Denver’s Essential Breweries Right Now, Spring 2023

"“Great beer, better world”: That’s the slogan of this Colfax taproom founded by three AmeriCorps alumnae, who donate 100% of proceeds over cost from their CSB (community-supported brewery) memberships to a wide range of nonprofits while hosting regular events that further support various social causes, local artists, and more. Drink well, do good over a round of Liberty American Lager, Sandra Day IPA, or seasonal pours like Muffin Heist Chocolate Stout." - Eater Staff

Was looking for something cool and different and found it. Woman-owned with delicious beers and a food truck was there. I love that they make a point of giving back and they even ask if you want to donate anything to a local nonprofit at checkout. My friend felt a little weird about the bathroom though since it wasn’t a personal one and she said it would have felt a lil uncomfy if someone were using the urinal when she walked past to the stall. I liked all of my beers but the hazy ipa was the clear winner. If I’m on this side of town this might be where I head! Parking is limited, there is a lot but it only has a few spaces. Street parking otherwise.

One of our favorite breweries around Denver! Their new space is great. Really good beer in an inclusive, welcoming environment.

Lady Justice is such a fantastic business. It’s not often a business has such a strong mission AND also provides a great product. Their beer is top tier and they always have at least 15 options. As a business that is a place for all people, their choice in brewed products also reflects this. Always bring our friends here when they visit.

Google
I came here with 2 friends. There was indoor& outdoor seating. There was a food truck outside with delicious tacos. The beers were fabulous. There was live music inside. I highly recommend Lady Justice. I look forward to returning.

Google
Great neighborhood bar with good beer. But question for the owners. Why do you serve all 13oz glasses but charge 16oz pint prices? I can’t for the life of me make sense of it. In today’s world I can’t help but feel shorted over shrinkflation now affecting my beer.

Adam Staley

Google
Great neighborhood gem, LGBTQ+ friendly, 100% women-owned, and an excellent selection of in-house brews that rotate frequently. With its location on Acoma St directly behind the Gothic, it's a popular place to stop by and meet up with fellow concert goers for pre-show drinks. On such nights I wonder if the rear gate could be opened to allow quick pedestrian passage through the alley and the Gothic Theater parking lot that leads to the venue's main entrance - but can certainly understand keeping that gate locked during non-business or non-event hours.

Google
Less than good beer. Every style of beer tastes 'unfinished' with strange flavors and aftertastes. All the beer is served in tiny glasses, No Pints. By the time the pour settles you are lucky to get 10 or 11 ounces of beer in the glass. The tap room is welcoming and a comfortable place to hangout. Nice, fun and friendly staff. The business has a wonderful mission to support the community.

Google
Loved our experience at this brewery. The beers were delicious and the Denver company chips that were available are also wonderful. Staff was so friendly and wonderful. The flight is definitely the way to go! Love their values, their creative name & love supporting local women. Street parking. Location isn’t super convenient for us personally, but highly recommend. We enjoyed taking home some of their beers, canned. Also! The little free library of books- notable queer & empowering authors— be still my heart! 🙌

Yelp
What a great space! Tucked in just a smidge off Broadway, they have a small parking lot with street parking available. There is both outside and inside seating. They had cool looking merch. I'll need to pick up a shirt next time I visit. Order at the bar. I put in my order and then found a bar seat. I had picked up some dinner from the food truck outside and enjoyed it with my first beer, Media Circus. This was a white stout with coffee and chocolate notes. Tasty! Next I tried one of their flagship beers, Chosen Family. It is an Extra Special Bitter (ESB) an English style, that I enjoy. Also a tasty choice. My last beer was chosen for the name, "All Birds Are Spies," a West Coast IPA with Comet and CTZ hops. Overall enjoyed the vibe, the conversation with folks at the bar and the beers. This will warrant a return visit, for sure.

Yelp
I want to give 5 stars to this place but, I can't. The seltzer was whack. My friends' beers were awful. The barista that served us had absolutely no personality outside of the size of her hair. The ambiance was 'okay'. Not very diverse at all. Music, lame. Just not our jam. Glad to have a lesbian owned brewery AND, they gotta step it up a bit in my tiny opinion.

