Ann Arbor’s Best Coffee Shops | Eater Detroit

"This Liberty Street cafe is sleek and stylish, with bright white walls and artfully displayed cakes, pastries, and macarons. At night it’s a convenient place to have a beer while waiting for a table at the adjoining Tomukun Noodle Bar. Don’t sleep on Lab’s honey lavender latte." - John Reyes

Very tasty gluten free mixed berry pecan bar! Had a lavender honey oat milk latte too. Relaxing atmosphere right when you step in the door and friendly staff.

Wasn't impressed with this Cafe. Way too small. No seats. Couldn't sit anywhere. The desserts were nothing to speak about, the coffee was okay. It would have been better if we could have sat down. Forget finding a a place to sit. Do yourself a favor. Find a little bigger Cafe. There are so many of them in Ann arbor, Michigan. You can do better!

Cute and aesthetically pleasing to the re-purposed, cozy-industrial eye; It is clean, light, and soft. Not loud like some say. Just like anywhere else, the staff is hit or miss. The last time I went in it was good customer service, as for other times, though, they were a big miss. For example I asked for a coffee to go, I was waiting for my other company and decided to sit inside (only about three people inside as well), only to be glowered at the entire time waiting. Not even there for five minutes. The food is always an experience and I would recommend the mint-lemonade for a first timer. The coffee is rich and heavy, wonderful for winter weathers of Michigan. And the cold drinks are wonderful for any summer heat. Would go again for more experimental cups of flavor.

Google
One of my favorite coffee shops in Ann Arbor! They have the best and most unique selection of drinks and always have yummy pastries. I really want to try their fun latte variations like butterfly pea flower, ube, and jasmine because everything I've had from here has been amazing so I know that these would be amazing too. Lab's ambiance is also great. Super cozy, delicate, and cute with friendly baristas. It's a perfect spot for meeting up with someone or doing homework.

Decided to relax for a bit with a coffee on our day trip to Ann Arbor. We were charmed by how pretty & cute this cafe was. The brown sugar & sea salt latte and a cold brew were perfect. A great place to stop by for a break or to get some work done.

Google
I got a iced lychee rose matcha latte. There was matcha powder clumps in my drink so the powder wasn’t properly sifted and because of that there was a bitter after taste. I also didn’t like that their cold foam came out of a can. The drink tasted okay but for the price of $8 I expected a better quality experience.

Google
Tried the rose latte and the salted caramel latte. Iced rose latte was extremely sweet and i could only taste the syrup. Hot sea salt caramel latte was really nice. I had come for their special lavender latte but they were out of that unfortunately.

This might be my favorite coffee place in ann arbor. The coffee is good, I like the planty environment which makes the place feel both open and cozy. The music is pleasant without being too distracting. The perfect environment for studying really.

Yelp
Had such a lovely morning at Lab Cafe! The staff was super friendly and the menu had some really awesome options. I opted for a simple iced chai latte which was perfect, with a warm and flaky chocolate croissant. My partner ordered an iced lavender honey latte! Such a wonderful location for a date or just to do some reading alone. Definitely would visit again.

Yelp
I am absolutely in love with this location! The decor inside is so earthy and unique, and it put the biggest smile on my face. The staff are very catering to your needs, and have a bunch of recommendations based on what you're craving. I got a Lavender Mocha, which I have never tried before, and was blown away. The refreshing taste was just what I needed to get me through the day. My friend got a chocolate croissant and I went with a chocolate caramel cupcake! The cupcake went perfect with my mocha, and it was a great selection overall. I got a lemonade to top off the meal, and it was the perfect drink that left me feeling new and fresh! Highly recommend this location!

Yelp
Very cute coffee shop. It is very bright and has a lot of greenery. Their menu has some unique items. I got the brown sugar sea salt latte. It was the perfect balance of sweet with a little salty. The indoor seating is limited. They also have some outside seating.

Yelp
Lab Cafe is probably the most unique coffee shops in Ann Arbor with a wide variety of drinks to keep you coming back again and again. The front of the shop is sunken back and it is located close enough to central campus to be convenient for students, but far enough away from the business school to deter packs of Ross students from visiting. The inside of the cafe was filled with kitschy knick-knacks and fun decor to match their color coffees. I came here on a recent coffee date to find the "Best Cold Brew in Ann Arbor", and Lab certainly did not disappoint (or at least that's what I was told by my beautiful date who got the cold brew). I had the pour-over coffee that was filled to the brim, and we took our orders to go. The rest of the morning was filled with wonderful conversation, amazing weather, and one wrong turn that took us wayyyy too close to undergrad housing. Overall, the coffee was great, but the company was even better!

