Randomly decided to go here with a friend, and really enjoyed it. We visited around lunchtime, so it was a little busy but not too much. Our server was really nice and attentive. The food came in a timely manner, and everything was really good. We decided to have a little margarita and it was also really good. I would eat at this place again.

This restaurant has the cozy family restaurant feeling. They have been in business for 16 years. It is a brand spanking new restaurant space including their immaculate restrooms. The food is not gourmet but a solid 9.5 for their portion sizes, taste and price. Their ranchero sauce is delicious and their chorizo eggs are lean, not greasy. I also replaced my tortillas with toasted torta. It was delicious. Their pancakes are excellent. Fluffy, but not dry. They don't add sugar to their pancakes like some places. They are very attentive to make sure you are happy with their food. I would bring the family here with kids and grandkids. You can tell the customers are like family.

Wow. I had really loved this place before in it's old location. The food quality has gone down. The meat in my burrito was burned and dry. The soup had too much onion flavor and the tortilla syrups in it were soggy and came in the soup instead of on the side the way they used to. There were bones in the chicken in the soup my daughter got. The rice was overdone and not very good. The beans taste like they were from a can or they used old lard or something. Just NOT the way they used to. And to top it off, their prices went way up. So disappointed. This will probably be my last time going here. Next time, we'll go to Garcia's. Or even la margarita would be better. I really can't stress how disappointed I was. I had been telling my kids how awesome and amazing the food here was. Huge miss!

August 24: I am so thankful to have the La Tapatia Round Rock back open again. This was a go to place for me before the relocation. The restaurant is now located right next to newly opened well known 🍜 place. I order some eggs with potatoes, avocado taco and chicken taco. Food was fresh and service was excellent. Portion size was really great. I also loved that now that have integrated easy online ordering and pickup. The atmosphere is upbeat and the bar looks nice. The tacos I had felt a little under salted, but they have also just open the restaurant only 2 days ago when I went. There is plenty of parking. They have exciting tacos and breakfast plates. Definitely give them a try.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at La Tapatia and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish! The ambiance of the restaurant is warm and inviting, with a perfect balance of cozy and modern decor. The staff greeted us with a friendly smile, and the service throughout the meal was impeccable. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes, and everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The enchiladas were a standout, bursting with rich, savory flavors, and the horchata was the perfect way to end the meal. It’s clear that the chefs take great pride in their craft, using high-quality ingredients to create dishes that are both innovative and comforting. One of the highlights of the evening was the attention to detail. Our server made excellent recommendations and ensured that we felt well taken care of throughout the meal. Whether you’re looking for a casual dinner or a special celebration, La Tapatia provides an exceptional dining experience that’s worth every penny. I can’t wait to return and try more of their delicious offerings!

I’m writing this review 1 hour after leaving the restaurant - it was that bad of an experience. Upon arriving, we were greeted by the sound of an extremely loud action film unsuitable for kids and because we had our 7 year old with us, I kindly asked our waitress if they could change the film to something more kid-appropriate. She said she would ask management. The film played loudly in the background with violent scenes and expletives for the duration of our visit. Not sure why the volume needed to be on blast for such a terrible action film. Some people just have bad taste. Our waitress also never came back after making my request, perhaps she was embarrassed or told not to bother with us. As for the food - the rice was cold, over salted and mushy. The beef in my caldo de res was mostly bone and the broth was also too salty. If you want good Mexican food, take yourself somewhere delicious, like Juarez Bakery. If you’re looking for something friendly and accommodating, this restaurant isn’t it. Management should take his stubborn, machismo attitude elsewhere…good luck in life with that. All that being said, I tried making this review as fair as possible, but you know what? The service was bad, the food was mediocre, it was a miserable experience and that’s all there is to it.

I wanted to order a a beef and a chicken enchiladas. The told me I can only choose one or the other. I stuck with the beef. Well it came with potatoes and carrots mixed with the beef. The taste wasn’t appetizing. The chips were stale and hard. Not to mention the prices have doubled and are extremely high. I’ll never come back here again. Especially after paying a lot for something i didn’t enjoy or eat

Google
If you're looking for home made flour tortillas, you can forget that. I asked if their coffe was fresh, it wasn't. The chorizo and egg was dry over cooked and scraped from the pan. The waitress was soft spoken, barely hear her. Should've gone to Juarez.

