20 Essential Restaurants on Cape Cod

"La Tacodilla opened in 2020 and serves Mexican street food out of a food truck in West Dennis. Open Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday for lunch, chef and owner Jason Montigel works with his team to serve up chips and dips, mulitas (“Mexican grilled cheese”), street tacos, sides, and La Tacodilla’s specialty, tacos dorados, which include your choice of filling (the quesabirria is a favorite) in a folded, grilled corn tortilla with onion and cilantro. Round out your meal with churros and dulce de leche. First-come, first-served picnic tables are available for seating." - Anna Darrow

😋 🇲🇽 ¡Finger lickin’ bueno! Delicious grilled tacos and Mexican grilled cheese sandwiches (frankly, they were quite similar). We tried the braised beef, chicken, and the Brussels sprouts and all were equally delicious. The come with dipping sauces, a thin beef stock for the beef, a delectable, mild-medium spiced chile sauce for chicken, and a spiced, sweet potato purée for the Brussels. FYI the Mexican grilled cheese/sandwich order is a massive amount of food. Check it out! NOTE: If you order in advance at (busy!) lunch, be sure to ask them to cook right away and clearly check-in when you get there. We were told on the phone that it would be ready in 15-20 minutes and upon arrival, I went up and was told they would call my name but then 10 min. later, I heard them say “tell me when Josh is here” as for some weird reason, they didn’t cook in line with when we ordered. They were insanely busy so just all miscommunication and they were nice about it. They may want to ask phone orders to check-in, if that’s how they want to do it.

My wife visited this place with her friends today and brought home some tacos for me. Not only were they the best tacos I've had, but among the best food I've eaten. I'd dare to call it a religious experience (only other eating experience I've described this way was the first steak I had @ Wolfgang's Steakhouse in NYC). Not sure if the tears I shed were from how good the tacos were or from the spice...maybe both. Last thought: I need the consomè sauce injected into my veins.

May 1,2021.Currently take out only. I hope this hidden gem comes back. 2019: Hidden in a tiny shack in the middle of a parking lot is a true foodie gem of the Cape Cod. The nine course dinner was fabulous! The moans of the sixteen diners could be heard through the dinner " oooh this is so good". The sixteen diners sit around the table where chef Jason with the help of two helpers put the creative dishes together. The menu changes every month. Our dinner started with the local oyster with lemon sorbet and horshredish served on a rock covered with seaweed. A treat for the eye and the pallet. Some of the other offerings included a scallops and pork, chuck flap (pot roast) in a miso soup, sword fish. There was an optional course: fois gras to share. The meal ended with a cheese course and a desert. The bill for two people $243 including adminstrative fee which allows the tip to be shared by the entire kitchen staff and servers. This price includes the extra course but no wine pairing. This is a true hidden gem, I am so glad we found it.

Found this place on a whim and I’m so happy we did ! Service was great and food was even better! I wish I didn’t live so far! Great vegetarian options

Google
Where have you been all my life? Crispy, cheesy, succulent beef in a flavor bomb that just blasts through any preconceived notions of what a taco or grilled cheese should be. A must try when you're in or passing through Dennis. Even if you're on the other side of the galaxy, you should factor in a detour to try La Tacodilla lest you have regrets in the event of your passing from this life to the next. Great service, even greater food.

Awesome dinner. Jason and team have it down and the flavors are awesome. A must eat it place.

Google says they close at 1:30. Website says they close at 2. We got there at 12:30 and they wouldn’t serve us even thought there was 2 people in line they were serving in front of us. They said they were running out of food and wouldn’t even make one simple taco. Horrible service for Cape Cod. If you plan to go here then go right when they open to ensure you get a taco. And hope that they serve you one. Very disappointing.