Yelp
I was drawn to Lab Cafe's unique menu with beet, tumeric, ube, and blue butterfly pea lattes. I first tried the beetroot latte which was very clumpy and starchy. The staff was very sweet to make me a tumeric latte instead which was better, but not great- still very gritty and powdery. My boyfriend's ube latte was purple but had no ube flavor and was not that great of a latte, either. Cool menu, but not the greatest drinks.

Yelp
Love Lab! They have good variety of specialty coffees that are fun and delicious. I personally get either lavender latte or matcha latte, and it has a consistently good quality. This is also a great place to study with great vibes, but seats fill up fast!

Yelp
My first visit, I came in wondering about the shop and atmosphere nearby. Alyssa was kind enough to provide information to me about the surrounding places. She is very kind and friendly. I asked for recommendations for other related food and beverage places and she provided me a list. The drip coffee is counter culture and has been brewed to a good recipe that is enjoyable to taste. Outlets and seatings are provided if you're one to study or work remotely. Water station is in the back of the shop near the large windows. Pastries can be purchased for those hungry or you can just walk next door to an asian resturant that has $11 lunch specials throughout the week. Restrooms are clean. The place can be a little noisy, although expected from a coffee shop near campus. I would not recommend taking a call inside for work, but calls are manageable. I recommend this coffee shop to anyone locally or coming in from out of town. The enviornment is friendly.

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop just down the street from the University of Michigan. Great place to grab a yummy coffee and muffin for breakfast or a snack. I loved that their regular coffee is pour over. Definitely a nice change of pace from normal drip coffee. Due to Covid, we sat outside which was was wonderful as it was a lovely day, but it looks like normally there is a decent amount of indoor tables.

Yelp
I feel bad not giving this a place a good review because the baristas were very nice, but unfortunately the coffee and pastries just are not it. I got the blackberry basil pound cake which wasn't terrible but wasn't great (and definitely wasn't t worth $5 plus change!!!), and then an oat matcha... the matcha was so bad that I actually traded it for an iced latte, and again the baristas were so so sweet and understanding about it, but unfortunately the iced latte was really bad too. All the ice had melted when they gave it to me so it was insanely water-y, and for a latte the drink was weirdly dark and strong... a latte by definition is supposed to be quite milk-y and the color is supposed to be quite light. My friend recommended this place so I really wanted to love it, but yeah definitely wasn't happy with what I got sadly :( sorry! The cafe was very cute though aesthetically and was a great place to get some work done, it was not too quiet but not too loud.

Jenica A.

Yelp
Matcha latte was good, pricey and customer service average. Came 10 minutes before closing so that may be on me. May try again, would love to have recommendations and try something else.

Yelp
I love this coffee shop! It has a very clean aesthetic, yet is welcoming... Let me tell you about the coffee, though, since that is the primary reason to go to a coffee shop. Their drinks are incredible! Excellent roasts, delicious concoctions, and baked goods to accompany. We were truly pleased with our lattes (lillie got a lavender oat milk latte), and will be going back as soon as we are able. The baristas were both friendly and expert crafters. Truly? This is the first place we'll hit up when we head to a2 next. They made me happy and satisfied my intense coffee craving. Go...You'll be glad you did!

Yelp
Lab is typically my go-to coffee place on campus, and they always have such tasty and exciting drink combinations. My favorite drinks to get here are the lattes, and out of those I love vanilla rose latte and their matcha latte. I prefer them iced, and they always hit the spot during the summer on a sunny day. During the pandemic, they moved seating outside and put everything in plastic cups. I feel like taste-wise, it is a little different now than before the pandemic (maybe because they put less ice in the drinks?) But overall it's still a favorite of mine. They also have great bakery items, and I remember I loved their red bean paste buns.

