Best Mexican Restaurants in Boston, According to Eater Editors | Eater Boston

"Hefty tortas stuffed with savory items like Mexican sausage and melted cheese on yeasty rolls fly out of the kitchen at Veracruz-born Alex Barrientos’s speedy sendup to Mexican street food. Meanwhile, fish tacos, a favorite, are laced with chipotle mayo, bright salsa verde, and crunchy cabbage and radishes. Check out the spot’s other locations in Belmont and Beverly, too." - Erika Adams

Good food, great price, made with passion what more could you want!! Got carry out burrito and quesadilla, both were the perfect amount of food. Will be choosing La Victoria over chipotle every day of the week.

Google
This is a pretty good Mexican restaurant located in Arlington, Massachusetts. One thing that surprised me was the early closing hours on a Friday. They close at 8:15 PM! To me, this is very peculiar. Make sure you get there early as in many cases, they will even close earlier than 815. Overall, I would recommend this venue, but you must also be very careful when ordering to make sure that the employees understand what you are requesting as they will often give a “”standard burrito or taco.

I recently placed a catering order for 25 hungry teenagers. Alex was very helpful, informative and responsive. The catering menu provided a wide variety of options. The food was excellent and ready for me at the designated pickup time.

Google
This is my favorite Taqueria, hands down. I found this stop years ago when I worked in Arlington. I’m no longer close but I drive way out of my way about once a month when It’s time to feed my taco cravings. Everything I’ve tried on the menu has been delicious, authentic and packed with flavor. I don’t however steer far away from my two favorite orders. The Barbacoa tacos are off the charts! All the tacos are great but the Barbacoa is something special. Packed and dripping with flavor. If your lean game isn’t up to par then don’t wear a white shirt or everyone will know you ate well that day. Item #2 I travel so far for is the steak and cheese torta. Wow! Carne asada wrapped in cheese grilled on the flat top amplifies the flavor and texture game, with all the other ingredients added in your in for a treat! All the tortas are delish but the steak and cheese is special. As American as it sounds I promise that you’ve had no steak and cheese like this! Best tortas around! Always nice service, always quick to make my order. I never have to feed the parking meter because they’re so fast all need is to use the free fifteen minutes parking offers. Busy hours can be difficult to find street parking but there’s a big pay to park lot behind the restaurant. The possibility of difficult parking is well worth it! Not a lot of seating in this small, charming shop but they do offer some outside seating and only one time I’ve had to take my food to go. I met the owner years ago and he was really nice and seems like he found a good recipe for success. I believe he has a couple other locations and I imagine they’re just as impressive as the Arlington location. Don’t wait for Tuesday, go get your tacos now!!!

Google
So this was a so-so place honestly don’t really do it for me. The prices are great but with that sometimes things don’t turn out as good. The burrito bowl with barbacoa was good, the rice portion was very little ran out of rice before everything else & the beans were little bit hard. The steak & cheese torta was decent had more cheese than meat & was smaller than I thought. Service was ok not welcoming but at least they got my order right. Overall could be better

Google
This place has horrendous service. If they mess up your order and you call to ask for a manager they’re trained to hang up right away. Had to call 4 times before someone who wasn’t scared decided to try and talk but she didn’t know English and just kept saying no manager. Their portions are tiny too, they give you half scoops for all of the fillings and keep raising their pricing. There are much better alternatives in the area now, don’t go here.

Google
Ordered fish tacos and chips and salsa. Priced very well for the portion. Two big pieces of fish, asked for no cilantro or spicy mayo so they added extra of their delicious salsa verde. Chips were homemade and well drained so very little grease. It’s directly across the street from the Regents Theater. Small fast food place with about a dozen tables for two. They have metal stools and wooden benches so half an hour was all my rear end could take but I could see why pickups and delivery drivers were plentiful. Perfect for what we needed a quick bite when we had very little time before the show. Street parking but also inexpensive large municipal lot around the corner where we parked for the theater.

