Yelp
Delicious hot food. Generously portioned tacos and large, tasty burrito! I called and ordered for pickup but it's basically the same prices for takeout via Yelp (no upcharge) so I would do that next time. I don't think it has the "ambiance" to eat there but phenomenal food!

Yelp
How you gonna sell me a $10 burrito and not give me any sauce? Burrito had nothing but meat and rice in it. No beans, no crema, no cheese, no avocado, nothing... just some dry rice and fried meat And it wasn't wrapped in foil and came with ZERO sauce. Sorry but this is MIDS!!! I sht you not, I threw this burrito away and drove up the street to MINY'S so I could fulfill my burrito needs. More like La Turdé. IT STINKS

Yelp
Looking for a great spot to grab a quick bite of Mexican food in Ypsi? You definitely need to be giving La Torre Taqueria a try. In the Ann Arbor/ Ypsi area, there are a few contenders as far as solid & authentic mexican food, and La Torre comes ready to vie for a spot among the ranks. The prices are very reasonable (especially for 2023 prices), and you can get pretty good value out of the meals as well. A friend and I swung by recently for dinner, and both got tacos. The tacos themselves are solid, but the real winner is the sauces -- both sauces at the table are absolutely fantastic. Providing a great balance of flavor and heat (while remaining distinct to themselves), the sauces are an excellent complement to your meal. In addition to the sauces & the tacos, the burritos are another highlight. Not just big, think massive! Each burrito is easily 2 meals... one asterisk is that they're heavy on the rice, so be prepared to drop a good amount of sauce in there to keep them from feeling super dry. Overall, I think La Torre is worth your foodie exploration - it's a great combo of value and flavor!

Yelp
Absolutely delicious burrito and shrimp tacos. They serve you very fast and take excellent care of you. Awesome spot for some Mexican food with a huge menu.

Ashley P.

Yelp
Delicious and pretty authentic food in a lowkey restaurant. Incredible lengua and carnitas here, and large serving sizes. This is probably a top pick for me for local Mexican food.

David A.

Yelp
Best tacos in town, the shrimp tacos are the best, It was really well nice served,

Yelp
OK, so I'm from the Bay Area and I can't lie. I was closeminded when I reviewed the selections from DoorDash. I was stuck in the hotel room because my eye became red and irritated - not sure if it was because I was up till 11 to work or if it's because I'm not used to the air quality in Ann Arbor but because my vision was impaired, I wasn't able to drive. Hesitant but ordered the following: + lengua quesadilla (get this) + chicken burrito (get this as well) + tres leches cake Because my delivery did not come w/ utensils, I only ate a few bites of the top of the cake. I did not get to enjoy this so I will leave the review as is for that item. Even though I was by myself in that hotel room, I could not bring myself to hold a slice of cake in my hand. The lengua took me by suprised. It was tender and delicious! The burrito was pretty filling and flavorful and I loved both of the salsa; fresh and spicy. I am unsure when will be my next trip out there but I will certainly go back.

Yelp
I was in line at a grocery store known for selling bottles of wine for just a few bucks, and one of the cashiers was telling a customer about their favorite local taqueria. When I heard them drop the name "La Torre" I was compelled to shout "La Torre!" back and raise my fist in approval! If you know, you know. Sure, the place might not be competitive with the Mexican spots in the Mission District, but for here in Ann Arbor, it's legit. My daughter was thrilled that we found lengua tacos, which are one of her favorites, and aren't available at the taco spots closer to home. We have branched out from tacos, which is hard, because tacos are so good. But the quesadilla and torta are also solid options. I do love a carnitas torta when life gets hard and I need more than a little comfort. The asada quesadilla was also chockablock with chopped beef. Either of those could have been a meal for two! Speaking of large things, the horchata was also super large for just a couple of bucks. It was a little sweeter than I prefer, but a nice compliment to the food. Still, my daughter and I shared the drink, and we couldn't even finish by the end of the second day. And I tried! Next time I may try one of the agua frescas instead. I look forward to the day when I can return to the dining room. Until then, I'm happy to call from the parking lot, and eat in my car looking through the window panes into the once cramped seating area. Now it's just a few tables with some plexiglass set up to serve as a takeout counter. But I'll take what I can get. ¡La Torre!