Yelp
aesthetic: 4.5/5 food: 5/5 service: 5/5 lab is my favourite cafe in downtown aa!! it's good and bad that i live right down the street from here haha the inside is very aesthetic, with lots of greenery and cute trinkets displayed on the floating shelves, and their iced lavender matcha lattes are to die for!! i recommend getting your latte with almond or coconut mylk, and pairing it with one of their vegan pastries. (their brownie and energy bar are my current faves) although lab does not have indoor seating for now due to covid, they do have a few outdoor tables for customers to sit at. it's the perfect way to take a quick sit-down break between classes or enjoy a nice, sunny day in a2 over delicious drinks. there is free wifi too, which is a plus. i hope lab can open up indoor dining soon, especially with the freezing weather that's about to start!! the ambiance is so calming and would make for an awesome, quiet study spot. while i feel that the drinks are on the slightly sweeter and pricier side, lab's convenience to central campus classes, large offering of unique non/caffeinated beverages and goodies, and friendly service make it definitely somewhere that's worth making your go-to coffee shop :)

Yelp
Their coffee is great, space is big and clean and they have fun little gifts and stickers as well! The staff was extremely kind even though we didn't notice the clearly posted mask requirement - they weren't pushy and gave us grace which was really great (sorry again)! We will be back!

Yelp
Super cute coffee shop on Liberty! Lots of boho, feminine, earthy vibes and they have a great selection of interesting drink flavors. I really appreciate all their tea options besides coffee and espresso as well. They also had a lot of interesting and unique pastries and I really love that they seem to keep changing it up all the time to keep it fresh! The staff seems to be really friendly and knowledgeable enough to give recommendations and whatnot. They also sell some cute little gift shop type things.

Yelp
I am a SBUX fan girl (sorry it's hard to beat their mobile app experience, unique drinks that highlight more obscure premium ingredients) BUT I love Lab. Why? Solely for their New Orleans-style Cold Brew. I never thought I'd be able to find this outside of Blue Bottle Coffee on the West Coast. It's not hard to make -- it's just cold brew roasted with chicory + simple syrup + some type of milk -- but it's not on a lot of menus! So, THANK U LAB. Do yourself a favor & get yourself some rocket fuel aka NOLA-style Cold Brew!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite coffee shops in Ann Arbor. Amazing coffee, delicious sangria, the best desserts, and seriously on point aesthetics. Influencers, add this to your list for your next gram if you haven't already. My favorites here are the cafe con miel and green tea latte. They always have amazing snacks like large cookies and cakes in adorable glass displays at the front. I'm also a fan of their sangria options. They have great window seating that lets you watch the snow fall (or people watch) while you sit cozy inside, and there are tables if you need to do work or are chatting with a friend. AND! This place is setting to the love story between Joanna, owner of Lab, and Thomas, owner of Tomukun next door. They opened their respective stores around the same time, later getting married. That's when they constructed the adjoining entrance in the wall shared between the two stores as a nod to their union. https://annarborobserver.com/articles/the_midtown_restaurant_revival_marches_on.html#.XiOGl1VKj5J When the wait at Tomukun Noodle Bar is long, I sit in Lab with a drink to wait for my table. Servers will come and grab me when they're ready to seat me and my friends. I'm able to bring my beverage with me into Tomukun if I didn't finish it by the time my table is ready. Can't recommend Lab enough! Seriously worth a visit for anyone who's on the fence.

Yelp
BEST COFFEE IN ANN ARBOR! I love all of the AA coffee shops and i have been to every single one in the area. This coffee shop is still my all time favorite. They have great menu options, super convenient location downtown, and a beautiful aesthetic. I always make sure to come get a vanilla rose latte when i'm in the area
google avatar

Yelp
Lab cafe was SO GOOD!! Though everything was a bit sweet for my liking it was not overly sweet. The matcha was such a great flavor and I loved that they offered oat coconut and almond milks! Everything was also quite decently priced. I felt as though everything was a good price. The butterfly pea was really good as well! The honey cinnamon was a wonderful flavor but I felt as though the honey was a bit too strong and sweet, but it would definitely be a hit for people who like sweet coffee! I recommend checking it out!

Yelp
Really enjoyed Lab!! The inside was super cute and the patio was popping!! Such a great find for downtown area Highly recommend for all you coffee lovers

Yelp
Very aesthetic, cute, and cozy coffee and tea shop in Ann Arbor on UMich's campus. I'm a fan of the vibe, coffee and service. It was busy on a Saturday afternoon but the cashier still took the time to chitchat with each customer. There's lots of different drinks to choose from and I finally selected the vanilla rose latte. Yum! Nice balance of vanilla and rose flavors, mixing for a unique combination. I will be back if I visit UM again!

