The 17 Best Restaurants Near Lake Chelan - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Let's say you had four (or was it five?) Black Cherry White Claws last night and making breakfast sounds about as appealing as powerwashing the back deck blindfolded. Lake Chelan Artisan Bakery is here for you with a strong cup of coffee (made from beans grown in nearby Twisp) and a fully-loaded bagel breakfast sandwich. Our perfect order is a sausage, egg, and cheese on an asiago bagel, and maybe one of their freshly baked ham and cheese croissants if they aren’t sold out by the time you wake up at noon." - carlo mantuano, emily burks

Terrible experience - my mom and I came into this shop trying to support local versus going to Starbucks nearby and regretted it so much! The service was horrible including the cashier gal’s attitude and non existent customer service. The food was also disgusting and way overpriced - the mushroom spinach quiche was shoved at us cold on a plate and we were told to microwave it ourselves (again without any smile or thank yous, etc!) and the taste was so bad that we each had one bite before throwing it away. Even the little birds outside didn’t like the quiche at all, or the crows! Then the lemon poppyseed muffin was also overpriced and tasted stale and old. The drip coffee was nasty. Overall nitrile experience - we ended up going to Starbucks and were thankful to receive way better customer service and quality food and drinks. Do not recommend at all!

Forget the rest. Just eat & shop here. But go early for first crack at all the scratch-made pastries, cookies, blueberry pie, fruit danish, raspberry & lemon cheesecake...you get the idea. We're coming back tomorrow morning before we leave to pick up some sandwiches & breakfast burritos (with hash browns) -- tortillas also made from scratch -- for our long drive home. Lovely lady behind the counter went out of her way to answer our questions & help us decide. Try the local coffee. It's the strongest we've ever had. They close at 3 pm & are the only real bakery in town.

Okay, I hate to do this as I did used to love this place but I just visited this morning, and the ladies serving messed up my order multiple times without making any kind of clarification before placing and packing the order. I ordered: -Jalapeno & Cheese Bagel -1 Ham & Cheese Croissant -1 Spinach and Mushroom Danish -1 Strawberry Danish -1 12 oz iced Americano -1 12 oz iced white mocha What I got was: -Bagel -2 Ham & Cheese croissant -1 peach Danish -1 strawberry Danish -1 12 oz Iced Americano with a shot of White mocha flavor They corrected the coffee order, and I tried to double check in my bag that the order was correct, but didn't look well enough. On top of that, all the pastries were just lumped in a brown bag together (no individual bags like they used to do), and the first time they placed it on the counter it was covered in sugar and melted glaze and I had to ask to have it in a different bag. Just really disappointing in the lack of care that went into taking my order. I've served before, if you are confused about what a customer is ordering, please repeat the order back to them before placing and packing the order. It's not hard and would've made for an easier morning for both parties. Not even very apologetic for the mix ups. I probably won't be back for a while.

Google
The food was decent. I had the ham and cheese burrito and was disappointed that there only seemed to be a thin lunch meat style slice of ham in my burrito and wish the hasbrown had some salt and pepper on it. My husband had the bacon option and said it was good with the hot sauce. We also got a bagel and raspberry Danish for later.

Google
Didn't try bread or pastries, but the "quiche" was totally disappointing. No butter in the Pate Brisee, more like a pre-made commercial pie crust; the typical quiche custardy filling was basically a thick layer of scrambled eggs with stuff baked on the top, not incorporated into the filling. The girl behind the counter was pleasant and made a great cup of cappuccino. Maybe stick with bread (which looked great) and the variety of pastries or other items.

Google
The bakery is small with just a few tables. The staff were not super friendly. The baked goods were just alright and fairly limited in number.

Google
Coffee is on point and baked goods are very nice. Parking is a bit tight so be very careful as you enter the lot.

