"This lunchtime cafe located at the Science Mill offers a nice casual menu of soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps, and flatbreads. Takeout orders can be placed in person; there are indoor and outdoor dine-in areas." - Darcie Duttweiler

Just passing through with my mom and sisters today on our way back from the elephant preservation excursion(highly recommend). It had good reviews and we decided to check it out. We concur :) Great little place! Fancy bread, thick slices of meat and cheese, fresh avocado, and homemade sweet pickled squash. Super cute café.

Bede Ryan

Google
The absolute best veggie sandwich I have ever had! The pear salad was unreal! Beautiful food presentation .Great iced tea and lemonade( I'm picky about my Arnold P's) a must to try!

Google
Very healthy. Enjoyed our salads very much. Friendly staff.

Shauna Pepitone

Google
Delicious home baked cookies and pies, flavored coffee & espressos, cute atmosphere, and friendly staff.

Google
We stopped by to pick up sandwiches to-go on our way to a tasting at Lewis Wines and got the Turkey and White Cheddar Stack sandwiches. They were bomb! Thick cut turkey, the cheddar was perfect, fresh veggies, great bread, and awesome homemade pickles served on the side with tortilla chips. It was perfect with our wine tasting. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Johnson City. Fast friendly service too 😊

Google
Tomato Basil soup was great! Such a great pit stop in route to crazy busy Fredericksburg, and much more affordable. I didn’t give it 4 stars simply because I prefer to eat with real utensils and the bathroom wasn’t the cleanest. They are likely short staffed like the rest of the world right now, so lots was forgivable. I will definitely go back.

Google
Food was amazing. Even my picky eater loved his. Took a long time to get it, but that was bc of an event at the Science Mill next door and a majority of restaurants are closed on Wednesday in Johnson City. Would definitely go back.

The gentlemen working the Cafe was very friendly and welcoming. I ordered a peach salad and thought it was very flavorful and filling. My wife got a flatbread and was generous enough to let me try it. It tasted great as well. We'll definitely be stopping here again the next time we are in town.

Bonnie G.

Yelp
Excellent Tomato Basil soup! Also had the Texas BLT and my goodness it had a lot of bacon on it! Yummmy! We will be back.

Beth B.

Yelp
Great cafe with very good, fresh food. Service was excellent. We ate outside and enjoyed the setting.

Craig C.

Yelp
Went here today after reading yelp recommendations and it was great we had the Texas chili and Texas BLT. Chili was tasty and a nice bowl with onion and cheese. The BLT was packed full of bacon on great bread with tortilla chips. It's right next science mill but worth the stop. Easy to find but parking is limited. Great lunch on the patio today

Monnisa L.

Yelp
Not what I was excepting but the food was good. It is a tiny place with only 4 tables on the inside and a few under an awning outside. The man who took our order was nice. It is lunch spot.

PR T.

Yelp
Simple menu in a small location. Their menu changes daily so don't rely on anything posted online.

Summer M.

Yelp
It's tiny but surprisingly delicious!! We came here after a tour of Johnson ranch. What a fun area!! Get the tomato soup and grilled cheese! The gentleman working 2/3. Was so sweet and happy! I'll come again

Paul Z.

Yelp
Glad we took Daniel's recommendation ( at Vinovium) Fantastic food, great staff and a go to stop to pick up sandwiches for lunch at the Vinovium vineyard tasting.

Yelp
Part of our experience at the Science Mill -- a nice day from San Antonio -- is a lunch break at the café. We can count on fresh, healthy, local food, including simply prepared foods that the kids will like. On a recent visit, the salad incorporated fresh local peaches. The café is accessible from inside the Science Mill as well as from the street -- Lady Bird Lane. There are two interior seating areas and one outside patio. The iced tea is nice and strong to keep you awake on the drive home to San Antonio.

May A.

Yelp
We've stopped here a few times on the way to Fredericksburg. The food seems a little unique but good. The people that work here are welcoming and accommodating. My kids like the food and that's a big plus!

JL K.

Yelp
Met girlfriends here for lunch, we each had something different, and it was all absolutely wonderful!

