The Best Bars in Quebec City | Eater Montreal

"The Stoneham location for this brewpub is a popular hangout for a refreshing pint after a long hike or a ski in the Jacques Cartier trails. The original Limoilou location is a great place to soak in a local, younger crowd serving styles that cater to all types of drinkers, and great pub grub too." - Allison Van Rassel

Google
Delicious poutine. However, I wish the servers came to refill our water more often. This wasn’t an issue for me but be aware that the trivia can be loud with people clapping and cheering.

Didn't like this place at all. We visited on a Sunday night as tourists. The area was far and nothing interesting was going on. We entered and a waitress sat us. We were waiting 10min for a menu and another waiter came with attitude and told us we should scan some QR code. If you want people to scan you should tell them once they get there like any other places in the world!!! And then they went and didn't come back for a while! Since the place and the menu were nothing special and we didn't care for their bad hospitality, we prefered to walk back another 30min to a place that we are welcome at least😡 Don't recommend this place to any tourists.

Nice little place located in near a parking lot. Relax atmosphere with terrace, good food, and good beers with a wood cabin themed.

Google

Google
Great food. We had fried pickles and the regular poutine and it was incredible. We arrived in QC very late at night but this place was still open and ready to serve food and amazing beer. We had a great time stopping by here.

Google
Cute little pub style place, has such an awesome vibe! The staff here are SUPER SUPER friendly, and we’re quite helpful to us English speakers ! The food was AMAZING I got a cheeseburger with poutine ! Both were great but the burger was EXTRA good. Honestly 10/10 recommend. Definitely a good place to check out, and also a very happening spot.

Google
The employees are really kind and give good suggestions for drinks and snacks. I passed an excellent evening with my friend for over 2 hours straight. I was passing by the restaurant and my friend was there already. She took a beer or two. I took a beeramisu that was just so sweet and delicious. With the crème brûlée, it was to die for. Then I had a mix of many beers followed by a really well garnished onion soup. I feel like returning almost every week to try out any new items on the menu.

Yelp
We stopped by this place around lunchtime on our way back from Jacques Cartier national park. It's conveniently close to the highway and near several other food spots like Tim Hortons and a patisserie, so you can grab some coffee and sweets for on the road. The place is beautifully decorated with string lights and plants, staff were very nice and bilingual, and service was fast. I ordered the Boeuf (beef) & Bacon Poutine, one of my friends had the Vegan Poutine and my other friend had the Lumberjack (pizza + fries). My food was pretty good! I got the smaller size, but I still had trouble finishing it. My friend who had the vegan poutine said it was the best vegan poutine she's ever tried. The lumberjack is also pretty good, but much larger than the poutines, so my friend had trouble finishing it as well. Overall, I would recommend this spot!

Yelp
DECENT BREWPUB AT A GREAT LOCATION OUTSIDE CITY CENTRE! We went to La Souche for lunch. The beer selection is quite solid although we didn't get the "wow factor" from some other places we went during this trip (let's say it's a 3.5-star rating). We had fish & chips and pizza - typical pub food and quality is slightly below average (let's say it's a 2.5-star rating). The location is great. It's slightly outside city centre, thus you should be able to find nearby street parking relatively easily.

Yelp
The food here is so great as are the array of drafts. The service can be a bit snooty at times, but I think in general it's a great venue.

Yelp
Attention Americans: No USD or U.S. Credit Cards. Bring Canada bucks. That said. Phenomenal beers. All top quality. You can buy growlers here too. Though I wish the growlers had designs printed in to them (the glass). They are plain, no artwork or information. Pub fare food, all really, really good. -Fish and chips. -Burger. -Poutine. -Lamb. You know what I'm talking about... Nice atmosphere both inside and out. It's off the beat and path in the locals part of town. We really enjoyed it.

Yelp
I would avoid coming here with families. I'm an almost completely empty restaurant they insisted on putting us in the back corner by their service station and mop bucket. Beers are pretty good. I would recommend buying those at the market and skip going here.

Yelp
While visiting a good friend of mine in Limoilou, we ended up at La Souche because it was near his apartment. I ordered a pizza with a Sour beer, and they were both excellent. The pizza is not like the traditional Eastern Quebec style pizza, which is puffier and full of cheese, but more akin to a thin crust one. The base can be criticised as to cracker-like by some, but I thought it did the job well at delivering the sauce and cheese into my mouth. The beer was amazing, a very sour cassis beer, with a mineral finish. It was one of the best sour beer I had in a very long time. Would recommend it if you are in the area.

Yelp
Pretty cool place. Best part was the onion soup! Way different than usual but the broth was out of this world! The atmosphere was nice, kind of a hipster outdoorsy vibe. Service was slooow after we ordered. Waited about 40 min to get our food. I'd say you have to get the onion soup, no question. The poutine and hot sauces were good too. Solid place for a good lunch. The place is more like a 3.5 but I lean more towards a four than a three. The other dishes looked great!

Yelp
Excellent selection of beers that you can also take home with you. We had the double IPA which was delicious. The food was so so. The poutine arrived lukewarm with soggy overcooked fries. The salad was a bit meh. Come for the beer!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I always stop here when we are in Quebec. They have options for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans! The fried cheese balls for an app is a MUST! You will not be disappointed. We Will continue to come here every time we are in Quebec.