Yelp
I'm very homesick for SoCal today & La Torre Taqueria's delicious tacos helped to ease that a little bit. It's a really small spot as other reviews have noted, but that only adds to the home vibes for me. During these pandemic restriction times, there is no sit down seating. Only three people are allowed in at a time and the cashier is separated by a bit of distance+plexiglass. We had the following tacos. It looks like the prices have gone up to $2.49 - $2.99 per taco but these aren't street tacos! 2-3 tacos will have you VERY satiated. They also come with two different salsas -- they pack a nice punch! *Carnitas: Tasty but this one was the most tame of them all for me. I would've loved a bit of crispiness on the carnitas but I'm not complaining. If you need a "safe" option, this is a good one! *Carne Asada: Tender, generous pieces of steak. This is also a great safe option! *Cueritos: I ordered this because other reviews said this was delicious. The flavors were so rich and deliciously unctuous BUT the texture got me. It was just a bit too much fatty gelatinousness for me. If it were crispy as other reviews have mentioned, I think this would be a knock out. I did get mine to-go so it's possible that it got soggy on the way home. I'm going to try this again when we can dine-in again! *Pastor: Nothing is going to beat Al Pastor for me (in SoCal, pork is grilled upright on a spit -- from the influence of Lebanese immigrants to Mexico!) BUT this was really dang good. Very nicely seasoned with pieces of pineapple and a wonderful balance of savory and just a touch of sweet. *Huevos/Chorizo: I LOVE breakfast tacos so I couldn't resist. These were like Texas breakfast tacos good. I'm going to sneak one as my guilty pleasure moving forward or...come for some brunch tacos since La Torre opens at 10am! I also ordered some chips & guac - good chips (entire takeout box!!), solid guac. No complaints. La Torre is a bit further from me, but I'm going to make the drive from now on because they're THAT good.

Yelp
Wow! What a great find! Super delicious food! I got the pastor tacos and rice and beans and will definitely be going back.

Andrew Y.

Yelp
My FAVORITE taco place in Ypsilanti/AA! Currently no dine-in. I got 3 tacos, and I felt I had just enough salsa for the three. They do charge $0.50 for extra salsa, for those that really like a lot of salsa on their tacos. The meats on these tacos are consistently full of flavor, juicy, and overall just amazing! I've been here many times over the years and have never been let down!

Christopher P.

Yelp
Tacos you can't miss.. The asada and carnitas come heavily piled on top of two corn tortillas with Cilantro and onion.... Two sauces to top over your taco... The combination of both sauces are amazing.. I go heavy on the sauce... A great authentic joint!

Bryan K.

Yelp
Hands-down the best breakfast in Ypsilanti. Portions are awesome can't seem to get away from the breakfast burrito always my favorite belly will be filled all day long.

Lydia F.

Yelp
Definitely the best taqueria in the A2/Ypsi area. The food is authentic and delicious. They have mexican drinks as well. Their weekend specials also change up and are muy delicioso. One couple that walked in was confused as to why they didnt have chips and salsa or enchiladas. Note: this is a legit taqueria, not a TexMex establishment. You will find delicious tacos, homemade salsas, and awesome tortas.

Yelp
From the outside: it looks like just another hole in the wall store. During the stay at home: we took our first trip for takeout here and it was AMAZING!!!! Best tacos I've had in a while: might I dare say one of the best I've had EVER ( and I've lived in nyc and la) Me and my fiancé got a few different ones to scope it out: Carne Asada Tacos, Chorizo Tacos, Fish Tacos, Pastor Taco, Pollo, Shrimp Tacos, Tripe Tacos And guacamole Everything was delicious but the tripe tacos were indeed the best hands down. Even my fiancé said it was (and he doesn't even like tripe! So that says a lot) The seafood tacos (fish and shrimp) were close seconds for us. The rest of the tacos were pretty good too but similar to other great taco places we have tried before. Do not skip on the guacamole! It is amazing!!! We also made a side of frozen margaritas for ourselves to top it all off! Not to shabby for our Mexican night experience at home :)

Bryan S.

