La Brasserie - Abbaye de Villeneuve

"The brasserie of this hotel that has been tastefully refurbished from top to bottom, is set up in a space that is flooded with light through a beautiful glass roof and bay windows overlooking the swimming pool and grounds. The chef presents a menu that combines traditional dishes (e.g. pâté en croûte, egg mayonnaise, fish with beurre blanc sauce, Loire fish quenelle with crayfish bisque) with more modern recipes. We also like the attractive wine list with (very) reasonable prices, especially for the wines from the region." - Michelin Inspector

The Abbaye is beautiful - it was renovated in 2022. I stayed there nearly two decades ago, it was beautiful then, more rustic, but some amazing features that have been "upgraded" with the renovation. The new bar is fabulous, great cocktails. Staff is very professional. We loved our breakfast. Unfortunately, due to timing, we were unable to dine and take advantage of the extensive wine list. The only issue we encountered was that the chambre we reserved was not the one we received. The photo and the description: "Chambre mansardée - Vue sur le parc|Chambre mansardée, située au deuxième étage ayant une superficie d’environ 15 m² avec une vue sur le jardin et salle de bain avec baignoire."|In English: Attic room with sloping roof (like shown in the photo). We really wanted (and expected this room). When shown to our room, which was not the mansardee, we were told it was more money than we had paid, which made no sense, since that is what we reserved and paid for. We offered to pay more to move, but the receptionist never got back to us. It was a big disappointment. That being said, an off-season opportunity and price to stay in a 4-star charming Abbaye was still above well worth it. It's just a shame we didn't get the room we specifically reserved and the receptionist treated us as if we were misinformed. Sigh. P.S. We speak French so it wasn't a situation of miscommunication.

We had a lovely one night stay at L’Abbaye, as a stop on the way to Bordeaux. We would happily have stayed longer. Very warm and welcoming staff, fabulous clean, bright and opulent bar and lobby. We enjoyed an excellent meal in the Brasserie, with tuna ceviche, crevettes, tartare and entrecôte all perfect. ||We booked one of the smaller rooms, it was still a very good size and tastefully decorated. ||Breakfast was again great quality and good value - €15 for the Formule. ||All in all fantastic value and we plan to come back and spend a couple more nights.

The room was very comfortable, clean and new. The hotel has been renovated and maintained very well. The pool also looked great but unfortunately it was raining so we couldn’t use it. All the staff were lovely and very smiley! Breakfast was super nice although I think the assortment could’ve been better given the price. Would come back for a quick stop!

The venue is amazing: it preserves the charm and identity of the historic building with the elegance and comfort of a modern high end hotel and restaurants (we only ate at the brasserie, FWIW).||||We stayed two nights in January 2023. Our stay was a fantastic experience. The room was spacious and luxurious. The view of the garden was great and a delight especially in the morning light. The decoration of the room tasteful down to the details and overall very comfortable. ||The staff was very nice and did a great job communicating with us prior and during our stay and accommodating our traveling with our young baby. For example, we appreciated they proactively reached out to suggest dining at their restaurant on January 1st, where indeed most restaurants in the area are closed on that day.||||The brasserie atmosphere was very relaxing, the food was great both at dinner and breakfast. The service was top notch. ||||One of the best hotel stay we have had all around.||||One thing to note, but which was not an issue for us is the lack of elevator for the hotel side.

My wife and I stayed here on an overnight stop in transit from Cherbourg to Biarritz. We chose it for it's location close to the motorway and it had good reviews.|We were not disappointed. The conversion from an old Abbey has been done superbly.Public areas are beautiful and the pool is stunning. No expense has been spared in the bedrooms and although we had a standard room it was luxurious and had everything you need including a superb bathroom.|We had Dinner in the Brasserie which was excellent.|One common theme running through the hotel is the excellence of the staff from reception to the bar to the brasserie.Without exception they were friendly and professional and certainly made you feel really welcome. They also spoke excellent English which was a bonus as my French is not great.|Altogether an outstanding hotel.

Beautiful hotel and property. Staff was excellent, friendly, attentive and super responsive. Only small negative was the tiny toilet / water closet. Tremendous value but we were traveling off-season. That said, we would have expected to pay twice the price. HIGHLY recommend.
