The 17 Best Restaurants In Tampa

"This West Tampa spot started as a grocery store in the ‘70s and now includes a small bakery, a busy dining room, and a cafeteria. Grab a spot at one of the three U-shaped counters in the cafeteria next to the regulars who've been coming here for 40 years and order some tender puerco asado or palomilla steak that comes served on top of a paper map of Florida. Entrees are huge and come with two sides plus refillable bread, and whatever you can’t finish makes for a luxe beach picnic the next day. " - cheryl rodewig

If you want any Spanish Cooked Food, this is the place I go to. They have "every day" more than 5 or 6 different types of main dishes, Spanish Luncheon dishes. You can't go here and not want to eat something cause the food is very inviting and beyond me to say no.....Spanish (Mainly Cuban food) dishes and Latin Grocery Store. I'd say it's an excellent place to get lunch or dinner for that matter at a very reasonable price and the taste of the food brings you back over and over again. I go there all the way from Spring Hill to shop Latin ingredients and cooked food and when I leave, I go next door to the Bakery shop and get food to take back home cause in Spring Hill there isn't anyplace like these stores......Excellent place to go to......

Amazing! Grocery and Bakery right next door to the diner. We love the service here. It's fast and friendly and the food is so delicious. Our orders were taken quickly, and the food was delivered to our table just as quickly. Our orders came out correctly. Everything was perfectly seasoned, and the food temperatures were perfect. This restaurant and bakery are clean, well-stocked, and well-staffed. Overall, we enjoyed our dining experience.

Google
I’m hooked on the food at this place, it’s exactly what Hispanic folks like me are looking for. Hands down, it’s the best spot in the area for grab-and-go meals that hit the spot every time. I’ve had the carnitas, fried rice, bread pudding, soups, chicharrón, and chicken, everything’s packed with flavor and cooked just right. They also carry a wide variety of Hispanic groceries and fresh veggies. It’s like a little taste of home right here in Florida!

Google
Great Cuban style deli food! Delicious!! Also great grocery store with fresh vegetables and great looking fresh cut meats. We have ordered on several occasions the whole pork shoulder with a tray of yellow rice…. Always on point!

So loud. What is with the Cuban Lionel Richie at 12:00pm on a Sunday? Families are coming from church to share a meal and converse over food. Not yell at each other for 1.5 hours over loud music. I have been coming here since I was 8 and my family personally knew Max. The music is too loud for the older generation. Considered live music as a dinner option for after 6:00pm. Not in the afternoon on a Sunday .

Google
What a true experience of a true Old time Latin American bodega with all the latest foods. Fresh produce, canned and bottle imported goodies, fresh cuts of meat, and bottles and packages of spices like adobo and cilantro. Accessible entry with automatic doors. Accessible parking in free shared lot with curb cuts Aisles are a bit narrow to give it the bodega feel

Yelp
I tried to call in ahead to order from the food-to-go area. I understand they are super busy at 11am, but the lady who took care of me over the phone was so attentive; she stated there was a huge queue already and i still would have to wait in order for me to get my food. I explained kindly how that was not what i wanted to do as we were pressured for time (i work at an office, it's tough getting a break to have lunch truly) so she offered to solve my issue, took my order over the phone (4 boxes of food) and said she'd hand it over to the ladies at the food counter and when we'd come to pick up, to go ahead and skip the line, saying we had ordered ahead of time. so regarding customer service, i give 100%. regarding the whole grocery store, their products are assorted, good quality, they sell almost everything besides the usual, cleaning supplies, some over the counter medications, kitchen supplies, they have a meat department and their meat and chicken and fish are not bad priced at all. The prepared food is always great, the chicharrones are superb and you can even sit and eat over there. There is plenty or parking for everyone too. they have been in business for over 18 years.

Yelp
As I continued my search to satisfy my overpowering chicken and yellow rice craving, I stopped by my Go-To Cuban grocery in Drew Park. Arriving just before three p.m. on a Sunday, they were cleaning up and closing. No food. I was about to have a melt down. BUT, as West Tampa is but a few stop lights away, I knew there was hope. Driving on Columbus Ave, just East of Dale Mabry, I arrive at La Teresita Grocery, just across the street from La Teresita Café. I quickly checked Yelp reviews, and the 5-star reviews suggested I go in. The steam bar has a good selection of Cuban got dishes, and there was what I needed: Chicken. Yellow rice. Plantains. Then, I saw the price: $5.50. Hoping it's as good as it looks, I quickly pay and sit in a small, unpretentious dining area to enjoy my selection. It was JUST what I was craving! And, the generous portion was enough for another meal the following day! So, if you're looking for a delicious, generous-portion of Cuban food, THIS is It! But, better save some for me!

