we both got bbq beef sandwich. My husband got his as is with bbq beef, peppers and onions, mustard, mayo cheddar cheese and I got mine plain with just the cheese and beef.. both sandwiches were large!!! Full of meat and flavor. My husband normally does NOT eat left overs at all especially sandwiches because he feels it's too soggy. He ate the other half of his sandwich next day and was still amazed how good it was even after. Part of me wants to tell you not to go because I don't want it ridled with tourist. I don't want them to lose the quality service and food but the other part of me couldn't wait to share this with you so that you can enjoy this place as much as I did... I can't wait to go back again!!!

Honestly, Some of the best sandwiches ever. I'm very partial to the ciabatta bread along with roast beef & provolone. Service is prompt but not rushed. Grab a sandwich and take it to the beach. Nice selection of chips and beverages.

This long time family owned market is the best in town. Their sandwiches are fresh and the service is outstanding. I love this place so much I order at least 2 times a week. They have tables to sit at and it is family friendly. Their sandwiches are perfect to eat in house or take to the beach just across the way.

We stopped here on our way to meet family at Pebble Beach. Four weeks later, I'm still thinking about that turkey and avocado on Dutch crunch sandwich. Sandwich making is such an understated art and it's done really well here. I wish I had a photo because it was seriously pretty. Do not sleep on the olives! The guy at the register was SO warm and welcoming; really brought it to 5 stars. Will definitely be back when we're back down there.

La Sala's for the win! What a cool lil deli market... they have a variety of delicious hoagies and market snacks / drinks. I love their pastrami and often get their soup, as well. I discovered La Sala's one time when I was trying to go to Randy's Sandwich Shop but it was closed and have been back regularly since (every time Randy's is closed). The sandwiches are always great and I love the variety of snacks and drinks I can pick up from the market. They have a few tables that you can use to eat in but mostly they are take out. Might see ya there!

I went to bi-rite today for the first time! I just moved here from slo county and was nervous about looking for a new deli! This place did not disappoint. I got a hot pastrami and added different toppings on Dutch crunch and got some Macaroni salad. This was so good I will definitely come back!

Hands down the best sandwiches in Monterey, i recently got this place recommended to me and I've been going very often. The people who work there are so nice and polite. the service is always good!

The absolute best place to get a sandwich in the central coast! Trust me this is a Thursday tradition that I wish I could do more often. Once I switch my places from employment from down the street I don't go every week however we still go at least once a month and drive the sandwiches back to Salinas! Plain turkey, tri tip and calamari sandwiches to die for!!! You will thank me for this, but run! Gag there fast you won't regret it! The people are amazing like absolutely friendly and super awesome. Once I take some pictures I'll update my review because y'all deserve to see these masterpieces!

Mr Frank here : My friend and I we talk about places we eat. some places have good sandwich shop others pre-tend they have one. I meet the owner her name is Jenny very friendly. I had a Roast Beef sandwich on sesame roll.it had so much flavor I would by it again or try a deferent sandwich. I well go back.They have lots of choices It's a nice Deli if want a good sandwich, go there, people are nice and friendly. Ill be Back....

Wonderful food and wonderful service but not wonderful air conditioning. It's WAY TOO HOT in this restaurant (at least in July)!

***GROSS*** This was very DISAPPOINTING!!! The breakfast sandwich had very little sausage & mainly all fake eggs. The only thing good about the breakfast sandwich was the bread. Don't waste your money on this. Hit up RANDY's sandwich shop way better!!!

Without a doubt, the BEST HOT PASTRAMI sandwich in all of Monterey county! We go all the time for their calamari sandwiches as well on Friday's but let me tell you.... Their Pastrami is the absolute best ever! If you are craving a sandwich... this is your place. Don't even bother looking anywhere else!

Great taste of the local cuisine... Stopped by here because I was stranded at the comfort inn. That's an odd statement... Stranded at the comfort inn lol. No ropes involved. Got the Italian sausage special. wish I had more time to stay in town and try the barbecue beef. I've never had mustard on a sausage sandwich, but they make it work. The people are super friendly and very helpful. I really like that you get to pick your own bread.... Especially because the bread is delicious.

I love a good sandwich! This is a great little hole in the wall in Monterey. It just happened to be down the street from where we were staying. My go to sandwich is a pastrami on a roll, but the fact they had Dutch crunch was a bonus! My wife got the Italian beef and it was good, but nowhere near the fabulous pastrami on Dutch crunch!

Disappointed. I have been coming here for years and almost always get the tri tip, which they make themselves, it's always very good. They did not have that today so I went for the meatball. I asked the counter girl if it was a pre made frozen product, she said it was. I decided to take a gamble on it anyway. She asked if I wanted red onions, black olives, and pepperoncini , I said yes. 12 dollars later, I'm out the door. Upon unwrapping in the vehicle, the smell was off. Tasted it anyway, and could barely get through half of it. Frozen, processed, low quality meatball, bland red sauce, and very little veg. I'm writing this in hopes that whoever is responsible for ordering this product will fix this obvious oversight at bi-rite. You guys usually rock! The one star is for the staff, helpful and friendly as usual.

3.5 stars for me. While in Monterey, I was looking for a good sandwich shop in Yelp and found La Sala's. Stopped by to grab a sandwich and Fanta to take with me for a sunset meal on the beach. I chose the Italian Beef with all the fixings. I think I may have messed up the order as my sandwich didn't seem to have a few items - the pepperoncinis or mayo/mustard. So the sandwich ended up being good but missing that extra kick to be really good. As noted, it may be my fault.

Delicious! I ordered a Ham and Cheddar sandwich with everything on it (white sesame bread). I am new to the area. I happened to have a haircut appointment near this market. I was recommended to check out this place. Very glad I did! Place is clean and QUICK in making your food. The sandwich was flavorful and filling. I will definitely be coming back!!! YUM