Yelp
Super cute and well decorated place. But as expected like much in downtown Ann Arbor, it's on the high side. Also it's pretty small. They don't have any food except for a very small selection of baked goods. I'm not super into coffee or anything like that so I can't really comment on that but I've tried some of their tea and it was fine. The workers have been nice.
google avatar

Rose M.

Yelp
I am not in Ann Arbor often but I stumbled upon this little gem one day after lunch. I love the space, it's all white and airy, there's a boho chic vibe when you walk in. What drew me in was the chalkboard sign that said "honey and lavender latte." I had the same thing on a recent trip to Dallas and haven't found another place who makes this close to me. Walking up to the counter, there are goodies available to purchase, most are from the songbird cafe and they look delicious! This place is also located next to a very busy noodle kitchen so it can get noisy at times. The seating is limited so you may have to end up sharing a small table with someone. The lavender latte was so delicious, it was perfect for the cold, windy day we were having. I will definitely be back, I really enjoyed coming here! It's a nice place to catch up with a friend or get some work done.

Leah N.

Yelp
This is my favorite coffee shop in town. I love strong and sugary lattes for a treat, and they deliver. My favorite is the lavender honey latte with oat milk. So good! This business also supports other local businesses by selling handmade right in the shop. They sell potted plants, journals and even fancy lighters.
google avatar

Sharon L.

Yelp
This is a cute little cafe you can go for a meetup with a friend or to just study. My favorite drinks from here are the lavender latte and the vanilla latte. However, sometimes depending on who makes it the taste slightly varies. They also have different baked goods daily from Songbird which is a plus.

Yelp
Very cute coffee shop in downtown Ann Arbor. I really like the nice relaxing ambiance. There's a lot of different types of seating making it a great place to hang out with friends, meet with a colleague or just do some work or study. I had the Vanilla Rose Latte and it was delicious. I love that the rose flavor is very subtle! I'd recommend getting it with almond milk as the flavor blends really well! Definitely a great spot!

Yelp
Not only does Lab have fantastic coffee, it is a beautiful light-filled place to sit and get away from the world going by outside. I was originally going to go to the Starbucks on the corner of State and Liberty thinking reliable wi-fi might be worth dealing with Starbucks coffee that is not that great and a location that is not ideal. After walking into that dark Starbucks location filled with loud families attending Art Fair, I decided to try something new. Based on its Yelp reviews, Lab seemed worth a try for a nice place to sit and be able to focus on writing. I'm so glad I made the walk down E. Liberty to go to Lab. It's a wonderfully atmospheric space with tall windows that let in a lot of light. I had the iced New Orleans coffee which was delicious. It is rare to get coffee that is so robust yet smooth in taste...and I say that living now in Seattle, a city which knows its coffee. As an example, Starbuck's "exclusive" Reserve Roastery in Seattle doesn't hold a match to what Lab offers in either coffee or ambiance. If Lab were here when I was an undergrad at U of M, they would have seen me as a frequent visitor for sure. I'll certainly be back next time I'm in A2. Note: I didn't see any electrical outlets around the tables at first, but I did notice a power strip attached to something, presumably an outlet, around the corner so I was able to charge my laptop while working.
google avatar

Annette J.

Yelp
What's better than a delicious iced coffee on a warm, summer day? Sitting outside in the sunshine and doing it! And that's just what I did at my most recent visit to Lab. Grabbed a beverage and a small table just outside in the shade. It was lovely. The strong wifi signal reached my laptop out there and I cranked out some work with some tunes and refilled on my vitamin D all the while, it was awesome. But if it's not sunny or particularly warm it's also lovely inside, with several communal tables, a few window seats along the bar, etc. Admittedly it can sometimes be tough to find a seat during the school year, but in the summertime when the students are gone, it's easy breezy. They also carry delicious baked goods (many from local Songbird Cafe) for snacks, plus a few small gifty things if you want to pick up some cute stationary or such. A wonderful spot right in the heart of downtown Ann Arbor that I love visiting whenever I can!
google avatar

Alicia C.