Google
With rising food prices and declining quality at big chains like Chipotle, La Victoria in Arlington stands out. This family-owned gem offers low-cost Mexican bowls packed with the flavor that Chipotle has lost. For delicious, budget-friendly Mexican food, La Victoria is a must-visit. Join me in tracking down the best bites!

Yelp
Great burritos & reasonable prices. The other location in Beverly is good as well. Definitely worth a stop!

Tiana A.

Yelp
wonderful place to eat, our food came out so fast and we ate everything so quickly. food was super delicious and will definitely be returning to try more things!

Yelp
Great place for a quick and cheap bite!! Nowadays, everything costs so much. They have such big portions. All things are a la crate but the burritos are where it's at! I got the pork chicharron burrito! Delicious!! They were sweet to serve me even when they were closing after my late shift at work! Very authentic place!
google avatar

Miranda G.

Yelp
Super quick service and delicious tacos! probably the best tacos i've had in MA so far (maybe even comparable to CA tacos) the tacos are a bit on the expensive side, but definitely more filling and worth it! There's also seating outside, which is nice on the warm days

Shelby B.

Yelp
Had high hopes for this spot based on reviews - plus I love a good burrito. The meat in the burritos was very dry and unfortunately the other fixings couldn't help save the day. Both my husband and I only ate half our burritos before we tapped out.

Yelp
Amazing spot! I happened to be in the area and what a great stop this was! Came in for two tacos but was craving more! The pricing is good and the meals certainly live up to good standard! Would definitely be back if I'm in the area!

Yelp
Get a burrito here and you will not be disappointed! Quick easy takeout spot which friendly staff and solid food

dr g.

Yelp
Best tacos i have ever had! My daughter goes to AC and it's right next door. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I love a good burrito and this place does not disappoint. Admittedly the consistency has been off from time to time and it's always been with the rice. I probably order a burrito once a week and sometimes you can just tell the rice is either: -Yesterdays rice -The last bit of rice from the bottom of the warming tray that's been getting hard still being cooked But not all the time. I tried different protein fillers for my burrito and they all are flavorful. The burritos aren't skinny either, good amounts of everything inside. I've only tried the burritos here but I imagine the quality runs across all the menu items. The price is also worth it too. As always never take my word and give it a try yourself.

Yelp
THIS IS FOR THE BELMONT LOCATION NOT ARLINGTON!! There food is excellent!! I was skeptical at first only because I ordered from Arlington (Medford St) and found a bone in my quesadilla along with other veiny gross things!! BELMONT WAS GREAT ALL WHITE CHICKEN BONELESS BREAST EXTREMELY TASTY!! I was under the impression that your supposed to use all white chicken breast not dark. Arlington obviously likes to cut corners by using the cheap dark meat, thighs or whatever it is!!!

Yelp
La Victoria has long been a go-to option if I need a quick and affordable lunch option, but this past week I got catering platters from them for the Friday night dinner for our out of town guests for my son's bar mtizvah. Everything was delicious, and it was easy for people to mix and match what they wanted to eat -- a real benefit for feeding a crowd. Alex at La Victoria made the ordering process easy! We will definitely do this again!!
google avatar

Matt D.

Yelp
My go to's are the choriqueso torta and the carnitas tacos. The torta can get a little messy but it's because of the chorizo. Flavors are there. Best Mexican place I've been to around medford/Arlington area.
google avatar

Dil S.

Yelp
Back to 4 stars! Steak and cheese torta was fantastic. Quesadilla was a bit soggy and small, but tasty. Plato Mexicano was solid. Will stick to tortas and burritos from here .
google avatar

Nathan P.

Yelp
Not as good as the Belmont location. They frequently forget to include items in your burrito, they're skimpier, and they take longer to make your burrito.
google avatar

James P.

Yelp
Very authentic! Better priced than Chipotle too. Burrito was very good and filing. I chose the steak and it was real steak - well seasoned and packed to the max! I skipped out on guac, sour cream, and cheese to cut down on calories but could have added those as well. But even without the extras this burrito is definitely worth a try! Also tried some carnitas tacos. They were absolutely delicious and presented very well. Will try torta next time as it looks delicious. Add La Victoria to your take out rotation immediately!