Google
I hate to give this place two stars but need to be honest. The idea of an "artisan bakery" inspires images of goods lining the walls and the smell of fresh baked pastries. This place is the size of a broom closet and has a small collection of bales options, excluding many of the most popular. Their espresso is automatic and coffee is kept in a press down bunn. They have a couple small tables outside with views of the hill, however they're in a strip mall facing a main street. The chocolate croissant was decent and the cashier was very pleasant. The coffee, as expected had little flavor. +Nice customer service, baked good was decent. -Tough location, very limited assortment, no legitimate coffee pairing option.

Yelp
Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed by either the pastries or the ambiance of this bakery. The pastries were subpar and I was surprised that we needed to microwave them ourselves. I love crispy pastries; unfortunately, there was not even a toaster oven for us to use, so everything was soggy and limp. The cinnamon roll was big but bland and dry, and needed more frosting. The quiche was slightly rubbery and the ham cheese croissant tasted mediocre. The space had concrete floors and cardboard boxes in the corner which made the interior feel carelessly done. What I did seriously appreciate was how the cashier gave me 2 pieces of quiche for the price of one ($5). She was friendly and generous and made me feel welcome. I also liked how they have loaves of bread for sale and a discounted section for day-old pastries (on the shelf underneath the small selection of regular ones at the counter). It was nice to sit at the stools looking out the window, looking through their local travel brochures and seeing homemade earrings for sale. I was surprised and disappointed in my experience after seeing the rave reviews on Yelp, but am glad this place exists.

Yelp
We were a group of 6. We ordered coffees and a brownie. The coffee was mediocre at best. However, I'm pretty certain the brownie was STALE and OLD. It was so hard to eat, and it had all the 4th July decorations on it (we went on the 7th).

Yelp
Worst quiche ever. Mediocre coffee. They don't have like an oven to reheat things so, microwaved the quiche and it was very un pleasant.

Yelp
My girlfriends and I came to this bakery around 12, and a lot of the pastries were out. Note: get here early for the best selection!! So we took all the remaining ones they had, and all were a hit that we wished we were able to try the others. We also got the quiches and believe the quiche shells are still a little raw and meant to be baked more upon order or at home. Since we took the items home, we reheated it there. As far as service, the woman was really nice. She felt bad that there weren't more items left but it's not her fault! We didn't mind. All in all, a great little spot to check out!

Yelp
The coffee was perfect and the danish was delicious- Not overly sweetened which I love! So many options it was hard to choose between sweet pastries, breakfast sandwiches on homemade bread, bagels and quiche. I can wait to come back next time I'm in Chelan.

Yelp
OK reading artisan, I was hoping for crusty bread, flaky pastries, nicely filled items, delicious baked goods, just a notch over a regular bakery. Well, let's say if they wouldn't use the name, I would have had different expectations. I live close to several artisan bakeries, so the bar was pretty high. Let's start with the "Italian" bread, which is really a regular white toast bread. It had a slightly sweet flavor, which was odd and zero crust, all soft dense bread. No harm there if it's called a soft white, but with Italian, it needs a crust and airy dough inside . We bought a couple of pastries, they were all ok, so overall, it's good. They do have a couple of tables, but it's not necessarily a nice sit down place. Just curb your expectations and plan with nicely executed standard bakery items.
google avatar

Yelp
They have quite a variety and the ones that i bought are good. One of bakeries you must try around the area!

Yelp
Good pastries when visiting lake Chalan. The almond bear claw I think is what I got was delicious!

Yelp
Bad costumer service the first day. On the 1st day of my trip the Cashier/barista seemed very irritated at 8am. Very random of which customers she was friendly with in line. We just wanted coffee and pastries. There was only a line of 3 groups of 2 or 3 ppl patiently waiting. Gave the bakery a second chance on the last day to buy bread and pastries before driving 3 hours home. Better cashiers/ barista at 2pm but flies were hovering and landing on the bread and pastries that they were selling fresh off the shelves. And coffee was bland and subpar. Not to mention they were handling cash and food without handwashing or glove exchange. Was hoping to support small business but probably will not revisit, sad.

