Located inside Patio Batel on the 4th floor. The atmosphere is very high end and the food is good. I originally would have given them 4 stars but I'll explain why they get 3 in a little bit. I started off with the lobster ravioli for my appetizer. This was extremely delicious. I just wish that they had given me more than 3 pieces. The sauce was phenomenal. For my main course, I ordered the boar with a puree of manioca. The dish looked unbelievable when they brought it out. The only problem was that 80% of the boar was fat. There was a really small amount of meat and to get to that, I had to go through layers and layers of fat. I tried a little bit of the meat that I was able to get to and it was very good. The only problem was that I didn't want to fill up on 80% pure fat. I told the waiter to take the dish away and give me a menu again. I tried to explain to him why I didn't want to eat a dish that contained 80% fat and he didn't really understand why. I told him to remove the dish and to give me a new menu.
While looking over the new menu, I contemplated just paying for the bill, leaving and going to another restaurant. The manager eventually came over to me and asked me what was wrong with my dish. I told him that the piece of boar that was given to me contained very little edible food and that I'm not going to eat 80% fat. He agreed and acknowledged that there was a lot of fat on there. He then apologized and suggested another plate containing beef and risotto and said it would be ready in 6 minutes. I said ok. He didn't ask me how I liked to cook the meat and just walked away.
When the dish arrived, it looked really good. Unfortunately, the risotto was a little bit too watery and the beef was cooked medium. I prefer it medium rare. The sauce for the beef was really good though.
For my dessert, I ordered the creme brulee. They used a filling of lemon instead of the standard vanilla. I think I prefer the vanilla creme brulee better.
When I asked for the bill, I realized that the charged me for the beef dish instead of the boar. The beef dish cost more than the boar dish. I think they should have charged me for the boar dish because they made the mistake of trying to feed me a plate that had more than 80% fat. Or they should have given me a discount.
Considering how good of a chef that is at La Varenne, he should never have made a mistake of serving someone a piece of meat that was 80% fat. This is something unacceptable and would have never occurred at other top restaurants.