Yelp
Really great authentic food and selection Reasonable pricing Excellent downtown location Limited indoor dining but reasonable outdoor picnic table seating Good friendly service Nice side street to Mass Ave Eclectic neighborhood check out acts at Regent Fish tacos and horchata!

Christopher C.

Yelp
I had the best tasting Al Pastor taco of my lifetime here. The chicken taco was fine, and I also ordered a chicken quesadilla which was packed with chicken. The shape of their quesadilla was rectangular, and not pizza pie shaped. It was good in any case. The staff was more than accommodating as I ordered close to closing. The shop is in downtown Belmont, and clean. I will be back.
google avatar

George A.

Yelp
Not nearly as good as Waltham Taqueria El Amigo mexican. Haven't been back since week they opened.

Jane T.

Yelp
GET THE TORTA!!!!!! I was blown away.....insanely good. Humble and friendly service...I ordered in person and they prepped 3 tacos, chips and guac, and a Torta in I kid you not less than 2 minutes. Love supporting this spot

Jeffrey L.

Yelp
La Victoria is a hidden gem in Arlington. The food is absolutely amazing with generous portions and wonderful flavors. Seating is sparse and often full, so La Victoria has become our to-go spot of choice. Last time we had fish tacos and a chicken burrito and both were amazing. I'll submit a photo next time

Yelp
i am a big fan of the la vic in beverly and the food is consistent at this location as well. delicious taste and flavor and price is good.

Francisco M.

Yelp
Very nice and Mexican flavor tacos. Liked a lot the experience and service. The ambience is not very good since there are a couple of tables and everyone just gets it to go.
google avatar

Peter C.

Yelp
Average, but not great. Not really even close to the best tacos I've had in Massachusetts. While it's average, nothing really stood out. Tacos were good, but lacked any kind of depth. I expected more given the high rating. The hot sauce was as thick as ketchup. Burrito was very bland. I just piled hot sauce on it to taste anything. The place is small and got crowded quickly. I recommend going in off hours. Also, many parents apparently thought this would be a great place for toddlers. I'm confused by this. On the plus side, Mexican coke. OVERALL: I think I've had better tacos at a few chain places. But I've certainly had better at the other authentic places in Massachusetts. I probably won't return, since I felt it was average.

Yelp
This place is BOMB. I have been here a few times now for the marinated vegetable burrito. It gets better every time, although that's probably because of the food equivalent of "familiarity breeds attraction." All of the ingredients taste fresh and the burritos are always packed and well-hugged by the tortilla. The staff is efficient and friendly. Two things I would love to see though: 1) Brown rice. The seasoning on the rice is great, and it would be great if they could make a brown rice option. Similarly, whole wheat tortillas would be great. 2) The seasoning on the fish tacos I don't like so much. If there was a Baja style fish tacos option (like cole slaw, pico, beer-battered or grilled fish with other seasonings) I would be here even more often.

Victoria C.

Yelp
How can I not give this place that shares my name a 5 star rating? I ordered takeout right as they opened on a Saturday morning. The order was ready well before the estimated time and it was a super easy pickup process. I ordered the Victoria Torta, which was amazing. I was hungry and this sandwich was so filling and delicious. This torta was stuffed with smoked ham, pork carnitas, avocado, cheese, tomatoes, and jalapeños making the bread to filling ratio great. The bread was soft and was the perfect pillow for all the goodness inside. The jalapeños added a nice kick of spice to the sandwich, but didn't overpower the taste of everything else. I would love to come back and try out their other dishes!
google avatar

Hanny L.

Yelp
Holy cow! This place is quite delicious, affordable and fast! I did not wait for my food long and the food was quite exquisite! I decided to have their Milanesa Sandwich, which was AMAZING! This is a Mexican place, so I thought it was odd that they have sandwiches (usually because I only ever see tacos and enchiladas being sold in Mexican restaurants). So I'm glad that I got to try their sandwich and I'm glad that this place even exists. Really wish they had this back in my State, but I guess it gives me something to look forward to the next time I'm visiting the area.
google avatar

Hart K.