Yelp
Stopped by to grab some breakfast. The Chocolate Croissant and the Almond Croissant were pretty good. Had they been warm and fresh, they would have been excellent. Only after we finished did we notice a small microwave tucked away in a corner; honestly even 10 seconds in there would have made a difference (although ideally I'd have loved them warm and fresh). The really nice lady behind the counter also agreed to make me a turkey and avocado sandwich on a jalapeño cheddar bagel which was a fantastic combo. I just wish that they had toasted the bagel first and then made it into a sandwich; the difference would have been night and day. Their freshly brewed coffee is absolutely outstanding. Very aromatic and much better than even some of the really great cafes in downtown Seattle. Overall the food is really good but a little bit of care and attention to detail can really take it over the top. Something simple like warming up the baked good or pointing the customers to where they can do it themselves if they would like can add so much value at no extra cost. It's always the little things...

Yelp
Friendly and fast service while you drool over the tasty treats. Different breads baked each day. Get there early if you want bread. The day old rack often has good deals. Enjoy!
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in on our way back home. The chai tea latte was good, the breakfast sandwich was dry but the service was good!
google avatar

Yelp
Best carrot cake on earth! Amazing brownies! Tasty grilled avocado turkey sandwiches. But really...just eat the carrot cake and you'll be good.

Yelp
Wonderful little bakery tucked into a small strip mall near the lake. We came here on a Tuesday morning before hitting the road around 10 am and were treated by a delicious display of artiasan goods. Everything from macaroons to chocolate croissants to cookies and quiches. The decision was rough but we decided on an almond bear claw, a chocolate croissant and ham and cheese croissant. They all were delicious and did not disappoint. We also ordered 2 cappuccinos which were made perfectly, their barista was skilled with packing the grounds and using the perfect temperature to steam the milk. The bear claw was filled with delicious almond and baked crispy on the outside. The croissants were both made with real butter and were buttery and flaky and baked crispy as well. Overall a delectable experience and we will definitely be back next time in chelan. If we lived in chelan they would definitely take all our money!

Yelp
It's been a couple years since my last review - coming back to leave a post-pandemic update! The Lake Chelan Artisan Bakery remains my go-to for breakfast, lunch, and anything in between. I am a huge fan of pastries with my coffee, so this has become a special stop for me over the years when I need a quick sugar or caffeine boost. :) I'm so glad to see that this shop made it through the pandemic and continues to serve Blue Star coffee, artisan breads, and their outstanding specials. After trying all the sandwich options, I remain absolutely committed to the Turkey Avocado sandwich, and always get it grilled! I also try to get whatever fruit and cream cheese danish that's being served at the time. Today, I ordered the plum danish - it was delightfully sweet from the cream cheese and dusting of powdered sugar, with a taste of tart from the fresh plum slices on top. Perfect with an iced latte on this sunny morning!

Yelp
Service was decent, baked goods were fine, nothing special. Our order was messed up as well. It works if you're looking for a quick baked treat.

Yelp
A cute little place with wonderful breakfast foods. Loved their cinnamon rolls. My family visited twice during our week vacation in town. We're planning an family Annual vacation in this beautiful town and we'll definitely visit this little wonderful bakery again.

Yelp
Delicious!! I have been coming back to Chelan every summer and never knew this bakery was here ! Let's start with the pastry! My mom had a Apple turnover and she loved it! She doesn't have the best appetite being 85 but she devoured it ! We also took home a croissant and blueberry pastry and it was really light and flakey. Lunch sandwich made at home with the croissant was really good. Let's talk about the breakfast bagel. I ordered on a artisan cheese bagel and sausage and it was just really delicious. The sausage was a tad spicy and the eggs were premade but two pieces of egg on my sandwich! What a great source of protein and a start to my morning. They also have ham, bacon and probably just cheese. This is my new go to in town. Super friendly service and reasonable prices ( all four $17 ). Can't wait for another breakfast bagel sandwich!

