Wow! Im very impressed with this place both the staff & the food definitely 10 of 10! It was very busy but they take care of you right away, our waiter Victor was to attentive. I really wasn’t expecting this great of service & food. This brunch has a large variety of authentic Mexican food. The have Menudo, picadillo, carne con papas, barbacoa, consomé, chilaquiles, discada, chicharrón con salsa, puerco en morita, puerco en salsa verde, tinga, mole, arroz, spaghetti verde y rojo, flautas, hot chocolate, champurrado, café the olla, aguas frescas & so so so much more. The food was really good, way better than other places. The staff is so friendly, even though it’s such a busy spot I promise you you’ll get taken care of & good. I loved the mariachi the ambience is just a happy place. Everyone here is smiling & happy. 😊 Best Mexican brunch in Houston, Tx!

Google
We received unparalleled service from Susana, who highly recommended the atole de nuez, which was delicious. The barbacoa and consome were my favorite, but there were too many delicious options. I especially loved the mariachi and the music they played afterwards. I'll definitely be back.

Google
Came in for Sunday brunch. Waited about 1 hr in the line but the ambiance was great. Susana was our server and make the experience pleasant. Would love to come back! Very good authentic food and music. Parking is available in the building and can be validated when you pay.

Google
I went Sunday for brunch and everything was delicious. Definitely coming back soon. If you go, asked for Fernanda she is the best waitress. They have mariachi on Sundays I don’t know if is every Sunday.

First time trying this place out and it did not dissapoint very good service from the moment we walked in our server Carmen & helper Sandra was very attentive bringing us refills and asking if We needed anything else , they have an extensive variety of plates I personally loved their chilaquiles in red sauce , also the arroz con leche was delicious we will definitely come back and bring our friends to try it out.

Google
Amazing all you can eat Mexican food! My husband and I came Sunday morning, a little after they opened and there was already a line. Our wait was maybe about 10-15 mins but we didn't mind. The food selection is amazing, fresh and everything tasted so good. Comfort food. It is a little pricey. It came out to $83 for 2 adults. $30.95 a person and $7 for drinks. You can choose between aguas frescas or coffee but you can't switch. Which sucks in my opinion, I already paid so why not switch. The aguas frescas were TOO sweet, my husband tried about 3 different ones and they were all the same. I couldn't drink it. I ordered calle the olla and I loved it. Overall, it was amazing and we will definitely come back next time we are in town. Oh, I asked our server to validate our parking, she said she did but it didn't work. We had to pay $8.66 for parking 👎

Google
Went for Sunday brunch and blew me away! The food is amazing and what a fun experience with the mariachi. Felt like being at a Mexican resort.

Google
Buffet style and Mariachi is only on Sundays but I recommend to reserve a table a day prior, otherwise you will be waiting over an hour for a table. We went on a saturday this time and the menu is not as big but the food is delicious 😋 I highly recommend Sopes 👌

Yelp
Great location and cool vibes. Service and atmosphere: Customer service was top notch. Everybody was friendly and very helpful. The restaurant is located in the Houston underground system that stretches over 95 blocks! It was modern, clean, and well organised. They also had live mariachi band. Food and drinks: We arrive here on Sunday as this is the only day they offer all you can eat buffet. Even though we arrived 2 hours before closing time, the line and wait time were still long. It was worth it though. Great selection of well prepared and seasoned traditional Mexican dishes. Many meats and vegetables variations to choose from. Side salsas were fresh and gave extra depth and textures. You can choose soft drinks or coffees to accompany your meals. Pricing: $$/$ - just over $40 per person but considering the location, all you can eat and food quality I think it's worth it.

Yelp
Antojitos and weekend fixed price brunch: One of the best options might be the Saturday and Sunday brunch downtown for a fixed price at La Taquiza. Because of family friends, I've been traveling in Mexico for over 50 years, and I was very impressed by the quality and the authenticity of the food being presented there. I think you will be well pleased.