Yelp
This place is absolutely adorable! Recently, our students went on a field trip to the Science Mill and as a last minute chaperone, I didn't pack a lunch. Luckily, this cafe is adjacent/part of the Science Mill (which I also recommend for a day of fun if you have elementary-middle school aged children). The service is friendly and the menu is filled with fresh food options. They also have a specials board next to the register with seasonal favorites. I would say the only downside is probably the wait. I waited close to 30 minutes for my sandwiches and flatbread. If I wasn't on a field trip, time wouldn't have been such an issue but we were on a tight schedule. Some tips for next time (since it was such a fun time, there hopefully will be a next time): order the food at the counter inside the science mill. I could have probably asked about how long it would have taken and then checked back to pick up the food when it was ready. The food was great! Very fresh and again, if we weren't on a field trip, I would have really ordered way more food because everything sounded delicious. For ease of eating and wrangling children, my co-workers and I got sandwiches. I got the German: rye bread, sauerkraut, ham, mustard and Swiss cheese. So delicious! It came with chips and a delicious squash pickle. I forgot what my co-worker ordered, but he inhaled it so I assumed it was delicious. We also got a flatbread pepperoni and it looked delicious. However, it was large and very appealing to the children so our other co-worker did not eat it and took it home. In the end, this delicious food offered a nice relaxing bit of adult time during our 6th grade field trip and it was absolutely wonderful!

Rebecca H.

Yelp
A literal hole-in-the-wall place! What a delightful little no-frills cafe! The menu is small, but everything is fresh and genuinely home made. My only complaint is that the iced tea wasn't great. Everything else was spot on! It's tiny and only seats about 10-15 people inside--max! There is covered outdoor seating that I didn't check out because it was summer in Texas!

Carolyn A.

Yelp
I stopped by for a late lunch and coffee, and my the spinach and pear salad was delicious. Thanks much! Feeling fortified. This lovely little cafe is next to Science Mill and a stone's throw from the Lyndon B. Johnson Boyhood Home. That's for when you need a walk after your scrumptious lunch ...

Luci H.

Yelp
My dads rule is to never eat lunch at a place hat doesn't serve alcohol, but my new rule is that Lady Bird Lane Cafe is a big ole exception. Dads aren't always right. This place has a bit of everything that you expect in a small town. First, it's a cafe, that comes with a ton of charm. They have a cute patio overlooking the science museum next door, which is perfect for a breezy Texas day. They also have a bunch of Texas food. The frito pie was amazing and thank the Lonestar state that the chili didn't have beans in it. BEANS DO NOT BELONG IN CHILI. FIGHT ME. The guy working the cash register was a delight. He was Southern to his core and had the friendliest demeanor. It was the icing on the Johnson City cake.

Jay W.

Yelp
What a great stop! We were driving from Austin to Kerrvile but just needed a "little" something to eat. We drove by this place but it looked interesting so we turned around and went back. We definitely were not sorry. It's cute. The menu wasn't large but actually perfect sized. The man behind the counter was very pleasant. There were three of us and between us we ordered sandwiches and salads. We were all happy with our lunch and glad we stopped. We would definitely stop again. Loved the place!

Erin H.

Yelp
Loved this place! Stopped in for a late lunch after hiking and swimming and I was starving. They did not disappoint! I was all set to order the bacon, avocado and havarti sandwich, and then Al pointed out the daily specials. This made my original choice difficult because there was a watermelon, feta and Kalmata olive salad. So I got both and took the leftovers home. This will now be my lunch spot after hiking!

Andrew L.

Yelp
Great fresh made recipes. The best lunch spot in town. Friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Steven K.

Yelp
OMG...Bowl of Texas Red with a grilled cheese sammich... Wife had a Frito Pie... Sweetest staff ever...we'll be back.

L F.

Yelp
Second time at this place and I have to say, they are absolutely doing something right! Best chili I've ever had and all the other dishes are delicious too! Definitely try their grilled pimento cheese sandwich! They do have daily specials as well and if you get a chance to try their vegetable lasagna, you will surely be glad you did! Also the tea here is brewed strong (which is how I think tea should be) and it's so good! If you're ever in Johnson City, definitely try this place out! The staff is super sweet and friendly too!