Yelp
Passing through area as it's close to Eastern Michigan University (just finished going to Women's basketball game) hungry with family....the place was empty when we arrived and packed when we left. The tacos hit the spot! You need to get here if nearby!!! Lightning fast prepping of the food and the staff was super friendly! I was very pleased with our visit! That guacamole...I can't get over how fresh and amazing it tasted! When in the area again I will get in there! They fix hunger! Need one in Oklahoma! Respectfully, Bryan OKC

Yelp
This is a gem in Ypsi. Delicious and authentic. The pastor slaps but everything is worth trying.

Eliana S.

Yelp
Amazing Authentic Mexican food! I felt like I was in San Diego again. I got 5 different types of tacos, a torta, jamaica, and a tres leches cake and everything was delicious. I think my favorites were the suytida taco and the tres leches cake. Definitely check them out even if you just get one taco.

Daniel K.

Yelp
Amazing best vegetarian burrito EVER AND TACOS. So good incredible and I've lived in nyc Philly Baltimore. So good, great sauces. Sometimes hard to get them iver the phone but if you go in person I'm sure it'd take like 10-20 minutes to cook up the food

Rachel D.

Yelp
Authentic Mexican food is what you'll find here! In fact, while we sat in the small dining area, we were the only non-Hispanics in the place. Twelve men enjoyed food like home! The menu is very basic - it's written on a black board on the wall. Their specialty is tacos which are loaded with your choice of meat and fresh cilantro and onions (if you choose). I like the chicken and hubby likes the pork. We like to get three tacos each or a variety of three different items. Yesterday I tried a pepper and cheese stuffed tamale and I really enjoyed it. Hubby got a side of rice and it was better than most Mexican rice. This place is very small and crowed with tables. They've added more since our last time there. I think most of their business might be carry out, but we prefer eat there. Prices are very good for ala carte items. They have fountain drinks and bottled Mexican Coke - which hubby and I like to share! If you are in the area, give this place a try! I think you'll be pleased with both the food and service.

Yelp
Front desk: 4 Service: 5 Food: 4 Ambience: 3 Bathroom: 4. Price: 4. Bar: 4 We were seated quickly. Server did a great job of taking care our table of 4. It was taco Tuesday so price was right. 1.50 hard taco and soft for 2.00. I would recommend the taco Tuesday as something to consider.

Marnay A.

Yelp
My favorite place to get tacos! I come here almost every week. I love that they pack the tacos with lots of meat & flavor. Definitely the best place to get tacos in the Ypsi/Ann Arbor area.

Erik S.

Yelp
I don't use the term "hidden gem" arbitrarily, but La Torre is precisely that, very much deserving of a five star Yelp rating. Excellent Interior Mexican (in Texas we'd refer to this as Interior Mexican "street food) with tacos, homemade tamales, burritos, tortas, and combination plates. They also serve a few flavors of agua fresca - I highly recommend the hibiscus. Location and decor wise, it's a hole in the wall (next to a gas station and adult pleasures store), only upping the authentic vibe. After their recent remodel, seating accommodates more customers (maybe 32 at most) but it's still fairly small. Anyway: major credit to these folks. Good stuff.

Ashley Z.

Yelp
These are hands down the BEST authentic tacos in Ann Arbor -- even better than any tacos I had out in Vegas/Joshua Tree/Death Valley. I'd heard from others that Tmaz Taqueria or Chela's had the best authentic tacos in AA, but they both paled in comparison to La Torre. (Note: when I say "authentic," I mean the classic Mexican tacos with a meat, cilantro, and diced onions. These aren't those ~fusion~ tacos you can get from Isalita, TAQ, or Cantina -- although I will say Cantina has the best taco tuesday that is totally slept on) In an unassuming plaza next to a sex shop, La Torre is a no-frills restaurant with only a few tables for dine-in seating. You can order the tacos individually, which I love, because I love trying different meats! I got the shrimp, fish, and pastor. All of them were delicious, but the pastor was the clear winner! Yummm. Make sure you give your tacos a healthy squeeze of lime and lay on the red and green sauces, if you can handle spice. I'm not sure what the sauces are, but they are sooo good and definitely elevate the tacos. I brought my friend some chicken tacos for take-out, because she LOVES La Torre, and they were still tasty even when they were cold! Those sauces are a total game-changer. These tacos are definitely on the top of my list for best tacos EVER!

LyNae W.