Yelp
My and 3 people came here for the Sunday Brunch buffet with out a reservation around 12:15 and we were able to get a table real quickly, so we got lucky, it is best to make a reservation. Once you are seated, they will ask you to pay first and you have to choose between a hot drink or a cold drink and you can not switch back and forth. They will place a wrist on you before you can go get your food. My suggestion is to scout out the food they have here so you can plane a strategy on what food to get because you will not be able to try everything here one time. If you park in the garage they will validate your parking here. The staff here are very helpful and make sure you got the right food to go with everything, for example I was getting the mole first, one the staff remind me don't forget the rice to go with the mole. Since we already paid first, we left cash for the tip, so it is good to bring some cash with you. The live mariachi was great! I was to make a note that the buffet is $30.95 per person and the drink is 7.00 with free refill.

Yelp
This was our first time coming here and at first I thought it was going to be a flop because of all the reservation issues had and because when we got there we were put a little distance from the actual buffet area with 3 small tables for 11 people celebrating my birthday. When we mentioned that we wanted a complete table we were told that's all they had but it ended up being ok because they added another table and it gave us easy access to come and go. The service is self serve buffet style and wow it was wonderful. The ambiance is casual but most were dressed nice. We did have a busboy checking up on us and constantly cleaning off our tables as well as a waiter who ended up taking care of us even though there were attitude issues at first. So much authentic food, tasty, well seasoned and everything you can imagine. I had a little bit of everything until I filled my plate. Many authentic dishes served in clay pots. Fresh fruits, and pastries. Aguas frescas, Mexican coffee and more. The con with this is that you pay $7 for hot drinks and $7 for cold drinks not $7 for both. If you want both a hot and cold drink it's $14. Unbelievable but so delicious. I definitely recommend coming here, we were not hurried to leave whatsoever. We enjoyed the mariachi, they sang happy birthday to everyone celebrating their birthday plus other songs. Very clean establishment. Well worth the price. Coming back soon. We really enjoyed it.

Yelp
Food was really authentic alot of options , our server was named Carmen , was very attentive and friendly . Was busy but she did her best to make sure we were taken care of . Kind of pricey but food was worth it so come with an appetite, and book reservation for no wait !

Yelp
Ordered through lunchdrop at work. I ordered two tacos with two salsas- the birria and the tinga. My order was missing one of the salsas. When I tried to call the restaurant, I wasn't able to leave a message or speak with anyone because there is an issue with their phone. I used the one salsa on both tacos and they were still super dry. Disappointing

Yelp
I decided to have a birthday lunch with two of my friends on Sunday and I absolutely loved it!!! Parking was easy and getting to the restaurant was super easy as well. I didn't mind paying the $8.66 parking. The waiter was so nice and friendly. He was so helpful helping me make my chilaquiles. I love how spacious the place was and that the tables weren't super close to each other. I love the open concept. The hours online do need to be corrected because it says it's opened from 11-3 and when I asked they said they close at 2pm Sunday. We got there at noon and had plenty of time to eat. Everything I ate was delicious and authentic. I was so happy with my visit, I will definitely go back again. I loved the mariachi, the food and the customer service. The waiter checked on us a few times and was just so welcoming and friendly.

Yelp
Good food very tasteful, good atmosphere and family friendly. Lots of food to enjoy because it's a buffet style on sundays. My kids loved all the food. Specially sopes, flautas and chilaquiles. Service is good but mostly you have to serve yourself, staff is very attentive and helpful in case you need help.

Yelp
Today I had an extremely poor experience here. The food is normally good - and the regular person that handles the orders is so friendly. But today, another gentleman was there (wearing an apron and taking the orders - no name tag). He was so rude to me that it shocked me. He spoke to me very rudely in front of customers. Accused me of giving the wrong information. I've never had such an experience and the only way I know to remedy this for the next person he serves is to give the feedback. Management, if you read this, tell him not to yell at customers who have ordered and paid on YELP and just want to pick up their order. After he caused a scene, it took forever for him to get my food made. Although he didn't know YELP was an option for order and payment - it is. He was wrong, rude, and didn't know what he was talking about.

