The tacos were so good and I thought it was cool how they cook tacos outside, but you can also go inside and order from another menu with other dishes that they make inside. I recommend this place for some good Mexican food.

Google
Great food choices but horrible security. Someone hit my car. Talked to security and was told/shown that only 1 camera works. Every security camera they have doesn’t work. They told me accidents happen frequently in the parking lot and that they’ve been meaning to fix the cameras for months. They made light of incident and joked around.

Big market, clean and nice selections with bug variety! Also, the only thing that it's lacking is many of the booths in the foeaarkwt part of the back area are always closed down on regular weekdays. During business times 8-5 and even after until they close.. it's always been that way since first time I started going there about 10 years ago.

Google
Been going here for years. A must is the fruit shop to the left right when you enter, fresh fruit cups, magonadas, & more! The bakery has yummy treats as well! Great selection of Mexican candy & snacks. Parking can sometimes be hectic, especially on the weekend when the flea market is open!

Google
This store is so much more than just a Mexican Market! There's something for everybody ! I absolutely love their produce, I would describe all of it as perfect! I have never purchased a bad avocado , orange, onion or potato, in fact, I actually saved an avocado I had cut open to show my family because it was so beautiful, I didn't want to damage it by eating it! The meat counter in this store is huge with an amazing variety and selection. The Carne Asada is so moist and tasty, I will NEVER purchase it anywhere else again! There is also a parfait and smoothie bar that has a Strawberry and Cream Parfait to die for, and the bakery area is also large with amazing cakes and pasties at very low prices.. you can't shop at this store without bringing home a few treats! What I would have to say is my favorite thing about this store, however, is the customer service! Everybody is so friendly and helpful and they make you feel so welcomed and appreciated! I don't speak Spanish, but I don't need to understand what they say to me, I understand how they make me feel, which is VALUED and that is a rare emotion to feel in the retail arena these days.

Good selection of Hispanic food. Great tasting Mexican sweet bread. Large variety as well. Friendly staff.

Google
Super fun, but The pastries were kind of expensive, my mother-in-law bought more pastries then I did but her total was way less than mine and I bought only two bags of pastries versus her three plus a box. Seems off but whatever.

Google
Always the go to when we have big Events 😁 staff is usually really friendly, oh and I found out today that's its not only a Market. They have a lot of cool things in the back part of the store. Can buy a lot of fruit that they have in Mexico 🇲🇽 Aways a great experience 😊

Yelp
It's safe to say, that I know nothing about nothing when it comes to this place. I was so overwhelmed, in a good way, I need to go back just to look around again. They have everything, like everything you could ever want and so much more that you've probably only seen in Mexico. The people are so nice, and patient with my lack of Spanish. Wasn't hard to navigate or didn't feel like I wasn't welcome (though I did stick out like I had no idea what's going on, lol). Prices are crazy good, and they have lots of things that you'd find at a western store, especially produce, but for way cheaper as they do such a high volume. I will say, that this place is BUSY and loud, but that's totally okay. A really fun market vibe, and you feel like you've traveled, but it's so close! I will be back to try the fresh meats and seafood.

Lynn U.

Yelp
I walked into here by accident when I was at the flea market next door and I have found my favorite place to buy marinated pollo adobado (Mexican chicken adobo). Though it's pricey at $4 a pound it is delicious. They also have tres leches cakes in a cup that I'm slowly getting addicted to. I can't wait to try their other marinated meats in the back and the other pastries they have. Just a warning a lot of the workers there do not speak much (or any) English but pointing and hand gestures go a long way here.

Shelby L.

Yelp
Pastries are amazing, very nice produce section. I didn't purchase any meat but they do definitely have a huge selection.

Kathy D.

Yelp
love this place and fresh foods and even bakery is CHAMP !!!! keep run the business for mexican people need this items as culture period

Elizabeth O.

Yelp
This is a great spot for fresh meat, cheese and also delicious chicharrones. The service was really great.

Andrew A.

Yelp
Santo Domingo on NE 42nd sets the standard in Portland for chilaquiles. But the version here is a serious contender. The portion-to-price at La Tapatia isn't as good, but you get rice and beans. Per my earlier review, this is an overall solid market and adjoining restaurant. Coca-Cola just tastes better from a glass bottle, but it's not readily available at chain grocery stores. Here, Mexican Coke is only $1.29.

Yelp
We just moved up from Los Angeles and I was finding it difficult to get the type of meat we are used to from all the Latino markets that were available to us. This place definitely has the meat and bread and sweets and stuff that we are used to would totally recommend going here.

Brandon B.