Yelp
I love the ambiance. I love the vibe. I love the coffee and espresso drinks. I love their array of baked goods sourced locally, giving you a taste of the community. My impression of the cooler espresso drinks though was that it was in the sweet end because the flavors are condensed into syrups, which is a pity because many pairings look amazing, but after being overly sugared out (sharing one latte with a friend was still too much sweet to handle in a sitting) leads to defaulting back to old fashioned espresso or coffee. They do offer an amazing selection of beans though, so it's perfect to try a different type of coffee you haven't had before. I'd love to see more vegan and glutenfree options in the desserts section though! I think there were a few, but rarely both. So a lot of it is just eye candy, same with the overly sweet beverages on the captivating menu. The only other thing is that space is scarce, seating is tight, but you'll want to squeeze in and find a niche. There's only a lucky few who can grab the couch. So the high stools are nice too, just harder to put things down if you need, and no outlets there, only at the couch. But it's definitely more of a social cafe than a study spot (but I still like studying here).

Yelp
This cute coffee shop attracted us with the interior! It was super cute with trinkets and decorations all around. The white background and wood interior helps make it a very instagrammable picture place. However, there aren't many seats. Seriously, no places to sit, my friends and i had to sit side by side at the bar counter area, but the sun was shining on our backs and making us sweat lol. Anyways, onto the food. I ordered the honey lavender latte, my friends ordered the green tea latte and the iced milk drink with the cinnamon...for the drinks. We also ordered the rice krispies and a cookie sandwich. Everything we ordered was too sweet for my friends. They stopped eating/drinking their food. I really enjoyed the honey lavender latte! It was good and warm and not that sweet for me. I also enjoyed the rice krispies with marshmallows. You can never go wrong with rice krispies.
google avatar

Iris H.

Yelp
I went to the lab on my way into the office and it's super cute. They have a solid amount of seating along with bar stools off to the side for folks looking out the window. There are a ton of windows which brings in a lot of light - perfect for working remote. They also have lotions, balms and candles galore for purchase. The coffee and lattes are solid. I tried the lavender and a spiced mocha on my visits. It's a bit pricey when you get a milk alternative but what can you do. Overall it's a great spot to work but I would try parking elsewhere and then walking to the coffee shop. The street parking available out front is meter run so I imagine it would get expensive.
google avatar

Adam G.

Yelp
The Lab has definitely has become one of my favorite coffee shops to visit whenever I am in town. The Baristas and the coffee are always on point!!! And the Americano that I always get (which is perfectly done, always), it's why I keep coming back for more. Salud mi Gente!!! :)
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
Coffee that is cheaper and better than Starbucks' and an amaaaazing vibe. What's not to love? I adore everything here from the hipster decorations to the unique lattes to the wonderful natural lighting to the soothing music. Best thing is that they have day old baked goods for only $1 too! Will def be back in the future. However, one side is that this coffee shop is extremely small and spacing is very limited during busy hours like weekends/afternoons. I've passed by many times before and wanted to stop in, but could never find seating.
google avatar

Janrose S.

Yelp
Stopped by after dinner with my brother before exploring more of downtown Ann Arbor. It was a little hard to find since it doesn't have a big sign at the top of it like the businesses nearby do, so we actually passed it when we tried to find it the first time. Upon closer inspection, we saw little glass decals and realized it was in plain site. For how minimalist it was on the outside, the interior was beautiful. I loved the vibe of the place; it felt very open and bright and calming. I ordered a lavender earl grey iced with almond milk and it was lovely. It would be a great study space too, as there were outlets, plenty of tables, and great lighting. I'd definitely come again if I lived nearby!
google avatar

Shannen B.

Yelp
The warm drinks at Lab Cafe are really great for Ann Arbor's cold depressing winter. I'm a huge fan of their Vanilla Rose Latte and Brown Sugar Sea Salt Latte. There isn't enough seats for everyone, but the space is incredibly beautiful and well-lit. If you get to sit near the windows, you're in luck! Great space for studying especially because the wifi is also strong. The bakery goods here are also to-die-for.
google avatar

Ellie K.

Yelp
Stopped in here today because I had seen a sign they had outside about honey & lavender latte (which I've become obsessed with since I moved to Ohio). Love the atmosphere here, decorations all balanced well. Such cute decorations! Anyway, to the serious stuff: coffee. I ordered the honey & lavender latte and it was just right. I've experienced so many times where the balance between the two flavors isn't quite right where one seems to overpower the other. Here, it wasn't. The sweetness wasn't an issue either. It was just the right amount The only thing I docked a point on was time. When it comes to coffee, I prefer to be in and out. However, there was only one person working behind the counter (who by no means was rude, she was actually very friendly). I think she just seemed so overworked where there would be a line but orders on orders for her to make Overall, likely to be back the next time I'm in Ann Arbor, but hoping next time, the experience will be a bit more pleasant

Kristy Y.