Yelp
Great find! Great pastries. Neat little shop. Very friendly staff. Would absolutely go again.

Yelp
Stopped in for a coffee and pastry and loved that there were plenty of options still late morning in a saturday. The espresso drinks were tasty and they had several alternative milk options. They had both sweet and savory pastry options which was great to see. I tried the almond bear claw and lemon turnover. The pastry was delicious on both! I was hoping for more lemon filling on the turnover but I am a lemon fan so others might find it to be enough!

Yelp
We were going on the Lady of the Lake to visit Stehekin, and wanted some snacks for the journey since I didn't have high expectations for the boat's snack bar. It was hit and miss with my selections here, but I'd still be happy to come back for another bagel and danish, and try other items. Salt Bagel $1.50 + Cream Cheese $0.75: I love salt bagels! This isn't the best I've had, but it's good enough to get again. They can slice it in half for you if you want, and if you want it toasted there's a toaster on the side for you to use. The cream cheese is one of those little single use tubs so you can add it yourself. Mixed Berry Danish $3.75: I really liked this! Not too sweet, and the berries added the right amount of flavor. Sticky Bun $3.50: This one was OK. I did like the nuts, but would have liked a bigger topping to pastry ratio. Snickerdoodle $2: I felt pretty meh about this cookie, and I think a big part of that was the temperature. It was slightly on the colder side to me. Hot Chocolate, 16 oz $2.50: Not that great, but it was still something hot to drink on a cold morning. Photo Mention - Breakfast Burrito $5.50: These are already pre-made and wrapped in foil, and sit in the heating lamp cabinet thing to keep warm. This looked to be the same case for the bagel sandwiches. ***** My Star Ratings: 1 Star - Terrible. Just thinking about it makes me angry. 2 Stars - Meh. Unlikely for me to return. 3 Stars - OK. Open to coming back, but wouldn't go out of my way to. 4 Stars - Yummy! Will definitely return if I haven't already. 5 Stars - AMAZING!!! Would plan my day or even a trip around eating here.

Susan R.

Yelp
I have been to this bakery several times with good results. Today was another story. The rolls were heavy and doughy. Really inedible! The cherry pastry was good. My thought was the dough did not rise but they decided to serve anyway. That is not a good practice to serve low quality food!
google avatar

Spring M.

Yelp
Some of the saddest "bakery" food. Iced tea was a brewed stash tea bag over ice. The turkey avocado sandwich was 1 piece of sliced turkey,1 slice of very old soggy tomato, old brown avocado and half a piece of sweaty cheese. And they charge you $7 for this. We promptly threw the food and drinks away and went to Starbucks where we at least know what we're getting for our money. Do not recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
Good breakfast and great coffee. Pastries are very good. Staff wasn't unfriendly but not necessarily real friendly. A little customer service goes a long way.
google avatar

Dinah D.

Yelp
It was a very utilitarian setting, but quite popular. Our breakfast sandwiches were tasty.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious, came on a Monday holiday morning around 7am and the store had a steady stream of customers. Definitely the best bakery in chelan! Will come again.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent pastry's and coffee and great service! Locals best kept secret, if we could get in in the summer! I think the secret is out!
google avatar

Mary Jo L.

Yelp
We're in Lake Chelan for the 4th of July weekend and came upon a wonderful but understated artisan bakery. The pastries are beautiful, fresh-baked and delicious and for such an understated location, we were very pleasantly surprised. As soon as we entered, the aroma of freshly baked goods got to us. Much better than an much advertised coffee shop up the street. I had a cherry croissant (so fresh and wonderfully tasty) and hubby had a sticky bun which he says was great. We will definitely return .

Jaylah C.

Yelp
I love the food here! So amazing, the bakers and cashiers were all so nice! The pictures on the wall really complete the neutral bakery look.
google avatar

Michael F.

