La Table du Gourmet - Restaurant Riquewihr [JL BRENDEL]

I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaueant La Table du Gourmet in Riquewihr, Alsace, France. This stunning village is a pleasure to explore both by day and by night — and during the Christmas season, the evening atmosphere becomes almost fairytale-like, with beautiful festive decorations adding to the magic. From the moment you enter the restaurant, you are drawn in by an open view of the kitchen near the entrance, allowing you to see the team at work. Inside, the atmosphere is vibrant and artistic, with warm red lighting, elegant statues representing female dancers and performers, and striking works of art that bring real character and soul to the space. A small practical note: some of the exposed wooden beams are quite low, so it’s worth paying attention to avoid bumping your head. The service is outstanding — warm, smiling, highly professional, and very informative. From the very first minutes, the team makes you feel both welcome and well guided throughout the experience. We chose the vegetable-focused tasting menu, inspired by the restaurant’s remarkable garden, which features around 350 different fruits and vegetables. Each course centered on a single vegetable, elevating it in a truly spectacular way. Describing this experience with words alone is difficult — it is something that really must be lived. While the menu is primarily vegetable-driven, two or three courses included small amounts of animal protein, mainly fish or fish roe. As such, it is perfectly suited for pescatarians or for anyone open to a predominantly plant-based journey where vegetables take center stage in a truly magical way. This was without question one of the finest meals we have ever enjoyed in Alsace. A restaurant that comes with my strongest recommendation — and I will deliberately not reveal which vegetables are featured, to preserve the surprise for those bold enough to experience it themselves. An absolute must.

It's an absolutely stunning restaurant! I haven't had an experience like that before. It's an almost 5 hours experience in one of the most beautiful towns in Europe. Make a reservation and dress nicely.

This was a wonderful dinner. Very imaginative and unique dishes. They have their own farm and serve things freshly picked that day.

Excellent experience. Starting with the interior design, it's striking and energizing. Each dish has a strong accent, which might at times be overwhelming, however it doesn't take away from the adventure of dining at a place like this. Surprise and the unexpected are to the benefit of that. The dishes are well presented, the ingredients are locally sourced, including from the restaurant's garden and the quality is top.

Had a stunning lunch here! A red decorated restaurant. That is why the pictures are a bit reddish. Food quality is good. A lot of sweet desserts at the end. Price for menu was 100 euro and with all the amuse with it we thing worth the money. We recommend this place !

Outstanding experience. Every single dish was absolutely excellent. In our opinion (and with enough starred restaurants to compare), this place certainly deserves more than one Michelin star. Also, the service was absolutely professional. Wholeheartedly recommended!

Honestly not impressed, especially after experiencing the tasting menu at a 3 Michelin star restaurant in paris. The red everywhere gives the place a sinister vibe. I didn’t like a single dish. The cranberry on the cookie was wayyy too tart and had no components to calm that down. The service was also subpar; there were many times I had to wait a long time for a wine refill. Definitely not worth the money.

Great place. The experience was amazing, we have some recommendations from the somelier and she made a perfect recommendations, the food was unbelievable and the service was perfect. A place you should try.

Fine dining, extreme locavore experience. This place had a Michelin star at some point. Price points are high (around €200 for two with limited wine). Owner/chef uses many ingredients from hiillside farm right in Riquewihr. Certainly innovative and high level execution. One fusiony dish fell flat in our opinion. Expensive, but worth a visit.

Incredible dining experience had by my wife and me. Everything we ordered was an experience and the wine pairing was spot on. Only negative was getting a spot to park our car. Plan for extra time if you are driving to the restaurant.

Deserves its name. Highly entertaining: varied, delicious and surprising tastes. Ultra-courteous staff. Worth listening carefully to the descriptions of each item served. The best place we've found so far in Riquewihr (no backaoffa, choucroute or flammkuche).