Yelp
The coffee was fruit forward and a bit acidic for my taste and the butterfly pea latte, even with half the sugar was way too sweet. The service was good though.

Amy S.

Yelp
This is my go-to spot when catching up with friends! I really love the natural light, the cute seating, and the flower arrangements that makes the spot so cozy. The cafe has a combination of different types of seating that ranges from a high-top communal table to an assortment of benches and plush chairs in one corner. I'm a huge fan of their lattes and their snacks -- their rice krispies and caramel/chocolate cake especially . I usually stick to their vanilla and matcha lattes, but I believe they also have fun flavors like beetroot, rose, and lavender for the more experimental customers too. If you're looking to do work, I'd recommend charging up your computer before you go. There are a couple outlets around the cafe, but they're a bit hard to get to depending on where you end up sitting. They also play great music! Also, I always tell people who have never been here that it's a very instagrammable spot if you're looking for coffee shops to add onto your "coffee" highlights on Instagram -- haha.
google avatar

Liz K.

Yelp
Limited seating, but darn delicious lattes and snacks. Everything is adorable and cozy-chic, and you'll spot at least a couple fellow-patrons artfully arranging their items for that perfect insta shot. Lab is good spot to catch up with a friend, meet that girl from tinder you're on the fence about, or escape a hectic, grey day. It's not a great spot to settle in and read or write a paper -- though plenty try. It does get quite loud between the music and all the conversations, but not to the point of needing to raise one's voice to be heard. Baristas are helpful and very sweet (if occasionally unbearably hip), and the space is clean and bright. Sometimes, you just need a latte that's both sweet and a little salty, served at a perfectly drinkable temperature, to clear your head and recenter yourself. And maybe a baked treat for good measure. For those days, I am grateful to have Lab nearby!

Yelp
Four years on campus and this was my first time here! Whenever I pass by, it always looks so busy, so I've never tried finding a table to study here. Decided to give it a go on a Monday afternoon, hoping it'll be a little less busy. I had the matcha latte with almond milk, and it was fantastic! None of that powdery aftertaste that can happen sometimes, and definitely not overwhelmingly sweet. The staff was quick and friendly, no complaints here! The place has a great vibe, definitely a space I can see myself studying in. There were people constantly in and out, so even though there was space with the tables, it was definitely busy. There's not much seating, so if you want to secure a study space make sure you get here on off-peak hours. Only complaint would probably be that it's attached to the tomukun noodle bar, so the smell of ramen definitely fills the air over coffee. But that's a small complaint with how awesome the place is.
google avatar

Amanda G.

Yelp
A cute little coffee shop next to Tomukun! Great place to work or read if you can find a spot to sit, since seating is a bit limited. If you like matcha, try their matcha latte! It comes sweetened, so ask for it unsweetened if you don't like sweet drinks.

Yelp
I love Lab. I am here all the time because I live right there, so my wallet weeps about my coffee addiction. That's not to say I think Lab is pricey - I think you pay for the quality of coffee that you get. Starting from pour-overs, I would say Lab is on par with Comet. Lab brings in different beans from different places, including Intelligentsia. I like the variety and pour-over coffees in general bring out the unique flavors of each coffee. I am a sucker for the Brown Sugar Sea Salt Latte (with soy, of course). Especially in the cold winter months, I can't say no to it. It's wonderful. A tiny bit of sea salt goes a long way with enhancing the brown sugar taste. In addition to coffee, Lab offers the best baked goods and pastries ever. They're from local cafes, like Songbird Cafe on Plymouth (another must-go-to place). Definitely get the red velvet cake - I'm obsessed; it's amazing; the cream cheese icing is perfect. Last but not least, if you are wondering where to get the best froyo in Ann Arbor, I would argue that Lab has the best froyo. I'm not a fan of the creamy/milky froyos that most places have. I like when froyo has a little taste of tart like yogurt naturally has. I could probably go on about how much I love Lab, but too long didn't read? Go here. You will like it.