Yelp
Best bakery in Chelan if not in Washington state. Great pastry items, my favorite is the spinach mushroom croissant. the coffee is always on point. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The owner is pure awesome. She even makes the flour tortillas fresh every day for her burritos. Stop her is a must.
google avatar

Joy J.

Yelp
This little gem has the best coffee and baked goods!! Honestly it beats Starbucks any day which is about 30 feet away! Baked goods on a daily, their coffee is delicious and customer service is great. Due to covid restrictions no inside seating but they do have a few tables outside. Do not pass up this place! For the 10 years I've been spending my summers in Chelan, I finally had it in 2020! Don't be me lol
google avatar

Nancy W.

Yelp
Best pastries ever, even breakfast sandwiches! Staff is friendly and professional! Gave me a cake box as well for a cake I was making!
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
This place is alright. Nothing to give rave reviews about. Or maybe I didn't get the right items. My friend and I got there about 7a and they did not have all their pasties available. We both got sausage bagel breakfast sandwiches and shared zucchini bread. I've had better bagel sandwiches elsewhere and although the zucchini bread was nice and moist, I feel like it would have been better with a light glaze, versus the hard thick glaze on top. I wanted to try the ham and cheese croissant but there were none available at the time...
google avatar

Nick B.

Yelp
Such a great bakery and coffee shop. My wife and I had great bagels, a great latte, and a great chai tea. They have a La Marzocco machine for the coffee. Can't wait to try the bread tomorrow.

Hope E.

Yelp
Very delicious breakfast sandwiches and burritos. The burritos are on homemade tortillas. Delicious! The staff were friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Alison P.

Yelp
We have stopped here a few years now. This last trip recently we made 3 stops here for coffee/pastries. The coffee is the best we have found in Chelan as well as the treats! The service was very friendly too. This is a must stop, there are breakfast and lunch items and definitely something for everyone.
google avatar

Rachelle L.

Yelp
Stopped here on our way put of town for a quick breakfast, four us all ordered different things. Chocolate crossiant, coconut turnover, almond bear claw, turkey/avocado sandwhich, cheddar jalepeno bagel & cream cheese, and rosemary sourdough bread to take home....wonderful!! Little bistro tables out front as well. They have a variety of things, breakfast sandwiches, 3 different cold sandwiches, pastries, cookies....everything we got was really good. We ate the sourdough with dinner that night and it was amazing.
google avatar

Marlena S.

Yelp
I hate writing negative reviews especially for smaller businesses, however this place did not live up to the previous reviews at all. I came in for coffee and couple breakfast items and most of the items were stale so I bought a bagel and was handed a dry bagel in a paper bag so I could go cut it myself and toast it. Was disappointed as I love to support local places

Adam S.

Yelp
Best breakfast option. Delicious pastries, coffee is the best in town. Try the breakfast sandwiches for a road-trip breakfast.
google avatar

Melissa W.

Yelp
Great coffees and huge selection of fresh pastries and breakfast sandwiches. Rotating scones and the best cinnamon rolls in town (both regular and maple). Family friendly. There are a few tables inside if you want to sit indoors.

Yelp
Sad to say our experience at the bakery this time was not as great. We were left so sorely disappointed. Kudos for the staff being so gracious and going the extra mile to make it right. Tldr: Don't look to place a special order, just walk in and get whatever they have that day. No guarantee they'll have your order if you order ahead. We placed an order in July with the owner Lindsay via email. I called the week prior to pick up to confirm the order and was told that the orders are only posted for them a week in advance and they had no way of knowing if they got our order anyways. I figured she must have gotten the order as I distinctly remember sending it. When we arrived on Sunday morning to pick up our order, it did not exist. There was no order for us. So either they forgot our order or somehow they never received it. It was frustrating and disappointing as we had a 40+ person family reunion we had ordered for! Despite the owner not being there, the girls quickly jumped into action and we placed a modified order that was ready quickly. We added a few extra things not in the original order. The girls gave us a small discount for the inconvenience of not having our order even though it wasn't their fault. The Danishes were probably the best thing in the box and they were added in and not on the original order. The cinnamon roll was dense and dry, not as I remember. The brownies were about the same and still pretty good. Overall we were pretty disappointed and I can't say whether we will be back.
google avatar

Tim K.