Yelp
We've come here for years and and have had a pretty good experience up until today. The lady attending me tried to force me to buy more carnitas than I asked for. I ordered two pounds and she tried making me buy two and a half pounds. Then when I told her I only wanted two pounds, she got mad and filled the bag with only skin and fat, almost zero actual meat. I drove 35 minutes so I'm very unhappy that I have to pay for this terrible service and food.

Mary Ann A.

Yelp
La tapatía has everything that i need to make my Abuelitas recipes. The service is always friendly and everything that's in the deli and meat department is delicious. I truly appreciate that the carnicero still cuts bones in house, I've been to other grocers that don't do this anymore. If you're ever in need of anything to make a good Mexican meal this is definitely the place to go.

Londyn B.

Yelp
This place sucks. NEVER GO HERE!!!. The waiting was almost an hour for check out. The service is terrible.

Karli K.

Yelp
It Saturday early evening and I needed to buy a LOT of rice, so I check out local Asian or Mexican markets. Came across the yelp reviews of this place THANKS FOR THE PHOTOS and decided that picking up dinner would be great too OH MY GOD this place is heaven on earth and there is straight lines to get in the parking lot. Got our food and some groceries and came home. Food is amazing. So good. Sorry my photos are crappy it was very busy and I was trying to be inconspicuous. They also had alllll my favorite Mexican candy!!!

amy w.

Yelp
Beautiful market with a wonderful selection and the most lovely, friendly and helpful staff.

Edith B.

Yelp
It's a great spot to find everything you need but I guess since I'm more Americanized idk get a weird feeling some workers aren't into that came in here for cakes guy walking around starts talking to girl waiting behind me and brings her random cake (heard the conversation she just wants a cake not preordered) gives it to her walks back to the back area and comes out barely looks at me and I tell him I want a cake too and it was like I was bothering him to do it the guy at the counter was busy with some people that Were making an order. Came another time with family I had preordered the cake the name was spelled wrong even though on the paper it was spelled right cakes are really good do recommend

Melissa B.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to grab food when I'm planning to cook a big meal. They literally have everything you could need to host an authentic fiesta or just cook a big Sunday dinner for the familia. I get meat here that's already seasoned and marinated, and I don't have to do anything with it, but have my other half throw it on the grill or into a skillet. I usually make my own salsa, but if I don't, I know I can come here and get quality salsa that's tastes super homemade. They have all the condiments and accompaniments you would want, from produce to sweets to beverages. On the topic of sweets, the bakery is always loaded with all the sweet bread and baked goods. The pastries are extremely large for the price, and you always leave feeling like you got a good deal. Stop on your way out the door for a chamoyada to quench the heat this summer, or grab some fresh tamales in the parking lot.

Edgar D.

Yelp
Came here because a lot of close friends highly recommend this place. Absolutely terrible. The cashier was rude and charged us extra for stuff that we didn't even purchase. Didn't notice until after we got home and checked the receipt. She was rude and wasn't even talking to us while she scanned our stuff. She was talking to other co-workers about drama and what not and not fully acknowledging our presence. She even had the audacity to throw my receipt at me. Never coming here again. Left speechless.

Holly D.

Yelp
A friend of mine wanted to take me to the restaurant in the same building but it was closed on Thursday so we went to the grocery store. If it's Mexican and you want it, it's here. A guy greeted us at the door and it was clear we didn't know what we were doing and didn't speak Spanish (only Portuguese which helped us stumble through)..at the meat counter we got carnitas, beans and rice and tamales to take home. My friend said it was as good as the restaurant so she was very happy. I thought it was excellent and I would drive that far to go there again.

Gabie C.

Yelp
I got a tres leche cake and it was the worst cake I've ever had! A cry ass cake I don't know if it was sitting there for days and dried up but it was horrible

Diane N.

Yelp
One of my most favorite place for mangonada and tamarind candies. Staffs are very nice and friendly.

Yelp
Yearning for a taste of her Los Angeles roots, Mrs. Burgerdogboy suggested we find an adequate-sized Mexican grocery and pick up some supplies for Mexican style "street tacos." She was feeling a bit nostalgic for home comfort food, and me, I'm always up for her cooking, and a little taco nostalgia myself, tho my memories of same tend to drift towards the tequila black-outs of my youth in TJ. I Yelped for suggestions and opted for La Tapatia, at 18330 Southeast Stark Street, and ventured into a heretofore unchecked out part of Portland (for me, in any case). It's a great choice for buying Mexico groceries and meats, and it c0-located with a rather large "Mexican-style" flea market, a beehive of activity on Saturday afternoons. We parked in a the crowded lot next to a taco trailer, and Mrs. BDB's peckishness got the best of her, and we had to score a couple of tongue tacos before venturing into the grocery. With us, it's always best to eat prior to grocery shopping else we fall into food budget disaster. A wide variety of tacos are offered by this cart in the parking lot, for a buck a pop, and they were delicious. The grocery was beyond my expectations, sparkling clean, helpful employees, and a great fresh meat counter. We picked up some marinated pork meat for our tacos, tortillas, shrimp ceviche, and a couple of pounds of chorizo and other sausages. One often hears that Portland lacks authentic Mexican food, but such is not the case, whether you want to prepare at home, or check out the taco stands in the parking lot or within the flea market. It's as authentic as it gets.