Yelp
This is more of a 2.5 Stars review, but I feel like maybe there might be some good items on the menu. It's a cute place, very small. I had a bowl of tortilla soup. It was very plain. There were no vegetables in it except a diced onion or two, and a half of an avocado . It was mostly broth, an enormous boiled chicken breast placed on top of the broth. It did have some cheese on the bottom and a lot of tortilla strips in it. That was it. The chicken was torn apart in about 6 pieces, and placed on top of the soup. I had a hard time eating such large pieces. I was only given a spoon, and was able to chop the huge pieces into more manageable pieces. I didn't know how to save this soup. I squeezed some lemon juice in it, and added some salsa. It didn't save the boiled chicken breast flavor. I was actually kinda grossed out by the breast. Pale, curled, tasteless. No spices on the chicken. Bland. I didn't care for the tortilla chips nor the salsa brought to my table. Salsa was watery and tasted of canned tomato sauce. Chips were sturdy and thick.

Yelp
The taste of South Texas in Round Rock. We eat here at least twice a week, if not more, and the staff is always friendly. They've gotten to know us and are always very welcoming. You get so much food for the price, which is great considering other restaurants have gone the opposite direction with their portions. Great pozole and some of the best al pastor tacos.

Yelp
I've been coming to this store for the last 5 years and I've never really had any complaints about food. However, recently I've experienced a significant amount of push back from the employees about hot sauce. I'm consistently ordering $20 to $30 worth of food and I feel like recently 1-2 sauces are not enough. Once we ask for more they get rude and defensive it's almost a fight to get one more. Food is good, but this definitely makes me consider getting lunch from this place.

Martha G.

Yelp
Its a great place to eat real homemade food. The service is awesome they care to serve you what you asked for. They give you great recommendations as well. very clean place and great friendly servers. I noticed the cook takes pride in his cooking, caught him looking over the window in the kitchen looking for customers reactions when they tasted the food . Every plate is a huge plate.

Yelp
This little restaurant is located on exit 254 heading north on I 35. I stopped here while waiting for some work to be done on my car at one of the close by dealerships. Once you enter this establishment you'll notice it definitely does not have any corporate feel to it whatsoever. It appears to be a family run establishment where Spanish is spoken by the staff and the television. It's a relatively small establishment with about 15 or so tables and it does have a slightly run down look to it. Now for the good part, chips and salsa are complimentary. The red salsa is quite decent as are the chips. I had the beef enchiladas with red sauce and as the photo below shows, great portion! For the money, this place really delivers. It is your basic Tex Mex, so nothing really amazing. They do have some daily specials posted as well. Tip included, I was out of there for just $15!

Yelp
First time stopping in for a to-go order and wanted some crispy beef tacos. I ordered the taco plate and I was truly disappointed. My rice was cold, the refried beans had no flavor and the tacos were so greasy that they were already soaking through the taco shells by the time I got to my car. The service was nice when placing my order but for my food to be cold lets me know I got old rice and my plate was just thrown together. I even gave them a tip for my to-go order. Will not be ordering here again and if you're looking for authentic Mexican food, this is not it!

Yelp
The server was good, not friendly or very helpful, just good. She did her job. The space is open and they have a bar and a walk up counter filled with Mexican candy. I ordered the enchilada plate with the queso on top of the enchiladas. The rice was cold and the beans were kind of warm. The meat was different. It had some carrots or something in it! And the "queso" that was on top was like canned nacho cheese that they added "something" ‍to it to make it like queso. It was awful. So instead of sending it back I ordered something different. I know... I should have given up with the first plate but I was trying to give them a chance. I ordered the beef enchilada plate and it was the same. The person I was with ate their food because they were hungry. I hope we don't get food poisoning. We tipped the server for her presence to take our order (someone else brought out or food) and $60+ later I was STILL hungry. Never again.

Luis R.

Yelp
We ordered Crispy Tacos and instead of ground beef like a crispy taco has they gave us chorizo.

Jorge Z.

