This Coastal Town in Morocco Is Home to Otherworldly Salt Flats, Unspoiled Beaches, and Beautiful Flamingos

"The most gorgeous place in town to try the local delicacy is La Sultana's O Bar, which boasts a variety of oysters, as well as sea urchins." - Erika Hobart

After Marrakech, Go to Oualidia, the Montauk of Morocco | Vogue

"A private beach picnic on the two-hour drive from the Casablanca airport, the landscape doesn’t change much. Not that I’m complaining. There’s something otherworldly about Morocco’s sea of caramel-colored sand dunes. The driver takes a quick right turn and starts off-roading, weaving around rocks on a narrow dirt path. When he suddenly stops, I blink my jetlagged eyes. A Moorish, stone-covered fort—the village’s only luxury hotel, palace-style La Sultana Oualidia—stands guard in front of a lagoon, the sea roaring with foam-topped waves in the distance." - Lane Nieset

My experience at La Sultana Marrakech was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, I was warmly welcomed with traditional Moroccan cookies and a refreshing local drink, setting the tone for an unforgettable stay. The hotel itself is a masterpiece — beautifully maintained, full of character, and brimming with authentic charm. When I arrived in the room, I was delighted to find thoughtful touches like fresh fruit, cookies, and dates waiting for us — a small gesture that spoke volumes about the attention to detail and care the staff provides. Every member of the team was genuinely hospitable, always ready with a warm smile and a willingness to help. The concierges were truly outstanding, going above and beyond to ensure our comfort and happiness. They not only helped me book wonderful excursions but made sure I enjoyed every moment, personalizing the experience to our tastes. One day while exploring the souks, I found myself a little lost. To my amazement, a man who recognized us — a gardener from La Sultana on his day off — kindly helped guide me to our destination. This act of kindness perfectly encapsulates the spirit of La Sultana: a genuine commitment to making guests feel cared for, even beyond the hotel walls. One of the highlights of my stay was spending time on the breathtaking rooftop gardens. The views over the Kasbah and the distant Atlas Mountains were absolutely stunning — a perfect place to unwind and soak in the beauty of Marrakech. La Sultana felt like a sanctuary in the heart of the city, and I left feeling deeply grateful for the warmth, elegance, and impeccable service I experienced. I can’t wait to return! Xavier, Saida, and the whole team deserve the most in praise for all of their good work.

We had an amazing 3 night stay at La Sultana. |It was the beginning of our trip and it was a great place to relax and recharge. |La sultana has everything you need, amazing restaurant with local food and Rafik the waiter is fantastic. There is an incredible Hamman and Massage to loosen up with, and finally loads of activities such as ocean fishing, bicycles, paddle tennis, kayaks etc. |Finally everyone at the hotel is super friendly especially Yassine in the reception who can organise anything you need

Our family of five spent four nights at La Sultana Oualidia over the Easter break, and it was a truly memorable stay.||The hotel is set in beautifully maintained grounds, and the attention to detail throughout the property is exceptional. The staff were warm, welcoming, and went out of their way to accommodate us— even managing to source sea urchins out of season for our son to try, which was a lovely touch.||The food was outstanding, with the seafood platter being both a visual and culinary highlight. The spa treatments were wonderfully relaxing, and we especially appreciated that the indoor pool allowed children, as it was much warmer than the outdoor one— a rare and welcome feature.||We would highly recommend La Sultana Oualidia for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Morocco and enjoy some truly incredible food in a peaceful, luxurious setting.

TL;DR:|One of the most unforgettable places we’ve ever stayed—stunning views, exceptional hospitality, and a true sense of home and luxury. Perfect for relaxing, indulging, and exploring.||Full Review:||La Sultana Oualidia is hands down one of the most special places we’ve ever stayed. We love unique accommodations, and this one exceeded every expectation. The property is absolutely breathtaking, with incredible views and a peaceful, luxurious atmosphere.||The hospitality was next-level—every staff member made us feel truly special, like royalty in our own private retreat. Every single staff member we encountered felt like a friend; special shoutout to (pardon the misspellings) Houssin for the wonderful conversations, Hennan for her bright smile at breakfast every day, and Mustafa for making every dinner special. It felt more like a home away from home than a hotel. ||The spa is pure heaven - from the facility itself to the treatments. The heated pool, sauna and hot tub became our rainy-day sanctuary. The food was phenomenal, with breakfasts that were both generous and delicious.||We also loved the range of activities—biking, kayaking, and a cooking class were just a few highlights. Whether you want to unwind or explore, this place has it all.||Already dreaming of coming back!

We love La Sultana, it's a great hotel, with beautiful interiors and the outdoor areas are stunning. Our room was lovely, bed extremely comfy and we loved the balcony with the outdoor tub. The infinity pool overlooking the beach is a highlight and the different restaurants were amazing, both in terms of ambiance and food. The oysters were the best I've ever tasted and the breakfast exceptional!

Such a beautiful hotel and our room at the top was outstanding! Lovely staff across the whole hotel and fabulous restaurants offering a range of different cuisines. Very very keen to visit the beautiful lagoon again and also to try their sister hotel in Marrakech.

The property is beautiful in a very quiet location. The staff provided above and beyond service and the food was amazing, especially the Asian restaurant. If you want relaxation place before or after an otherwise hectic touring trip to Morocco, this is the place.