Yelp
I went last weekend and it was the best experience ever the variety of food was out of this world! And had the best service! Karime best server will definitely go next weekend

Yelp
Huge fan of this place! Got a few tacos and churros during a happy hour with coworkers and it was a huge hit! Everything tasted fresh, and was really good. Was so happy to see vegan options and both were definitely good. The CDMX was probably my favorite! The employees are nice and happy to recommend things to try. I'll be back for a lunch for sure, it's one of the places that isn't super high priced in the tunnels.
google avatar

Jaime J.

Yelp
I got a birria torta and it wasn't worth the $15 price point. It was a decent size but doesn't come with fries or chips like most places offer. They did put a decent amount of meat in the torta but it was very bland, however, their mild salsa was pretty good so it saved the meal for me. Not bad but not great - I would only come here again if I'm near Understory, I'm starving, and there aren't any other places open.

Arturo P.

Yelp
Extremely pricy!! $30.00 per adult (no seniors discount ) and $7.00 for beverages (coffee Aguas frescas etc) Food is ok, but service is awful it's a huge place just like the food section in a mall but with one outlet only, we were 3 of us and they took us to the furthest tables far away from the buffet tables( I'm almost an 80 years old man with bad knees and one of my children has one bad as well), and the one they were giving us was so small that we felt like we were going to play house and when I asked the server to get us another table (they' were several booths just across available) and he told me that those were reserved for parties of 5 or more, so I refused to take that and asked to talk to the manager, and after awhile she agreed to move us there it was truly a very bad experience experience, and we will never gonna comeback ! (I attached some pics )

Yelp
I went to this taqueria in one of the Downtown Houston Tunnels. I had seen a social media review and wanted to try it out because I rarely venture into the tunnels and I'm rarely even downtown. Three (3) Birria tacos (2 beef and one vegan) + a small Jamaica (hibiscus juice) was $18! Are y'all serious? Okay, whatever. You had to walk up to get your food with a buzzer, it wasn't like I was being served sir-down by a waiter which made the price sting even more. The tacos were just okay, mid at best, but the star taco was the vegan CDMX Birria taco, along with the spicy green sauce, and the broth that was like chicken noodle soup. I've had much better-tasting Birria tacos, but I know everyone has their preference. You be the judge. The Jamaica was refreshing on such a hot day, but it was VERY sweet--as syrupy and it was, it should automatically be served with a glass of water to dilute it. Doubt I would be returning to this establishment, but maybe they cater to monied downtown office workers/tunnel-people, and not the casual suburbanite lurker fresh off the street. Star for service which was prompt and personable.

Angela ..

Yelp
the food was so freaking good,I 10/10 would recommend. the birria taste well cooked. The service is great as well

Yelp
I came here to last Sunday not knowing what I was getting into. I was staying downtown and just googled the closest place to me that had tacos. Apparently they had advertised an all you can eat Sunday brunch. The line was crazy long... but I was there... by the time I got up to register to pay they had pretty much ran out of everything but were offering a discount. I want to say I should have left then... but I waited an hour and was hungry... I pretty much had tacos and they had all the toppings. What really made me stay was the owner... he was busting his butt to try and take care of everyone and make sure they got food. He was very apologetic and he was passionate. From the food I did have it was good so I can only imagine if it was the full experience. I would recommend going early or just trying it on any other day. It took me a minute to find the place but it's located in a bank building that had a food court at the bottom. They did have live music to entertain you while you wait.

Yelp
Went for Sunday Brunch - very cool experience with breakfast buffet and so many options to choose from, including every Mexico City inspired meat you can think of. I believe it was about $27/person all you can eat style. Drinks were not included though and apparently they don't offer free water cups which I personally thought was odd. Besides that, the food was good and service solid. They also has a mariachi band playing which added to the fun ambience and experience.

Juju P.

