The 15 Best Spanish Restaurants In Miami - Miami - The Infatuation

"When your dad and his retired friends disappear every Friday around lunch, they’re probably at La Vasca. The Spanish spot next to Versailles doubles as a tiny market and even smaller restaurant, where tapas are shared in a cramped room flanked by TVs playing soccer and more wine than you could drink in 100 lifetimes. You’ll have to walk past the deli counter full of cheese and round the corner by a shelf of tinned mussels to find a table (and there aren’t many). So call to make reservations because eight out of the 10 are usually reserved by regulars, families eating tortillas, and groups of older gentlemen sharing a whole cochinillo you have to pre-order a day in advance." - virginia otazo, mariana trabanino, ryan pfeffer

Where To Take Your Grandparents For Dinner

"Judging by the crowd here, your grandparents probably already know about this vetted viejito spot. The Spanish deli next to Versailles is where your abuelo and his retired friends disappear every Friday around lunch only to return smelling like fried chorizo. It doubles as a tiny market and even smaller restaurant, where tortilla españolas are shared in a cramped room surrounded by more wine than you could drink in 100 lifetimes. Call ahead for reservations—eight out of the 10 tables are usually reserved by big groups sharing a whole cochinillo you need to pre-order a day in advance. Your abuelos are right to keep La Vasca Deli under wraps. Maybe they’ll let you join them if you’re cool enough (and can keep a secret)." - mariana trabanino, virginia otazo

La Vasca Deli Review - Little Havana - Miami - The Infatuation

"When your dad and his retired friends disappear every Friday around lunch, they’re probably at La Vasca. The Spanish spot next to Versailles doubles as a tiny market and even smaller restaurant, where tapas are shared in a cramped room flanked by TVs playing soccer and more wine than you could drink in a 100 lifetimes. You’ll have to walk past the deli counter full of cheese and round the corner by a shelf of tinned mussels to find a table (and there aren’t very many). So call to make reservations because eight out of the 10 are usually reserved by regulars, families eating tortillas, and groups of older gentlemen sharing a whole cochinillo you have to pre-ordered a day in advance. La Vasca feels like a neighborhood restaurant you’d find in Spain. The food is simple, but delicious—like their fried chorizo bocadillo or pulpo a la gallega. There’s also a rotating list of entrees that range from roasted pork butt to lamb chops, but we love the seared bacalao that’s served with a garlicky herb oil and patatas panaderas. Your dad and his friends are right to keep this place a secret. But you should definitely crash one of his viejito lunches and treat him and his friends to a bottle of Priorat wine, great tapas, and crema catalana. Food Rundown photo credit: CLEVELAND JENNINGS / @EATTHECANVASLLC Chorizo Bocadillo The bread is crispy, airy, and soaks up all the juices from the smoky fried chorizo. That’s it—no sauce, no cheese. It doesn’t need it. photo credit: CLEVELAND JENNINGS / @EATTHECANVASLLC Tortilla Española You can order an entire tortilla days in advance for parties and family dinners. But you can get two slices at the restaurant for $11. It’s as thick as a brick, not too wet (or dry), and comes with two dollops of garlic aioli. photo credit: CLEVELAND JENNINGS / @EATTHECANVASLLC Pulpo A La Gallega Octopus is on every Mediterranean menu from Homestead to Sunny Isles, but you’ll rarely see boiled octopus. La Vasca’s is simply boiled until the color turns a deep purple. If you’re still not sold on the delights of boiled cephalopod, you can also get it grilled. photo credit: CLEVELAND JENNINGS / @EATTHECANVASLLC Tarta De Santiago We’d happily join an old pilgrimage and walk a 30-day journey to eat this almond cake. Famous for being a special treat at the end of El Camino De Santiago De Compostela, the one at La Vasca is luckily much closer, moist, and served with a scoop of fluffy almond ice cream on top." - Virginia Otazo

We have a party of 15 and La Vasca treated us like family. Every dish was fantastic. Even with our large party the servers got our food out quickly and were attentive. The pork was so tender he could cut the pig with a plate. The pulpo was tender and cooked to perfection. The sea bass was the best I have ever had. You will love the food here.

Google
This by far is Miami's best Spanish tapas restaurant and deli. Recommend that you reserve your table ahead of time. Will definitely come back.

Google
I had a fantastic lunch with my father at this Spanish restaurant! The pulpo a la gallega was perfectly tender, with just the right touch of paprika and olive oil, making it a true standout dish. The costillas de ternera was equally impressively juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and the service was friendly and attentive. A great spot for authentic Spanish flavors. We’ll definitely be back!