Yelp
We were very excited when the restaurant reopened! We have been frequenting, La Tapatia for many years. Great service and they have the best avocado tostada, and the tacos al Pastor are yummy! In this new location, the ambience is light and fun with the wonderful Latin music played on the screen.

Yelp
Love the breakfast tacos And a good deal for 3 tacos $4.99 Fat plump tacos Breakfast Tacos

Yelp
Es un restaurante muy bonito , tiene muy buena comida el servicio es muy bueno los desayunos muy buenos a muy buen precio siempre hay especiales de lunch y sus precios son muy razonables.

Yelp
When will you open back up? Been forever and haven't found a replacement yet! Any ETA would work

Gagan J.

Yelp
Nachos/chips is fresh and Salsa is really good. By default they give only Tomato salsa which has tinge of hotness(which I liked). I had to ask explicitly for Jalapeño salsa. Yesterday, they gave me Jalapeño salsa but today they did not give even after I requested. Food here is ( 4 stars )normal and tasty as every Mexican restaurant. I ate Chicken Burrito. Food can definitely be improved with a little more flavor to make me give 5 stars. Service can definitely be improved and employees can be little more patient than act as if world is going to end while taking order. With all the urgency shown, food arrives late( I finished full bowl of Chips and still waiting). There was food crumbs in between seating bench gaps which is kind of not cool.

Yelp
I been eating here since the open years ago , there better than Chuy's by far , they are building the next level of excitement , we and everyone is waiting for the grand opening of there new location, doors down from where they use to be located. We cant wait for there best Menudo in Town . i been having to go to sirloin stockade which there good menudo . Tapatia We all love your food and your hospitality you bring to Round Rock , My kids grew up with this awesome place !

Yelp
With all the good Mexican food restaurants we have in the Round Rock area, I would be hard-pressed to ever come here again. The place was filthy and the food was mediocre at best. The service was order at the counter they deliver to the table. Nearly every empty table had dirty dishes sitting on it. This place needs to just be shut down.

Yelp
DON'T GO HERE!!! 1. My friend and I BOTH got food poisoning from this place. 3 tacos for $3.99, I guess you get what you pay for. 2. They have no customer service! I asked a question and was just sneered at. Another customer asked a question and was told that he didn't need to know the answer. 3. I watched another customer ask for her three tacos to be individually wrapped since they kept sticking together. They did it then charged her a $1 extra PER TACO for it. This place is a health risk!

Yelp
Doesn't look like much when you drive past but once you walk into this small Mexican restaurant you will be greeted by aromatic, spicy aromas of fresh, authentic Mexican food. With the menu in Spanish, you know it's pretty authentic. Quick and kind service, with a surprising environment. We got our food to-go pretty quickly later at night. As I was going to leave I was going to pay for a water bottle and the kind server let me take a water bottle on him. I was very surprised at how fresh and delicious the food was. I got a taco salad, my friends got tacos and burritos. We were all impressed and loved the authenticity of this place!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing amazing! 10 stars all day my wife's and I favorite restaurant we became regulars that even the friendly staff remembers us and our orders, I grew up in Cali so I know really really good authentic Mexican food and this is one of the best in town and that says a lot because I'm not a fan of the tex mex food here or places claiming to be authentic or similar to Cali food when it's not even close to it. Don't listen to the folks who don't know Mexican joint's and pick at things they aren't used to or know, go to Tapatias you will love it trust me
google avatar

Ana F.

Yelp
I got chicken and cheese enchiladas. The cheese used is white, this is a Mexican restaurant. You should know damn well you don't use white cheese for no damn enchiladas. What an embarrassment. Also chicken is completely bland and tastes like they boiled it and put it in the tortilla, NO FLAVOR!!!! Mexican rice has color to fool you cause it also has NO FLAVOR. I love latapatia but this completely Ruined you guys for me and I will not be returning. Ok silverware came opened! That's even better. I'm so mad I used my cheat meal for this trash....
google avatar

Yelp
Now THIS is Mexican food the way I remember it, growing up in San Antonio. The menu claims "Jalisco style." I'm a gringa, but I grew up on the west side of SA, and my Spanish sounds as good as yours (better, unless Spanish is your first language). Salsa is to DIE for: homemade and wicked spicy. Menu in both languages. The beans and rice are perfect. The cheese enchiladas- smothered in that stringy queso blanco so good you can't imagine anything better - are made of excellent corn tortillas. Blistering hot plate (that's how it's done back home). This is the real deal: the single location restaurant where the local folks can come for real Mexican breakfast and come back to get out of the heat and have an excellent lunch. Long hours, wonderful food, no pretense. Viva la familia. Viva Jalisco. !Viva La Tapatía!

