"This dazzling place by Christopher Coutanceau offers two incomparable pleasures: for the eyes and for the taste buds. A long counter in the shape of a skiff (light, long and narrow boat), houses the open kitchen, where the cooks can be seen in action. Seafood (oysters and shellfish) and fish of the day enjoy pride of place on the menu here... to be enjoyed on the terrace that overlooks the sea, in fine weather. Booking recommended." - Michelin Inspector

Great restaurant and friendly service, on certain aspects a bit expensive. But, you know that beforehand and it is indeed more classy

Lucky to enjoy a sunny November lunch at the terrace of the Yole. Attentive service and excellent dishes. Generous serving for the seafood (not in picture). Pluma Iberique and Lieu Jaune were divine.

Perfect combination between relaxed seafood joint and marine elegance. Ocean-side setting, comfortable chairs, thin-rimmed wine glasses. Truly fantastic service with enough personal touch and enough “alone time”. Had oysters that was perfectly set on ice, mussels in a creamy curry sauce. Homemade cocktails also a win! With a colorful and exciting menu I will be back to explore!

Nice scenic restaurant... Great interior and service, great cuisine. Did enjoy a lunch and everything was perfect, from aperitif to dessert. Fresh fish available and great portions. Will certainly come back.

5.09.2024 I visited the restaurant with my family. At the beginning, the table was set for us but only for me and my husband, my son did not get anything… Only when we ordered food for my son with great reluctance was the table set for him. We got fish which was cold but good in taste, while my son did not get anything, he was served to the table after our food was almost eaten… I had the impression that they did not want to serve us because we were with children, the staff laughed at us from the restaurant. I assume that this place was a family place because inside there was a table for feeding the child and changing table in the toilet. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place because the service and atmosphere were not pleasant. I had the impression that we were constantly watched. We wanted to spend our last day in La Rochelle in a nice family atmosphere, but it was not. If the service had been polite, nice, we would probably have left a big tip and ordered more things.. the restaurant should have more respect for its customers, no matter if they come with or without children.

I was expecting too much from the Coutanceau branding. I knew it wasn’t going to be an étoilé experience but at least expected a “bib gourmand” experience. Unfortunately, it’s not even close. The service was great, the view, obviously. However, I was completely underwhelmed with the menu, the taste and presentation, my fries were served cold (which they replaced, thankfully), my grilled octopus was way too dry and charred the sauce (seemed like chimichurri was bland and unseasoned). Rather disappointing and not worth the hype.

extremely pricey restaurant, you pay for the location and views. I had crevettes and a mojito with friends, and it was €13 for the mojito. the waiters forgot my order even though I asked twice, and the mojito came with sugar crystals all not dissolved at the bottom. for €13 i would expect at least the drink to be made properly, even if it’s not particularly well made. crevettes were ok and staff was very busy, maybe because I came on a sunday and there were not enough waitstaff.

We loved our lunch at the Yole de Chris. We were unfortunately unable to eat on the terrace due to uncooperative weather, but it might have been a blessing in disguise: the atmosphere inside is awesome. The open kitchen with a direct view on the grill adds to the experience. The menu puts great emphasis on seafood - and both our fish dishes (the sardines, and a crispy monkfish) were very well prepared. The courgette side could almost have been a meal on its own - absolutely delicious. We finished with the café gourmand - a coffee with a collection of small dessert bites. This one stands out: it includes 4 small versions of the dessert on the menu, and they are all very interesting flavor combinations. Finally, there is a large wine menu - and it is generally well priced. Only one minor quip. While service was generally fast and attentive, and great all around during the meal, we had to ask for the check on three separate occasions! We'll be back for sure.

Yelp
Just saying - all out of mussels on a tuesday at 5:30? server suggested whelks as a sub. They were served cold ona tray of ice, like oysters, and aren't really a high end treat as far as food prep goes.... Sure, they're weird, but that doesn't mean fancy or savory in a delectable way.