Yelp
La Torre, thank you!! I came to this taco shop for the first time on Cinco De Mayo and was pleased to have spent the day eating authentic Mexican food! I ordered carne asada (beef), pollo (chicken) and shrimp tacos with a side of beans and rice! All three of them were so good! They came with onions and cilantro. The shrimp had cheese, jalapeño and pickle de gallo. Each taco was very flavorful. And I must say that on a high volume day, my order was perfect! I appreciate that they took the time to get me and my friends order right! I also couldn't believe that I only had to wait 30min on Cinco De Mayo. I am from California and unless you can make tacos on your own the expectation is that you're going to wait on a holiday when everyone is ordering tacos. I honestly found the customers to be very rude. It's a family owned operation trying to accommodate hundreds of people on a holiday. I will just say, if you see people giving bad reviews because of a "long wait", ignore it! I will say that they didn't have the best system for calling orders and there's was a lot of confusion. But I will say that with all of the self righteous people making comments, I never saw the TWO women working the phone, register, and order get an attitude or get upset! These are amazing people just trying to feed the masses! I will definitely return and continue to pour my taco Tuesday money into this establishment, they deserve it!

Yelp
This place rules. Always quick when I call in. Consistently super good, filling and cheap. Girl at the front counter rocks. Tacos, burritos, tamales. I eat it all. They actually grill their burritos.

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Best tacos in the Ann Arbor and Ypsi area. I have switched loyalties, which is generally hard for me to do. But this place has officially won over my heart and stomach. On a stressful day of work I crave my go-to foods, and La Torre is on the TOP of this list. I RARELY eat in the restaurant. Maybe because my body and heart is generally in a rough place when I crave La Torre so I almost always order take out and eat it in the comfort of my own home. And boy. Does this food cure a bad day! Itll turn me from being a grumpy angry sourpuss to a peaceful happy delighted human being again , lol. Fried pork skin tacos are at the top of the list and always show up in my order. Tongue, tripe, shrimp, fish, pork, steak are great alternates to complete my order. For extra hungry or hot days, I'll order the chips and guacamole or the horchata, but I've had better of both at other local places. Still, its a nice filler. This place is kind of slow. I will wait with the patience and great expectation. Order ahead on the phone to cut the wait time. DONT be disuaded by the lovers lane next door. Trust me. The tacos are worth it. I love bringing friends here to get tacos because the food speaks for itself.

Pranav P.

Yelp
Met my old Michigan friends for a TAAACOOO TUESDAYYYYYY, I ordered the Chicken tamale, and the chicken, fish, and shrimp tacos, the chicken tamale and taco were pretty meh but the fish tacos were outstanding Food:3.5/5

Kristina G.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING! -- I learned about this restaurant from a man who I drove on an Uber ride. He told me it was the most authentic in the area; He was definitely right! The tacos were phenomenal, loaded up with fresh toppings such as cilantro, onions, tomatoes, etc. Their homemade hot sauce + verde sauce are delicious -- perfect addition to the meal. Also, GET THE GUAC. Not lying when I say this is some of the best guacamole I've ever tasted. They have rotating soup specials, every week. So make sure to ask about those! All in all a great experience & definitely going to be my new go-to Mexican spot in the area.

Daniel W.

Yelp
They say that the three human vices are sex, alcohol and drugs. Located between a sex toy shop and a liquor store, La Torre offers tacos of addictive qualities. The tacos are on double corn tortillas, and comes with meat, chopped onions and cilantro. Nothing else. I think it says a lot about a taco to have nothing but onions and cilantro and still be good. The protein is very well prepared. Buche (stomach): soft, chewy tender flavorful. Pastor (pork): well made, juicy and marianed well Tripa: probably the best, CRUNCand has a creamy taste to it Tongue: Not a big fan, thick cut, nothing too special about it Beef: A bit disappointing, not very flavorful. I had tried Dos Hermonos the day before, And I have to say the beef at La Torre is something they can improve on. Pork Skin: Really good! More flavor than the stomach, fat adds a nice taste and texture to it. Its a new favorite of mine. The green and orange sauces (provided) add to the tacos, and does a good job cutting through the flavor. Tldr; Damn good, get tripe, pork skin and pastor. Beef tacos not as good has Dos Hermanos. But I like La Torre better overall. I go here a lot. Best tacos in MI

Darrell K.