Google
Excellent food!! The tacos are so flavorful, and my toddler loved the quesadilla. We got the birria, chorizo, frijole, and carne asada street tacos. The steak had a nice crunch from the cooked which was an awesome texture in the soft street taco. Loved the sauce on top (not too spicy) and would have drank it.. so good ! It’s an outdoor food truck style during the day for lunch. A must try !!!!

Yelp
Amazing hidden gem for lunch! The tacodillas are heavenly bites of melty cheese and meat that will put a smile on your face. Highly recommend the carne asada tacodilla. Taco tuesdays get you 2 tacos for $6. The carnitas tacos were bursting with meat and flavor. Meanwhile my wife's Brussels tacodilla was a solid veggie option and the sweet potato dipping sauce / soup was a nice option that mixed sweet and spicy. You definitely get food truck in a laid back surfer town vibes which I appreciate. I can only take so many of the same fried seafood restaurant experiences so this was a nice change of pace. Be prepared for a little bit of a wait. Call ahead an order if you don't have much time. There are a few shaded picnic tables to eat out on a nice day. A small gravel parking lot offers parking or you can go across the street to Cuffys if it is full. So happy that there is finally a delicious Mexican option in this part of the cape!

Yelp
Not open when they said they are. Drove all the way there to a closed place. Not the best way of doing business

Yelp
My husband and I wanted to try something new for lunch back in early Spring. I suggested La Tacodilla. We decided to eat in the car as it's about 20 minutes away from home and was a bit chilly for Al fresco dining. I got the Mulitas tinga de pollo and a lime soda. After a short wait our food was ready. Absolutely delicious! Looking forward to our next visit after Labor Day.

Yelp
Treat yourself, park downwind, your senses will thank you! Delicious food. Excellent preparation. Great selection (surprising for a roadside stand). Fresh ingredients (crunchy shrimp, super fresh guac, soft and stretchy taco). Very reasonably priced. Generous portions. Perfect street food atmosphere: laidback, no view , happy hungry people. Friendly service. David's great (owner?) clearly loves his own food! I had a good feeling about this place so I bought a hat. I shall wear it proudly!! You'll leave happier than when you arrived. Bravo!

Yelp
Food truck vibe from a fixed location. The street tacos and tacodillas are outstanding. The is a small semi-shaded eating area behind the trailer and a few picnic tables near the road. The tortilla chips are delicious. The guacamole was a little disappointing, it would be better to have an additional taco instead.

Maribel B.

Yelp
Stopped here on a road trip with the family. WOW loved it! The birria tacodillas were the best, the flavors and consistency just made the experience that much better. The choriqueso dip was Fab as well. I highly recommend and can't wait for another chance to eat here! The service was quick and very friendly.

Yelp
Don't let the look of the lace fool you. Best tacos around and killer service...go now and eat tacos

Yelp
I am back after a long hiatus. The food is to go. Great menu, lots of options. Prices are fair. I spoke with a super sweet guy and ordered 2 fish tacos and 2 shrimp and the sweet potato puree. When I arrived, my order consisted of 2 fish tacos. I was a bit confused with the obvious mis communication but was happy with the two tacos. They were delicious. WOW, lots of flavor and lovely fish.

Hayley S.

Yelp
We were thrilled to find this spot, just across from Cuffy's. Everything was delicious, especially the elote bites & tacos. It's all we've talked about all week. Any time we're back in the area (or frankly anywhere in driving distance) we'll be popping by.

Randy L.

Yelp
Been here multiple times to Tacodilla ever since they opened, (haven't gone personally to clean slate but family has). Decided to call for a pickup order for a few of us on a rainy day. As a chef who's work in the food industry and employee in the customer service for multiple years I'm actually astounded that we *had* to make an account for this review. Whoever I spoke too gave me the worst customer service in my life that I just hung up early phone call. Was gonna order a lot because the food is decently good, but not worth dealing with his bs. Definitely not the best tacos and he knows that as he stated from his own written responses. Nonetheless, whatever stick is up his, I hope he pulls it out for other customers. Unless you enjoy being belittled and rushed then by all means this is your go too. Edit* - After reading the owner responses to other reviews on google, the owner's ego is actually hilarious. Definitely don't recommend and won't be coming back to either restaurants and I'm sure he doesn't care which is the best part. Thanks for reading

Yelp
Great food. Very different. Not your average lunch!! Innovative flavors and food you won't get anywhere else.

