Happy Hour: Montreal’s Best 5 à 7 Bars | Eater Montreal

"A favourite on the Masson strip, this Old Rosemont microbrewery has a list of continuously rotating beers that cover the spectrum from bright and fruity to robust, filling, and stout-esque. They also offer seasonal varieties (think strawberry beer in the summer) and a menu of light bites." - Erinn Blicher

The drinks are good, the food is basic, and the service was more than a little strange. I pay cash for the beer, they ask "do you need change?". I honestly didn't understand the question. "Do you want to leave tips?". Ah. But it's not how it's done at all, friends. You give the change by default without asking and I leave tips afterwards. This was very awkward!

J’écris ce review après plusieurs mauvaises expériences ici! On aimait cette place proche de chez nous avec pleines d’activités mais le service est vraiment mauvais ❌ I found a hair in my virgin mojito after couple sips (pic with 🔦). The waitress at first wasn’t taking us seriously, I joined my partner at the bar to insist, then she gets out her flashlight to see and offers us to make another one, at this point we already waited long (both to get served and to complain) and said cancel it we’re leaving, she then checks with her manager who comes and tells me it could’ve been your hair (my hair is in buns as shown in the 2nd picture) and then asks me are you splitting the bill or paying together, I then responded I’m not paying for a drink with a hair in it, they didn’t even apologize or talk to us in a nice way, his excuse is “you drank from it”, I guess I should apologize for not inspecting my drink before having it. The same manager who’s being cheap with us while serving himself a beer and shots behind the bar as well as his staff throughout the evening, maybe if you made your staff drink less mistakes like this won’t happen and I would’ve paid for my drink. Other reasons: one time they served us packaged chips as the burger side without prior notice that they’re out of wedges, most of the time the service is slow, the staff overly drunk to provide proper service… I can keep going. A place to cancel if you don’t want to have bad service and bad food.

In general good place. The nachos were very good. The best beer for us La Ronde (Barley Wine) then in this order : 1. Radshläger (Alt beer) 2. Maracuya (APA) 3. NEIPA 4. New Kid 5. Kama Citra (APA) 6. Mango (IPA) 7. Succursale 8. 1814 (Porter) 9. Milacek (Pilsener Tcheque)

After having a quick chat with us, the bar tender prepared a little beer tasting for us. His choice of beer was very interesting and got very much in the direction of our taste. Great job!

Nachos were delicious but oh my goodness they were huge tortilla chips. I can't decide if I liked that or not. The mai tai pa was an amazing twist on the classic mai tai cocktail. Can't wait to go again!

Beers are good and the ambiance. My only complaint is with the waiter/waitress that takes forever to cash out. More than one time I’ve waited 30 min at least for the bill. I always had to go and cash out myself. They should really improve this, is very annoying.

Yelp
Visiting Montreal I needed to pick one spot to enjoy microbrewer beer. Being a home brewer, I needed to get a really good taste of the Montreal beer scene. My research led me here. It's not easily reached by Metro, unfortunately , but if you know the bus routes or have a car or take a cab, it's well worth the journey. While there I sampled 8 different beers. I had the bartender give me her favorite selections so I got a nice variety from pilsners, kolcsh's to porters and stouts. The food I had here was also very good, but I went for the beer. I look forward to going back.

Yelp
Rue Masson out here on the avenue streets is small town sweet with a mix of stylish bistros and brasseries and older Quebec casse croutes and cremeries with the 60s signage that tugs at my heart-strings and feels like home. Succursale sits on a sunny corner across the street from a Renaissance, it's a long wide bar, similar in size to EtOh, and shares this bright modern post-pub feeling. (Don't get me wrong, I love a dim wooden cozy hole of a pub, but this other clean bright vibe has it's appeal.) We sat at wooden banquets in the bustling room and had just enough time to scan the chalkboards of home made beers and beer cocktails before a waitress came to take our order. Service matched the room: stylish, French, not overly familiar but unobtrusively exactly what you needed. The beers were pretty freakin great, and that's the most important thing. Big $6 pints of delicious Porter, English Brown ale, IPAAA and the guest star bottle of British micro-brew Jaipur was a treat, and, according to my more beer savvy companion, not found elsewhere in town. The tostada nachos came out quick and hit the spot but were just the basic cheese, olive pile you'd expect with a small side bowl of sour cream, salsa and a few peppers. Nothing to write home about but a satisfying snack to accompany some excellent beers in a chill, business and young-person friendly room.

Yelp
Went there earlier tonight with my boyfriend. There was only one waitress but she was super friendly and very helpful. She offered to explain stuff on the menu to us since it was all in French. The drinks we got were good and strong and the food was tasty.

Yelp
So far I have been fairly impressed with the microbreweries in Montreal. On our bike ride back from the Biodome, we stopped for a break at La Succursale, and the beer did not disappoint. The bar is clean and bright, fitting right in on a street lined with boutiques. That day there was a festival of some sort going on outside, so the atmosphere was lively and celebratory. We tried the cidre (delicious, but sweet enough where a verre is plenty), the hefeweizen, and the bunnweizen. Personally, I couldn't tell much difference between the two -weizen's, and think it might make more sense for them put a different beer on the menu to increase the diversity, but they were both tasty and enjoyable. The gentleman behind the bar was friendly, though after I asked if he spoke English (he did), he still would only speak French to me. If you're a non-French speaking tourist, go here expecting to point at things and to use your basic French to get by. Definitely worth a trip down Rue Masson, with a stop for some refreshment at La Succursale. P.S. Downstairs they have a machine that will test your blood alcohol--you blow in a straw into this machine and it gives you your reading. Totally worth the 25 cents in pure entertainment.

Yelp
Friendly server. Patio wasn't in the best location but was cute. We really liked the ATB but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back here. Didn't love the other beers we tried.
