Yelp
The restaurant looked lovely and very trendy, and the staff really wanted to make it right. However, we truly regret doing the 8-course tasting (No. 8 on the menu). I gravitated towards the description, "creative and imaginative," as this was intended to be a birthday treat. As the meals came out, we were shocked to be consistently provided with a "smoked fish" taste (ravioli, rice/risotto, and straight up fish). We expressed our disappointment in a kind way to the staff and they truly wanted to continue to make it better. However, at the end of the day this tasting didn't live up to the vision provided. The owner, who is passionate about her restaurant and kind to speak to us, explained that mackerel and eel are very distinct tastes, and it is something that foreigners may not understand. Despite the curious remarks, it was expected from us that a tasting menu should be unique and selective (as described on the menu), and also perhaps provide very different tastes. Also not to be total snob, but mackerel and eel aren't deemed superb options. In the end, seems as though the move is to order what speaks to you on the menu and avoid the tasting menu. We enjoyed the tiramisu and heard neighboring guests gasp with excitement about their meals. Just trying to be real.
