If it wasn't for my dad, I wouldn't have found out about this 'bougie' & 'uppity' cake boutique! Haha. I must say that I became instantly a fan of this place - not only due to its pristine location in the heart of Mountain View and Los Altos, but a destination for sweets that isn't just sweets - it's their signature Mille Crepe Cakes that are worthy splurging for & treating yourself to!
Crepes (a few dozen, not a thousand) layered with a light whipped-cream pastry cream make up the signature Mille Crepes Cake at Lady M, taking over the site previously filled by a Peet's Coffee & Tea. Parking is a-plenty, and it is conveniently located off the San Antonio Road exit off the 101! There are many surrounding businesses in the area, and people do flock to this location - as the only other location is in San José's Westfield Valley Fair mall. The best thing about this Lady M location is that you don't have to navigate through a huge parking garage, and then walk for awhile; in addition to lugging your purchases around the mall. It is simply a cake shop with tables & chairs that are comfortable, in an aesthetically-pleasing environment - should you choose to dine in! Most people take their cakes for to-go & simply enjoy them in the comfort of their own homes.
Cakes are made in San Francisco, and the Lady M signature pastry, the Mille Crepes Cake, costs about $8-9 per slice, or $90 for a cake that serves 12. Lady M reimagined the classic French gateau de crepes with "Japanese sensibilities," particularly evident in its matcha variation. It also makes sponge-style cakes, cheesecakes and mille feuille cakes that vary seasonally. As of this summer season of 2022, their Purple Yam Mille Cakes are my favorite! Gives that Filipino-inspired 'UBE' vibes once you see 'em & indulge in such goodness! Ahhh!! Lol. The crepe cakes, which hand-layer more than 20 crepes with slathers of cream, come with a special knife for slicing - Lady M recommends wiping cream off the knife between each slice - and the cakes have to live inside the fridge before they're served.
Make sure to make the trek out here on this side of the Bay Area - and since the cakes are quite fragile (and a little pricey, tbh), I recommend in taking an insulated reusable tote bag with you & an ice pack to keep them cool during your travels. It is a life hack that you'll be grateful for - as you would not want to dig in a cake that's kinda melted once you get home! (not Instagram-Worthy, too! Haha!) It's always nice to be able to treat yourselves once in a while, and as for cakes, you wouldn't want to miss this chance of indulging their luxurious mille crepe cakes for you and your loved ones!