Yelp
Best tacos I've ever had. You can't eat inside really but there's seats outside. Very very fast, and very very good. Staff are pretty neutral, never rude or unpleasant, but not overly friendly or talkative. It is usually pretty busy, so it makes sense. Highly recommend!

Hans M.

Yelp
I love this place, but to be honest I drive the extra few minutes to the Belmont location because the food from there seems more consistent to me. The Tortas and Tacos are top-notch. The hot sauces are amazing.

Dave N.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and never had a problem. Tonight I ordered my usual burrito and received, 2 large chunks of fat and gristle, 5 lettuce shreds, some salsa, some beans, and ~70% rice. That's it. Not 2 chunks of fat and gristle mixed in with normal meat, just 2 chunks. Needless to say, I was sorely disappointed and composted most of my meal. After this experience, I might not eat her again, or, at the very least not eat again here without expecting another meal like this one.
google avatar

Eugene W.

Yelp
Very good and great value! They ran out of chicharrones when I was there, which was sad :(. The carnitas, pastor, and carne asada are all very good. I think I liked the carnitas and pastor the best. The corn tortillas are great, and they are decently generous with their portion sizes. The ingredients all taste fresh and delicious. Tacos are $3 and burritos are $6.50. The burritos are a little bit small, so you may be left feeling a tiny bit hungry afterwards if you have a big appetite. I will certainly come back, as this is a very nice place to have in Arlington. Would definitely try a torta the next time I come here.
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
If you're looking for an effortless and efficient lunch spot, look no further! With online ordering available so quickly, this place is sure to have your tastebuds saying "Yum!" in no time.
google avatar

Nancy H.

Yelp
No to the tacos!!! Greasy and salty. Lengua, Santido, Carne Asada. $3 Meat was tough. Corn tortillas were sitting in a pool of grease. Only go for the torta, the star of La Victoria. Crispy, meaty, and flavorful.
google avatar

Jesse N.

Yelp
La Victoria has potential. I ordered a plato con carne asada (steak). The flavors were all there, but the texture of the food was off; the beans were hard and the meat was very chewy. The food is decent for the price. I get staff are overworked and underpaid, but the service was really off. The staff just stared at me when I walked in and seemed very irritated when asking them simple questions. Open to trying it again.
google avatar

Dana S.

Yelp
I really dont want to wrote this because they are a tiny establishment and already busy during peak times but darn- their food is sooo good! Get tacos and go ot of your comfort zone- the pork skin one- OMG OMG OMG. So good. REAL authentic tacos- no Taco Bell crap here! Def go thr whole ethnic route and get a soda as well. and sit on the br stools watching out the window. Both locations of this place are just as amazing. GO GO GO
google avatar

Sharon S.

Yelp
Take out tonight for 9 of us! I had the fish tacos which were delicious and large. Kids got burritos and mom and sister got the burrito plates. The burritos are huge!
google avatar

Cristina R.

Yelp
Tasty tortas that are sure to fill you up! We went halfsies on the al pastor torta and the choriqueso torta. Both were full of flavorful meat. The al pastor felt a bit lighter with tomato and avocado. The choriqueso was a heavy boy, with lots of greasy chorizo topped with lots of melted cheese. I enjoyed (what I could of) it but was glad to only have a half portion. Overall solid stop for a casual, flavorful lunch. La Victoria gets a SI from me!
google avatar

Charlotte W.

Yelp
A welcome addition to the town, authentic tacos with a variety of fillings to choose. The tortas are also delicious. Reasonable prices, friendly service. I love the surtido, as well as the lengua. But there are many other choices, too. Not fancy, but really hits the spot when you want some quality quick Mexican food.

Genesis C.