Yelp
Visiting from out of town and ran across this place on the way through town. Food was amazing and affordable. We had loaded taco fries, carnitas and brussel sprout tacodillas, and beef and chorizo tacos. Definitely worth a visit!
google avatar

Naomi M.

Yelp
Amazing food. Surprising only because when you roll up, it doesn't seem like much. A girl waved us over to the ordering menu because the menu and where the food is actually ordered aren't together. We were there for breakfast so we got a chorizo burrito, breakfast tacodilla, and EggBirrMuffin. Everything was delicious - crispy, cheesy, well flavored with a little kick - my only regret is finding out about this place on the last day of our trip. Highly recommend stopping by if they're open.

Yelp
Excellent food/friendly staff and very dog friendly. Fellow customers were also quite friendly and the vibe is mellow. The Tacodilla is a taco with the corn tortilla grilled and it's amazing. Will definitely be back for more!

Yelp
You may drive by and miss LaTacodilla. Small and unassuming building/food truck but the flavor is anything but small! try everything you can! Huge flavors and the most delicious food. Street taco's and much much more. The staff is wonderful and I highly recommend, well everything! One of my favorites is the melty cheese tacodilla- either carne asada/ Carnitas or Brussels sprout. Try their hotdog special and all their great sauces. There are several outside tables or food to go. A plus!

Yelp
1000% recommend stopping by + grabbing food. I stopped by with my bf and we got: -Quesabirria w/ the consumé - literally amazing + thick -Carne asada street taco - grilled + smoky 10/10 -Pollo tinga street taco - it was good, would say 7/10 but a good portion -Quesobrusuelas w/ the sweet potato consumé - amazing, the consumé itself was kinda like a light chowder + it went really well with the Brussel sprouts -brussel street taco - 8/10, would get again, I think the quesobruela is the way to go if you want the cheese + consumé -chips + salsa Fresca - great portion, and the salsa was light but had some spice/flavor -churros w/ the dulce de leche sauce - addicting + you have to get them. Overall, great experience + the spot is small and casual. Can't wait to come back for more! (No pics because we devoured everything lol).

Yelp
The hype is real. Do not miss this spot if you're on the mid cape and if you love tacos. The tacodillas aka quesobirria style tacos of different fillings are better than I've had anywhere in Boston or NY and better than most I've had in So Cal. The consommé is flavorful and full of spice without being spicy. The chorizo is not greasy at all and somehow with melted cheese somehow not super heavy and well seasoned. The potato purée (more like soup) to dip in is a must. The street tacos are bursting with meat. The carne asada is tender and juicy. The carnitas is soft with crispy edges. The salsas are all full of super fresh flavors. Parking is a PITA. The tables are sparse. Drinks are jarritos or Mexican coke. The prices are higher than you'd think for tacos. Doesn't matter the food itself is legit better than any taco place on the cape and possible all of New England. Do not sleep on these. I'm willing to drive from Boston to do a day trip on the cape just for these tacos. They're that good.

Savannah C.

Yelp
I went to La tacodilla on 4/27, after calling multiple times and not getting through I drove there and arrived at about 1:45. I got in line and was second in line. While helping the people in front of me order the gentleman working told me they were out of everything and couldn't take anymore orders. I replied by saying is there anything you could make with the items left in the kitchen. He responded by saying no, we are done for the day very aggressively and rudely. My family and I go here multiple times throughout the week, so to say this was disappointing is an understatement. I felt like I was lied to, how can the people in front of me order anything off of the menu but when it comes to me they are out of most items in the kitchen. It was clear that they were not out of stock, they were just done for the day, isn't honesty the best policy? They should probably say they close at 1:45 instead of 2 if that's when they're going to stop taking orders. They have definitely lost my family and I's business after being treated so poorly. Very disappointing.