Yelp
This place looks like your typical hole in the wall spot. This is not really a negative as some regular mom and pop places have some of the best food. This place did not disappoint. It is a small place with the menu written on boards with chalk. The food tasted fresh and authentic. The waitress was attentive and answered any questions. I will plan on visiting again.

Jorge Alberto P.

Yelp
Best Taco Place in town don't try to find anymore! We were on a weekend trip to Ann arbor and by a suggestion from a friend we went to this place. Don't get fooled by the outside appareance. It's a small business but they have so much potential. Although they serve the normal taco options huevo con chorizo and carnitas are the best. Ask for any option in flour tortilla it will taste better, sauces are tasty as well and go during the weekend and ask for pozole it's delicious. The only thing I wish they would have more options for tacos!

Jenny K.

Yelp
I stepped away from my tried and true Chela's for another authentic taco joint close to home. You seriously can't get better tasting or cheaper tacos anywhere. Come at me. 4 stars for the piled high hand-helds, the variety of taco fillings from your basic beef to daring tongue, the quick turnaround (even though the place was slammed.) Mexican Cokes, salsas on the table and the sweet gal manning the till. I ordered the Chorizo, Carnitas and Fish. 1 star knocked off for the dirty tables piled high with empty plates, no barbacoa, and my expectation that they would have pazole as a weekend special (my fault), and cold pork. It looks as if they've put in a wall where once there used to be open counter space? Will definitely be back for that barbacoa and the tamales!

Ebenezer's Anni L.

Yelp
La Torre is not a PF Chang's of Mexican food, but the food here is fresh, inexpensive, and authentic. They cook to order here so there's nothing drying out under a heat lamp. It's in a pretty sketchy strip mall but do not let the appearance scare you. My friends think I am ultra-paranoid in general, but I've never felt the urge to go in with my assault guns or carry my Glock 19 4th Gen with extended magazines. I feel perfectly safe eating here. [Now, drive-bys are another story...] ;-) Parking is very convenient. Just pull up and walk in. Ordering from the overhead handwritten menu is easy. I often enjoy the deluxe steak tacos but all other Mexican dishes at all price points are available. Feel free to experiment! Do not forget to tell them if you want tomatoes, cheese, onions, etc. Else you'll get just a skin and protein! (That's a skinny taco!) Serveral types of hot sauces are available. Choose your poison! The staff here (most notably the owner) are consistently helpful. They are happy to give advice which is usually spot-on. I eat here almost as much as my favorite Mi Zarape in Saline and they have never shafted me on my order. Seating on-premises is limited; maybe three or four tables with epically craptastic chairs that will guarantee a visit to your chiropractor... Even those folding chairs from Sam's Club would be a huge upgrade! :-) Enjoy and worth trying a new Mexican spot! Recommend! -EBS

Nicole H.

Yelp
When people want real Mexican food they tend to head downtown Detroit. However "Mexican Town" has nothing on this hidden wonder. Located in a strip mall between a liquor store and Lovers Lane is this small, family run place that is the most authentic food around. Doing carry out only right now however I will get tacos and eat in my car to enjoy!! I will say I am not a fan of their beans on the side however that is the only thing I can say negative!! This is my favorite place in Michigan.

Michelle T.

Yelp
Cheap tacos and friendly service? Say no more. La Torre is your perfect hole-in-the-wall establishment that serves up quick and authentic Mexican food. The interior only has about 4 tables - it's super small and I would not recommend this place for large parties. However, I do recommend stopping by here for a quick bite or for grabbing something to-go. The tacos are delicious. La Torre has corn tortillas which compliments the meats they serve very well. I find that sometimes flour tortillas can really overpower the filling so I much prefer enjoying corn tortillas, which also help with the taqueria's authentic taste. I do not have a favorite taco yet; I'm still in the process of trying all of them. They all have been amazing so far. If you really don't know what to get, the chef is very helpful and the cashier speaks English well. This taqueria is definitely in my top 3 to-go places for tacos in North America, and I've been everywhere from San Jose to Miami to Cancun. You wouldn't think of Michigan as a great Mexican food hot spot but La Torre will prove you wrong!

Ashlee H.

