Tenuta del Gallo

"Whether you dine indoors in the charming, romantic dining room or outdoors with views of the surrounding countryside, you’ll enjoy traditional local cuisine and classic Italian favourites at this restaurant. Our inspectors particularly enjoyed the excellent beef carpaccio with truffles and the local guinea fowl with chickpeas. Comfortable guestrooms are also available." - Michelin Inspector

Where do we even begin. We got married at La Tenuta del Gallo in May 2025 and honestly it was the best few days of our lives. Stefano and his family went above and beyond to give us the most perfect wedding. Our guests are still talking about how wonderful the whole thing was. The food was the best we have tasted. The wedding was spectacular. The service impeccable. If you are thinking about booking here for your wedding, do not hesitate! We cannot wait to visit again. We only had three children in the wedding party but they were completely spoilt with ice cream and affection that is typical of Italians towards children. We will never forget the magic of our wedding and thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.

If you are looking for a hide-away in a beautiful setting and tranquil environment – look no further! La Tenuta del Gallo will fulfill your wishes and needs. In the middle of no-where in the Umbrian countryside this lovely little Relais offers all you need for a few nights “away from it all” – or a full holiday – without you having to leave the property, should you wish. Or make it your base for exploring Umbria for a number of days, which my husband and I did on our recent self-drive tour of Italy. You will instantly feel at home.||The Relais is situated on the grounds of a huge olive grove and surrounded by a beautiful park-like garden with flowering rose-beds and subtropical vegetation and boats a very tempting infinity-pool with stunning views of the olive grove and forested hills. Sunbeds and comfortable chairs abound around the pool and in the garden in order for you to find just the spot that suits you the best for liking up the sun, read a book in the shade or a chat with your fellow travelers. Peaceful and tranquil. All while you are pampered by the host and staff offering delicious home-made food on the large covered terrace or in one of the fine indoor saloons. The limited number of rooms and hence guests make the experience intimate, stress-free and almost family like. And then you feel a bit “royal”… The style of the Relais is difficult to explain or pin down. From the outside it looks like a large old farm – but once you enter you get the feeling of being at a mini castle or manor house with a row of saloons with big sofas, fireplaces, trinkets and furniture from bygone days, while the rooms bid you goodnight with large four-poster canopy beds… You are simply brought back in time. ||Most guests enjoy all their meals at the Relais – but it is not a must or anything. All you need to do is to let the staff know, if you will be requiring dinner or not. We ate two out of four nights at the Relais and enjoyed well cooked and tasty meals. For longer stays the menu card may be a bit too small to offer sufficient variation though. The nearest town is the small hilltop village of Amelia – a some 7 km drive away. We went in there for dinning but must admit that the village is too small to have much to offer in this respect (one nice restaurant in the old section though – but a great genuine pasticceria and gelateria). ||As this was our first visit to Umbria we were eager to explore the region and in that connection we did a lovely day excursion to the wine-town of Montefalco with tasting enroute and a rustic Italian lunch at one of the little restaurants in the town-square. A lovely little hilltop village, that we can truly recommend. We did likewise visit the Frascassi Caves – a 2 hr. drive away in neighboring Marche. So absolutely worth a visit too though. But you need not go anywhere – if resting, relaxing, swimming in the pool, strolling the grounds and enjoying good food is your agenda in a beautiful setting – Relais de Tenuta del Gallo is the right place! We hope to come back. |

We fell in love with this estate from the outside to the inside. The whole place is beautifully built on the hill, very private and quiet. Attention was given to every little detail from the parking areas, the walk ways, the garden, to the main dining room, the swimming pool, and the room we stayed in. The service was excellent. We found the staffs were warm, well trained, and accommodating. I looked forward to wake up early each morning and watched the staffs meticulously set up the breakfast table. My husband and our friends enjoyed discussing local wines with the gentleman staff who is very knowledgeable about local wines. We ate dinner in the main dining room one night, in the atrium one night, and the outdoor one night. The vegetables were delicious and were grown in their estate. Our room was clean, well kept, and had a very nice view of the bell tower and the hills. The infinity swimming pool was large, clean, gorgeous, and modern. The only thing I would change was that I wished we would stay longer here.

We stayed at La Tenuta del Gallo this past July and were warmly greeted by Tamara. Our family of four stayed in the cottage near the infinity pool; it had two well appointed, comfortable, air conditioned, large bedrooms and bathrooms; perfect for my husband and I and our teenage daughters. The pool was amazing, the view spectacular and the interiors of the main "castle" and cottage all elaborate and thoughtfully appointed. We are disappointed we only had the one night as it would have made an excellent "home base" where we could have explored the countryside and then recuperated in comfort. The dinner we had was one of the best meals in Italy and the cherry sorbet the most memorable dessert of our entire trip. As an aside, we left an item behind and the Owner (Marco) was so helpful in seeing its safe return to us.

We have bee n here many times and always plan for a new stay. The country setting is peaceful and green, roses and flowers all around. Each room is different from the others, antique furniture, elegant tapestry and fully equipped bathroom. The restaurant has an incredible cave with a wide wine selection, the food is always a nice surprise mixing Italian tradition with creative options. You have to come!

A wine and food lover recommended this oasis and we were just delighted. The room ( by the pool) was great. There are antiques everywhere. The food was fantastic and the owner directed us to the lower priced, local wines. Even arranged a tasting nearby. The property, including the pool are just the best and this is less than 90 minutes from the Rome airport!!

We arrived in this Relais for dinner because it had been suggested by a friend of us who works not so far (15km).The hosts, a sweet couple from Rome, were amazing, friendly and professional! The location was simply speechless: well-finished in the forniture and nothing but breathtaking for the sight of the sourranding valley. But let's talk about the food;probably it would be already enough, if I said that our youngest kid (an 8 yrs old man) after the first appetizer said: daddy this carrot sauce is terrific, definitely the best sauce that I have ever eaten! But I think that these two kind hosts snd their cook deserve more...they brough him a main dish (ravioli with bologna and pistachio) which was incredible, and in the meantime I was delighted by a superb pork cooked at low temperature and servedwith a Digione's mustard in wheats, not so easy to find in Italy, while my wife's taste buds were surprised by a perfect raw fillet, blood rare, served with black truffle cut to flakes there at the moment.Even the desserts surprised us, especially the cream brulé with licorice ice cream. At the end the owners offered us spirits and coffees and they started to chat with us for a while.....a perfect example of great host: obviously they could increase their quality, everyone can, but I can honest say that they havedone a great job so far! The next time that we will pass around this surprising area with my wife, I will stop by the Relais with her so as to enjoy also the experience of the rooms, the infinity pool and the beautiful plants in ted garden (roses, olive trees, etc.) ....the hosts deserve nothing less...and the guests as well 😉!