Donna L.

Yelp
Cute and quaint! Al provided great service and his wife served up delicious food! Stopped on the way to Fredericksburg and made my tummy happy! I had the Turkey Sandwich Stack and thoroughly enjoyed it. I will definitely come back again!

Carlos C.

Yelp
I've been eating ham and cheese sandwiches since before I could remember. This German Ham & Cheese Griller was the top of sandwich making expertise I've ever experienced. 5 stars is not enough to describe this perfection. I tip my hat to you Lady Bird Lane Cafe.

laura b.

Yelp
I ordered the house special - peach salad with chicken added. I look forwarded to the local peaches and, unfortunately, they were far from ripe. The grilled chicken was definitely frozen and had poor quality. The greens were not rinsed and tasted dirt at times. I grew up in the area and know this is not the usual for many cafes. As a plus, the service from the cashier was friendly, as expected in TX Hill Country.

Marsha L.

Yelp
A terrific little place to eat in Johnson City! Pick up a jar if pickled squash whine you are there. Its awesome!!!

Claire S.

Yelp
Loved this little cafe! Happy to see a vegan option on the menu! Spinach and blueberry salad was delicious! Will definitely be back!

Steven R.

Yelp
Only had one cook and one cashier/bus boy. They were slammed and I was expecting to not be impressed. Food took 12 minutes and the kids devoured their hot dog and I my salad. Was very impressed with the cleanliness and food. Good job. I wasn't expecting to be writing a decent review

Joanne M.

Yelp
Stopped by a quaint little cafe in Johnson City. Restaurant was very clean and a very friendly staff. The menu was unique. The fresh texas peach salad was refreshing and very full of flavor. Will definitely stop in again.

Gary W.

Yelp
A charming place to grab a sandwich, salad, or flatbread with a gourmet twist. The gentleman at the counter makes you feel at home. Nice place to stop and grab a bite if you are in the mood for "home grown" hospitality and food.

Carol S.

Yelp
We stopped here for lunch on our way to Fredericksburg. They had a great selection of sandwiches and friendly, efficient staff. Can't beat homemade bread! The inside dining was a bit loud because there were several groups of children, so we sat outside and thoroughly enjoyed our meal!

Joe P.

Yelp
A wonderful little place frequented mostly by folks going to the local science museum. We each had very tasty salads. Our only hiccup was the drenching of dressing in the salad. This would have been easily remedied if we'd have asked for dressing on the side.

Pam E.

Yelp
Diamond in the rough. Not much sidewalk appeal but the food was terrific just like the man who took our order

Daisy L.

Yelp
Delicious, healthy options right in the Science Mill. Fresh and delicious. The Cafe has 2 sides, there are tables inside the Mill right next to the padded play pit for the under 3 and under crowd. Worked great as the pack of kids kept jumping up and exploring the maze wall, snack a bit, build and race your own car, snack... much easier. The staff are super nice.

Nancy T.

Yelp
Small, unusual venue. Superb menu of fresh food. Been there twice now on long distance trips. Perfect.

Kevan I.

Yelp
This cafe was the perfect choice for a road trip lunch stop. Great healthy food and excellent service. Prices are very reasonable. Loved the soup of the day!

Patty S.

Yelp
Cute, casual cafe serving fresh food at reasonable prices and run by friendly people. You order at a walk up counter then you choose your seat. Food is served in baskets with plastic utensils. Our party of 8 sat outside at a picnic table and everyone's meal was delicious. From the artichoke griller to the frito pie to the tomato soup and turkey wrap, everything was made from scratch and very tasty. They happily offer gluten free options too. A great find!

Katy C.

Yelp
Mediterranean wrap was bad. Hardly anything in it- they don't put peppers, artichokes or olives as stated on the menu so you're basically just eating a dry tortilla and banana peppers, rice, some lettuce and chickpeas. No flavor and hardly any veggies. They did leave the cheese out like I asked and put a lot of rice and chickpeas in it so decent but wouldn't come back

Gail R.