Yelp
An upscale brew pub slightly outside of the city center, it's hard to decide if La Souche is a restaurant with great beer or a brewery with great food. The poutine is award winning, in contention for best in Quebec with huge chunks of cheese curd that forms delicious strings on the fries. The thick savory gravy also washes down well with a strong smoked porter, brewed on site. Service was very friendly as well, even in English. The atmosphere and decor are reminiscent of a si lodge with lots of wood including the spectacular huge beer menu written on wooden slats.

Yelp
Found this place accidentally, but glad we did. Beer was very very good. We didn't try the food, but it looked and smelled good.

Everything was fantastic! I enjoyed the food and the service. Will definitely go back when I'm in QC.

Yelp
This is yet another place I don't get... I like the whole woodsy/one with the nature-kinda-look, but when it's done right... There is nothing right about this place. I will go in more detail, but the first thing that comes to mind is yuk...! The decor is so trashy... Everything used to construct this place was definitely reused material and put together by a blind woodworking student that just learnt how to use a hammer... Now lets talk about the smell... The odour emanating from the kitchen and bar area was not at all agreeable... To make things worst it was salsa/swing night... A room full of sweaty dancers... The ceilings are low, the wooden floor is definitely very old... On top of that the service at the bar was BAD... Two non-smiling girls working... Very.... Slowly... Just do yourself and favour and stay away.

Yelp
No foreign credit cards at all, so CASH or CA debit card. The ambiance is a bar so it is loud. We really wanted to unwind from a long day of travel and have some food. Because the place closes at 3am and we saw pictures on YELP of food we assumed we would be able to eat. They have a small appetizer menu which starts in the evening not sure at what time but we got there at 10pm. Then by 11pm when we decided our order fell short and we wanted more food we were told the kitchen was closed. I would give a three star for this because the servers should have communicated this to us and he should have also warned us about the payment issue but I can't take away from their great beer selection and convenience of the location it was literally down the street from our Airbnb. For the local crowd it seemed like a great place to meet up with friends and drink.

Yelp
Such a fun local place to hang out and enjoy different types of locally brewed beer in Limoilou neighbourhood. They have many beers to choose from including a few sour blends which I enjoyed. I was worried about my limited French but there was someone who spoke English so no worries there. If you are in the area this would be a great place to check out with friends.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, something on the menu for everyone from meat lover to strick vegan, food was good and you must try their deep fried cheese balls.

Yelp
Skip it. This place has definitely gone downhill over the last couple of years. The beer selection is still good, but it seems like they're trying to skimp on the food (smaller portions, meals were unremarkable), and the service, which was never great in the first place, is now infuriatingly slow and indifferent.

Yelp
Visitors from Toronto. Really happy our Airbnb host recommended this place! Weary at first about the area, but this place totally redeemed itself. As non French speakers, the servers were really nice to us and took their time to recommend popular food menu items (all in French) as well as drinks. My bf, who's an IPA fanatic, had the Triple IPA and said its the best Triple he's ever had. I had a grapefruit/watermelon cocktail recommended by the waitress which as delicious. We shared the chicken nachos and poutine with the jerky and fried cheese curd balls. Both so delicious. Great start to our short stay in Quebec City :)

Paul R.

Yelp
This place is wonderful. They only accept cash and Canadian debit cards. The servers were very friendly and accommodating to this English speaker. I felt the service was excellent. The vibe is an artisanal brewery with a great patio. They have a selection of 18+ beers on draught. The ones I tried were solid enough to be sold as six packs at a store. I was expecting "good pub food" but was really impressed with the quality and value of the food. The salad I had came with salmon, fresh strawberries, pumpkin seeds, fresh greens. If I lived in Quebec City this would be a regular stop for me, and this is where I would take visitors. I stayed in an airbnb within walking distance - and La Souche made me appreciate my airbnb more.

Yelp
First off if you start a conversation with your guests and you learn right away they aren't from Canada what do you think will be the next subject? Well if your restaurant doesn't accept anything but Canadian cash or Canadian cards shouldn't that be it? YES. We went to many other places and most were small businesses and we had no other problem anywhere and on top of it they don't even have an atm on site they have you take a walk down the road what a joke. That BS aside, the beer was mediocre. We had two flights of 5 small samples and a couple snacks. Out of 10 beers we only enjoyed 2, most beer very similar and nothing with great flavor or uniqueness. Food? Subpar, poutine was decent the only positive really was the amount of cheese. The pizza? Big Joke, no doubt an overpriced store bought pizza. Would love to see the cardboard box it came in. Out of the way and not worth it, HARD HARD PASS

Yelp
Terrific poutine and all the beers brewed on site. Porter and scotch ale were terrific. Kind even with our limited French. Cash and Canadian debit cards only

Katherine E.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere, and the service was fantastic - he was very patient with our broken French. We had a deal through our inn (Auberge Amerik), so we were able to select from a prix fixe menu. To start we had the house hummus with baked chips, and deep-fried cheese curd with sauce to dip. For the main course we had specialty pizza and specialty grilled cheese. We also enjoyed a sampling of 6 different beers between the two of us. Great selection and great food!