I was excited to go there and order a decaf latte. I had verified on another day that they could make a decaf vegan latte. Well, no such luck. Cashier told me they were completely out of decaf at 10 a.m. and offered me a regular coffee option instead. Obviously I would have ordered that in the first place if I could drink it. I don't appreciate going to venues that can't keep necessary menu items in stock. To me that's a reflection of bad planning. Cashier made an excuse of not enough delivery drivers (to deliver their decaf beans, I presume). Not going back, since I can count on them having in stock what's on the menu.

Yelp
Beautiful space, delicious cold brew and friendly staff! Hooked onto Tomukun Noodle Bar (and Korean BBQ), Lab Cafe is a great stop for coffee, sweet treats and working. Their space is so clean, white and with comfortable furniture. The staff are all so friendly and can recommend things if you can't decide. Their baked goods are so good and lots to choose from! Prices are fair and comparable to most coffee shops in the area.

Yelp
Lab! Yeah. This is a cool hipster coffee shop to study, talk, and mingle. Atmosphere: 3.5 stars There are only three 2-person tables, 8-person community table, two seat by the window, and a living room type with couches and coffee table at the other window. Studybility and workability is a-ok since only the side tables have an outlet and the community table doesn't?? To go to the bathroom, you must use a key by the entrance with the coffee bean scooper attached. Coffee: So I ordered the most popular: brown sugar and sea salt latte. It was exactly what I imagined. sweet and salty. They actually did a pretty good job but I also felt like I need to take small sip rather than gulps to prevent sudden increase in my blood sugar. i give it 4 stars. There was the Tumeric Agave latte. I cook with Tumeric sometimes and chickened out from ordering it. Plus it didn't have any caffeine. According to the barista, it is just Tumeric, agave and steamed milk. Supposedly iced is better than hot. Food: I ordered some kind of a chocolate rice crispy. it was pretty good. wasn't too sweet which I devoured pretty fast. Overall: 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars. I have a feeling this place could get really crowded. I'm not sure if this place is the most convenient place to study/work but hey I got to try another coffee shop in Ann Arbor!

Yelp
Nice spot to stop off and refuel with a tasty tea or coffee. Try the Lavender Honey Latte for something different. I liked the menu Chai tea latte also very nice. Recommended

Yelp
One of the best cafes in Ann Arbor. Amazing lattes, I'd recommend the snowflower latte any day. Not too much space for studying, but a good spot!

Yelp
During my last night in AA, I stopped by this place to thaw myself out from the cold. It wasn't crowded but there were people sitting around, studying, socializing, and enjoying their cups of joe. I got myself a lavender mocha latte and my friend got their famously advertised lavender honey latte. I thought it was a bit overpriced, too. $8.25 for a medium and a small drink. Both were good but a bit too sweet. Their latte art wasn't that pretty either. The milk was already mixed with the drink by the time the barista drew our hearts and whatnot. It also did take awhile for them to make the drink, I had to wait about 10 minutes for my drink to be made since there was only 1 barista making our drinks. This place also serves desserts and froyo if you are interested in that.

Yelp
I love this place. Me and my best friend go all the time to study and sip on the yummy lattes. The music and decor is always on point. I love the natural light the place gets. The staff is always really friendly but very professional, especially Sean--one of the baristas. I get something new every time, and I haven't been disappointed yet! The matcha latte, turmeric latte, and brown sugar latte are all ones I would recommend.

Yelp
Very cute cafe that is connected by an open doorway to the noodle bar next door. This is only relevant because during dinner rushes, the noodle bar patrons wait in Lab's seating area so it may be difficult to find a spot to sit. I ordered the special beetroot latte which is caffeine free and made of beets, ginger, turmeric, palm sugar. Lightly spicy and sweet, this was the lowest sugar option I could find. In my opinion, it tastes better with a non-dairy milk substitute. I tried it with both milk and with oat milk and the latter allowed the flavors to come through much sharper. It was not particularly spectacular, but it was soothing and comes in a vibrant beet-pink color. Their blueberry oat bar had the texture of dried and congealed quick-cook oats. Not a fan, but I did like that it wasn't sweet. Solid for a breakfast snack, but not a luxurious dessert unless you're craving something plain. Would return for the space, ambiance, and coffee-table cookbooks but my drinks and snack were not a draw.