Yelp
I always assumed La Teresita Grocery was nothing more than a small Cuban/Spanish grocery store. Little did I know, this grocery store offers the most amazing hot buffet of Latin entrees. The food is not only tasty, but also ridiculously affordable! My friend and fellow Yelper, Gerardo L., was kind enough to show me the ropes at La Teresita Grocery. We met for lunch so that he could introduce me to the infamous chicharron (fried pork belly). After making a stop by the counter for chicharron and a back-up dish (incase I wasn't a fan of chicharron) Gerardo skillfully made his way through the store. He grabbed a lime and an avocado in the produce section and fresh piping hot corn tortillas, hidden in a cooler near the cash register. After selecting our beverages of choice we paid for our food and set up our feast in the small dining area. This dining area has zero atmosphere so I'd suggest enjoying your food at home or driving to MacFarlane park for a picnic. I was instructed to fill my tortillas with chicharron and avocado. After a squeeze of lime and a dash of salt I bit into what can only be described as the holy grail of chicharron tacos. Gerardo was slightly more critical and told me that the chicharron was on the dry side which made it more chewy. While I agree the chicharron was a little dry, it still tasted amazing. I'm now a fan and cannot wait to return to La Teresita Grocery for more chicharron!

Yelp
BEST RABO (Oxtail stew) I'VE EVER HAD!!! Pleeease let me know if you try it and think there's a better place. It's just a small Latin/Cuban grocery store with hot plate style servings but everything I've had there has been among the best Cuban food I've ever had in Tampa. Prices are extremely reasonable as you get a container of food with an entree and huge helping of rice and beans for $6-$7. If you like La Teresita restaurant or cafe, you need to walk across the street to this supermercado (I don't believe they're affiliated with the restaurant/cafe) and you'll likely never go back to the cafe. Recommendations: TRY EVERYTHING POSSIBLE IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER!!! Lechon asado, picadillo, chicharrones, ropa vieja, pollo guisado, chuletas...it's all great!

Yelp
Amazing Cuban food, super cheap, nice people. I'll be back soon. I have been looking for authentic Cuban food since moving to Tampa and I have found the place.

Yelp
My mother had told me. I would be able to find a lot of our Dominican hair products and food ingredients here. Which I did! The people were so nice and helpful. Can you tell...look how much I spent, just to bring back with me to Cali.

Yelp
I order from here through DoorDash a lot for lunch at work; along with my co-workers. Their food is really good and you get a big portion. The pepper steak is good, baked chicken is good (wish they had white meat though), ribs is good, avocado salad is AMAZING, stew chicken is good, and the beef stew was okay. . It was tough and there was not enough "juice/sauce". Love the food, and the prices. I do wish there was more options though!

Yelp
There aren't to many places in Tampa that gives me a Miami feel but this place definitely does. I've arrived here today with an empty stomach and im ready to attack. The food seems endless there was pork, beef, fish, two salads, yellow rice, white rice ahh food everywhere. They are also nice enough to let you sample the food before you choose it which is kool. I had pork and avocado salad!! My plate was $4.30 i also grabbed a Heineken for the road. Outside of cooked food you can shop for all your cooking needs and most brands you find here are not in the big stores so take advantage if your trying to cook up a latin cuisine.