Yelp
Craving some Mexican food and I was in area so why not . About 12 diners eating and 3 women behind counter. The counter has lots of Mexican candies if that's is your thing. Looked over the menu and ordered beef fajita with cheese. Was told it comes with lettuce and avocado and beans. $6.99 . I also got a tongue taco Ewww not for me lol. I had a seat , place looked disheveled and just odd. Tables old and outdated . Five minutes later I was called to get my order Asked if I wanted salsa and I said yes. Asked for green but was told that's hot. Okay I will take red. Drove off and it took me 25 minutes to get home and take my first bite . It was still warm and was loaded with meat. I added cheese which was Monterey Jack . I tried it with and without salsa. It was good. Imagine a free-bird monster burrito. Same volume less price . 5 bites later it was great . Lacking a little bit of seasoning but was delicious. I'm a fan. Oh and I thought lettuce in a burrito was odd but chipotle bowls is some way. I will definitely go back for the another. The taco too I was told was great so for this review I give it a go out and get it now 5 stars. The place may look questionable but the food is great!

Joanna C.

Yelp
The food was delicious and authentic Mexican. On my downside is that the chips and salsa aren't free! That's a standard thing in most Mexican places in Texas, and this place is one of the first I've been to that don't give free chips and salsa.
google avatar

Jennifer E.

Yelp
Not the greatest. I was hoping for the killer breakfast tacos everyone rages about. What I got was burnt egg/bacon and undercooked potatoes. Didn't even get what I ordered! No chorizo, they just simply don't care what they serve to go!
google avatar

Bret B.

Yelp
We get tacos from this location at least once a week at work. I really have to say they're the best tasting tacos in the area. I will admit they're greasier than most, which frankly is probably why they're better, but the inexpensive part makes them even more appealing. Quick service, many options, good quality. Great place for breakfast for sure. Haven't had any other menu items but I'm looking forward to it
google avatar

Jordan V.

Yelp
If I'm lying I'm dying and i ain't dying this spot is the King of breakfast tacos plain and simple all that other noise can be muted and booted the deal is real 3 breakfast tacos for the 4 And they heavy handed with the eggs and the meat so don't worry about leaving hungry just worry about not going to sleep after and to top it off the green sauce taste like grandmas salsa one bite and takes you back to grandmas or mamas house in the morning !!!!
google avatar

Michael Q.

Yelp
Been here a few times the past month and have loved our experience there each time! The food is delicious and it's fairly inexpensive. The salsa has a nice kick to it and it goes on everything! Guacamole was delicious little salty but very good! Got to get an Aqua Fresca while you are here our favorite so far is the pineapple one! The breakfast menu (before 11am) on a sunday is legit! If you are craving some mexican food just swing by here! OH they have Pazole on the weekends!
google avatar

Laura C.

Yelp
Been coming here for years and always order breakfast. The migas and breakfast tacos are always amazing. We've never eaten inside and always order to-go. The restaurant is small with only a few tables and it's always busy, so that's why we call ahead and order it to-go. Probably the best migas in town!

Travis L.

Yelp
Amazing food and a great price!! Friendly staff! Breakfast tacos are a must! I've been going here for years!!
google avatar

Tim C.

Yelp
The two entrees we tried averaged out to 3.5 stars so i'm rounding up to 4 stars, the service was very good. The ground beef queso covered enchiladas were 3 stars, and the beef picadillo taco and the beef fajita taco were both 5 stars, they were tasty, plentiful and cheap.
google avatar

Mahogany C.