Yelp
we had no issue with the food, however the experience and customer service itself made it not worth returning. we had a party of 4 and in our ticket we were charged for 6. Price for buffet with cold drinks id 40 but only 35 if you choose hot drinks for example coffee. we were charged 240 for a party of 4!!!! once we told them they were charging 2 extra buffets the lady became obviously bothered. not only that we all ordered hot drinks AND WERE CHARGED FOR COLD. Again brought it up and lady refused to make it right. will not be coming back!!!! We will tell others not to visit as well.
google avatar

Yelp
Brunch buffet had a lot of options and the service was great! The mole, chilequides, arroz con leche, napoles salad, all the fixings - all yum! The mariachi band was cool but the speakers were on blast as they went to each table. I would've preferred they played without the speakers so diners can have conversations.

Dolores M.

Yelp
We found this restaurant on instagram. The food is decent however in our opinion not worth our drive or the $40 per person. We had the experience, won't be back.
google avatar

Jason Z.

Yelp
Taco spot in the Understory. Came for breakfast; their menu was extremely small and not very diverse in terms of breakfast taco options. Went with chorizo. Very average, not in a great or bad way but just very standard chorizo and eggs. Nothing outstanding and pricing is pretty inline considering the location. Tortillas are decent; did not check to see if they were homemade or bulk bought.
google avatar

Franchesca W.

Yelp
Food was pretty good. Service was amazing. Nice area, music was nice, and convenient drink refills you can get yourself. Sodas are not free refill though.
google avatar

Avroz D.

Yelp
The food was alright, and the service was quick and self-serve. Places didn't seem too busy.

Yelp
They have $1 pastor tacos on Tuesdays along with the free bingo! It's been such a fun time eating tacos and trying to win some gift cards. There are some pieces of pineapple that add a great sweetness to the depth of pastor. They are street taco size so I usually get more than I think I need. I have only seen 2 kind ladies work there and they are fast in getting you what you need. Since it is in Understory, the there is plenty of seating and the decor is so aesthetic. Be sure to get your parking validated if you're there on the week days after 4 pm. It will be validated for 2 hours.

Yelp
Visited LaTaquiza at about 2:30pm on a Monday, so no lunch rush. This spot is in the tunnels, I dropped down at the Chase Bank Lobby on Main St. Ordered the Steak Street Tacos Trio with hot salsa to go. The order comes with a small sopa de fideo. I brought it back to the office and folks were commenting how great it smelled. These were some tasty tacos and the sopa was fantastic.
google avatar

Tiffany N.

Yelp
These are not great tacos. They are very bland and the birria tasted like watered down noodle soup. The only saving grace is to the amount of meat you get, but for the price and time it takes to bring to the counter they are definitely not worth it. Hard pass.

Valerie G.

Yelp
I live in Corpus Christi and my brother who lives in the Houston area told me of a spot I would love. He wasn't kidding... this place is amazing The variety of different dishes you have is something else. I'll be back very soon....
google avatar

Claudia G.

Yelp
All I can say is that if you have not gone to La Taquiza yet, you are seriously missing out! Oscar, the owner, is absolutely the BEST to talk to, share stories with, learn about his story in Mexico and the food. The food! My people, the food is like dancing right into a vibrant restaurant in a Mexico City. The flavors and ingredients are so fresh, tasty and like a distant memory of all the amazing food that Mexican cuisine has to offer. It's been a while since I've been to Mexico but La Taquiza quickly reminds me! The variety is amazing from savory to sweet and everything in between! The cafe de olla is so delicious that I can easily drink 3-4 cups and not even think about being so wired afterwards, especially when I don't normally drink coffee. You can also now get great take out on the Too Good To Go app and La Taquiza does not disappoint there either with great portions of their Sunday brunch. The mariachi is an excellent touch on Sundays and overall the downtown location is perfect. You'll even get your parking garage ticket validated! What more can you ask for? It's the best spot for families, dates, quick in and out lunch or a great space to eat alone too. Don't hesitate and head to La Taquiza!! You won't be disappointed ever!!
google avatar