Yelp
We got several items. The turnover and cookies were by far the best. I'm still thinking about the turnover. The bagel fell well short. People should really not call round bread with a hole a bagel. Just call it round bread. The brownie was better, but hid behind a TON of frosting. I'll still be back next time.
google avatar

Jasmine V.

Yelp
It was alright. We went in for coffee and pastries after reading stellar reviews. There is a sign right in front of the register stating that "if you do not wear a mask we will assume you have a medical condition preventing you from doing so" which was off-putting in the midst of the pandemic. There was a lack of enforcement of social distancing and customers walking in the small shop with their masks below their chins. The gal who took our order barely paid mind and the cinnamon roll did not taste fresh or as amazing as other reviews described. The coffee was good but I'm not sure I would feel comfortable going back.
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
Very hard to find any kind of good pastries in the area so we went with this "artisan" bakery. Although the staff was friendly (which is worth the three stars I'm giving it) and accommodating, the pastries were sub par. After ordering a savory pastry we were told to "heat up" our pastry in a microwave. The pastry was pizza dough like in flavor and due to the only source of warming up the pastry being that of a microwave, it was soggy. Starbucks is right next door. Need a pastry, I suggest going there.
google avatar

Jaime A.

Yelp
I absolutely love this bakery! Staff is friendly. Their bagel sandwiches, quiche, croissants...and literally every other item are delicious. Their breakfast sandwiches do sell out pretty quickly though. They also brew blue star coffee which I love! I always look forward to my trip here when I'm in town.
google avatar

Stephanie M.

Yelp
I am never disappointed when I get food or treats here! I even try new flavors or flavors I've previously not liked and have never not liked something. The other day I really wanted a scone and they only had apricot mango ones, I have never really liked apricot, but they were amazing! Truly a gem in Chelan and somewhere, as a local, I'm proud to point people towards.
google avatar

Matt R.

Yelp
Stopped off on a whim, and it turned out to be the best decision. Everything from the drip coffee to the homemade bagels and tortillas to pastries were fantastic. We even took a bunch of stuff to go. Definitely hitting this place up on the way out of town.

Yelp
Starfleet requires that every mission log specify the single best item of food consumed by the captain while on the planet's surface. In the case of this mission, that distinction goes to the lemon poppyseed scone at the Chelan Artisan Bakery. Surprising, right? I mean, I'm not even much of a scone person -- or much of a poppyseed person. (I am much of a lemon person, however. The ship's doctor tells me it's because one of my ancestors grafted some citrus DNA into our bloodline.) But that's how good this scone was. And not just "good for this solar system": I mean actual, galaxy-class good. Flavorful, neither dry nor heavy, with a nice crunchy outer layer and a tender inside. The rest of our goodies were not quite as mind-blowing, thought still excellent. The granola bar was as good as the owner assured me it would be. The croissants were solid hits. The coffee cake was scrumptious, as they say on Malcor III. The outer crust and the nectarines on the nectarine danish were amazeballs (that's an Earth expression), even if the custardy goo was a bit thick. The rotating goods at this bakery mean that you can't be sure what your options will be on the day you walk in, which I know some species would find unbearably stressful. If you are among the more flexible and adventurous space-faring civilizations, however, you will embrace the possibility that you will arrive on a day when something delicious has just come out of the oven -- like a lemon poppyseed scone.

Yelp
The pastries here are amazing and the coffee was good as well. The breakfast burrito wasn't bad, but it was nothing special either. Highly suggest the blueberry danish!