Yelp
Fantastic Tacos. Birra are awesome. No frills but great food. Go sooner than later.

J A.

Yelp
AMAZING!!! Who woulda thunk it? Incredible tacos on The Cape! So glad I found it. Came to check in on the SUPERB Clean Slate and found La Tacodilla. The perfect lunch before or after the beach, ESPECIALLY on Taco Tuesday. ENJOY

Ariel F.

Yelp
This place is heaven. Maybe you're scrolling questioningly through the up close meat shots and you're like hmmm I'm not sure about this. But just don't question it. If you're looking at yelp right now, and it says "open," just go. Immediately. And order everything on the menu. You're welcome. Unless you're a vegan then just get the veggie stuff (also delicious and decadent).

Hasan G.

Yelp
Very tasty tacos.... Always good to get really good food in an area where it's really not known for
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
Oh my goodness. EAT HERE! This is some of the best food I've had on the Cape. Everything we ordered was delicious. If you eat here you will not regret your choice. I liked it so much I had to compliment the folks working there on my way out.
google avatar

AB H.

Yelp
I agree with the other reviewers - this place is great! Lunch for two if us was three tacodillas - the shrimp taco, the pork taco, and the beef taco - all with dipping sauces. Three was perfect for the two of us. Each had great flavors and was greasy-delicious! Do not skip the dipping sauces (the are $1 each) - they are so worth it! (my fav was the dipping sauce that came with the shrimp taco) Our 3 year old liked her plan cheese quesadilla. We sat at the little picnic area and really enjoyed our lunch. Check this place out!

Jenn S.

Yelp
Has been a favorite since they opened! Yummy food and friendly staff. Very cool vibe. My boyfriend and I hardly have time to go out on dates anymore, you know the drill jobs and kids and all, but we always try to come twice a month for our lunch date.
google avatar

Doug C.

Yelp
The tacos here are absolutely the best. Easily the best Mexican food on the Cape. The birria was exceptional.
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
So So delish! Just stopped through while out Christmas shopping and thinking I could honestly eat from these folks again for dinner! Thank you!!
google avatar

Art D.

Yelp
Like the more formal inside dining that Clean Slate is noted for, this Taco-Burritto endeavor is no less phenomenal! Don't miss this pop-up taste sensation cause, like the warm weather, it will be gone! too soon!!
google avatar

Joe D.

Yelp
La Tacodilla is offering amazing flavor filled tacos. We all know the fantastic flavors of the Clean Slate Eatery, and the Tortilla is their response to Covid! We had the braised beef, shrimp, churico, and brussel sprout tacos. Each one was packed with flavor and amazing! They're only open for lunch to plan to drop by for a great meal to go!
google avatar

Kimberly M.

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal! We enjoyed the quesabirria and quesatinga... they are off the charts!
google avatar

Marvin M.

Yelp
So Cal boy like myself! Happy to find this spot! Brings me back to my grandmas Mexican food! Thanks guys y'all Rock!

James F.

Yelp
Best tacos. Unreal. Great people work there - so nice, and they remember you name. If you go - you will return multiple times. Simple great food
google avatar

Julianna S.

Yelp
This So/Cal style Taco Food truck is the real deal and a must try! Between my hubby and I we tried e Chicken/cheese, Brussel Sprout/cheese and the Chorizo/cheese tacos! We opted to get the dipping sauces along with them which made for a tasty and unique food experience on the Cape! Crispy, cheesy, a little messy and oh so satisfying!
google avatar

Jeremy L.