Yelp
I had been eyeing this new spot in The Understory since they were "coming soon" and I finally got a chance to try them for lunch on Thursday! I ordered a single birria taco and a single chicken queso taco. Two little street tacos with hella garnishes and one salsa (plus a little round up tip) was $10.53. It must be because of the location as to why their prices are so high - location and inflation - but I was hoping to feel so satisfied after eating them that I wouldn't care how much it cost me: I was not. Considering it was peak lunch hour I expected a bit of a wait: so I waited. And waited. And anxiously waited. For almost 30 minutes! Geez. By then I was super hungry and excited to eat my tacos - especially the birria. But my excitement quickly turned to disappointment when I realized the birria taco didn't come with consomé. The flavor of the meat was still pretty good (both tacos) but would have been better with consome and a better tasting salsa. The spicy salsa had a musty taste to it. My tortilla was also falling apart so I had to eat it with a fork. I would also add they put ALOT of onions and cilantro so don't bother paying for extra. I must admit that the actual overall experience was underwhelming. But they do give away Mexican candy at the counter :-)
google avatar

Ed G.

Yelp
Yeah...so Birria may be tunnels-buzzworthy but not at this price point. I ordered 3 tacos which was supposed to be a special, but there's an upcharge when you mix-and-match Birria and tinga. Then cheese costs way more. I paid $18 for 3 tacos, which, last time I checked was supposed to be campesino food. Taste was ok, food was hot, and the consomme was salty but the dulces and pickled onions were a nice addition.
google avatar

Jasmeen E.

Yelp
This is located in the understory hall in downtown Houston. The customer service was great and the food was good too. The food comes out so fast. I ordered and within 5 minutes my buzzer was going off to pick up my food. I would come back again. The hall it's located in is very nice love the vibes there. Also it's street parking because it's downtown so be mindful of that
google avatar

Hafid R.

Yelp
Just got out of the Sunday Cazuelas with the biggest smile on my face, even my tummy is smiling . They have EVERYTHING, and this is coming from someone born AND raised in Mexico City. Definitely give them a try but most importantly, vengan con hambre por que van a querer probar de todo y no van a poder

Yelp
Ordered online via Ritual but never got an acknowledgement email as they didn't want to accept the Taco Dollar Tacos Tuesday deal items they posted as order options on Ritual and Square which are their ordering platforms. Then when I called to confirm the order, the guy who answered the phone said they don't acknowledge orders from Ritual and never got my "ticket". So I went back online via their website and ordered the same thing via their Square system. Only to go up to the counter at pick up time to be told the orders weren't made as they won't be honored since they won't accept "Dollar Tacos" they posted on their own ordering platforms. No phone calls were made to let me know that the order(s) were cancelled. Please take it down from your ordering options and posts if it's not a valid deal any longer. It was my first time wanting to try this place and after the lack of customer service and lack of communication. I won't ever try it. Whilst I was grateful to get prompt refunds only after demanding them, it was unprofessional to not call me to let me know the order was canceled. It wasted my lunch hour to have me show up only for them to tell me they cancelled my orders because they didn't want to honor prices of items they posted on their platforms. Even if it was an "off" day for the staff it showed a lack of professionalism and courtesy that they didn't give me a simple call to let me know that the order couldn't or wouldn't be fulfilled. Never going back again.
google avatar

Katy P.

Yelp
I came here a few times, and the food has been excellent, but the prices are so absurd that I can't justify coming back. Yes, it's tasty, but for the pricepoint, it's just sad.

Steven Y.

Yelp
Awesome street tacos. I had the trio of pastor tacos and they were legit. Tried some red juice next to the cashier and it was fantastic. Hibiscus and lime I think
google avatar

Emma Sarai M.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of trying the Sunday Brunch Mexican buffet and I cant boast enough of how good the food was. The wide selection of authentic food was great along with the unlimited refills of aguas frescas. The added touch of live mariachi music was lovely and made me feel in touch with my cultural background. Will most definitely return again.

Maria R.