Yelp
A great conversation with good friends at a cool brewery hidden in a neighborhood centrally located in the Denver metro area sounds like a thing to you, then go here: Lady Justice. A group of friends (about 25) gathered here today for a quick happy hour drink. My residency in this Mile High City for more than a quarter century didn't even do a good job to discover this cool place until today (June 11, 2024 to be precise.) It looks small on the outside especially if you are looking at its main entrance. Once you are inside, you'll immediately realize that this place is somewhat inconspicuous. What I must say is that fact that this place's got a spacious patio. We were inside for the first 30 minutes of our gathering but once everyone had shown up, we gradually moved our way out to the patio. I like its simple, clean ambience; this is so fitting for a brewery like this. The bar where you order your drink is quite wide, too. The lady there who assisted me was more than accommodating to my needs; she let me try three different beers before I was able to decide which one to get (when I turned around there was a line of several people patiently waiting for their turn. I was hogging the bar for like 5 minutes. My bad....) Although the menu is a bit small you'll find what will suit your taste bud. Tonight, I got me one of the fruity pale ales. I may not be an IPA or Ales person in many cases but as long as it's somewhat fruity, I am well capable of tolerating the bitterness. The brewery was founded in 2014 so Happy Birthday to Lady Justice for being open for the last 10 years!! And I truly appreciate its mission statement: "It was founded to make the world a better place. It dedicates time, space, and money to nonprofits and community partners that support and empower women and girls in the state of Colorado." Wow, it's nice to know that I was there to make a difference!! Now my task is to spread the word about this place to many people.

Yelp
Lady Justice Brewing is currently hosting their first-ever immersive taproom experience inspired by their flagship beer, Ski Jorts Lager. Picture this: 70s queer après-ski vibes, a brand-new beer release (Butter Queer Porter), free interactive events, fundraising for local nonprofits, a coupon tree, and more! What I ordered: Ski Jorts Pale Lager Butter Queer Porter (with GLITTER!) Holidaily GF Favorite Blonde Best sip: I honestly loved all three beers, but the Butter Queer Porter stole the show for me. It was roasty with notes of vanilla and butterscotch, and the glitter added such a fun touch!

Yelp
Beer with a cause. Love this place and their beer. Lady Justice always has events going on, today's was an art market. Their last day at this location will be 2/29/24. They are moving to a larger facility in Englewood and will open March 20th. Their beautiful murals are unable to come with them but they are having the same artist paint a new one at their next place.

Yelp
This space is super fun!! This month it is themed and I went to the jort run... what a blast a great turn out and the proceeds went to a dedicated cause which was super cool!! I haven't met someone I don't like there. It is a place for all type of events. They have a great space for private events, smaller groups, one on ones, and if you just wanna come hang out solo. They have all sorts of events going on(trivia, bingo, book clubs, meet ups, the list goes on and on), I've been to their Drag trivia where I met Jessica La'Whore.... AMAZING! I keep up with what's going on through IG. They tend to have rotating food trucks, and also allow you to bring food in or have it delivered there.

Yelp
Love the vibes in this awesome hang and brewery. Super kind beertender served my flight on this stunning board. I also ordered pretzels to keep my crew munching while we hung out both inside and out. Even scored some very cool merch. Love the concept of doing good back in the community and the programs that support their mission statement. Makes locals and visitors alike feel like they participate together.

Yelp
Sometimes with beer involving Strawberry it's just too simply sweet and comes across more like a soda rather than a beer. But in the case Steve and I had with Lady Justice Brewing we found that nothing was too unwieldy when it comes to balance with their Strawberry LaLager. The flavors were balanced quite well and was not reminiscent of a soda pop but a creative lager. Highlights in flavor involve Strawberry with a sparking and aromatic essence. Definitely a nice crisp flavor as well. This beer was fun to drink and I appreciate the seriousness taken to make a well balanced lager that could tip towards a very sugary drink but didn't.

Yelp
First of all "Sourtime Sadness" is easily and by far the best sour beer I've had. Let's just say at 61 yrs old I've had a few. Unbelievable. Stop what you are doing and plan to get down to Lady Justice Brewing pronto. I've only tried two of their beers and I am convinced I really need to go back and 'work' through the rest of the beers on tap. I really hope they take this beer to GABF and have some real professional beer judges try the Sourtime Sadness. I really thought it was that good!

Brett J.