Yelp
I've been going to this place for years and just decided to drop by since I'm in the area. They only allow a limited amount of ppl in do to covid, they wear masks and there is no inside dining. The food is still amazing and the service is still great, even during covid. Things to keep in mind call your order ahead, if you order when you get there wait in your care, they will give an eta on when your food will be ready, also you need a 7$ min to use your debt or credit card.

Samantha C.

Yelp
How much do I love this place? Last week I had surgery and chose La Torre Asada tacos for what could have been my "last meal". Thankfully, I survived the surgery and there will be plenty more tacos in my future. I've been coming here for every "cheat day" for the past year or so and every time, it has been great. The only thing I would change are their chips (they are corn and hard and not homemade), but I don't come here for the chips, I come for the tacos. I ususaostick with asada, but I've also had the al pastor and those are great, too!

Sarah H.

Yelp
Always great. I buy the verde in large quantities- the best salsa you will ever have and always an impressive snack to have for special guests!

William W.

Yelp
Very authentic taco spot in Ypsilanti. Old school menu items ranging from basic beef and chicken to things like pig skin and tongue meat (and everything in between). I also love the tamales! If you get pork, chicken or jalapeno and cheese they are all delish. I typically order a campechanos taco (asada and chorizo) a chicken taco and at least 1 tamale. Then I drizzle both the orange and green housemade hot sauces on everything and dig in. Most tacos are less than $2 and the tamales are only $1.50. Hard to find a better deal anywhere for such delicious and traditional food!

Christopher F.

Yelp
With all that is going on in the world just wanted to give a shout out to one of my favorite restaurants in town. They recently changed from primarily take out to adding a few tables and chairs for sit down service. Feel so bad they have to deal with all these changes. In the midst of all these changes they are still making really good Mexican food for take out. I have been coming here for years for a couple of times a month and their quality and consistency are always top notch.

Michael R.

Yelp
Awesome needs a larger full size restaurant. Food so fresh and homemade delicious. If you want real authentic tacos and other Mexican foods this is where you go enough of those other places this is it

Karen T.

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place. Based on the reviews I thought I would be getting a 5-star taco. That was not the case. I ordered a fish taco which was very good. The carne asada taco however was dry and flavorless. The chips and salsa also left much to be desired. I will say the service was very good. The service and the fish taco are the only reason I am giving this business 3 stars.

Michelle C.

Yelp
This place is phenomenal! You can rarely find an authentic Mexican restaurants in the area! But this place is definitely the one! The prices for their food are reasonable. The restaurant is pretty small and they have limited seating. They have a huge chalk board menu listing the different meat tacos you can get in Spanish. With the English translations next to them which makes it helpful to make your selection. They sell Mexican coke! Which I love, every time I eat out at a Mexican restaurant I have to order one of these. I will definitely be returning here.

Jodi Y.

Yelp
Surprised I didn't give them 5 stars the first time I reviewed La Torre. This place is the best!!

Michael B.

Yelp
We enjoy going to the La Torre Taqueria once a while. The food is good - plentiful and tasty. Pricing is very reasonable. It is a great place to get in and out quickly while having a decent and tasty meal. Ambiance is unique and not your "Michelin" style restaurant, but that's not what we are seeking when when we are going there. Definitely a solid place with solid food.

Abben H.

Yelp
La Torre is an amazing taco place! Not only is it super affordable with $2 tacos -- they are also generously packed with meat and really fresh! I got the asada, pork skin, and pastor tacos. All of the meat is very juicy/tender and they also have a green or red sauce to put over the tacos. My only wish was that they offered some tomatos / sour cream on the side, but it was so good I didn't bother asking. Note that you need to go up to the cashier to order and pay instead of someone coming to take your order.

Angela H.

Yelp
I found this place on a list of great places to eat in Ypsilanti, the reputation was well-earned!! They have a great selection of tacos and the amount of meat they give you in one of those is ridiculous!! Practically have to eat them with a knife and fork. They also have done an update to their restaurant area and it is really nice!!! Really brings up the level of the dine-in experience.

Johnny G.

Yelp
Awesome place with awesome food. I have never had issues with La Torre and the staff is great. The turnaround time for the food is fast and you can tell they make it fresh. Always a go to place for me and I recommend anyone who loves authentic Mexican food!

N P.

Yelp
One my favorite places. Coming from California it's close. Love the beautiful chica that services me. Gracias