Yelp
Best little Mexican market around. Great selection of meats and other items that aren't easy to find in the main grocery stores

Christine M.

Yelp
If you need authentic Mexican food and ingredients their birthday cake for romeo was per6

Liz L.

Yelp
Every time I go here I get shocked with their customer service , their supervisor is never helping the front people when they get packed with lines even their employees make excuses for their management during a pandemic, the employees in the meat department need more training with sanitation and packaging and making sure they're customers get assisted properly today I had someone package carnitas in a way that made me not want to buy them anymore . They are not fallowindoing social distancing not changing their gloves .

Jose M.

Yelp
FINALLY!!! REAL MEXICAN FOOD, HOME MADE TORTILLAS, AND FRESHLY BAKED SWEET BREAD. Portland metro area has "0" ZERO AUTHENTIC Mexican food, so it's like heaven getting supplies to make my own tacos at home or eating next door. It's a very poor unkept area, parking is a nightmare on the weekends, but there IS additional parking in the back. Don't leave valuables in the car type of area, but I'm there for the amazing food not the flea market or the people. Coming from Central California, this food tastes like home. Try it out on your own, you'll like it.

Mai D.

Yelp
I come here for the meat! All their meat looks and tastes very fresh. I especially like to go there for when I do taco night. The meat is already marinated so you just need to throw it on a skillet. Really good deal, about $4 per pound.

Elita M.

Yelp
I Love Everything Mexican, especially the Food and this Market is connected to the Flea Market next door with is great! Not only can you buy all kinds of cool and unique items at the flea market you can also do all your grocery shopping and go to the bakery and get some fresh baked pastries, buy some freshly-made tortillas, heck-- even buy a money order, New Jewelry and or buy a dine in their Restaurant in the Back! They also have a huge selection of already made items from the restaurant or from the hot Deli, that you can use to create a feast without have to do any cooking of your own!

Brenda C.

Yelp
This review is based on the restaurant in the back of the store not the store!! The store is awesome!! I didn't know where to begin on this review so I will start with the worst... I'm sitting on the toilet because i got diarrhea. So I walked in with FOUR hungry kids... I came here because the tacos were $1 so I figured the burritos and Tortas were gonna be thrifty too... Wrong! Torta $6.50 burrito $5.99, Quesadilla $6.50. The only meat options were Asada and Al Pastor.... The asada meat looked and tasted questionable .. did not taste like asada also the tacos were on a small not fresh tortillas. I ordered a quesadilla with Al Pastor minus the crema, it was mediocre, the best thing about it was the two pieces of avocado and the avocado salsa I put on it from the salsa bar. I spent $26 threw away half a quesadilla and two tacos. Will never go here again. Next time I will buy meat in the carniceria and some tortillas at the tortilleria both in the store and cook it at home myself...

Yelp
We've been checking out all the tiendas and mercados in Portland and, so far, this one is the best. They have a spectacular meat section with every traditional cut, as well as sausages and organ meats. Their deli is awesome, maybe even better than de Leon's, and has the most amazing chicharones I've ever seen and would be a great choice for an easy meal or bulk pastor, carnitas, and so much more. They make their own tortillas, bolillos, and their panaderia has the widest selection of pastries I've seen anywhere in PDX. They are also very very good. The produce is again a very broad selection and very well priced with many items at .99/lb or less and offers a large array of fresh chiles, bananas, plantains, yuca, nopales, and so much more. The grocery section is quite complete and full of bargains, especially on their huge selection of dried chiles, bulk spices, harinas and, of all things, even Di Cecco pasta. They have a complete drink section with what looks like every soda Jarritos makes. As you exit, there is a fruiteria as well that looked very good. There's also a fun little flea market next door.

Marc R.