Yelp
The worst experience. It was busy when we got there which was fine. But 8 other people came in after my fiancé and I, and got their much larger orders taken after ours and each time we asked for a refund (3) they told us the food was coming and refused to give a refund until We came up again. Did not refund the proactive tip I put on The original receipt either. One other woman came behind us and also got a refund for the terrible service. I can't believe they are still in business.
google avatar

Angel M.

Yelp
No greeting. Seated but not waited on. Does not create a unique restaurant image. Overall: fair customer service

Craig W.

Yelp
Some of the best Mexican food in Austin. The owners are friendly and service is fast. I know it is good when the native clientele eats there frequently.

Saul S.

Yelp
Great green enchiladas con pollo, small place, clean good Mexican place! The rice is not the best

Sylvia C.

Yelp
It's a small location when just passing by. it's floor is dirty with food crumps, napkins, looks like when they clean the tables they just throw the crumps on the floor. I ordered a torta de milanesa but it was burnt ,vey dry and no flavor- the flavor was burnt meat. I really don't think i would go again. Maybe I would kind of recommend it but I would not recommend the torta de milanesa

Yelp
To start this review I'll give 3 starts or 2 to the inside lobby wait ! but ***** 5 on the food Reason for the 3 starts on the lobby I took my family on late Sunday for dinner since the rain got us on the road so we decide to eat there at la tapatía our destination was chuys tex Méx but it was all about the rain :) So we seat and receive the salsa and the chips Salsa was ok. And the chips appears to be home made we place our order. After that I walk to the men's restroom there is. No ceramic on the floors and no paint. It's Gross and it needs more attention. well that's the restroom and it's saying to me like who cares ? Yeah I care!! restrooms need to be clean too I notice the floor in the lobby needs some attention too and it appears to be same way how the restrooms are. There more little things that can be fixed easily but it needs someone time to be fix Why 5 starts on the food ? Well they're food is really good the barbacoa was not greasy the refried beans were perfectly cooked . And the flautas the rice was really good the only thing I NOTICE THEYRE GORDITAS ARE NOT HOME MADE SO THEY JUST BUY THEM ALREADY COOKED. THEY JUST OPENED THEM AND FRYED FOR A FEW MINUTES AND BOOM ITS READY THATS ALL I HAVE TO SAID ABOUT THIS PLACE SO FEEL FREE TO TRY ON YOUR WAY TO NORTH AUSTIN. PLEASE EXCUSE MY LOGOS AND BAD TYPES BUT I NEVER WENT TO SCHOOL FOR English
google avatar

Kristal B.

Yelp
I recently moved to the area from Corpus Christi & it has been really hard to find good Mexican food. The taquitos Mexicanos were almost as good as back home! Way better than other restaurants I've tried in the area. Will definitely be back often!

Chris H.

Yelp
It's pretty dirty inside, with an unpleasant smell. The customer service is sub par. The breakfast tacos and prices are pretty hard to beat.
google avatar

Neekie R.

Yelp
More of a 3.5 star experience but the show must go on. Short version: cheap, decent food with some heat to it. I'll be back! Great: the pricing was pretty dang good! $5.99 for migas with decent flavor and jalapeños (fresh, yum), beans, potatoes and 4 tortillas. $2.99 for 3 big fluffy pancakes. And $3.99 for a margarita. The salsa was spicy and made me happy! Good: the migas were good, not mind blowing but not burnt. The tortillas could be broken up better in them but I'm ok with the way it came. The beans were bland to ok. I really liked the potatoes. The pancakes were pretty good. Dark in color but not burned and still soft and fluffy. I actually prefer them like this as there was no odd "Is this done or cooked" sections. The syrup was sweet and pretty sure just a generic pancake syrup. Definitely not maple. I could do withouts: really loud TV (but I should've seated myself far from it), no chips before 11am, fake butter and store bought tortillas. Bad: server didn't check if I needed anything after bringing out my food (but I didn't need anything because she covered me in one shot). Waited for check for 15 minutes after she took my plates before realizing I have to go to counter to pay. Margarita tasted odd but it was 1030am so maybe I just had poor timing on that. It was only available on the rocks.
google avatar

Innis P.

Yelp
The food was "pretty good". The barbacoa in my burrito really didn't have flavor. There was only one waiter working that day but did serve us well. The straws for the drinks where too short for the size of cup, but besides all that i would recommend eating here
google avatar

MICHELE V.