We got invited by our friends to this hidden jewel ! Wow! Amazing Food; appetizers :camarones al ajillo , croquetas, garbanzos fritos . Main dish : cochinillo ( ordered ahead by our friends) , desert ; tarta de quedo y tarta de santiago . Everything from the wine, the food , service and company was phenomenal! Highly recommend this place

Google
I frequent this place because you always get a fantastic meal at a very fair price.  Make sure you ask what the specials are because the really good stuff is not on the menu, but rather based on what is fresh and available.   This last time we had a lamb dish that was out of this world, and my wife had bacalao which was delicious. Have a little patience when you come here. Matias (the owner) is attentive and very welcoming, but they are a small operation and sometimes can take a little time. It is worth the wait. They do not try to rush you out the door but rather allow you to really enjoy yourself. This has become my favorite Sunday lunch spot. Some wine, some anchovies and the specials of the day make for a wonderful afternoon of eating and drinking.  Keep up the great work Matias. I do not understand how anyone can think this place is expensive, particularly compared to other Miami restaurant prices.  You can get a good bottle of wine for $30 and none of the (rather large) entrees exceed that amount. This place is a great value.

Google
Well, First of All the Place is Extremely Small & the Welcoming Committee, the Owner although Well Mannered, knows if not Whatsoever What Hospitality Means. As I entered to See the Restaurant, the Owner made little Effort in engaging with Me as to Welcoming Me or even asking if I was there for Dinner. The first Word was I am having a Vanidades Dinner & I am Full. There were 2 Tables in the Front with Two Gentlemen just Conversing. The Owner made NO EFFORT in offering a Place to sit. I even hinted that I was Hungry & he didn’t even bother to Accomodate Me. It was as if, I was invisible. 🫥 I even said that I had been born & reared in the area & had never been there. I had heard about it, but only through Word of Mouth. I even asked for a Menu He suggested I scan the Business Card. There was Room for 1 or 2 more, but He, the Owner just didn’t go beyond. This is Terrible Business & I don’t think that I’ll return. Food for Thought!

La Vasca is a cozy gem with amazing tapas, great wines, and a warm vibe. Smiling owner Matias always greets you warmly and surprises with off-menu specials. Small spot, big flavor—can’t wait to return!

Google
Great food, portions are generous, good wine selection and prices are very reasonable. worth to become a regular there! This is the kind of small business you gotta support. Thank you Matias.

Yelp
¡Absolutamente fenomenal!

Yelp
This is a hidden culinary jewel ! Our friends invited us and ordered the cochinillo in advance- omg ! Amazing. We had croquetas , camarones al ajillo & garbanzos fritos as appetizers- a great . The octopus looked amazing as well . The place holds about 50 people , which makes it super quaint and cozy . Highly recommended this place , just sad my father didn't get to try this place, since he loved Spanish food .

Yelp
Good was delicious. We had the Fabada, ham and croquettes, fried garbanzos, frituras de bacalao, jarrete of lamb with potatoes and a crema de Catalan. All delicious. The house wine was also great. This is a place to come with time to enjoy the food and who you are with. We definitely recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
This gem in Calle Ocho was completely unexpected. A stop to peek into the deli and wines was followed by a return visit to enjoy the restaurant. And oh! what a find. We ordered the gammas al ajillo, habitats baby con jamon serrano and the poncho de tortilla. Our delicious Albariño was chilled perfectly. Everything we ate was superb and a great value for the money! We may return to Miami just to revisit this hidden gem!

Yelp
La Vasca deli was very good. It is important to note that La Vasca is under new ownership as most reviews I read prior to coming here were about how rude the previous owner was. Well, I'm glad to report that this is no longer the case and that the new owners are extremely nice and pleasant. The food itself was also surprisingly good. Fresh ham, chorizo, really good manchego cheese, etc... all was very fresh and very good quality of products. To accompany our meal was very good bread and wine... important players in Spanish cuisine. The selection of wines is very good. Definitely a little bit for everyone's taste and budget. I'll be looking forward to coming back here soon and trying different things. A gem in an unexpected shopping center. My best wishes to the new owners.

Yelp
This place is extremely small and our party of 4 was a bit uncomfortable. The food was just ok and did not taste like authentic Spanish food. They don't have a wine list so we had to ask our server for suggestions and prices. The menu does not include full entrees or prices. Will definitely not be going back.

Yelp
Hidden gem , authentic Spanish restaurant , EXELENT quality food , great selection of wine , 2 servers , ambiance is quiet and usually is the usual clientele , will return for sure.

Jimmy C.

Yelp
Small and quaint but makes up in food and service. Great wine selection and everything is reasonably priced considering the high quality you are getting. Ordered the Cochinillo in advance and it was cooked to perfection , carved and plated at table!!!
google avatar

Joe B.