Yelp
Surprise!! This little gem was beyond good for a ladies lunch. Mediterranean wrap and spinach salad were excellent. Try the homemade sweet pickle mix. Small mom and pop place with attention to fresh and detail.. Plus service with a smile. I'll be back for sure.

Jaison S.

Yelp
Ok, probably not a full 5 stars but given its location and the really nice folks working there I've got to round this 4.5 up. The turkey and cheddar was really great and the prices were fair. There's also a lot of interesting soda choices if that's your thing.

Dee Dee H.

Yelp
What a treasure. They are a farm to table establishment. The food is thoughtfully prepared, well presented and tastes fantastic. I will crave Peach Salads with Chicken for the rest of my days. The peach slices were divine The greens were a perfect mix. The chicken moist and flavorful. And the gorgonzola, pecans and homemade Peach Vinaigrette dressing were a stroke or pure genius. Everyone else in my party had some version of a BLT. One added avocado and havarti. All were equally pleased. On the way out we purchased some of their wonderful homemade pickled relish and decided to try a Cheerio Treat, which is their version of the Rice Krispies treat. They are to die for. It was great to stumble upon a place where all of the staff cared enough to do their best.

Angie W.

Yelp
We were there spring break so got the abbreviated menu (hence the lack of a star). The man who worked the counter (older gentleman) was wonderful... above and beyond in the customer service dept. Got the chili, tomato basil soup, a turkey sandwich... and we left pleased with full bellies. Glad we stopped here.

Paula H.

Yelp
I ran in for a quick cup of coffee, and was not disappointed. Delicious coffee and great customer service. I was I was hungry at the time, because the menu looked delicious.

M H.

Yelp
Great little mom and pop cafe between Austin and Fredericksburg. Right next to the children's museum and kind of tucked away. Super cute inside and the iced drinks were just what we needed on a hot day. Would definitely stop here again on our next road trip!

Marsena A.

Yelp
Stopped here for first time on our way to Houston. What a great lunch place. Service was wonderful. I had the green chili corn chowder and split the Turkey avocado wrap. Food was fresh and delicious. We will definitely be back!

Katie N.

Yelp
We stopped here on a Sunday afternoon drive through hill country....starving without knowing anything about the place. A wonderful surprise to discover Fresh Organic ingredients in this serendipitous stop for lunch. The menu has a nice variety of sandwiches, salads, and meals; it's a small and concise menu but have a variety across being healthy or just tasty. The homemade tomato basil soup was fabulous, the pickled sweet peppers side was something I would even normally think I would like and yet Loved it. I ordered the bacon, avocado, some fancy cheese sandwich = Amazing. Highly recommend you try this cafe.

Sarah K.

Yelp
Great lunch! Lemonade was awesome, got bacon, avocado, cheese, spinach, on really good bread. Served on cute plates and great outdoor eating area.

Stacy B.

Yelp
Wow, what a treat! We had lunch here today on our way to Fredericksburg. If you like California and Farm to Table, you'll love this little place! I had the Ham Flatbread which was great. My daughter loved the Turkey wrap! They had the old fashioned cokes and Vanilla Creme sodas in the bottle. They had fresh planted herbs on all the tables and the available Himalayan Rock salt and sweet relish was amazing! The brownies were the best I've ever had - I bought 3! We also bought some freshly packaged coffee just roasted and packaged 3 days ago - it smelled divine! It's a cute place and I think they're going to need to expand before too long!

Melanie C.

Yelp
Food was good but nothing spectacular. Enjoyed the Special K salad with its dressing.

Jo L.

Yelp
Delicious spinach and blueberry salad. And the ham on flatbread was Devine. Organic and fresh. Brownies were fresh and yummy.

Marilyn F.

Yelp
Enjoyed lunch here today. Had the raspberry blue cheese salad and a half order of chile. Both were delicious and very filling.

Allison H.

Yelp
Good basic and semi-healthy food when you're passing through. Very nice people!

Judith E.

Yelp
Friendly staff and tasty, fresh food. Had the spinach salad with blueberries, avocado and lemon vinaigrette. Will be back when in the area!
