"Lager’s International Ale House, a Metairie beer tavern that opened on Veterans Boulevard in 1996, will close its doors this December, Ian McNulty reports. It was one of the only places in the city for craft beer when it opened. The owners, who also own The Bulldog bars, said that rent increases made it impossible to sell “quality products at fair value, so simply raising prices to absorb the rent increase is not an option” in a Facebook post announcing the closing. They also said that their rent was already much higher than their that of their competitors. The tavern has 75 beers on tap, plus over 100 in bottles. The pub menu includes burgers and other sandwiches, fries, nachos, salads, and flatbreads. Lager’s is open regular hours, seven days a week from 11 a.m. on, until it closes at the end of December. The owners did say that they are looking into reopening it in a new location, though no plans have been set." - Stephanie Carter

The food was delicious. The Night Owl Pumpkin Beer was tremendous. Great Atmosphere

Huge beer selection as you'd expect from a place like this. As well as the usual big-boy American and international choices, there's a decent variety of smaller craft breweries, including many local and regional beers. The food there is pretty good, too. I ordered the Cuban sandwich and it was about what you'd expect. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the beer selection. When I was uncertain about which of two beers to choose from, she brought sample selections of both. I wound up getting both of them. Parking is fairly tight here. Based on the lack of available parking spaces outside, I was surprised at how few people were actually in the restaurant. It could have been an atypical night, though. The restaurant is right on the corner of Veterans Boulevard and Severn Avenue which is one of the higher-traffic areas in Metairie, so be prepared for some noise and exhaust fumes when you go outside.

Great beer selection, and absolute best blackened chicken sandwich I've ever had, hands down. I'm a little disappointed in myself for not going here sooner. Staff is super friendly and will recommend beer for you that you didn't even know you'd like.

I've been meaning to stop here for years but was always concerned about whether or not kids would be acceptable here. Drove by after the mall was overrun and was pleasantly surprised to see that under 18 we're allowed before 8pm! They even had a kids menu. All I can say is my only regret is that I waited so long. The food was amazing, the beer menu was extensive, and the staff was attentive and friendly. Definitely recommend.

Stopped by with a few co-workers after our shift one day. The staff accommodated us fairly nicely. The only complaint I have is that when we did get a server, she asked me to close my tab at the bar. Kind of pointless to make me do it considering I was just going to then open it back up with her. But I get it. Sales and tips go to her not the bartender. Their beer selection is top notch and it would no doubt take a look g time to go through them all.

When I'm out in Metairie, Lager's is one of my favorite stops. The main reason is the top notch selection of craft beer. There's always plenty to chose from that I've never heard of before. The good is also good and more than just bar food. Plus, it's family friendly during the day. I can't ask for anything more.

Absolutely best place in Metairie, La for an eclectic choice in beers. Service is always great-best seats are directly at the bar- and delivers amazing food. I recommend The turkey burger and waffle fries; good luck choosing a beer. Perfect for beer enthusiasts and worth the stop coming off the interstate.

Thank you Rachel for serving us so very well, I know that Tip had to be an awesome surprise. A very special shout out thanks to the cook, I am not sure of their names, but all 5 of us left the restaurant with our plates empty. I send a special thanks to the bartender who kept us plenty satisfied. We are repeat customers and selectively choose to eat at Lagers when we are on the Southshore.