Yelp
Holy Chicarrones, Batman! La Teresita Grocery is the real-deal neighborhood Latin market which is owned and operated by the Capdevila family. You'll find La Teresita Grocery occupying a major portion of the retail shopping plaza located along W. Columbus Avenue at the intersection with Lincoln Avenue. The market sits one block to the west of La Teresita restaurant, and a few steps away from La Teresita Bakery. Though deceptively small from the outside, this market has rows and rows of canned and packaged goods; hot sauces, spices, and soup mixes; Cuban coffee; fresh produce; a meat, poultry, fish, and deli counter; frozen food cases; refrigerated cases for eggs, cheese, milk, beer, and sodas (YAY! They have Diet Jupiña Pineapple Soda); baked goods; housewares; cooking utensils, and more -- all geared for the Latin community that they serve. Just inside the front door, and to your left is their famous lunch counter / steam tables which contain all of your favorite Cuban comfort food favorites including main dishes, soups, and sides. Luncheon-sized portions are priced between $5 - 7, You can take your food to go in Styrofoam containers, or carry it over to the nearby communal table and wolf down some deliciousness. Prepared foods can also be purchased in bulk to take to a party or office luncheon. The people working in this market are super-friendly and more than happy to help you find the right items even if your knowledge of the Spanish language is a bit lacking. They appreciate you trying to speak their language, and certainly appreciate you shopping in their neighborhood market. The grocery store is open until 7pm every night, and there is usually a line of people by the lunch counter taking prepared foods home for dinner. Excellent value, well-stocked shelves, delicious food, and super nice people!

Yelp
Convenient to pick up delicious Cuban bread and other necessities before traveling back home where NONE of the items can be purchased.

Yelp
Amazing authentic cuban/puertorican food for ridiculously cheap prices. I recommend this place in a heart beat

Ed S.

Yelp
I'm from NYC, I can honestly tell you their food here is on point, very tasty and great prices overall. Customer service and cleanness: A+
google avatar

Valerie Z.

Yelp
My mom and I get all of the ingredients we need for the Hispanic dishes we make here! The environment is friendly and they have just about everything you need to make a delicious meal. Also, their cafe/ lunch area is amazing, the food they make there is mouth-watering!!

Yelp
I was quite disappointed in La Teresita Grocery prepared foods. My selection was the fried pork belly in which I found extremely salty. It was overcooked too crunchy that left a bad taste in the mouth. I really wanted to love this pork belly but, the pictures that are shown from other reviewers and the pork belly I received were two different food items. I am having difficulty loading the pictures from this excursion. I also ordered the beef stew which looked delicious. But, once again this dish was salty. I have had the above two items at other Spanish groceries but they were not overly seasoned as these were. I do not think I will be back anytime soon. The other thing that bothered me is the individual who was serving the food weighed mine. The guy before me who spoke Spanish did not have his weighed. So just be careful when getting pricing on food items. There are no signs to define items. I was told by a Spanish person at another prepared foods area. If you cannot determine what it is do not order it.

Yelp
Best place for anything you can think of. Need meat for a BBQ? They have the best ! Need good food? Don't get me started of how yummy it all is . Iv had everything and not once was i dissapointed! TRY THE BREAD PUDDING!!!!! Need grocery shopping? They defff have that with great prices !! Need lottery and scratch offs? They have that too! To top it off the music makes you want to dance your way down each isle . This place is perfect . It's a one stop place which is so convenient.

Andrea F.

Yelp
Best cuban food ever! Delicious pork! Hidden gem for sure.
google avatar

Lindsey S.

Yelp
This is the only grocery store I have ever dance through, literally. The music was so good! That may not be an important factor for shopping, but it definitely made this place so much more fun for me. Browsing the aisles was like a culinary adventure. The range of different items here was mind blowing. Every turn around a corner brought more interesting things into view. In the end, I ended up with a can of Yerba Mate soda (you won't find THAT at your local Publix!), but I will be back here once I'm armed with some recipes for good Cuban food. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!

Yelp
I was going to a picnic style function and I had to bring some side dishes. I didn't want to buy the usual potato salad, coleslaw, or macaroni container. Instead I stopped at this store and bought a tray of boiled yucca, plantains, black beans and empanadas. The price was ridiculous for the amount of food I took with me. The food looked amazing so I went two days later and tried their pepper steak and it was phenomenal. Their lunch ranges from $5.50 to $8.00 and I believe that it's enough for two people. The store has a hot bar section, meat, produce, and essentials. people are nice and it feels good inside. The surroundings of the store are a little questionable. They have a long table to sit down but it's not an inviting dine-in place. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
This is one of the best spots for chicarron, I always meant to ask the workers when is the chicharron done, so I can catch it fresh. OMG. I love it! You can get limes, tortillas and Avocado and I swear I think I'm in latin america.
google avatar

Yelp
Oh my goodness! The BEST Cuban food I've had in a long time! I recommend this place to EVERYONE!!!!
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Dinner was good, arroz Moro with pernil and man do they serve lots of food, enough for 2 days. Chicharon taste great, and each plate was only $6. Will be returning.