Yelp
Went last night for the first time and had solid beers in a warm and festive environment. As a queer person, I appreciate that LJ is here to provide a safe and fun space for those of us looking to be with our community. The bartender was another story who was rude and unprofessional. My friend and I both had interactions with her that left us not wanting to return. We were also surprised that two flights with tax was $34.52. Beers: 4 stars Atmosphere: 5 stars Service: 2 stars

Yelp
Love this spot! Cozy brewery vibes & I love the idea! The beers are great and they have THE BEST PRETZELS. I was meeting some friends on a Sunday night and decided to bike there. After a long ride I was parched & was really craving a root beer. I thought "no chance will they have root beer" & sure enough they had craft root beer. After my root beer (that absolutely hit the spot) & some h20 I was ready for a beer. After sampling a few (love that they allow samples pours!) I settled on the prickly pear seltzer. The color by itself was enough to convince me to order. It's such a vibrant pink & had excellent flavor. I was shocked that I loved it so much as I am not usually a seltzer gal. I decided I needed a snack and ordered the cinnamon pretzel. Y'all - I will be thinking about this pretzel for weeks. I found out they purchase them from a local bakery frozen & heat them up at the brewery. I am convinced I need a home supply of these incredible pretzels in my freezer! The outside was so crispy and the inside warm & soft. You MUST get a pretzel. They have salted pretzels with mustard or cheese and cinnamon sugar. I believe they even have vegan pretzels.

Yelp
Great little LGBTQ+ owned brewery! On an up and coming block of historic Colfax, it has only a handful of indoor tables with a few bar seats and a small outdoor patio. Fantastic beer with some light locally made snacks available if you need 'em. You can also bring in carry out (Hello Bahn and Butter Bakery!) and pups are welcome on the patio.

Yelp
I came here on a Saturday and it was a nice vibe. The bartender was very nice and welcoming. I loved the decor in the taproom. I got a flight of four and all the beers were a hit. The Brown Ale hit the spot, what a magnificent beer. The only downer is that they didn't have any stickers. I love to collect them and I'm on a brewery hopping tour of Denver. Anyway, this spot is truly a gem in the Denver area craft beer scene.
google avatar

Yelp
When you see a women- and queer-owned brewery with a cause, you cross your fingers and hold your breath and hope it's good. Lady Justice did not disappoint. Most of the customers know each other so the tap room feels a lot like hanging out in someone's living room. If you go in alone, you will feel like you're with old friends before you get through half a beer. I got a flight: -Strawberry LaLager - I couldn't taste the strawberry but it was still a great lager - Chosen Family ESB - malty with a perfect roasted finish - this was my favorite - Sandra Day IPA - their flagship beer but was my least favorite (great balance but I like heavy hops) - Sunday Best Cashmere, a Juicy Pale Ale with Cashmere and Sabro hops. Perfectly juicy - much lighter texture than most hazy IPAs. I love it when brewers make a style accessible to folks who might normally not like it - this is the one I would have ordered a full pint of. - Hot Gossip: Barrel aged Bock - kind of a theme in this tasting - another beer that wasn't too heavy (like most BA's) - Butter Queer Porter (they also have a Barrel-aged rye porter) - this is crazy good. An exceptional Porter. The butterscotch is heaven. Proof that a dark-colored beer doesn't have to be heavy. This was the easiest to drink. Trivia starts at 6pm on Wednesday and they can warm up a pretzel for you in the toaster oven (and sandwiches until they run out from the nearby bakery) if you're hungry. Added bonus... the bartenders put their pronouns on the chalkboard. Gabe and Jess were fantastic hosts. In a crowded craft beer scene, this one is not to be missed. It's like supporting a talented friend.

Yelp
My sister found Lady Justice for us since we were in town and wanted to watch the LV Aces WNBA game. Loved that they support women's sports! By accident, we went while Trivia Night was going on. Watched the basketball game, played trivia - we had a super great time!! Good, friendly vibes. Felt inclusive. Was happy to support a woman-owned, LGBTQ+ spot. Great Mexican food from the truck outside, too!

Yelp
Cute bar great brews just in the wrong location on Colfax.. serves pretzels bar snacks just go during the day and not at night.