Yelp
Some if the best tacos I've had. Definitely get the dipping sauces/stews! I got the chicken tinga--got the dipping sauce which was an amazing spicy tomato soup that you sipped. The loaded waffle fries were also great, but they are huge. Unless you are sharing with a bunch of folks, I would recommend saving room for more tacos!
google avatar

Jon G.

Yelp
This is my favorite new place We found this year. Outstanding doesn't begin to describe all our visits. We will keep coming as long as they are open. Everything we have had as we work our way through the menu is excellant. Satisfied stomachs are the norm when we visit. Hands down the best Food I've had in quite some time!! Thank you !!
google avatar

Robbie T.

Yelp
Best freaking taco I have ever had. I will never go to the cape again without eating here.

Very good. I had to wait about 45 minutes for my food but it was certainly worth the wait.

Yelp
This place is awesome. I've had MANY tacos and this ones one of the best. Loaded with melted cheese and delicious meat. Beef and chicken were great. I'll be back tomorrow. Probably won't be long before this place gets busy, so get there quick!

FoodNotes Y.

Yelp
Great tacos. Wasn't expecting this quality in a touristy area like the Cape. The salsa verde was phenomenal. Food: Really good flavors. We tried the carnitas, shrimp tacodilla, mulita and a few other things. The portions are fair. FYI the street tacos come with one tortilla, whereas if you go to some of the authentic spots in Boston/elsewhere, sometimes it's usually 2 thin tortillas. The consume was flavorful. If you don't usually drink/dip consume w/ your tacos, then you don't need this for this. The tacos are tasty enough. If you haven't had authentic tacos before, just note that the street tacos are small, around 4 inch size. I think some may be thrown off by that. If you picture restaurant sized tacos as a reference, those are usually 6 inch tortillas, so the 4 inch ones are a bit smaller. But they do pack them with plenty of meat. Tacos vs tacodilla. I personally preferred the tacos over the tacodilla. Less greasy. This is very subjective though. Ambience: Great. Outdoor seating. Price: Compared to the other taco places, this is on par. Certainly more expensive than non-Cape places. Service: Nice folks.

Yelp
Really impressed to find such delicious Mexican inspired cuisine on the Cape! Ordered the quesabruselas (Brussels sprouts and cheese) and was sooo yummy. Chips and guac were also fresh and delicious!

Nina R.

Yelp
Great portions, good quality ingredients, prompt service and they were very responsive to my requests for dietary restrictions!

Meg M.

Yelp
Best tacos I have ever had, authentic, creative and great portions. Very friendly folks serving delicious food!

Tony H.

Yelp
Amazing tacos. The sauces put them over the top. Everything we had was amazing. Our picky five year old even gave it "20,000 thumbs up"

Joseph T.

Yelp
Happy they were able to find an outlet during these strange times. Deee-lish definitely recommend!

Shaun M.

Yelp
Amazing food friendly service and a nice little hole in the wall restaurant. Got the beef chicken and shrimp tacodillas and they were amazing. Must have the dip with them too

Yelp
We used La Tacodilla to feed our rehearsal dinner guests for our June 2021 wedding and are still dreaming about those tacos. We placed the order without having tried the food yet but based on positive reviews and how confident we were after emailing with the owner, Jason. Plus, we love supporting a local family-owned business. We happened to drive by the food truck a couple days prior to our rehearsal and dropped in to try some of the food for lunch - we knew we had made the right decision. Everything that we tried was delicious - tacodillas, loaded waffle fries, chorizo burger and a mulita. We placed our order a few days before the rehearsal and Jason was great to work with - very responsive and accommodating, even throwing in a couple extras to ensure we had plenty of food. The food was ready on time and our guests loved it! It was fun to have people pick out the different kinds of tacodillas they wanted and then play around with all the sauces/dip options that were available. We will be returning on our next trip to the Cape!

Sage L.

Yelp
Mmmm the Brussels mulita light on the cheese is my go to when I'm in the area..dip it in the sweet potato purée and your taste will dance in a moment of ecstasy!