Yelp
You don't understand. If I was having a bad day, it'd get better after a La Victoria meal. This was my go to place. I moved out of Arlington last year and still find myself craving La Victoria. Cheap, good portions, delicious food without fail. Wow this place is such a hidden gem. I can't imagine how many times I've ordered from here. It's so cheap, its comparable to cooking dinner. And I usually have leftovers. Super fresh, juicy, comforting Mexican food. If you're in the area I'd highly recommend. I've tried pretty much everything on their menu, but I usually go with a quesadilla. Horchata is delicious too.
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
Delish. Got the lengua (beef tongue), pastor, and carnitas. The pastor was to die for. Carnitas also very scornful. The lengua was lighter than I expected and had a very nice texture. It was server w a mild green salsa and cut pieces of lime. 3 tacos were more than enough for me. $3 each and came out to less than $10 after tax. Service was very quick. We ordered at the register (no line) and had food in 5 or so minutes (thursday 730pm). Would definitely come back again!

Deborah L.

Yelp
Amazing Mexican street food at great prices.
google avatar

Michele B.

Yelp
Love the carnitas torta and that the serve jarritos! Ordering online and pick up is also super convenient.
google avatar

Jackie K.

Yelp
It is just excellent!! Get a torta, you won't regret it. Order ahead is available and has been very fast.

C. C.

Yelp
Fast, cheap, and good. What more can I say? I eat there frequently. Just a little hole-in-the-wall place, mostly take-out, with a few small tables. I usually have a taco or too. They used to be only $3.00. Now gone up to $3.75, but that's still a good price.
google avatar

Kevin Y.

Yelp
Solid street-style tacos are one of the foods I miss the most from Los Angeles, and La Victoria helps to fill the gap. Tacos here are fairly big with a generous helping of meat. They don't put enough salsa on in my opinion but they'll give you more on the side if you ask. The tortillas are nothing special: just store-bought tortillas heated up on the griddle. The lengua here is excellently tender and beefy. The steak special had a nice marinade but could have been a bit more tender. The suadero was disappointingly dry. Chorizo was nice and smoky, and the carnitss were sufficiently porky.

W. P.

Yelp
Excellent Mexican food with good value. Food is excellent and tasty. Service is generally fast although sometimes they do get slammed because people know this is a great place to go. Good size portions so if you're active or if you work physically during the day, it seems like a great place to grab lunch and then have enough calories to take it through the day. The only thing that's a little off is when they're laying out the bags for takeout. They don't always call out names - so it just gets put down and they walk away. Then everyone standing around waiting in a cluster has to go read the name on the bag and it's just an efficient and annoying. Some more consistent process there would be helpful. Instead it feels like a lot of confusion packed into a small space.
google avatar

Mari T.

Yelp
Yum. If you are craving for good Mexican food, this is a quick easy yummy place you should stop by. The fish tacos are amazing.
google avatar

Sparky A.

Yelp
I went at the end of the lunch rush, so the service & time to service was great. I ordered a burrito, and it was phenomenal. I love Mexican food, and eat Mexican food once per week or so, but this had to be one of the best, if not THE best burrito I ever had. The young man making the burrito added just the right amount of meat, beans, rice, pico de gallo, verde, and cheese that nothing was overwhelmed, and all flavors came out exquisite. Enjoyable to say the least.
google avatar

Natalie S.

Yelp
My fixation on getting a torta here propelled me to venture out to Arlington. I decided on a Victoria torta and mused aloud on whether or not I wanted the horchata. I asked the kind server at the register if she would recommend it. She told me I could sample some to see if I wanted to buy it, so she graciously handed me a sample. It was fantastic, so sweet and had the right amount of cinammon. I ordered one to go. The torta was good. The bread exuded a wonderful toasted look, and the crunch on the outside and fluffiness of the inside wonderfully corroborated my observation. The lightly dressed Chipotle mayo left me wanting more. I liked the creamy avocado as well. The carnitas were a bit dry and salty for my taste. But overall, it was good. Next time I go, I'll probably order fish tacos.
google avatar

Jeffrey L.

Yelp
They've gotten so complacent and lazy that the quality of the food has nose dived. Very stingy on the portions while the prices have increased, nickle and dimed for everything. I love Surtido and out of all the restaurants that I've tried it at this is definitely at the bottom of the list.
google avatar

Robin V.

Yelp
My families go to for a quick take-out order for tasty Mexican food. Great plato mexicano and burritos. My families favorite is their chorizo. They also have great thicker cut chips that are very crispy and salted just right.