Yelp
Hey all! Miss me? It's been a very long time since I've written a review but I had to give a shout-out to Lady Justice. We drove past it the other day and decided to swing in today for to check it out. Got here just after they opened and it was amazing. We stayed a bit longer than we planned just because we enjoyed the beers, the vibe, and the beer tender Gabe was awesome! This is a very cool spot on east Colfax in Aurora. The theme is one of inclusiveness, sorely needed today. They had a good variety of beers, I had the Sandra Day IPA, and loved it so I had a couple more. Jess tried a couple of juicy ones. One thing that impressed me regarding the beers was that they make a basic American lager, which far too many breweries ignore, eliminating a large portion of beer drinkers who like these over craft beers. They had a Laws barrel aged that was delicious as well. Gabe chatted with us the whole time about beers, books, music, everything. We loved coming to this place in its previous incarnation, and we are loyal fans now. I highly recommend trying it! Cheers!

Yelp
I'm pushing for the 4th Star.... I arrived with my friend about 20 mins until closing, but we missed last call. We talked to the Beertender and decided to get some to go beer, so it's not a totally wasted drive. He was cordial and shared what he thought we should pick up and we did. We got their "Big Gay IPA" and it was very smooth and approachable. We really enjoyed it, but still were disappointed on not trying more. BUT we will return. See pics of the one can...so funny! We also wanted to support them! Go diversity and love!
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome LGBTQ friendly brewery. Small but vibes were amazing. Bartender was so friendly. Beers are great. They do a ton of events too. Definitely will be back here for more beer!
google avatar

Emily W.

Yelp
I love this bar! Good beer! Great snacks! Great people! I went for sparkly beer (yes they put glitter in beer at your request) and I've returned several times since just because it's a great place to hang out. I loved meeting new people at craft night, winning prizes at music bingo, and just digging the atmosphere. Also the art on the wall is amazing!

Hannah G.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite spot in Denver! You won't meet a kinder, more inclusive staff and atmosphere. The vibes are immaculate, the beer is outstanding, the customers are the coolest, the support of other local businesses and artists is off the charts, what more could you want? Super fun weekly events? Good news, they have that too! 1000/10 would recommend.

Tori P.

Yelp
Queer friendly. I think they need more options though. And there were a lot of kids in the bar which I wasn't expecting.

Lia K.

Yelp
One of the best places to go for good beer, kind people, and fun times! Plenty of events all year long, a nice outdoor patio for anyone who enjoys the sun (not me, I stay indoors where it's nice and cool!), dogs welcome, and much more!
google avatar

Matt R.

Yelp
This brewery rocks! All female owned brewery that is dedicated to giving back to the community. How can you not support them?! Their beer is delicious and the vibe of this place is fantastic. They're focused on women empowerment and using most of their profits to better their community and the women of Colorado. Their ESB won bronze US Beer Open and it deserves it, while their Sandra Day IPA was a delicious flagship. Check these awesome Ladies out!
google avatar

Deborah N.

Yelp
Good beers, great causes, friendly staff. What more could you want? Was a great place for a chill Sunday with friends, but they assured us it was also super fun on trivia nights.
google avatar

Abigail P.

Yelp
I loved visiting this brewery! I've been following them on Instagram for so long. I'm a huge fan of their online accounts and now a huge fan of their beers. A socially motivated and progressive brewery that makes quality beer is hard to find! The beertender was super friendly and engaging. He was super helpful when picking beers. A return is definitely planned in the near future!
google avatar

Jackie P.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places. It's very rare to see women running the show at a brewery but LJB proves that hats exactly where they should be. The beers are great, the staff is kind, and the commission art from local artists that are truly stellar.
google avatar

Yelp
Five stars all day every day!!! Fest Beer in Denver- best beertenders in the world!!! Completely inclusive!!! Been coming here for a year and can't get enough!! Yelp says closed on tuesdays- not true!! Open!!!
google avatar

Chanh S.

Yelp
Good beers...friendly staff! Lots of hoppy beers and cool merchandise! Especially love what this brewery represents and donates to nonprofits!
google avatar

Ciarra J.