Yelp
Had to re-do my review of La Teresita Grocery (due to the confusion of so many similarly named places next door to each other).. this is from a visit back in 9/2014 This place has really good Dominican food and I highly recommend. Just be aware that this is not associated with the La Teresita cuban restaurant or cafeteria or bakery. Dont confuse them. It is a combination small cafeteria (with 1-2 serving staff) and supermarket. You get several types of rice, plantains, chicken, pork and they put them into styrofoam containers that you can take with you. Helps alot if you speak spanish. I ordered "Arroz Con Guandule" some fried sweet plantains and chicken. The portions are very huge, very generous and the price was around $8. Not bad at all.
google avatar

N D.

Yelp
Found this place because I was feeling home sick from Miami, walked in here and felt like I was home in Little DR. They have everything you could ever need to cook a nice dominican meal and their prices are very resonable. This little market also sells hot food that is ready for pick up.
google avatar

EJ P.

Yelp
Wow I am Cuban and this is one of the best kept secrets in Tampa. The takeout food here is great and sooooooo cheap. Extensive menu of items available like roast pork, ropa vieja, goat, boliche, etc. CALL AHEAD IN THE MORNING TO ASK WHAT THEY ARE COOKING THAT DAY. Then go here like at 11 AM and get yourself a meal with pork, black beans and rice, and plantains for $5.50. Best deal ever!
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
The to-go food counter has expanded choices......now with over 10 entrees including boliche, oxtails and ceviche. Very rapid service, large portions, low price and opportunity to take a loaf of Cuban bread and grocery items. Quality is as good as the restaurant....for good reason.
google avatar

Rich D.

Yelp
Good Latino grocery that also serves up well-priced plated meals, all with unique things to give it a Cuban tilt of course. Good selection for it's size, around the outside walls is a big variety of chilled and non-chilled beverages, a full meat counter, and small produce section with good variety for it's size. Since this is a typical neighborhood grocery, sometimes there isn't a huge quantity displayed, but that certainly doesn't reflect on the variety offered. In some items like beans the variety is excellent (I bought a 16 bean soup mix I can't wait to try).....better than most markets of this kind I've visited. As I've been going to La Teresita cafeteria for some time, I hope to get back here soon to try out the food line and compare. As for the actual food buffet line, most everything in the long selection of food warmers looked great behind the glass. I wish I could taste test them all. Food is available for sit-down (there are longer tables in rows to eat at) or takeout. While behind the warming food line the different plated meals are displayed in pictures high on the wall about ~10 feet away, I couldn't get a good view of what the items looked like. Some of the items in the food warming pans have somewhat similar liquid/sauce covering a large part of them making it hard to get a good view if you don't have good familiarity with Cuban cuisine. Given that, I really wish they would place labels showing the names of different items on the glass in front of the pan warmers. Yes, you can ask the kind server behind the glass, but labels would make it much easier. I found the entire facility very clean considering the good amount of traffic that was in the store just on a Monday afternoon. On the Latino grocery scale, my scores are:' Atmosphere: 4 Service: 4 for the butcher, the only place I asked for help Food: n/a Value: 4

Haley P.

Yelp
Tried the lunch takeout line the food was so good! Huge serving of your choice of rice and beans with meat, I had pork. $6 the empanada was good too! Also huge side of plantains.

Yelp
Nice little place. Doesn't immediately strike you as being very clean--but overall I liked it. Ate lunch from their food bar. Food was great.

Hyunwoo P.

Yelp
I know what you're thinking. Five stars? No way. Maybe four stars at best. Now hear me out. I'm a broke guy who likes to cook and eat well. So when I went to La Teresita Grocery on the search of more affordable meat to slow cook, I was pleasantly surprised. I felt everything was cheaper and/or higher quality in terms of the produce and meat than Walmart. Walmart is gross or at least the one closest to me and the Publix is nice but I feel it's overpriced. P.S. I got the roast pork meal; The Sides were yuca and rice with black beans. 5 bucks for that much food? Are you kidding? So delicious with some Srirracha.
