Behind the Food in 'Crazy Rich Asians'

"Lunch At Peik Lin’s House Location: An Agong’s Palace in Kuala Lumpur Peik Lin’s mother, Neena, invites Rachel to “sit down for a simple lunch” in their sprawling Villa D’Oro. But See pointed out that the meal was anything but simple. “The lunch scene was filmed from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.,” he says. “Initially, everyone was so excited, but by lunchtime, we were so full.” The dining table was decked out with ornate gold platters piled with 12 to 15 types of food. These included chicken rice with four de-boned white chickens, vegetables with mushrooms, yong tau foo, lobster and prawn cocktail, soup in an intricately carved winter melon bowl and auspicious gold-hued pineapples stuffed with rice." - Kenneth Goh

The sandwich restaurant is located above brew and bread. You will have to enter the building main entrance on the left and take a lift to the mezzanine floor. I ordered the Prosciutto e Mozzarella and it was one of best sandwiches that I had. The bread was soft and fresh. And the combinations of the tomatoes, jamon and Mozzarella were just perfect!

The Italian sandwich? Absolute delish - savoury, comforting, and hugged by freshly baked dough that’s still warm to the touch. The staff are genuinely attentive and friendly, making the whole experience feel like a neighborhood gem. You can browse through imported goodies and wines to bring a taste of Italy home. A little indulgent on price, but the quality and vibe make it easy to say “yes” to seconds 😁

Really good selection of sandwiches and cold cuts, cheeses. There is always a wait time, sometimes up to an hour. The owners are really friendly and always at hand to recommend you what’s the best to order. The sandwiches are served on a piece of paper, totally fuss free. The focaccia is toasty and crunchy. The sandwiches that we ordered were all very good. Great place. Will come back to try other sandwiches.

No doubt the ingredients are fresh and of good quality. Bread is crusty and light. But neither of the sandwiches we ordered wowed us in anyway. The combination of ingredients and flavours did not impress or leave any lasting impressions. At RM50 a sandwich, we honestly expected more (and there was a big gaping hole in the bread on one of them). Other than the bread, the rest of the ingredients could be bought at any respectable deli and put together in minutes. Perhaps we just ordered the wrong items and should have gone for their signatures instead but what we had did not justify the hype in any way. Aircon was too cold, green tea was a Lipton teabag and we waited 20 mins for the sandwiches. The door staff was lovely, friendly and dealt with the crowd superbly.

Italian sandwich restaurant. They moved from Bangsar South to this new location not long ago. It seems very popular now, as there was a long queue when we left. The sandwich was absolutely delicious. We ordered the Prosciutto Mozzarella, L’Andrea, and Ariccia, all turned out great. I especially liked the Ariccia (roast pork). The bread used was of good quality. The Prosciutto Mozzarella was a bit too greasy though. It is a good idea to share a few flavours to avoid the jelak-ness of eating a whole sandwich of the same kind by yourself. The serving size is not as big as expected, manageable.

Damn the meat are fresh, good taste. Personally i like the pesto sauce one. The interior & environment is nice, but due to the table placements for business, i personally feel quite pack in a way. Like distance between another table is quite near. I mean it does happen to most of the top attractive fnbs. So this is one of them. We came on Saturday at lunch hour, many staff and very attentive. Just when not much services required to be done for customers, they seems like standing surrounding tables, which i was not quite comfort having my meal that way. 2 were just standing next to our table. 🤣😅 I hope we can have a more comfortable experience next time. Overally with that good taste of food, I would come again. But i might pick a more comfortable seat if there is choice. Portion quite big. The bread taste awesome! Bread lovers must try.

Once upon a time when La Spiga d'Oro was still conducting business in the common area of Pantai Panorama condominium, I had already made my way there. Despite the not-so-convenient location, we had a great time enjoying the authentic Italian food. Then they closed for a period of time before resurfaced - this time in a proper space on the Mezzanine floor of Wisma JAG in Taman Desa, right above one of my fav cafe Brew & Bread. We arrived early enough to be able to get a table as it was quickly filled up soon after. I took a peek at their display chiller to spot various cold cuts, cheeses and even wines. A dedicated section for wines and Italian produces located at one corner, and there are still spaces for many tables. This place is simply spacious. ◾Roma-Napoli RM46.00 - porchetta di ariccia (roast pork), smoked provola cheese, friarielli (roasted large green chillies). The combination of flavour really blew my mind that morning - the gentle smokiness from cheese, the savoury-ness of the thinly-sliced roast pork plus the slightly spicy chilly in between two heavenly schiacciata - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with a more compact texture that makes it ideal for making sandwiches. ◾Meat & Cheese RM75 - 3 meats, 2 cheeses, condiments, bread 2-3 pax. Love the various cold cuts but honestly the cheeses could not excite the taste bud, not even the parmigiana reggiano that Italian is so famous of. ◾Coffee couldn't make the mark for me, and I had to go downstairs after that to make it up. Price-wise a bit steep for everyday indulgence as it starts from RM35 onwards for sandwich. Menu is very simple with just schiacciata, salad, cold cuts and cheeses - which they are really good at. Leo's verdict - the sandwich was as good as I remembered, but the cheese was a bit of letdown this time.

My sister enjoyed our sandwiches- both the prosciutto and mozzarella and Il Re were excellent. Pricing wise, you’re looking at least RM40-60 per pax. Got taken aback on the 10% service charge though,. To us, there’s hardly any service from the wait staff. We had to line up to order and get drinking water on our own. Yes we were brought our sandwiches but we cleared our benches on our own too. Atmosphere wise cosy but not a lot of seating so the place gets crowded pretty quickly. Good food, authentic Italian cuisine but yes, you have to pay up to get in.