Yelp
Very good very authentic Spanish food and the wine selection is out of this hemisphere!!!!
google avatar

Rafael S.

Yelp
Was referred by Kevin (el Español from La Diosa Taqueria across the street). What a great find for Ibérico, pan Gallego and other Spanish delicacies. Gracias Doña Lydia (La Vasca de Bilbao) and Matias. A very Spanish experience.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Spanish food and have tried a lot!!! Absolutely love this place! mom and son owned, they serve, cook, manage. The family style restaurant with only two big picnic tables that is so easy to find in europe and very difficult to find in Miami. Their paella is one of the best I've eaten in the city (only Saturdays thought) they have a small wine cava with great prices and a fine selection. There is a mini market too, so get ready to spend some dollars. Impossible to leave without buying something, their canned seafood is great, ink calamari, olive oil octopus, sardines. Olé 10 puntos!

MariCarmen P.

Yelp
Love this place! The food is soooo good. Love to try different things everytime we go. Authentic Spanish food

Yelp
La Vasca Deli is an authentic Spanish place. Spanish from Spain, not this craziness about confusing Spanish with every other Latin, Central or South American cultures. La vasca (the Basque lady) is not the friendliest person but her food is exquisite.
google avatar

Lee K.

Yelp
I guess that the food can be authentic Spanish but I did not have time to see because the owner / woman was extremely rude with us and we left.

Raisa S.

Yelp
I wanted to like the restaurant just because it's a small family own business and it was recommended by a Spaniard that lives in Miami. I didn't get to the experience the food because they were closing earlier than advertised. (The owner mentioned the hours online we're not set by her and they were wrong) I had called earlier during the day with some questions about the menu and told her I was going to pass by to order at 6:00 PM. She failed to tell me they close at 6:00. She did not even apologize. Her son seemed to be nice and was attending the only table I saw at the "deli". This is more like a deli not a restaurant. And YES the lady is rude. She can't be nice because she doesn't know how to. Sad because they have a nice little place that I am sure provides very good food but customers don't feel welcome.

Yelp
I so wanted to love this place. My family and I love traveling in Spain, adore its food, and try to recreate those experiences here in Miami. However, this place has the promise of authenticity but none of the hospitality. When the owner (I assume) came by to take our order, we told her it was our first time there and if she had any recommendations. I couldn't believe her extremely rude and brusque response: "I don't recommend anything because then of you don't like it you'll return it" (In Spanish, of course). I initially inferred she's the ill-humored grandmother type who's a little rude at first but turns out to be a sweetheart. Not the case. She was rude from beginning to end. We had ordered a sandwich to share, an appetizer, two glasses of wine, and two orders of garbanzos. When she brought the garbanzos, we noticed they had morcilla, which we don't eat for religious reasons. We nicely explained, but she just huffed and puffed and never looked after us again. We were never even offered a glass of water. When we got the check, she had charged us for two sandwiches, although we had ordered one to share. We had obviously been brought one sandwich (if that was two, then the sandwiches here are the tiniest I have ever seen for $10.70), but she said it was two, and we chose not to argue with her. We paid and left, convinced we will never return. I would never, ever, ever, recommend this place to anyone. There are many other deserving restaurants in Miami to support.

Barry W.

Yelp
What a gem. They actually bake Spanish Baguettes from dough flownn in from Spain. Pan Rustica and Barra Cantabrice. Who does that? And they are delicious. And the food on the small restaurant side is the real deal. So glad I found this place. This is Espana! Not Mexican, Cuban, Colombian or any other related ethnicity.

Nicki P.

Yelp
I love this place. Great food, nice service, products from Spain, cozy feeling... It is a small gem... One of those places the locals know and go to... Great family owned restaurant!

Sam G.

Yelp
Great family restaurant. Menu is small but it's great tasting home made Spanish food, good wine selection and great service. Highly recommended.

Yelp
If you want to try the best food from Spain you definetly have to come to La Vasca. The customer service is great! and there is a large selection of imported wines and food products. Highly recommended!

Enrique V.

Yelp
Excellent service and very helpful. Real spanish products.serano ham out of this world. Great machego sold by the pound

Antonio L.

Yelp
Where to begin with how much I LOVE this place. First, the food and items they sell are 100% legit Spanish items. Whenever I get homesick, La Vasca is the first place I think of going. The jamón Serrano is delicious, they have my favorite beer from Spain not to mention the cheeses, the wines and all manner of turón, sweets and beans you name it. The owners are great, warm and friendly. They are a bit pricey but for the quality you get its well worth the money and I drive all the way down from Broward to shop here. I highly recommend La Vasca