Yelp
Just when I was going into high hover with how long my order of three breakfast tacos was taking they brought them out. I packed them in my backpack and walked the 0.2 miles back to the Honda Service center. Opened the foil package and inside were three HUGE stuffed tacos. Cheese, potato, chorizo, and bacon on flour. Really really tasty! No salt needed (potatoes actually were well seasoned). Bacon crisp. White cheese. Fresh tortillas. And they were piping hot! So, turns out that the wait was worth it. $5.52 for 3 each 4-ingredient tacos. Full after 1 1/2 of them. Yay! leftovers for tomorrow! (Note, this review was started in February, and just now catching up on posting today)
google avatar

Rick V.

Yelp
I love their breakfast tacos... they're huge and tasty. My fiancé doesn't care for the sauce on the huevos rancheros, but did like her tacos.
google avatar

Ashley M.

Yelp
Why did we wait so long to try La Tapatia?! We had breakfast tacos with the verde sauce and all loved our food! Great quality tortillas AND eggs! The sauce. Oh the sauce! Hubby had one bean and egg taco and couldn't stop talking about how amazing the beans were.
google avatar

Felicia G.

Yelp
It's tucked away in shopping. Not very big but you can dine in. Food is average or a little better. Quick service . Good portions.
google avatar

Hayden W.

Yelp
Good food, cheap prices! That truly is as good as it gets. This is not the prettiest place in the world. The shopping center kind of makes you feel like your in Houston or something. This food is not about presentation or how pretty it looks. Its about abundance, taste and price. I first went here in September and have been back atleast 6 times since then. The breakfast tacos are big, greasy and tasty! If you plan on ordering breakfast tacos for a large group of people or your co-workers at the office... this is the place to do it! I caution you to make sure you ask them to double bag your order. The tacos can get quite greasy and if you aren't careful, they will come out the bottom of the back and mess up your car seat, clothing etc... Lunch specials are off the chain. Last time I went there I had the 3 taco plate. It came with 3 BIG hardshell tacos, rice and beans... oh and chips and salsa are free, and it was all for only $4! You can't get a better deal than that anywhere. Here's a tip, if you plan on order 3 breakfast tacos for $2.50 make sure you bring cash because they won't take debit card for orders under $5.
google avatar

Brad N.

Yelp
Great food for a good price. The girlie friend and I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the good service.
google avatar

Larrisa R.

Yelp
This place is GROSS. The rice and beans are cold and flavorless. The food is old and just warmed up if they even do that. Do NOT recommend.
google avatar

Panda B.

Yelp
Thought I could drop in here for some quick breakfast tacos, sat waiting over 15 minutes for 3 tacos to go. Place had 2 tables and everyone had food and people sitting after me. One guy walked in after me ordered. Sat. Got his food and left. Another guy I watched walk in. Sat down and got his stuff. I am waiting 10 minutes after seeing this. For three simple corn tacos. Will not be back. What a waste of time.

Kris R.

Yelp
We were excited to go here because we love Mexican food. But I got really really bad food poisoning which is surprising for the food that I chose. So I will not be going back
google avatar

Steban D.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. I we stopped in before we went to see a movie at the theater next door. Thought we'd eat a meal rather than spend an arm and a leg on popcorn and drinks. We thought we grab an appetizer and maybe some queso. Their menu had a lot of items on there so it was hard to pick what we were going to get. I noticed as they were bringing plates of food out of the back to peoples table that the plates were filled! I could not believe the amount of food on the plates. We settled on a torta with pastor meat inside. The bread was soft and even toasted a little bit on the cook top. The cheese was melted and gooey just the way i like it. I took my first bite ...And yes i was screaming hot, burnt my dang tongue. Normally i don't eat my food that hot i usually open it up and let it cool down, but this one i kept eating. It was really good. They have a torta cubana that i am looking forward to try next time. The chips are average, but the salsa...Wooo that's a spicy salsa. Well spicy for me at least. My only complaint is that the service was a little slow. Looked like there was just the one waiter and 1 other person running out the food. Overall i would rate a 3.5 but i rounded up to 4 star. I can't wait to go back and try more.