Yelp
The vibes are immaculate, it felt friendly and welcoming. The patio was nice but the traffic was a bit of a vibe killer... oh well, I still had a great Saturday afternoon. The bartender recommended the guava seltzer and it was delicious! It is within walking distance of my partner's house so it made a great stop on the way to the thrift. Very dog friendly, they gave us a bowl for my pup. I noticed they had a kids seltzer that came with a color changing cup for the family next to me, I thought that was such a great touch. I love that it's women owned and enjoyed genuinely inclusive vibes. Will be back.

Dru A.

Yelp
Always warm and welcoming to ALL people. Top-notch beer and always serving up for great causes. This team knows good beer, both from the production side, as well as the judging sude
google avatar

Lo O.

Yelp
Did not feel inclusive, terrible service and rank beer. From the moment we arrived we felt like an inconvience. The staff was focused on a select few and left the rest of us out.

Laura M.

Yelp
The most delicious beers and incredibly friendly and welcoming staff!! Love their seasonal rotations.
google avatar

Jane M.

Yelp
Aurora has grown! Wanted to check out Lady Justice for awhile and it was definitely worth the drive. What a great selection of brews. The staff very friendly and helpful and the seltzer yummy! Will be back soon for more!
google avatar

Kat M.

Yelp
I'm so glad I found this place! From the moment I walked in, I knew this spot would be right up my alley. The servers were so friendly, and I sat down as I waited for a friend, and ordered a Liberty Lager which was delicious and refreshing. Lovely artwork inside, and I noticed they have special events like trivia and drag bingo so I'll have to come back for those. I didn't order any food, but the pretzels looked really good, and I noticed a lot of food options nearby so people were bringing their meals inside. Overall, very cute and welcoming!

Kristin M.

Yelp
Amazing beer. Woman owned!! Lgbtq+ friendly brewery Definitely worth stopping in and supporting this community-minded business!
google avatar

Elena D.

Yelp
i adore this brewery! Staff are friendly and helpful and the whole place is very welcoming and inspiring. Giant pretzels baked in site pair well with flights to sample all their great beers. Gotta love a beer that literally makes the world a better place. I drive 45 minutes just to hang out for an hour or two and bring home my favorite crowlers and growlers!
google avatar

Ian M.

Yelp
Great little brewery! They had good beers of all variety and the staff was friendly and easy to talk to. 10/10 would recommend.
google avatar

Sue H.

Yelp
Lady Justice makes great beer AND it was founded by three former AmeriCorps members! I love their concept of being a PHILANTHROPIC COMMUNITY-SUPPORTED BREWERY. How great is that? Drink and do good! All profits over cost from their beer sales are donated to organizations that promote the status and opportunities of women and girls. Collocated with Factotum Brewing. I'm a CSB member and love getting my monthly crowler of whatever their latest and greatest brew is.
google avatar

Ryan H.

Yelp
A great place to sit and have a beer or play a game of trivia on a Thursday night. COVID-socially conscious, friendly and knowledgeable staff, who love to talk about beer and connect people to the community. I would recommend their Sunday Best Cashmere Hazy Pale ale and the For the Record Stout.
google avatar

Kaitlin T.

Yelp
Visited this place last night for the first time and were super impressed. The women who own it were so nice and are really passionate about their brewery and supporting local non-profits. The place is small but there is a patio for additional seating. They have trivia on Thursdays with prizes for first and second place winners. Definitely check it out!
google avatar

Taggert M.

Yelp
This Brewery is amazing. I'm so happy they found a home on East Colfax. All the people that work there are amazing and super friendly. Thanks to Kate for talking to the kiddo about musicals especially Hamilton. To Betsy for just being awesome and willing to talk beers. (Ps look up her TED talk) Jen I'm sure you are as awesome as your colleagues, we haven't had a chance to talk yet. I've enjoyed all the beers you brew. Keep up the awesome work. Get down soon to get some I Dissent before it's gone. I can't wait to try what new beer that's gonna be released next. Love all of you.
google avatar

R. K.

Yelp
This is my favorite brewery in town! Great story, great staff, great style, great beer. Love an ice cold crowler of Merkel's Thursday.

Melissa L.

Yelp
Great selection of beers in a friendly atmosphere. I had several flights of stouts and was impressed by them all. Good flavor and body.

Ian M.

Yelp
Accidentally came here on trivia night and had a great time. The owners are awesome and the beer was very tasty. A lot of interesting seasonal/limited release options. Fun atmosphere -- will definitely be back!