Yelp
This is a review of both the taqueria and the market. I was a bit blown away as a Chicago person to see that I had to go so far out of the center of PDX to find an ethnic neighborhood, but I have been told that PDX is a "reverse Detroit" with the affluent folks in the center and the immigrants and ethnics on the periphery. True enough. Why travel out here on the train? Well, the $1 tacos are the reason why. We had a giant pile of tacos of all types and were absolutely happy with everything. You dress them yourself and again for a buck you can try some of the other meats you might not normally order. The small bakery section is good, as is the fruit and meat market. Me from Chicago and my buddy from South Texas were in heaven as we found everything we needed to make fajitas old school style. Viva La Tapatia in PDX!

Chris R.

Yelp
Biggest Latinx market I've seen on the the Eastside pdx. Don't miss the steamed tacos (al vapor) in the back. Fully stocked butcher (carnicería) and tortilla maker (tortillería). Will be back soon.

Foodster I.

Yelp
This place is awesome!! Great place for all you Latin goods! It makes me feel like im back in my hometown in South Cal. Mauricio and Luciano do a great job. The place is always busy and CLEAN. Les recomindo La Tapatia para todo sus productos Latinos, pan dulce, pasteleria, ricas frutas/ verduras, abarrotes, tortillas frescas, carniceria , caseta de cambios de chekes y ricos tacos de la taqueria. Salud Amigos!!

Tita O.

Yelp
I love this store so much The one thing I do dislike are the lady's in the back that do envíos. I was sending money to my family in Mexico and it ended up that the lady fucked on on the address and was charging me 10$ just to fix that little problem. Im very disappointed cause how can she make me pay 10$ just to fix it . She was very rude horrible customer service I don't recommend that place. And if you go at least write down the details very clear so they don't fuck up like they did with me.

Steed H.

Yelp
So this is it. The search is now over. This place has the best of everything. Tortillas, meats, Taqueria, guy who sells tamales in the parking lot. I will gain weight here on out.

Rondi V.

Yelp
I recently discovered La Tapatia Market on SE 183rd & Stark, and was very impressed! For a small & unassuming space, they have a wonderful selection of fruits & veggies, spices and Latin beverages... and then there's the butcher section! Assorted Meats, ceviches, asada, the list goes on. Their bakery is lovely too, with fresh breads & delicious pastries and beautifully crafted cakes. They have top-notch service, and go out of their way to help you find what you're looking for.

Erika M.

Yelp
Best Mexican market I have found in Portland to date. This is a bonafide mercado with a great restaurant - we had the buche tacos and fried whole tilapia, both amazing. The horchata was chalky, obviously from a mix, but the salsa's were fresh and muy spicy. And the market was great - the meat selection is varied and fresh and the pastries looked scrumptious. Tiende Santa Cruz's food is great (I found the market lacking), but if you a looking for the full experience - tasty restaurant, handmade tortillas, fresh baked pastries, tons of meats, and varied produce - you'll find what you are looking for. The flea market next door is worth the walk through, although you may not find anything terribly interesting. I highly recommend this market to those familiar with Mexican markets as well as to my adventurous friends.

Terry W.

Yelp
GREAT store. Clean, organized with a huge variety of items. Large butcher shop, ceviche, fresh salsa, nice diner in the back. Lovely place, helpful staff. Bit of a drive, but I will make time for it.

Dulces A.

Yelp
Very expencive. I went in to get dypers and I almost fainted from the price of a tiny pack of dypers

Tim A.

Yelp
I have been to Mexico several times This is without a doubt the best carne asada I have ever had in my life.

D T.

Yelp
East side gem, all of the Mexican staples you need. carne, tortillaria, panaderia, deli. With a friendly staff and good prices

Carlene D.

Yelp
Delicious and authentic! I thought that moving from Arizona to Oregon I would be missing out on good Mexican food but I was wrong. The carnitas torta was amazing! My husband got the carne asada burrito and that too was yummy!

Cinthia C.

Yelp
Authentic mexican love their food and homade tortillas their salsa is amazing if your looking for real mexican food it's a must.

Carol M.

Yelp
Just moved here to Portland from Southern California where there is TONS of Latino food markets. Was so glad to find this place (via YELP). Very friendly staff and prices were good too. I walked in to the doors and I could tell immediately I was in the right place because of the familiar fragrant smell of carne asada and cilantro. WILL go back here.

Mark R.

Yelp
you find some stuff other places won't have. the plantains tho could be better, they got small ones. tangerines are small too could be better. filthy parking lot, regular service staff not polite. this apparently began as a groceey store and kind of expanded. mostly mexican stuff not really all of latam represented. chicharrones in the back are good, nice fella serving public. cashier spots have no separation bars for goods and the counters are dirty. pretty much they got some of the worse of latam and not much the best, shame.