Yelp
Owner kicked us out for giving them a review, threatened to get security involved if we didn't do it voluntarily, saying he wouldn't give us our money back as if we even asked for a refund...Went in today for their Sunday brunch and I had a deal of $20 off from the HotPass membership, our turn came and the cashier asked the owner about it, he immediately started yelling at me and accused me of having a fake coupon, saying he wasn't doing that, that it was invalid and trying to go back and forth with me. Like sir I'm not trying to argue with you, I showed him who it was from and that I pay for the membership and it included this place, showed him the coupon again and said he didn't agree to that with Marissa (houstonhotspots on IG) and he said that he would only accept it in regular days, later called his manager and she confirmed that they had agreed to it so he said he would only make it valid this one time. We only stayed because we didn't want to had waited in that long line for nothing but bffr who would bring a fake coupon, at least the food wasn't all that bad but jeez guy has no clue what he agrees to or customer service experience. So chaotic and not worth the headache, everybody was just looking at me getting yelled for no reason.

Ana M.

Yelp
Will not recommend this place. We had the breakfast tacos, chilaquiles, and steak tacos. Nothing was good. We were part of a large group and the only thing was ok was the beef quesadillas.

steven s.

Yelp
Great service but the food was pathetic 15$ for some basic food that was overcooked and and had no flavor. Tasted more of the grease from the uncleaned grill than I did of the meat.
google avatar

Sergio A.

Yelp
Wow the food here is delicious. On Sundays they have mariachi group playing. Had a Birria torta soooo good. Everyone enjoyed there plates that are on the pictures. No alcohol at the moment they will be opening soon. The food is super fast coming out. Customer service is excellent.

Amanda H.

Yelp
Everything was great! the staff was great as well! The food was fresh and they kept it refilled. Definitely recommending this place!
google avatar

Jaime F.

Yelp
Yummy quesitacos surpassed my expectations. they are very good for downtown Houston tunnel food court shops. Love the food court very nice

Jamie J.

Yelp
I work in the building so have the food often. It is delicious and I think the price point is comparable to other places. Those complaining about price have to consider the cost of food is not their only overhead. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Niqua L.

Yelp
I had their rice pudding and I've had a sweeter and more creamy version. Also, it is a good portion size yet the rice wasn't that soft.
google avatar

Marie H.

Yelp
Updating because I will not be able to come here anymore and it makes me sad. I have tried many times now to order so that I get both red and green salsa for my plate of three tacos. The staff seem to be simply incapable of doing this, even though the menu says if you order individual tacos you should get a salsa for each. And after my initial experience with the staff refusing to give me a second salsa even after I explained to them that I had not ordered the nonexistent "combo trio", I just can't correct my order any more times. Yes, I have anxiety. So part of this is on me. But it should not be this impossible to get what you order. I'm not even ordering off-menu. This place has a stinginess problem with their salsa that is not doing them any favors.
google avatar

Samantha V.

Yelp
Came here on my lunch break and the guy at the register was so welcoming. We received the food and it was delicious and large portion tacos. I pre judged because most taco spots Downtown short you on the meat and the quality is below average but this spot surprised me and I was really satisfied. The tacos come with Fideo and the corn in the cup is flavorful and just 10/10. Loved it.

Taylor E.

Yelp
Went to this place and ordered a chorizo and potato taco for breakfast and the guy gave me an egg and chorizo taco. I'm allergic to egg. I heard him tell the cook in Spanish egg even though it was on my receipt ordered correctly. So I tell him, "no, I'm allergic to egg, make sure it's chorizo and potato". He said she knows. I get my order and what happens, it's wrong. I take it back and have them correct it. I go back another day and he did the same thing except the potato wasn't cooked. He gave me raw potato. The guy is an ass. They don't deserve the business. I tried to be nice by going back another time but clearly he's an ass and plenty of other good restaurants.

Sonja P.

Yelp
1st time eating here. It smelled so delicious. Unfortunately, it did not taste as good as it smelled. Even though I chose mild, my tacos should've still had some flavor, and my meat was super tough. Sorry guys.

John S.

Yelp
cashier over charged me by a dollar - rang up price that didn't match price online - said it was a different location so different price. then i pointed out same price on menu billboard over his head, mumbled something and wouldn't refund me. so he lied about the price and stole a dollar from me. and the food is not that great.
